1Colonoscopic yield of colorectal neoplasia in daily clinical practice显示文摘AIM:To assess the prevalence and location of ad-vanced neoplasia in patients undergoing colonoscopy,and to compare the yield per indication.METHODS:In a multicenter colonoscopy survey (n = 18 hospitals) in the Amsterdam area (Northern Holland),data of all colonoscopies performed during a three month period in 2005 were analyzed. The location and the histological features of all colonic neoplasia were recorded. The prevalence and the distribution ofadvanced colorectal neoplasia and differences in yield between indication clusters were evaluated. Advanced neoplasm was defi ned as adenoma > 10 mm in size,with > 25% villous features or with high-grade dyspla-sia or cancer.RESULTS:A total of 4623 eligible patients underwent a total colonoscopy. The prevalence of advanced neo-plasia was 13%,with 281 (6%) adenocarcinomas and 342 (7%) advanced adenomas. Sixty-seven percent and 33% of advanced neoplasia were located in the distal and proximal colon,respectively. Of all patients with right-sided advanced neoplasia (n = 228),51% had a normal distal colon,whereas 27% had a syn-chronous distal adenoma. Ten percent of all colono-scopies were performed in asymptomatic patients,7% of whom had advanced neoplasia. In the respective procedure indication clusters,the prevalence of right-sided advanced neoplasia ranged from 11%-57%. CONCLUSION:One out of every 7-8 colonoscopies yielded an advanced colorectal neoplasm. 2Evaluation of three-dimensional biofilms on antibacterial bonding agents containing novel quaternary ammonium methacrylates显示文摘Antibacterial adhesives are promising to inhibit biofilms and secondary caries.The objectives of this study were to synthesize and incorporate quaternary ammonium methacrylates into adhesives,and investigate the alkyl chain length effects on three-dimensional biofilms adherent on adhesives for the first time.Six quaternary ammonium methacrylates with chain lengths of 3,6,9,12,16 and 18were synthesized and incorporated into Scotchbond Multi-Purpose.Streptococcus mutans bacteria were cultured on resin to form biofilms.Confocal laser scanning microscopy was used to measure biofilm thickness,live/dead volumes and live-bacteria percentage vs.distance from resin surface.Biofilm thickness was the greatest for Scotchbond control;it decreased with increasing chain length,reaching a minimum at chain length 16.Live-biofilm volume had a similar trend.Dead-biofilm volume increased with increasing chain length.The adhesive with chain length 9 had 37%live bacteria near resin surface,but close to 100%live bacteria in the biofilm top section.For chain length 16,there were nearly 0%live bacteria throughout the three-dimensional biofilm.In conclusion,strong antibacterial activity was achieved by adding quaternary ammonium into adhesive,with biofilm thickness and live-biofilm volume decreasing as chain length was increased from 3 to 16.Antibacterial adhesives typically only inhibited bacteria close to its surface;however,adhesive with chain length 16 had mostly dead bacteria in the entire three-dimensional biofilm.Antibacterial adhesive with chain length 16 is promising to inhibit biofilms at the margins and combat secondary caries.Han Zhou Michael D Weir Joseph M Antonucci Gary E Schumacher Xue-Dong Zhou Hockin H K Xu 2014International Journal of Oral Science2014,6,2:5
3Successful operation of a cooperative SLR station of China and Argentina in San Juan显示文摘We introduced the observations and researches using a Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) system with high precision, which was designed and made in China and installed in the Observatory of San Juan Uni- versity, Argentina, the capability of the system and the achievement of the cooperative procedure be- tween China and Argentina. The SLR station in San Juan, set up by China and Argentina, is quite sig- nificant for improving the distribution of SLR stations and enhancing the orbital coverage of the whole earth. Since the SLR system started to work in the Observatory of San Juan University in the beginning of 2006, the operation is rather good, and rich data with high precision have been obtained.
