EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF BEDLOAD TRANSPORT IN UNSTEADY OPEN-CHANNEL FLOW显示文摘Experiments are performed to study bedload transport in both steady uniform and unsteady open-channel flows. Data of Steady uniform flow fit well with the existing formula in the literature. If the formula for sediment transport in a uniform flow is used to predict the bedload transport rate in unsteady flow, the calculated and the measured bedload transport rates are different. For the runs with predominately accelerating flow, the calculated sediment transport rate is smaller than the measured one, while for the runs with predominately decelerating flow, the calculated sediment transport rate is much larger than the measured one. Further analysis shows that if the flow intensity is calculated using the measured friction velocity instead of the bed slope, the calculated bedload transport rate using the formula for uniform flow agrees reasonably well with the measured one. | T.SONG Post-Doctoral Fellow, School of Civil and Structural Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Nanyang Avenue, Singapore 639798. | 3 | COHERENT, REGULAR AND SIMPLE SYSTEMS IN ZERO DECOMPOSITIONS OF PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL SYSTEMS显示文摘This paper studies triangular differential systems arising from various decompositions of partial differential polynomial systems. In theoretical aspects, we emphasizeon translating differential problems into purely algebraic ones. Rosenfeld’s lemma is extended to a more general setting; relations between passivity and coherence are clarified;regular systems and simple systems are generalized and proposed, respectively. In algorithmic aspects, we review the Ritt-Wu and Seidenberg algorithms, and outline a methodfor decomposing a differential polynomial system into simple ones. Some applications arealso discussed. | LI Ziming(Institute Of Algorithms and Scientific Computing, German National Research Centerfor Information Technology, D-52754 Sankt Augustin, Germany)WANG Dongming(LEIBNIZ-IMAG, 46, Avenue Felix Viallet,38031 Grenoble Cedex, France) | 1999 | Systems Science and Mathematical Sciences1999,12,S1: | 7
Large range step method for acoustic waveguide with two layer media显示文摘A numerical method is developed for solving the two-dimensional Helmholtz equation in a two-layer region bounded by a flat top, a flat bottom and a curved interface. A better local orthogonal transformation is used to flatten the curved interface of the waveguide. The one-way re-formulation based on the Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) map is then used to reduce the boundary value problem to an initial value problem. Numerical implemetation of the resulting operator Riccati equation uses a large range step method for discretizing the range variable and a truncated local eigenfunction expansion for approximating the operators. This method is particularly useful for solving long range wave propagation problems in slowly varying waveguides. | ZHU Jianxin and LU Yayan(1. | 5 | Intrinsic control of axon regeneration显示文摘Spinal cord injury disrupts the connections between the brain and spinal cord, often resulting in the loss of sensory and motor function below the lesion site. The most important reason for such permanent functional deficits is the failure of injured axons to regenerate after injury. In principle, the functional recovery could be achieved by two forms of axonal regrowth: the regeneration of lesioned axons which will reconnect with their original targets and the sprouting of spared axons that form new circuits and compensate for the lost function. Our recent studies reveal the activity of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, a major regulator of new protein synthesis, as a critical determinant of axon regrowth in the adult retinal ganglion neurons[1]. In this review, I summarize current understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms that control the intrinsic regenerative ability of mature neurons. | Zhigang He F.M. | 6 | Miscibility of Semi-flexible Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Copolyesteramide with Polyamide 66显示文摘Liquid crystalline polymer-polyamide 66 (LCP/PA66) blends were compounded by using a Brabender mixing followed by compression moulding. The LCP employed was a semi-flexible liquid crystalline copolyesteramide based on 30% (molar fraction ) of p-amino benzoic acid (ABA ) and 70% (molar fraction) of poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET). The LCP/PA66 blends were investigated in terms of the thermal and dynamic mechanical properties. It was found that PA66 and LCP components of the blends are miscible in the molten state, but are partially miscible in the solid state. The inclusion of the semi-flexible LCP into PA66 retards the crystallization rate of PA66. Furthermore, the melting temperature and the degree of crystallinity of PA66 are reduced considerably due to the LCP addition. | XIE Xiao-Lin, TJONG S. C. and LI R. K. Y. | 7 | An Internal State Variable Model for the Low Temperature Tempering of Low Alloy Steels显示文摘An internal state variable (ISV) framework is used to predict the rate and degree of strain relaxation associated with the stage I, low temperature tempering of martensite. A single variable tracks the change in volume between the tempered an untempered structures. The rate at which this occurs is taken to be a function of martensite fraction, temperature, degree of tempering, and carbon concentration. Experimental dilatometty data is used to both fit and validate the model. | Mark T. Lusk, Young-Kook Lee, Herng-Jeng Jou, William H. | 8 | MODELING OF CONTROLLED THERMO-MECHANICAL PROCESSING OF TUBES FOR ENHANCED MANUFACTURING AND PERFORMANCE显示文摘An integrated mathematical model to simulate seamless tube rolling processes has been developed at The Timken Company. The model is capable of simulating the thermal, deformation and microstructure evolution in the piercing, elongating and reducing/sizing and the austenite decomposition in the mill annealing and cooling operations. Finite difference schemes are employed to model cooling, reducing/sizing and stretch reducing, and finite-element schemes are employed to simulate piercing and elongating. The model predicts the thermal history, deformation, rolling load, torque, recrystallization and grain growth in hot tube rolling, austenite decomposition in cooling or annealing, and the final structure-properties. In this paper mathematical models which are employed to describe the thermal, deformation and microstructure evolution along with the modeling results are presented. The developed 'tube rolling mill in the computer' provides a powerful tool for engineers for product and process development, process control, process optimization and quality control. | D. Jin E. D. | 9 | Origin of pit chains in the floor of lunar Copernican craters显示文摘There are small pit chains in the floor of lunar Copernican craters. They are usually so small in scale that there are few lunar spacecrafts to detect their detailed morphology. Combining camera data from Lunar Orbiter, Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), Kaguya and Chang’e-1 missions, 5 representative large Copernican craters on various terrains of the lunar surface are chosen to study the origin of the pit chains in the crater floor. The morphology and distribution characteristic of the pit chains are referred by the high resolution images in this research. It is suggested that it is the magma activities from the subsurface magma layer combining with the existence of fractures and faults under the crater floor that leaded the formation of the pit chains. The model is further verified and discussed using the regolith thickness data in the crater floor. Our model suggests that the pit chains are still developing in the floor of the Copernican craters and the Moon may not be totally cold. Finally, the model limitation and potential future work are discussed based on available data. | XIAO ZhiYong 1* , ZENG ZuoXun 1,2 , XIAO Long 1,2 , FA WenZhe 3 & HUANG Qian 3,4 1 Faculty of Earth Sciences, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074, China 2 Research Center for Space Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074, China 3 Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, 4 Avenue de Neptune, Saint Maur des Fosse’s, 94100, France 4 Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai 200030, China | 2010 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2010,53,12: | 4
The role of inflammatory mediators in severe acute pancreatitis and regulation of glucocorticoids显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of glucocorticoids on systemic inflammatory mediator release inrats with acute pancreatitis and the outcome of dexamethasone in treatment of acute pancreatitis.METHODS: Sixty-eight Wistar rats were divided into sham, acute pancreatitis, and treatment(intravenous dexamethasone 0.5 mg/kg) groups. Experimental acute pancreatitis was induced by theinjection of 5% sodium taurocholate (0.1 ml/100 mg body weight) into the pancreatic-biliary duct. ThebIood samples were obtained and examined for 6-keto-PGI1α, TXB2 and IL-6 postoperatively at 3,6 and12 hours, respectively. The pancreatic samples were evaluated by a blinded method. Twelve-hour survivalrate was determined and compared between the groups.RESULTS: The high serum concentrations of 6-keto-PGI1α, TXB2 and IL-6 were noted in the rats withacute pancreatitis associated with pancreatic hemorrhage and necrosis. Their 12-hour survival rate was42.9%. The rats in the treatment group survived with significantly reduced serum concentrations of6-keto-PGI1α, TXB2 and IL-6 (P<0.05). Their pancreatic morphology was normal.CONCLUSION: Dexamethasone may reduce the serum concentration of 6-keto-PGI1α, TXB2, and IL-6,and the severity of acute pancreatitis while increasing the survival rate of rats with acute pancreatitis. | Zi-Fa Wang Cheng-En Pan Yi Lu Shao-Gao Liu Guan-Jun Zhang Xue-Bin Zhang the Departments of Surgery and Pathology First Hospital, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an 710061, China the Department of Surgery, University of Pittsburgh, NW607, Montefiore University Hospital, 3459 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, USA | 2003 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2003,2,3: | 3
Widely predicting specific protein functions based on protein-protein interaction data and gene expression profile显示文摘GESTs (gene expression similarity and taxonomy similarity), a gene functional prediction approach previously proposed by us, is based on gene expression similarity and concept similarity of functional classes defined in Gene Ontology (GO). In this paper, we extend this method to protein-protein interac-tion data by introducing several methods to filter the neighbors in protein interaction networks for a protein of unknown function(s). Unlike other conventional methods, the proposed approach automati-cally selects the most appropriate functional classes as specific as possible during the learning proc-ess, and calls on genes annotated to nearby classes to support the predictions to some small-sized specific classes in GO. Based on the yeast protein-protein interaction information from MIPS and a dataset of gene expression profiles, we assess the performances of our approach for predicting protein functions to “biology process” by three measures particularly designed for functional classes organ-ized in GO. Results show that our method is powerful for widely predicting gene functions with very specific functional terms. Based on the GO database published in December 2004, we predict some proteins whose functions were unknown at that time, and some of the predictions have been confirmed by the new SGD annotation data published in April, 2006. | GAO Lei1, LI Xia1,2, GUO Zheng1,2, ZHU MingZhu1, LI YanHui1 & RAO ShaoQi1,3 1 Department of Bioinformatics, Harbin Medical University, Harbin 150086, China 2 School of Biology Science and Technology, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China 3 Departments of Molecular Cardiology and Cardiovascular Medicine, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, 9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleve-land, Ohio 44195, USA | 2007 | Science China(Life Sciences)2007,50,1: | 3
FROM YELLOW RIVER MODELSTO MODELING OF RIVERS显示文摘The Yellow River in China is a heavily sediment-laden river that challenges the best minds to understand its hydraulic behavior. Scientific scale modeling of the river was first carried out in Germany, separately by Engels and Franzuis, in the early 1930s. It was the major river modeling at that time, and the disagreement between their results had profound effect on the regulations of the river and on later physical river hydraulic modeling. The background leading to the Yellow River models and the conditions of the experimental results are reviewed in this paper. Finally, issues related to numerical and physical modeling of rivers are discussed. | Ben Chie YEN (Water Resources Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 205 North Mathews Avenue, Urbana, IL 61801 USA) | 1999 | International Journal of Sediment Research1999,14,2: | 2

Development and optimisation of electrode materials in solid oxide fuel cells显示文摘Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is an all solid electrochemical device to convert fuels such as hydrogen and natural gas to electricity with high efficiency and very low greenhouse gas emission compared to traditional thermal power generation plants. Moreover, the reliability and efficiency of SOFC is critically dependent on the performance and stability of its components including anode, cathode and electrolyte. This in turn is largely dependent on the material selection and the fabrication processes. In this paper, specific examples are given to demonstrate strategy and process in the development and optimisation of electrode materials such as Ni/Y 2O 3 ZrO 2 cermet anodes and (LaSr)MnO 3 based cathodes. The results also demonstrate the importance of fabrication processes and that the understanding of the electrode process plays a very important role in the optimisation process of electrode materials. | JIANG San ping(Fuel Cell Strategic Research Programme, School of Mechanical and Production Engineering,Nanyang Technological University, Nanyang Avenue, Singapore 639798) | 2002 | 电池2002,32,3: | 2
MicroRNAs in cardiovascular diseases:From bench to bedside显示文摘MicroRNAs(miRNAs) are a novel class of endogenous, small, noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression via degradation or translational inhibition of their target mRNAs.Functionally,an individual miRNA is important as a transcription factor because it is able to regulate the expression of its multiple target genes. As a group,miRNAs are able to directly regulate at least 30%of genes in a cell.In addition, other genes may also be regulated indirectly by miRNAs.It is therefore not surprising that miRNAs could be the pivotal regulators in normal development, physiology, and pathology. Recent studies have demonstrated that miRNAs are highly expressed in cardiovasculature and their expression is dysregulated in diseased hearts and vessels. miRNAs are found to be critical modulators for cardiovascular cell functions such as cell differentiation, contraction, migration, proliferation, and apoptosis.Accordingly,miRNAs are involved in the many cardiovascular diseases such as cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure, ischemic heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias, angiogenesis, atherosclerosis and restenosis after angioplasty. Both basic and clinical studies have revealed miRNAs are a novel class of biomarkers and therapeutic targets for cardiovascular diseases. In this talk,we will report a translational study about the roles of circulating miRNAs in the diagnosis of myocardial infraction. We identified that miR-1 could be a novel sensitive diagnostic biomarker for myocardial infraction. In addition, the research progress of miRNAs in cardiovascular diseases from bench to bedside and the research perspective summarized by NIH microRNA working group will be reported. | Chunxiang Zhang (Cardiovascular Research Laboratory,Department of Anesthesiology,New Jersey Medical School,University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, 185 South Orange Avenue,MSB-E548,Newark,NJ 07101) | 2011 | 岭南心血管病杂志2011,17,S1: | 2
| 16 | Weld Models Incorporating the HAZ Phase Transformation Effects, Comparison between Experimental and Numerical Results显示文摘Numerical simulations of a representative test of welding process are presented in this paper. A French vessel steel, which involves metallurgical phase transformations in solid state is considered in this work. The aim is to validate the thermal-metallurgical-mechanical models taking into account the metallurgical transformations in the finite element codes Sysweld (Framasoft) and Code Aster (EDF). The test is performed on a thin disc submitted to a thermal cycle loading by means of a CO2 laser beam, which leads to metallurgical phase transformations. The thermal, metallurgical and mechanical numerical results have been compared to the experimental results (temperatures, sizes of transformed zones, displacements and residual stresses and strains). The main objective of the numerical analysis is to have some results which enable to give some indications on the ability of the numerical codes to describe the observed phenomena. For that, it is necessary to simulate accurately the thermo-metallurgical history. The comparison of experimental results with the numerical ones leads to some interesting orientations related to the capacities of the considered models to describe the observed phenomena. | V.
