1Resistin is not an appropriate biochemical marker to predict severity of acute pancreatitis:A case-controlled study显示文摘AIM:To assess levels of serum resistin upon hospital admission as a predictor of acute pancreatitis(AP) severity.METHODS:AP is both a common and serious disease,with severe cases resulting in a high mortality rate.Several predictive inflammatory markers have been used clinically to assess severity.This prospective study collected data from 102 patients who were diagnosed with an initial acute biliary pancreatitis between March 2010 and February 2013.Measurements of body mass index(BMI) and waist circumference(WC) were obtained and serum resistin levels were analyzed at the time of hospital admission using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Additionally,resistin levels were measured from a control group after matching gender,BMI and age.RESULTS:A total of 102 patients(60 females and 42 males) were diagnosed with acute gallstone-induced pancreatitis.The mean age was 45 years,and mean BMI value was 30.5 kg/m2(Obese,class?Ⅰ).Twentytwo patients(21.6%) had severe AP,while eighty-eight patients had mild pancreatitis(78.4%).Our results showed that BMI significantly correlated with pancreatitis severity(P = 0.007).Serum resistin did not correlate with BMI,weight or WC.Furthermore,serum resistin was significantly higher in patients with AP compared to control subjects(P < 0.0001).The mean resistin values upon admission were 17.5 ng/mL in the severe acute biliary pancreatitis group and 16.82 ng/mL in the mild AP group(P = 0.188),indicating that resistin is not an appropriate predictive marker of clinical severity.CONCLUSION:We demonstrate that obesity is a risk factor for developing severe AP.Further,although there is a correlation between serum resistin levels and AP at the time of hospital admission,resistin does not adequately serve as a predictive marker of clinical severity.Hamdi Al-Maramhy Abdelrahman I Abdelrahman Samer Sawalhi 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,41:10
22株芽孢杆菌生物学特性研究及菌种鉴定显示文摘从发酵食品分离出的10株芽孢杆菌中,通过对其进行耐酸、耐胆盐筛选,选取了2株存活率最高的菌株513-A和513-O。对这2个菌株进行产酶定性试验并测定其产蛋白酶活力大小,再结合细菌形态学、生理生化特征和16S r DNA序列分析进行鉴定。结果显示,513-A为短小芽孢杆菌,513-O为Bacillus gobiensis。513-A菌株经p H值为2.0的HCl处理1 h存活率达70.61%,0.3%猪胆盐处理1 h存活率达67.30%;513-O菌株经p H值为2.0的HCl处理1 h存活率达59.43%,0.3%猪胆盐处理1 h存活率达87.50%。2株菌株均具有产纤维素酶和蛋白酶的能力,其产碱性蛋白酶活力大小分别为43.67,65.72 U/m L。由于短小芽孢杆菌具有提高饲料利用率和动物免疫力的功能,因此,513-A和513-O这2株菌株有作为动物饲料添加剂候选菌种的潜力,513-O还有作为产碱性蛋白酶菌种的潜力;且首次发现Bacillus gobiensis具有产纤维素酶和蛋白酶的功能。陈雅茜 樊溢 Saad Abdelrahman 王景雪 2018山西农业科学2018,46,2:6
3Simulation of nucleate boiling under ANSYS-FLUENT code by using RPI model coupling with artificial neural networks显示文摘The present study is to develop a new user-defined function using artificial neural networks intent Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)simulation for the prediction of water-vapor multiphase flows through fuel assemblies of nuclear reactor.Indeed,the provision of accurate material data especially for water and steam over a wider range of temperatures and pressures is an essential requirement for conducting CFD simulations in nuclear engineering thermal hydraulics.Contrary to the commercial CFD solver ANSYS-CFX,where the industrial standard IAPWS-IF97(International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam-Industrial Formulation 1997)is implemented in the ANSYS-CFX internal material database,the solver ANSYS-FLUENT provides only the possibility to use equation of state(EOS),like ideal gas law,Redlich-Kwong EOS and piecewise polynomial interpolations.For that purpose,new approach is used to implement the thermophysical properties of water and steam for subcooled water in CFD solver ANSYS-FLUENT.The technique is based on artificial neural networks of multi-layer type to accurately predict 10 thermodynamic and transport properties of the density,specific heat,dynamic viscosity,thermal conductivity and speed of sound on saturated liquid and saturated vapor.Temperature is used as single input parameter,the maximum absolute error predicted by the artificial neural networks ANNs,was around 3%.Thus,the numerical investigation under CFD solver ANSYSFLUENT becomes competitive with other CFD codes of which ANSYS-CFX in this area.In fact,the coupling of the Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute(RPI)wall boiling model and the developed Neural-UDF(User Defined Function)was found to be useful in predicting the vapor volume fraction in subcooled boiling flow.Brahim Mohamedi Salah Hanini Abdelrahmane Ararem Nacim Mellel 2015Nuclear Science and Techniques2015,26,4:5
4New approaches for diagnosis of dry eye disease显示文摘We reviewed the literature for different diagnostic approaches for dry eye disease(DED) including the most recent advances, contradictions and promising diagnostic tools and technique. We performed a broad literature search for articles discussing different methods for diagnosis of DED including assessment of tear osmolarity, tear film stability, ocular biomarkers and others. Articles indexed in PubMed and google scholar were included. With the growing cosmetic industry, environmental pollution, and booming of digital screens, DED is becoming more prevalent. Its multifactorial etiology renders the diagnosis challenging and invites the emergence of new diagnostic tools and tests. Diagnostic tools can be classified, based on the parameter they measure, into tear film osmolarity, functional visual acuity, tear volume, tear turnover, tear film stability, tear film composition, ocular biomarkers and others. Although numerous methods exist, the most accurate diagnosis can be reached through combining the results of more than one test. Many reported tests have shown potential as diagnostic/screening tools, however, require more research to prove their diagnostic power, alone or in combination. 6Helicobacter pylori may be an initiating factor in newly diagnosed ulcerative colitis patients: A pilot study显示文摘AIM To directly visualize Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) by the highly sensitive and specific technique of immunohistochemical staining in colonic tissue from patients newly diagnosed with ulcerative colitis(UC).METHODS Colonoscopic biopsies from thirty patients with newly diagnosed UC and thirty controls were stained with Giemsa stain and immunohistochemical stain for detection of H. pylori in the colonic tissue. Results were confirmed by testing H. pylori Ag in the stool then infected patients were randomized to receive either anti H. pylori treatment or placebo.RESULTS Twelve/30(40%) of the UC patients were positive for H. pylori by Giemsa, and 17/30(56.6%) by immunohistochemistry stain. Among the control group 4/30(13.3%) and 6/30(20 %) were positive for H. pylori by Giemsa and immunohistochemistry staining respectively. H. pylori was significantly higher in UC than in controls(P = 0.04 and 0.007). All Giemsa positive patients and controls were positive by immunohistochemical stain. Four cases of the control group positive for H. pylori also showed microscopic features consistent with early UC.CONCLUSION H. pylori can be detected in colonic mucosa of patients with UC and patients with histological superficial ulcerations and mild infiltration consistent with early UC. There seems to be an association between UC and presence of H. pylori in the colonic tissue. 8Surgical management of uveitis-glaucoma-hyphema syndrome显示文摘AIM:To report outcomes of patients after intraocular lens(IOL)repositioning or exchange for the version of the uveitisglaucoma-hyphema(UGH)syndrome that does not include closed loop anterior chamber IOL(nUGH).METHODS:Chart review of patients with nUGH who underwent IOL repositioning or exchange by one surgeon were reviewed.The main outcome measures were best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)as a decimal fraction preoperatively and postoperatively after IOL repositioning or exchange.Clinical findings evaluated included the presence of uveitis,hyphema,elevated intraocular pressure(IOP),and other complications such as pigment dispersion or vitreous hemorrhage.The number of anti-inflammatory and glaucoma medications were assessed before and after IOL repositioning or exchange.RESULTS:The study included 14 pseudophakic eyes.The median time at the onset of contemporary UGH after cataract extraction and IOL implantation(CE/IOL)was7.5 y.IOL repositioning or exchange was performed at a mean duration of 8.1±4.7 mo(median:4 mo)after onset of UGH.The mean BCVA was improved from 0.45±0.26 preoperatively after onset of UGH syndrome to 0.76±0.22(P=0.016)after IOL repositioning or exchange.Among the14 eyes,uveitis,elevated IOP,and hyphema were present preoperatively in 13,13,and 6 eyes,respectively.Uveitis and hyphema resolved in all cases after IOL surgery.The mean IOP was reduced from 26.4±4.5 mm Hg preoperatively to 14.7±4.9 postoperatively(P=0.01).The mean number of glaucoma medications used was reduced from 1.7±1.1 medications preoperatively to 0.8±1.08(P=0.04)postoperatively.CONCLUSION:IOL repositioning or exchange is an effective treatment in many cases for medically resistant contemporary UGH syndrome.Abdelrahman M.Elhusseiny Richard K.Lee William E.Smiddy 2020International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2020,13,6:3
9Percutaneous aspiration and drainage with adjuvant medical therapy for treatment of hepatic hydatid cysts显示文摘AIM:To determine the efficacy and success of percutaneous aspiration irrigation and reaspiration(PAIR) in the management of hepatic hydatidosis.METHODS:Twenty-six patients with 32 hepatic hydatid cysts had PAIR.Twenty-two patients received at least 2 wk of drug therapy before the procedure was carried out to reduce the risk of recurrence from spillage during the procedure.The procedure was performed under local anesthesia with a 19-gauge 20 cm long needle,the cyst was punctured,cystic content(approximately 30 mL) was aspirated by a 12-14 F pigtail catheter and aspirated fluids were sent for analysis.Once the cyst was almost empty,two-thirds of the net amount of material aspirated was replaced by hypertonic saline and left in the cavity for about 30 min,with the catheter left in place for reaspiration of most of the fluid.When the amount of fluid drained was less than 10 mL per 24 h,the drainage catheter was removed.RESULTS:All 32 cysts showed evidence of immediate collapse after completion of the procedure,and before discharge from hospital,ultrasound examination showed fluid reaccumulation in all cysts.Serial follow-up showed a progressive decrease in the size and change in the appearance of cysts.To confirm the sterility of these cystic cavities,seven cysts were reaspirated on average 3 mo after the procedure.Investigations revealed no viable scolices.CONCLUSION:PAIR using hypertonic saline is very effective and safe with proper precautions.Mohammed I Yasawy Abdelrahman E Mohammed Sammak Bassam Mohammed A Karawi Sohail Shariq 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,5:3
10Validated stability indicating methods for determination of nitazoxanide in presence of its degradation products显示文摘Three sensitive,selective and reproducible stability-indicating methods are presented for determination of nitazoxanide (NTZ),a new anti-protozoal drug,in presence of its degradation products.Method A utilizes the first derivative of ratio spectra spectrophotometry by measurement of the amplitude at 364.4 nm using one of the degradation products as a divisor.Method B is a chemometric-assisted spectrophotometry,where principal component regression (PCR) and partial least squares (PLS) were applied.These two approaches were successfully applied to quantify NTZ in presence of degradation products using the information included in the absorption spectra in the range 260-360 nm.Method C is based on the separation of NTZ from its degradation products followed by densitometric measurement of the bands at 254 nm.The separation was carried out on silica gel 60F 254,using chloroform-methanol-ammonia solution-glacial acetic acid (95:5:1:1 by volume,pH=5.80) as a developing system.These methods are suitable as stability-indicating methods for the determination of NTZ in presence of its degradation products either in bulk powder or in pharmaceutical formulations.Statistical analysis of the results has been carried out revealing high accuracy and good precision.Nouruddin W.Ali Samah Sayed Abbas Hala El-Sayed Zaazaa Maha Mohamed Abdelrahman Mohamed Abdelkawy 2012Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2012,2,2:3

12Correlation between corneal demarcation line depth in epithelium-off and trans-epithelium accelerated corneal cross linking and keratoconus progression显示文摘AIM:To compare corneal demarcation line(DL)depth in both accelerated epithelium-off and trans-epithelium cross linking(CXL)using anterior segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT)and its relation to maximum keratometry(Kmax)progression in both techniques.METHODS:A prospective comparative interventional study where patients with mild to moderate keratoconus(KC)were classified into two groups:accelerated epitheliumoff and trans-epithelium CXL based on corneal pachymetry.Assessment of corneal DL depth was carried out after 3mo by AS-OCT.Kmax readings were evaluated after one year follow up using the Scheimpflug imaging system.RESULTS:Study included 74 eyes of 44 patients.Group A underwent epithelium-off CXL(41 eyes),while Group B underwent trans-epithelium CXL(33 eyes).At 3mo follow up,mean corneal DL depth in Group A was 219.9±58.4μm while in Group B was 127.2±7.8μm(P<0.05).The mean Kmaxchangedfrom51.9±3.9to51.3±4.2dioptersin Group A and from 53.1±4.1 to 53.6±5 diopters in Group B with insignificant difference in Kmax changes in either group(P>0.05).In addition,no significant change in corneal pachymetry was found in both groups(meanchange at 1y:6.4±4.7 and-10.1±2.3μm in Groups A and B respectively).CONCLUSION:Despite a significantly deeper corneal DL depth created by accelerated epithelium-off CXL technique compared to accelerated trans-epithelium CXL,there is no significant impact on keratoconus progression.Mahmoud Abdel-Radi Zeiad Eldaly Hazem Abdelmotaal Reham Abdelrahman Mohamed Sayed Kamel Soliman 2020International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2020,13,6:2
13Particle dispersion modeling in ventilated room using artificial neural network显示文摘Due to insufficiency of a platform based on experimental results for numerical simulation validation using computational fluid dynamic method(CFD) for different geometries and conditions,in this paper we propose a modeling approach based on the artificial neural network(ANN) to describe spatial distribution of the particles concentration in an indoor environment.This study was performed for a stationary flow regime.The database used to build the ANN model was deducted from bibliography literature and composed by 261 points of experimental measurement.Multilayer perceptron-type neural network(MLP-ANN) model was developed to map the relation between the input variables and the outputs.Several training algorithms were tested to give a choice of the Fletcher conjugate gradient algorithm(TrainCgf).The predictive ability of the results determined by simulation of the ANN model was compared with the results simulated by the CFD approach.The developed neural network was beneficial and easy to predict the particle dispersion curves compared to CFD model.The average absolute error given by the ANN model does not reach 5%against 18%by the Lagrangian model and 28% by the Euler drift-flux model of the CFD approach.Athmane Gheziel Salah Hanini Brahim Mohamedi Abdelrahmane Ararem 2017Nuclear Science and Techniques2017,28,1:2
