| 1 | Interleukin-12 as a Genetic Adjuvant Enhances Hepatitis C Virus NS3 DNA Vaccine Immunogenicity显示文摘Hepatitis C virus (HCV) chronic infection is a worldwide health problem, and numerous efforts have been invested to develop novel vaccines. An efficient vaccine requires broad immune response induction against viral proteins. To achieve this goal, we constructed a DNA vaccine expressing nonstructural 3 (NS3) gene (pcDNA3.1-HCV-NS3) and assessed the immune response in C57BL/6 mice. In this study, the NS3 gene was amplified with a nested-reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method using sera of HCV-infected patients with genotype 1a. The resulting NS3 gene was subcloned into a pcDNA3.1 eukaryotic expression vector, and gene expression was detected by western blot. The resultant DNA vaccine was co-administered with interleukin-12 (IL-12) as an adjuvant to female C57BL/6 mice. After the final immunizations, lymphocyte proliferation, cytotoxicity, and cytokine levels were assessed to measure immune responses. Our data suggest that co-administration of HCV NS3 DNA vaccine with IL-12 induces production of significant levels of both IL-4 and interferon (IFN)-γ (p<0.05). Cytotoxicity and lymphocyte proliferation responses of vaccinated mice were significantly increased compared to control (p<0.05). | 2 | Fabrication and mechanical properties of MWCNTs-reinforced aluminum composites by hot extrusion显示文摘Over the past decade,the interest in aluminum composites reinforced with carbon nanotubes has grown significantly.Studies have been carried out to overcome problems with uniform dispersion,interfacial bonding,void formation and carbide formation of the composites.In the present work,multi-wall carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) aluminum composites were produced.High-energy ball milling with the aim at developing well-dispersed MWCNTs Al composites was followed by cold compaction,sintering,and hot extrusion at 500 ℃.Different amounts of stearic acid as processing control agent(PCA) is used in order to minimize cold welding of the Al particles,and to produce finer particles.Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and X-ray diffraction(XRD) were employed to analyze the MWCNTs,the aluminum powder,and the composites' microstructural behavior.The hardness and tensile properties of the composites are also evaluated.The results showed 500% increase in yield stress after the addition of 1 wt% MWCNTs in Al-MWCNTs based composite.The ball-milling time of 4 h is found to be sufficient as excessive milling time destroys a vast number of MWCNTs. | Mortazavi Majid Majzoobi G.H. | 3 | Application of Rice Husk Biochar for Achieving Sustainable Agriculture and Environment显示文摘This paper critically reviewed the current knowledge and challenges of rice husk biochar(RHB)production and its effects on soil properties,plant growth,immobilization of heavy metals,reduction of nutrient leaching and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.The characteristics of RHBs produced at various pyrolysis temperatures were discussed and compared to biochars derived from other agro-industrial wastes.RHBs produced at higher pyrolysis temperatures show lower hydrogen/carbon ratio,which suggests the presence of higher aromatic carbon compounds.The increase of pyrolysis temperature also results in production of RHBs with higher ash content,lower yield and higher surface area.RHB usually has higher silicon and ash contents and lower carbon content compared to biochars derived from other feedstocks at the same pyrolysis conditions.Although it depends on soil type,RHB application can improve soil organic carbon content,cation exchange capacity,available K concentration,bulk density and microbial activity.The effect of RHB on soil aggregation mainly depends on soil texture.The growth of different crops is also enhanced by application of RHB.RHB addition to soil can immobilize heavy metals and herbicides and reduce their bioavailability.RHB application shows a significant capacity in reduction of nitrate leaching,although its magnitude depends on the biochar application rate and soil biogeochemical characteristics.Use of RHB,especially in paddy fields,shows a promising mitigation effect on greenhouse gas(CH4,CO2 and N2O)emissions.Although RHB characteristics are also related to other factors such as pyrolysis heating rate and residence time,its performance for specific applications(e.g.carbon sequestration,pH amendment)can be manipulated by adjusting the pyrolysis temperature.More research is needed on long-term field applications of RHB to fully understand the advantages and disadvantages of RHB as a soil amendment. | Hossein Asadi Mohammad Ghorbani Mehran Rezaei-Rashti Sepideh Abrishamkesh Elnaz Amirahmadi Chen Chengrong Manouchehr Gorji | 2021 | Rice science2021,28,4: | 4 |
| 4 | Dental stem cells:The role of biomaterials and scaffolds in developing novel therapeutic strategies显示文摘Dental stem cells(DSCs)are self-renewable cells that can be obtained easily from dental tissues,and are a desirable source of autologous stem cells.The use of DSCs for stem cell transplantation therapeutic approaches is attractive due to their simple isolation,high plasticity,immunomodulatory properties,and multipotential abilities.Using appropriate scaffolds loaded with favorable biomolecules,such as growth factors,and cytokines,can improve the proliferation,differentiation,migration,and functional capacity of DSCs and can optimize the cellular morphology to build tissue constructs for specific purposes.An enormous variety of scaffolds have been used for tissue engineering with DSCs.Of these,the scaffolds that particularly mimic tissue-specific micromilieu and loaded with biomolecules favorably regulate angiogenesis,cell-matrix interactions,degradation of extracellular matrix,organized matrix formation,and the mineralization abilities of DSCs in both in vitro and in vivo conditions.DSCs represent a promising cell source for tissue engineering,especially for tooth,bone,and neural tissue restoration.The purpose of the present review is to summarize the current developments in the major scaffolding approaches as crucial guidelines for tissue engineering using DSCs and compare their effects in tissue and organ regeneration. | Cornelia Larissa Granz Ali Gorji | 2020 | World Journal of Stem Cells2020,12,9: | 3 |
| 5 | Effect of soil pore size distribution on plant-available water and least limiting water range as soil physical quality indicators显示文摘Soil pore size distribution(SPSD) is one of the most important soil physical properties. This research investigated the relationships of location and shape parameters of the SPSD curves with plant-available water(PAW) and least limiting water range(LLWR) of the light-textured soils at the Torogh Agricultural Research Station in north-eastern Iran. Soil moisture release curve(SMRC), PAW and LLWR in matric heads of 100 and 330 h Pa for the field capacity and location and shape parameters of the SPSD curves of 30 soils with different texture and organic carbon contents were determined, and the variable relationships were statistically analyzed. The results showed that the median equivalent pore diameter(de), mean de, standard deviation(SD*), and skewness of the SPSD curves were significantly correlated with PAW(PAW330) and LLWR(LLWR330) measured in a matric head of 330 h Pa. Decrease in deand increase in the diversity of soil pore size(SD*) increased PAW330 and LLWR330. The SD* values of all the soil samples were lower than the optimal ranges suggested in literature. Neither PAW nor LLWR values were significantly different in the soils with the optimal modal deand those with non-optimal modal de. Optimal values of median and mean equivalent pore diameters and kurtosis of SPSD curves led to a significant improvement of PAW330 and LLWR330 as soil physical quality indicators.
