1Surgical treatment for liver cancer显示文摘Primary liver cancer is amongst the commonest tumors worldwide,particularly in parts of the developing world,and is increasing in incidence. Over the past three decades,surgical hepatic resection has evolved from a high risk,resource intensive procedure with limited application,to a safe and commonly performed operation with a range of indications. This article reviews the approach to surgical resection for malignancies such as hepatocellular cancer,metastatic liver de-posits and neuroendocrine tumors. 2Anti-inflammatory pathways and alcoholic liver disease: Role of an adiponectin/interleukin-10/heme oxygenase-1 pathway显示文摘The development of alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is a complex process involving both the parenchymal and non-parenchymal cells in the liver. Enhanced inflammation in the liver during ethanol exposure is an important contributor to injury. Kupffer cells, the resident macrophages in liver, are particularly critical to the onset of ethanol-induced liver injury. Chronic ethanol exposure sensitizes Kupffer cells to activation by lipopolysaccharide via Toll-like receptor 4. This sensitization enhances production of inflammatory mediators, such as tumor necrosis factor-α and reactive oxygen species, that contribute to hepatocyte dysfunction, necrosis, apoptosis, and fibrosis. Impaired resolution of the inflammatory process probably also contributes to ALD. The resolution of inflammation is an active, highly coordinated response that can potentially be manipulated via therapeutic interventions to treat chronic inflammatory diseases. Recent studies have identif ied an adiponectin/interleukin-10/heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) pathway that is profoundly effective in dampening the enhanced activation of innate immune responses in primary cultures of Kupffer cells, as well as in an in vivo mouse model of chronic ethanol feeding. Importantly, induction of HO-1 also reduces ethanol-induced hepatocellular apoptosis in this in vivo model. Based on these data, we hypothesize that the development of therapeutic agents to regulate HO-1 and its downstream targets could be useful in enhancing the resolution of inflammation during ALD and preventing progression of early stages of liver injury.Palash Mandal Michele T Pritchard Laura E Nagy 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,11:11
3Exploring the role of molecular biomarkers as a potential weapon against gastric cancer: a review of the literature显示文摘Gastric cancer(GC) is a global health problem and a major cause of cancer-related death with high recurrence rates ranging from 25% to 40% for GC patients staging Ⅱ-Ⅳ. Unfortunately, while the majority of GC patients usually present with advanced tumor stage; there is still limited evidence-based therapeutic options. Current approach to GC management consists mainly of; endoscopy followed by, gastrectomy and chemotherapy or chemo-radiotherapy. Recent studies in GC have confirmed that it is a heterogeneous disease. Many molecular characterization studies have been performed in GC. Recent discoveries of the molecular pathways underlying the disease have opened the door to more personalized treatment and better predictable outcome. The identification of molecular markers is a useful tool for clinical managementin GC patients, assisting in diagnosis, evaluation of response to treatment and development of novel therapeutic modalities. While chemotherapeutic agents have certain physiological effects on the tumor cells, the prediction of the response is different from one type of tumor to the other. The specificity of molecular biomarkers is a principal feature driving their application in anticancer therapies. 5Inverse Gas Chromatography Used to Study Lubricating Oil Oxidation Mechanism via Changes in Kovats and Flory-Huggins Retention Parameters显示文摘Inverse gas chromatographic technique(IGC) was attempted as a new approach to follow the chem-ical changes that occur during lubricating base oil oxidation.Three groups of the oxidized base oils were pre-pared at different oxygen flow rates,periods and temperatures according to IP48method.The corrected reten-tion volumes(VR) were calculated for a series of selected test solutes possessing different functional groups onthe oxidized base oils used as stationary phases.Kovats retention index(I),Flory-Huggins interaction parame-ter(κ1∞,2),and partial molar free energy of solution(ΔGL∞),were calculated for the given test solutes fromtheirVR.The relationships between theIvalues and the oxidation variables were plotted and discussed.Theobtained results were confirmed by potentiometric titration.The study reveals that the magnitudes of variationofI,κ1∞,2orΔG∞Lretention parameters depend on the oxidation degree of the base oil.Large differences be-tween theIvalues permit discrimination between the different oxidation steps.Key words: inverse gas chromatography(IGC);oxidation;lubricating base oil;Kovats retentionMOSTAFA Nagy E EISSA Elham A 2006色谱2006,24,3:2
