| 2 | An analysis of 10218 ulcerative colitis cases in China显示文摘AIM: To analyze the characteristics of ulcerative colitis(UC)in Chine.METHODS: From 1981 to 2000, a total of 10218 patients of UCreported in Chinese medical literature and including ourcases diagnosed were analyzed according to the diagnosticcriteria of Lennard-Jones.RESULTS: The number of cases increased by 3.08 times overthe past 10 years (2506 patients were diagnosed from 1981 to1990 while 7512 patients were diagnosed from 1991 to 2000).Lesion renge were described in 7966 patients, 5592 (70.20%)were proctosigmoiditis or proctitis, 1792(22.50%) left-sidedcolitis, 582(7.30%) pancolitis. Among the 8122 patients,2826 (34.8%) had first episole, 4272 (52.6%) had chronicrelapse, 869 (10.7%) were of chronic persist type, 154(1.9%) were of acuts fulminant tyle. The course of theillress were described in 5867 patients, 4427(75.5%) wereless than 5 years, 910 (15.5%) between 5 and 10 years, 530(9.1%) more then 10 years. Six hundred and sixteenpatients patients (6.1% ) had extraintestinal manifestations.The mean age at the diagnosis was 40.7 years( range 6-8 years, and the peak ages 30-49 years). The male to femaleratio was1.09. Among 270 patients diagnosed in ourhospital, 36 had histories of smoking, there was no negativeassociation between the severity of UC and smoking ( P >0.05), 21 smokers were followed up for one year, 15 of themhad given up smoking when the disease were diagnosed,and one year later, 7 patients relapsed, another 6 patientscontinued smoking, and one year later, 2 patients relapsed.Among 270 UC patients diagnosed in our hospital, 4 patients(1.48%) from 2 families had familial history of UC.Treatment was mentioned in 6859 patients, only SASP and/or corticosteroid only in 1276 patients(18.6%), only Chineseherbs in 1377 patients (20.1%), combined Chinese andwestern medicine in 4056 patients (59.1%), surgery wasperformed in 87 patients (1.3%), other treatments in 63patients(0.9%).CONCLUSIONS: In China, number of UC patients increasedsignificantly in the past 10 years. Lesions are commonlylocated to left side colon. The course is short with rereextraintestinal manifestations. The age of onset is relativelyhigh. Males and females are nearly equally affected. Nonegative relation was found between smoking and severityof the disease. | 5 | Changes of NF-kB,p53,Bcl-2 and caspase in apoptosis induced by JTE-522 in human gastric adenocarcinoma cell line AGS cells:role of reactive oxygen species显示文摘AIM: To identify whether JTE-522 can induce apoptosis inAGS cells and ROS also involved in the process, and toinvestigate the changes in NF-kB, p53, bcl-2 and caspase in the apoptosis process.METHODS: Cell culture, MTT, Electromicroscopy, agarosegel electrophoresis, lucigenin, Western blot andelectrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) analysis wereemployed to investigate the effect of JTE-522 on cellproliferation and apoptosis in AGS cells and relatedmolecular mechanisms.RESULTS: JTE-522 inhibited the growth of AGS cells andinduced the apoptosis. Lucigenin assay showed the generationof ROS in cells under incubation with JTE-522. The inc eareasedROS generation might contribute to the induction of AGS cellsto apoptosis. EMSA and Westem blot revealed that NF-kBactivity was almost completely inhibited by preventing thedegradation of IkBα. Additionally, by using Western blot weconfirmed that the level of bcl-2 was decreased, whereas p53showed a great increase following JTE-522 treatment. | 6 | Principle of equipartition of entransy dissipation for heat exchanger design显示文摘In the present work,a principle of equipartition of entransy dissipation(EoED) for heat exchanger design is established,which says that for a heat exchanger design with given heat duty and heat transfer area,the total entransy dissipation rate reaches the minimum when the local entransy dissipation rate is uniformly distributed along the heat exchanger.When the heat transfer coefficient is unfixed,the total entransy dissipation obtained by the EoED principle is less than that obtained by the principle of equipartition of temperature difference(EoTD).Furthermore,the exchanger effectiveness obtained by the EoED principle is larger than that obtained by the EoTD principle.When the heat transfer coefficient is fixed,the EoED principle is equivalent to the EoTD principle.We show that the equipartition of entropy production(EoEP) and EoED principles give rise to difference in entropy generation and entransy dissipation for a heat exchanger optimization design.The discrepancies are caused by distinct features of entropy production minimization and entransy dissipation minimization principles,the former is to optimize the design of heat exchanger by making the lost available work minimum,while the latter is not involved with heat-work conversion.It is found that the entropy generation number is not suitable for evaluating heat exchanger performance,since it directly depends on the inlet and outlet temperatures of working fluids.On the contrary,the entransy dissipation number is not directly related to the inlet and outlet temperatures of working fluids.Therefore,the entransy dissipation number is more suitable for serving as a criterion to evaluate heat exchanger performance. | GUO JiangFeng,XU MingTian & CHENG Lin Institute of Thermal Science and Technology,Shandong University,Jinan 250061,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010，53，5： | 46 |

| 11 | Effect of myosin heavy chain composition of muscles on meat quality in Laiwu pigs and Duroc显示文摘In order to explain the mechanism of high meat quality in Laiwu pigs and investigate the relation between myosin heavy chains (MyHC) composition and meat quality, meat quality analysis was conducted and mRNA expression of MyHC I, IIa, IIx, IIb was quantified by real-time fluorescence PCR in longissimus muscle (LM) and semimembranous muscle of Laiwu pigs and Duroc. The result indicated that, compared with Duroc, mRNA expression of MyHC IIa, IIx in LM and semimembranous muscle of Laiwu pigs was significantly increased, mRNA expression of MyHC IIb was dramatically decreased. However, the expression of MyHC I was not significantly affected by breeds. The correlation between mRNA expression of MyHC I, IIa, IIx in LM and meat color, pH value, marbling, intramuscular fat content was positive, but shear value of LM was negative. The relation between MyHC IIb mRNA expression and marbling, intramuscular fat content was dramatically negative, whereas shear value was strikingly positive, as well as fiber diameter, but without reaching statistical significance. | 13 | Lightning activity and precipitation structure of hailstorms显示文摘By using the cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning location data from the lightning detection network of He- nan Province, surface Doppler radar data and standard orbit data of PR, TMI and LIS on TRMM satellite, the spatial and temporal characteristics of CG lightning flashes in 10 severe hailstorms are analyzed. The results show that the percentage of +CG lightning in these hailstorms is high with an average value of 45.5%. There is a distinct increase in CG flash rate during the rapid development stage of hailstorms. The hailstone falling corresponds to an active positive flash period, and the increase of +CG flash rate is generally accompanied with a decrease of –CG flash rate. The flash rate declines rapidly during the dissipating stage of hailstorms. The precipitation structure and lightning activity in two typical hail- storms are studied in detail. It is found that strong convective cells with reflectivity greater than 30dBZ mainly are situated in the front region of hailstorms, whereas the trailing stratiform region is in the rear part of the hailstorms. The maximum heights of echo top are higher than 14 km. Convective rain con- tributes much more rainfall to the total than stratiform rain, and the convective rain takes about 85% and 97% of the total in the two cases, respectively. Total lightning in the hailstorms is very active with the flash rate up to 183 fl/min and 55 fl/min, respectively. The results also indicate that most lightning flashes occurred in the echo region greater than 30 dBZ and its immediate periphery. The probability of lightning occurrence is 20 times higher in the convective region than in the stratiform region. The result suggests that the lightning information is helpful to the identification of convective rain region. | 17 | Effect of areca on contraction of colonic muscle strips in rats显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effects of areca on the contractileactivity of isolated colonic muscle strips in rats andmechanism involved.METHODS: Each strip (LMPC, longitudinal muscle ofproximal colon; CMPC, circular muscle of proximal colon;LMDC, longitudinal muscle of distal colon; CMlC, circularmuscle of distal colon. ) was suspended in a tissue chambercontaining 5 mL Krebs solution (37 ℃), bubbledcontinuously with 950 mL@ L-1 O2 and 50 mL@ L-1 CO2 . Themean contractile amplitude (A), the resting tension (T),and the contractile frequency (F) were simultaneouslyrecorded on recorders.RESULTS: Arsca dose dependently increased the meancontractile amplitude, the resting tension of proximal anddistal colonic smooth muscle strips in rats ( P < 0.05). Italso partly increased the contractile frequency of colonicsmooth muscle strips in rats ( P < 0.05). The effects werepartly inhibited by atropine (the resting tension of LMPCdecreased from 0. 44 ± 0. 12 to 0. 17 ± 0.03; the restingtension of LMDC decreased from 0.71 ± 0.14 to 0.03 ± 0.01;the mean contractile amplitude of LMPC increased from -45.8 ± 7.2 to -30.5 ± 2.9; the motility index of CMDC decreasedfrom 86.6± 17.3 to 32.8 ± 9.3; P< 0.05 vs areca), but theeffects were not inhibited by hexamethonium (P> 0.05).CONCLUSION: Areca stimulated the motility of isolatedcolonic smooth muscle strips in rats. | 18 | Paclitaxel induces apoptosis in human gastric carcinoma cells显示文摘AIM: To investigate the apoptosis in gastric cancer cells induced by paclitaxel, and the relation between this apoptosis and expression of Bcl-2 and Bax.METHODS: In in vitro experiments, MTT assay was used to determine the cell growth inhibitory rate. Transmission electron microscope and TUNEL staining method were used to quantitatively and qualitively detect the apoptosis status of gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901 before and after the paditaxel treatment. Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of apoptosis-regulated gene Bcl-2and Bax.RESULTS: Paclitaxel inhibited the growth of gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901 in a dose-and time-dependent manner.Paclitaxel induced SGC-7901 cells to undergo apoptosis with typically apoptotic characteristics, including morphological changes of chromatin condensation, chromatin crescent formation, nucleus fragmentation and apoptotic body formation. Paclitaxel could reduce the expression of apoptosis-regulated gene Bcl-2, and improve the expression of apoptosis-regulated gene Bax.CONCLUSION: Paclitaxel is able to induce the apoptosis in gastric cancer.
