| 1 | Bed planting of wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)improves nitrogen use efficiency and grain yield compared to flat planting显示文摘Conventional flat planting is commonly used for growing wheat in Pakistan and the crop is irrigated by flood irrigation, but it leads to ineffective use of applied nitrogen owing to poor aeration and leaching and volatilization losses. The practice also results in greater crop lodging, lower water use efficiency, and crusting of the soil surface. In contrast, bed planting of wheat not only saves water but improves fertilizer use efficiency and grain yield. Three years of pooled data from the present study showed that wheat planting on beds and nitrogen application at 120 kg ha-1produced 15.06% higher grain yield than flat planting at the same nitrogen rate. Similarly, 25.04%, 15.02%, 14.59%, and 29.83% higher nitrogen uptake, nitrogen use, and agronomic and recovery efficiencies, respectively, were recorded for bed compared to flat planting. Wheat planting on beds with a nitrogen application of80 kg ha-1gave a yield similar to that of flat planting with 120 kg ha-1nitrogen. | 4 | Influence of P-enriched compost application on economics and P use efficiency of a maize–wheat rotation system显示文摘Crop phosphorus(P) deficiency and poor utilization of added P is a major agricultural problem due to reduced solubility of soil P and rapid fixation or precipitation of applied P fertilizer in alkaline and calcareous soils. The effects of P-enriched compost and single superphosphate(SSP) fertilization on maize and wheat yields and P use efficiency in a maize–wheat rotation system were studied for three years. On a three-year average, grain yields of maize and wheat after application of P-enriched compost were increased by 18% and 24%, respectively, in comparison with sole addition of a recommended dose of SSP fertilizer. P-enriched compost addition to soil increased maize and wheat yields by 12% and 17%, respectively, compared to P fertilizer plus FYM incorporation. Soil available P concentration and P uptake were affected significantly by the addition of P-enriched compost. On average, increases in P recovery, use efficiency, and agronomic efficiency of 52%, 18%, and 43% were recorded in maize and increases of 50%, 23%, and 49% in wheat. | 9 | Theoretical investigations of half-metallic ferromagnetism in new Half-Heusler YCrSb and YMnSb alloys using first-principle calculations显示文摘Structural,electronic,and magnetic properties of new predicted half-Heusler YCrSb and YMnSb compounds within the ordered MgAgAs Clb-type structure are investigated by employing first-principal calculations based on density functional theory.Through the calculated total energies of three possible atomic placements,we find the most stable structures regarding YCrSb and YMnSb materials,where Y,Cr(Mn),and Sb atoms occupy the(0.5,0.5,0.5),(0.25,0.25,0.25),and(0,0,0) positions,respectively.Furthermore,structural properties are explored for the non-magnetic and ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic states and it is found that both materials prefer ferromagnetic states.The electronic band structure shows that YCrSb has a direct band gap of 0.78 eV while YMnSb has an indirect band gap of 0.40 eV in the majority spin channel.Our findings show that YCrSb and YMnSb materials exhibit half-metallic characteristics at their optimized lattice constants of 6.67 and 6.56 ,respectively.The half-metallicities associated with YCrSb and YMnSb are found to be robust under large in-plane strains which make them potential contenders for spintronic applications. | M Atif Sattar Muhammad Rashid M Raza Hashmi S A Ahmad Muhammad Imran Fayyaz Hussain | 2016 | Chinese Physics B2016,25,10: | 1 |

| 12 | First-principles prediction of magnetically ordered half-metals above room temperature显示文摘Half-metallicity(HM)offers great potential for engineering spintronic applications,yet only few magnetic materials present metallicity in just one spin channel.In addition,most HM systems become magnetically disordered at temperatures well below ambient conditions,which further hinders the development of spin-based electronic devices.Here,we use first-principles methods based on density functional theory(DFT)to investigate the electronic,magnetic,structural,mixing,and vibrational properties of 90 XYZ half-Heusler(HH)alloys(X=Li,Na,K,Rb,Cs;Y=V,Nb,Ta;Z=Si,Ge,Sn,S,Se,Te).We disclose a total of 28 new HH compounds that are ferromagnetic,vibrationally stable,and HM,with semiconductor band gaps in the range of 1-4 eV and HM band gaps of 0.2-0.8 eV.By performing Monte Carlo simulations of a spin Heisenberg model fitted to DFT energies,we estimate the Curie temperature,T_(C),of each HM compound.We find that 17 HH HM remain magnetically ordered at and above room temperature,namely,300≤T_(C)≤450 K,with total magnetic moments of 2 and 4 mB.A further materials sieve based on zero-temperature mixing energies let us to conclude 5 overall promising HH HM that remain magnetically ordered at and above room temperature:NaVSi,RbVTe,CsVS,CsVSe,and RbNbTe.We also predict 2 semiconductor materials that are ferromagnetic at ambient conditions:LiVSi and LiVGe. | Muhammad Atif Sattar S.Aftab Ahmad Fayyaz Hussain Claudio Cazorla | 2019 | Journal of Materiomics2019,5,3: | 0 |
| 13 | Two novel variants in CYP1B1 gene: a major contributor of autosomal recessive primary congenital glaucoma with allelic heterogeneity in Pakistani patients显示文摘AIM: To find the CYP1 B1 mutations associated with primary congenital glaucoma(PCG) in Pakistani consanguineous pedigrees. METHODS: After getting informed consent, 11 consanguineous pedigrees belonging to different ethnic groups were enrolled. Detailed medical history was recorded and pedigrees were drawn. The standard ophthalmological examination was done to characterize the phenotype. Genomic DNA was extracted from 10 mL whole blood and coding exons and exon intron boundaries of CYP1 B1 gene were directly sequenced. Bioinformatics tools were used to model the mutant protein and predict the effect of novel variants on protein structure and function. RESULTS: Sequencing analysis revealed 5 different CYP1 B1 variants in 7 families(7/11; 64%), including two novel variants. A common mutation, p.R390 H was found in four families, whereas p.P437 L was found once in a family. Two novel variants, a homozygous non sense variant p.L13* and a compound heterozygous variant, p.P350 T along with p.V364 M were segregating with PCGin two families. All the patients had the variable onset and severity of the disease. The success rate of early clinical interventions was observed dependent on mutation types and position. Two different haplotypes were associated with frequently found mutation, p.R390 H. CONCLUSION: Identification of novel CYP1 B1 variants reassert the genetic heterogeneity of Pakistani PCG patients. The patients with missense mutations show severe phenotypic presentations and poor vision after surgical interventions as compare to patients with null variants.
