| 1 | Characterization of monocarboxylate transporter activity in hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To assess the immunoexpression of hypoxiarelated markers in samples from cirrhosis and primary and metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS: From a total of 5836 autopsies performed at the Pathology Department- University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine Hospital- from 2003 to 2009, 188 presented primary liver tumors. Immunohistochemical reactivity for monocarboxylate transporters(MCTs)-1, 2 and 4, CD147 and glucose transporter-1(GLUT1)was assessed in necropsies from 80 cases of HCC. Data were stored and analyzed using the IBM SPSS statistical software(version 19, IBM Company, Armonk, NY). All comparisons were examined for statistical significance using Pearson's χ2 test and Fisher's exact test(when n < 5). The threshold for significant P values was established as P < 0.05.RESULTS: Plasma membrane expression of MCT4 and overall expression of GLUT1 showed progressively higher expression from non-neoplastic to primary HCC and to metastases. In contrast, overall expression of MCT2 was progressively decreased from non-neoplastic to primary HCC and to metastases. MCT1(overall and plasma membrane expression), MCT2 and CD147 plasma membrane expression were associated with absence of cirrhosis, while plasma membrane expression of CD147 was also associated with absence of HBV infection. MCT2 overall expression was associated with lower liver weight, absence of metastasis and absence of abdominal dissemination. Additionally, MCT4 plasma membrane positivity was strongly associated with Ki-67 expression. CONCLUSION: MCT4 and GLUT1 appear to play a role in HCC progression, while MCT2 is lost during progression and associated with better prognosis. | Venncio AF Alves Céline Pinheiro Filipa Morais-Santos Aloisio Felipe-Silva Adhemar Longatto-Filho Fátima Baltazar | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,33: | 11 |
| 2 | Colorectal cancer screening in countries of European Council outside of the EU-28显示文摘AIM: To provide an update on colorectal cancer(CRC) screening programmes in non-European Union(EU)-28 Council of Europe member states as of December 2015. METHODS: The mission of the Council of Europe is to protect and promote human rights in its 47 member countries. Its 19 non-EU member states are Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Republic of Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, FYR of Macedonia, Turkey, and Ukraine(EU-19). The main data source were GLOBOCAN, IARC, WHO, EUCAN, NORDCAN, ENCR, volume X of the CI5, the ministerial and Public Health Agency websites of the individual countries, Pub Med, EMBASE, registries of some websites and the www.cochranelibrary.com, Scopus, www.clinicaltrials.gov, www.clinicaltrialsregister.eu, Research gate, Google and data extracted from screening programme results. RESULTS: Our results show that epidemiological data quality varies broadly between EU-28 and EU-19 countries. In terms of incidence, only 30% of EU-19 countries rank high in data quality as opposed to 86% of EU-28 states. The same applies to mortality data, since 52% of EU-19 countries as against all EU-28 countries are found in the high ranks. Assessment of the method of collection of incidence data showed that only 32% of EU-19 countries are found in the top three quality classes as against 89% of EU-28 countries. For the mortality data, 63% of EU-19 countries are found in the highest ranks as opposed to all EU-28 member states. Interestingly, comparison of neighbouring countries offering regional screening shows, for instance, that incidence and mortality rates are respectively 38.9 and 13.0 in Norway and 29.2 and10.9 in Sweden, whereas in Finland, where a national organised programme is available, they are respectively 23.5 and 9.3. CONCLUSION: Cancer screening should be viewed as a key health care tool, also because investing in screening protects the weakest in the population, decreases the social burden of cancer, and reduces all types of health care costs, including those for radical surgery, long-term hospitalisation, and chemotherapy. | Emma Altobelli Francesco D'Aloisio Paolo Matteo Angeletti | 2016 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,20: | 5 |
| 3 | Anatomical and functional changes after dexamethasone implant and ranibizumab in diabetic macular edema: a retrospective cohort study显示文摘AIM: To investigate the efficacy and safety of ranibizumab(RZB group) and dexamethasone implant(DEX group) intravitreal treatments in patients with treatment-na?ve center involved diabetic macular edema(DME) by means of functional and morphological assessments.METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 50 eyes of 50 patients with DME treated either with RBZ or DEX. Best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA) and microperimetry were evaluated at baseline and during a 6-month follow-up. In addition, central macular thickness(CMT) by means of structural optical coherence tomography(OCT) and retinal capillary plexus density and choriocapillary density by means of OCT angiography were assessed in all cases.RESULTS: Functional and morphological parameters significantly improved during the study period in both groups. BCVA improved significantly in both groups witha greater increase in the DEX group compared to the RBZ group(P=0.030). Microperimetry significantly differed during follow-up between the two treatments(P=0.031). In both groups CMT significantly decreased(P<0.001) without statistically significant differences between the two groups. A statistically significant increase of deep capillary plexus density was detected in both groups at 30 d after therapy. The retreatment rate was 0.70±0.10 and 0.65±0.10 in the RBZ group and 0.65±0.10 and 0.50±0.11 in DEX group at 120 and 180 d respectively. Two out of 25 patients in DEX group showed intraocular pressure increase requiring hypotonic eye drops.CONCLUSION: Both treatments are very effective for DME treatment during 6 mo of follow-up with a lower retreatment rate in DEX group. | Leonardo Mastropasqua Silvio Di Staso Rossella D’Aloisio Alessandra Mastropasqua Luca DiAntonio Alfonso Senatore Marco Ciancaglini Marta Di Nicola Giuseppe Di Martino DanieleTognetto Lisa Toto | 2019 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2019,12,10: | 2 |
