Research advances on the multiple uses of Moringa oleifera: a sustainable alternative for socially neglected population显示文摘Moringa oleifera Lam(Moringaceae) is a plant with high nutritional and medicinal value. Native to India, it is now widely distributed throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Its different parts are sources of proteins, vitamins and minerals and present different pharmacological and biotechnological potential. Moreover, M. oleifera seeds are widely used in water and effluent treatment, for their coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation properties, their ability of improving water quality, by reducing organic matter and microbial load, with special applicability in intensive animal production systems, such as aquaculture. In addition, due to its high nutritional value and several medicinal properties, this tree may act as a nutritional and medical alternative for socially neglected populations. In this context, this review gathers information on M. oleifera, emphasizing its chemical constituents, nutritional, pharmacological and antimicrobial properties, applications in the treatment of water effluents, and ecological and social aspects.Raimunda Samia Nogueira Brilhante Jamille Alencar Sales Vandbergue Santos Pereira Débora de Souza Collares Maia Castelo-Branco Rossana de Aguiar Cordeiro Célia Maria de Souza Sampaio Manoel de Araújo Neto Paiva Joao Bosco Feitosa dos Santos JoséJúlio CostaSidrim Marcos Fábio Gadelha Rocha 2017Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2017,10,7:10
Growth mechanism of octahedron-like BaMoO_4 microcrystals processed in microwave-hydrothermal:Experimental observations and computational modeling显示文摘Octahedron-like BaMoO4 microcrystals were synthesized by the co-precipitation method at room temperature and processed in microwave-hydrothermal at 413 K for different times (from 30 min to 5 h). These microcrystals were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD),field-emission gun scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). XRD patterns showed that this material presents a tetragonal structure without the presence of deleterious phases. FEG-SEM and TEM micrographs revealed that the BaMoO4 microcrystals present an octahedron-like morphology with agglomerate nature and poly-disperse particle size distribution. These micrographs also indicated that the microcrystals grow along the [0 0 1] direction. The observed crystallographic planes in these structures were modeled computationally and a crystal growth model was proposed in order to explain the morphological changes as a function of processing time.Laécio Santos Cavalcante Júlio César Sczancoski Rircado Luis Tranquilin José Arana Varela Elson Longo Marcelo Ornaghi Orlandi 2009Particuology2009,7,5:9
Acute effects of physical exercise in type 2 diabetes: A review显示文摘The literature has shown the efficiency of exercise in the control of type 2 diabetes(T2D), being suggested as one of the best kinds of non-pharmacological treatments for its population. Thus, the scientific production related to this phenomenon has growing exponentially. However, despite its advances, still there is a lack of studies that have carried out a review on the acute effects of physical exercise on metabolic and hemodynamic markers and possible control mechanisms of these indicators in individuals with T2 D, not to mention that in a related way, these themes have been very little studied today. Therefore, the aim of this study was to organize and analyze the current scientific production about the acute effects of physical exercise on metabolic and hemodynamic markers and possible control mechanisms of these indicators in T2 D individuals. For such, a research with the following keywords was performed:-exercise; diabetes and post-exercise hypotension; diabetes and excess post-exercise oxygen consumption; diabetes and acute effects in PUBMED, SCIELO and HIGHWIRE databases. From the analyzed studies, it is possible to conclude that, a single exercise session can promote an increase in the bioavailability of nitric oxide and elicit decreases in postexercise blood pressure. Furthermore, the metabolic stress from physical exercise can increase the oxidation of carbohydrate during the exercise and keep it, in high levels, the post exercise consumption of O2, this phenomenon increases the rate of fat oxidation during recovery periods after exercise, improves glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity and reduces glycemia between 2-72 h, which seems to be dependent on the exercise intensity and duration of the effort.Ricardo Yukio Asano Marcelo Magalhes Sales Rodrigo Alberto Vieira Browne José Fernando Vila Nova Moraes Hélio José Coelho Júnior Milton Rocha Moraes Hebert Gustavo Simoes 2014World Journal of Diabetes2014,5,5:8
Embolization of splenorenal shunt associated to portal vein thrombosis and hepatic encephalopathy显示文摘Hepatic encephalopathy(HE)is a cognitive disturbance characterized by neuropsychiatric alterations. It occurs in acute and chronic hepatic disease and also in patients with portosystemic shunts. The presence of these portosystemic shunts allows the passage of nitrogenous substances from the intestines through systemic veins without liver depuration. Therefore, the embolization of these shunts has been performed tocontrol HE manifestations, but the presence of portal vein thrombosis is considered a contraindication. In this presentation we show a cirrhotic patient with severe HE and portal vein thrombosis who was submitted to embolization of a large portosystemic shunt.Case report:a 57 years-old cirrhotic patient who had been hospitalized many times for persistent HE and hepatic coma, even without precipitant factors. She had a wide portosystemic shunt and also portal vein thrombosis. The abdominal angiography confirmed the splenorenal shunt and showed other shunts. The larger shunt was embolized through placement of microcoils, and the patient had no recurrence of overt HE.There was a little increase of esophageal and gastric varices, but no endoscopic treatment was needed.Since portosystemic shunts are frequent causes of recurrent HE in cirrhotic patients, portal vein thrombosis should be considered a relative contraindication to perform a shunt embolization. However,in particular cases with many shunts and severe HE,we found that one of these shunts can be safely embolized and this procedure can be sufficient to obtain a good HE recovery. In conclusion,we reported a case of persistent HE due to a wide portosystemic shunt associated with portal vein thrombosis. As the patient had other shunts, she was successfully treated by embolization of the larger shunt.Letícia de Campos Franzoni Fábio Cardoso de Carvalho Rafael Gomes de Almeida Garzon Fábio da Silva Yamashiro Laís Augusti Lívia Alves Amaral Santos Mariana de Souza Dorna Júlio Pinheiro Baima Talles Bazeia Lima Carlos Antonio Caramori Giovanni Faria Silva Fernando Gomes Romeiro 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,42:6
Relationship between Th17 immune response and cancer显示文摘Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide and epidemiological projections predict growing cancer mortality rates in the next decades.Cancer has a close relationship with the immune system and, although Th17 cells are known to play roles in the immune response against microorganisms and in autoimmunity, studies have emphasized their roles in cancer pathogenesis. The Th17 immune response profile is involved in several types of cancer including urogenital, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and skin cancers. This type of immune response exerts pro and antitumor functions through several mechanisms, depending on the context of each tumor, including the protumor angiogenesis and exhaustion of T cells and the antitumor recruitment of T cells and neutrophils to the tumor microenvironment.Among other factors, the paradoxical behavior of Th17 cells in this setting has been attributed to its plasticity potential, which makes possible their conversion into other types of T cells such as Th17/Treg and Th17/Th1 cells.Interleukin(IL)-17 stands out among Th17-related cytokines since it modulates pathways and interacts with other cell profiles in the tumor microenvironment, which allow Th17 cells to prevail in tumors. Moreover, the IL-17 is able to mediate pro and antitumor processes that influence the development and progression of various cancers, being associated with variable clinical outcomes. The understanding of the relationship between the Th17 immune response and cancer as well as the singularities of carcinogenic processes in each type of tumor is crucial for the identification of new therapeutic targets.Hanna Santos Marques Breno Bittencourt de Brito Filipe Antônio França da Silva Maria Luísa Cordeiro Santos Júlio César Braga de Souza Thiago Macêdo Lopes Correia Luana Weber Lopes Nayara Silva de Macêdo Neres Rafael Santos Dantas Miranda Dórea Anna Carolina Saúde Dantas Lorena Lôbo Brito Morbeck Iasmin Souza Lima Amanda Alves de Almeida Maiara Raulina de Jesus Dias Fabrício Freire de Melo 2021World Journal of Clinical Oncology2021,12,10:5
Benefit of stem cells and skeletal myoblast cells in dilated cardiomyopathies显示文摘Although some authors suggest that there is mitotic division in the heart, most cardiomyocytes do not have the capacity to regenerate after myocardial infarction and when this occurs there is a deterioration of contractile function, and if the area of infarction is extensive ventricular remodeling may occur, leading to the development of heart failure.Cell transplantation into the myocardium with the goal of recovery of cardiac function has been extensively studied in recent years. The effects of cell therapy are based directly on the cell type used and the type of cardiac pathology. For myocardial ischemia in the hibernating myocardium, bone marrow cells have functional benefits, however these results in transmural fibrosis are not evident. In these cases there is a benefit of implantation with skeletal myoblasts, for treating the underlying cause of disease, the loss of cell contractility.Luiz César Guarita-Souza Júlio César Francisco Rossana Simeoni Jose Rocha Faria-Neto Katherine Athayde Teixeira de Carvalho 2011World Journal of Cardiology2011,3,3:4
Oral refeeding in mild acute pancreatitis:An old challenge显示文摘Although the idea that pancreas rest has long been considered as a very relevant topic in acute pancreatitis (AP)therapy, the right time and type of diet to be offered to patients recovering from an acute attack are a great challenge to clinicians who treat this condition.Fortunately, the last decade was noted for several trials looking for the best answer to the question:'when and how to start oral refeeding in AP?'It is well known that 80%of patients present with mild disease characterized by usually uncomplicated clinical course are managed with pancreatic rest through nil per oral;while the use of specific nutritional intervention is an exception. Therefore, mild AP has been the most investigated form of AP and researchers have tried different kind of meals to offer calories and reduce costs by shortening hospitalization time.Usually in mild AP,the oral refeeding is introduced between the first 3 d and 7 d after hospitalization but,the type of diet and patients’tolerance have been scrutinized in detail with mixed results.Although 20%to 25%have pain recurrence requiring nutritional support and greater time of hospitalization, most patients seem to tolerate oral refeeding well.We propose analyzing the most recent investigations of this matter and their conclusions to develop a better understanding of the management of AP.Júlio Maria F Chebli Pedro D Gaburri Liliana A Chebli 2011World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pathophysiology2011,2,6:2

How to manage inflammatory bowel disease during the COVID-19 pandemic:A guide for the practicing clinician显示文摘Managing inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has been a challenge faced by clinicians and their patients, especially concerning whether to proceed with biologics and immunosuppressive agents in the background of a global outbreak of a highly contagious new coronavirus(severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2,SARS-CoV-2).The knowledge about the impact of this virus on patients with IBD,although it is still scarce,is rapidly evolving. In particular, concerns surrounding medications’impact for IBD on the risk of acquiring SARS-CoV-2 infection or developing COVID-19,and potentially exacerbate viral replication and the COVID-19 course, are a current thinking of both practicing clinicians and providers caring for patients with IBD.Managing patients with IBD infected with SARS-CoV-2 depends on both the clinical activity of the IBD and the occasional development and severity of COVID-19.In this review,we summarize the current data regarding gastrointestinal involvement by SARS-CoV-2 and pharmacologic and surgical management for IBD concerning this infection, and the COVID-19 impact on both the patient's psychological functioning and endoscopy services, and we concisely summarize the telemedicine roles during the COVID-19 pandemic.Júlio Maria Fonseca Chebli Natália Sousa Freitas Queiroz Adérson Omar Mourão Cintra Damião Liliana Andrade Chebli Márcia Henriques de Magalhães Costa Rogério Serafim Parra 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,11:2
Gut-microbiome-brain axis:the crosstalk between the vagus nerve,alpha-synuclein and the brain in Parkinson's disease显示文摘This critical review of the literature shows that there is a close link between the microbiome, the gut,and the brain in Parkinson's disease. The vagus nerve, the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system,is involved in the regulation of immune response, digestion, heart rate, and control of mood.It can detect microbiota metabolites through its afferents, transferring this gut information to the central nervous system.Preclinical and clinical studies have shown the important role played by the gut microbiome and gut-related factors in disease development and progression,as well as treatment responses. These findings suggest that the gut microbiome may be a valuable target for new therapeutic strategies for Parkinson's disease.More studies are needed to better understand the underlying biology and how this axis can be modulated for the patient's benefit.Júlio César Claudino dos Santos Leandro Freitas Oliveira Felipe Micelli Noleto Camilla Teixeira Pinheiro Gusmão Gerly Anne de Castro Brito Glauce Socorro de Barros Viana 2023Neural Regeneration Research2023,18,12:2
