| 1 | Massive individual orbital angular momentum channels for multiplexing enabled by Dammann gratings显示文摘Data transmission rates in optical communication systems are approaching the limits of conventional multiplexing methods.Orbital angular momentum(OAM)in optical vortex beams offers a new degree of freedom and the potential to increase the capacity of free-space optical communication systems,with OAM beams acting as information carriers for OAM division multiplexing(OAM-DM).We demonstrate independent collinear OAM channel generation,transmission and simultaneous detection using Dammann optical vortex gratings(DOVGs).We achieve 80/160 Tbit s^(-1) capacity with uniform power distributions along all channels,with 1600 individually modulated quadrature phase-shift keying(QPSK)/16-QAM data channels multiplexed by 10 OAM states,80 wavelengths and two polarizations.DOVG-enabled OAM multiplexing technology removes the bottleneck of massive OAM state parallel detection and offers an opportunity to raise optical communication systems capacity to Pbit s^(-1) level. | Ting Lei Meng Zhang Yuru Li Ping Jia Gordon Ning Liu Xiaogeng Xu Zhaohui Li Changjun Min Jiao Lin Changyuan Yu Hanben Niu Xiaocong Yuan | 2015 | Light(Science & Applications)2015,4,1: | 47 |

| 4 | Three-dimensional bio-printing显示文摘Three-dimensional(3D) printing technology has been widely used in various manufacturing operations including automotive, defence and space industries. 3D printing has the advantages of personalization, flexibility and high resolution, and is therefore becoming increasingly visible in the high-tech fields. Three-dimensional bio-printing technology also holds promise for future use in medical applications. At present 3D bio-printing is mainly used for simulating and reconstructing some hard tissues or for preparing drug-delivery systems in the medical area. The fabrication of 3D structures with living cells and bioactive moieties spatially distributed throughout will be realisable. Fabrication of complex tissues and organs is still at the exploratory stage. | 8 | The efficacy and safety of pramipexole ER versus IR in Chinese patients with Parkinson’s disease: a randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, parallel-group study显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the non-inferiority of pramipexole extended-release(ER)versus immediate-release(IR)in Chinese patients with Parkinson’s disease(PD)in a double-blind,randomized,parallel-group study.Methods:Subjects were Chinese patients with idiopathic PD with diagnosis≥2 years prior to trial,age≥30 years old at diagnosis,and Modified Hoehn and Yahr score 2-4 during‘on’-time.Subjects received treatment with pramipexole ER(n=234)or IR(n=239).Non-inferiority was based on the primary endpoint,the change from baseline to end of maintenance(week 18)in the UPDRS(Parts II+III)total score.Results:For the primary endpoint,the adjusted mean changes(standard error)of UPDRS Parts II+III at week 18 were−13.81(0.655)and−13.05(0.643)for ER and IR formulations,respectively,using ANCOVA adjusted for treatment and centre(fixed effect)and baseline(covariate).The adjusted mean between group difference was 0.8 for the 2-sided 95%CI(−1.047,2.566).Since the lower limit of the 2-sided 95%CI(−1.047)for treatment difference was higher than the non-inferiority margin of−4,non-inferiority between pramipexole ER and IR was demonstrated.The incidence of adverse events(AEs)was 68.8%in the ER arm and 73.6%in the IR arm with few severe AEs(ER:2.1%;IR:3.8%).Conclusion:Based on the UPDRS II+III score,pramipexole ER was non-inferior to pramipexole IR.The safety profiles of pramipexole ER and IR were similar.These results were based on comparable mean daily doses and durations of treatment for both formulations. | Ying Wang Shenggang Sun Suiqiang Zhu Chunfeng Liu Yiming Liu Qing Di Huifang Shang Yan Ren Changhong Lu Mark Forrest Gordon Nolwenn Juhel Shengdi Chen for the Pramipexole ER Study Team | 2014 | Translational Neurodegeneration2014,3,1: | 3 |

| 13 | In vivo evaluation of additively manufacturedmulti-layered scaffold for the repair of large osteochondral defects显示文摘The repair of osteochondral defects is one of the major clinical challenges in orthopaedics.Well-established osteochondral tissue engineering methods have shown promising results for the early treatment of small defects.However,less success has been achieved for the regeneration of large defects,which is mainly due to the mechanical environment of the joint and the heterogeneous nature of the tissue.In this study,we developed a multi-layered osteochondral scaffold to match the heterogeneous nature of osteochondral tissue by harnessing additive manufacturing technologies and combining the established art laser sintering and material extrusion techniques.The developed scaffold is based on a titanium and polylactic acid matrix-reinforced collagen“sandwich”composite system.The microstructure and mechanical properties of the scaffold were examined,and its safety and efficacy in the repair of large osteochondral defects were tested in an ovine condyle model.The 12-week in vivo evaluation period revealed extensive and significantly higher bone in-growth in the multi-layered scaffold compared with the collagen–HAp scaffold,and the achieved stable mechanical fixation provided strong support to the healing of the overlying cartilage,as demonstrated by hyaline-like cartilage formation.The histological examination showed that the regenerated cartilage in the multi-layer scaffold group was superior to that formed in the control group.Chondrogenic genes such as aggrecan and collagen-II were upregulated in the scaffold and were higher than those in the control group.The findings showed the safety and efficacy of the cell-free“translation-ready”osteochondral scaffold,which has the potential to be used in a one-step surgical procedure for the treatment of large osteochondral defects. | Maryam Tamaddon Gordon Blunn Rongwei Tan Pan Yang Xiaodan Sun Shen-Mao Chen Jiajun Luo Ziyu Liu Ling Wang Dichen Li Ricardo Donate Mario Monzón Chaozong Liu | 2022 | Bio-Design and Manufacturing2022,5,3: | 2 |

| 15 | Transient thermal analysis as measurement method for IC package structural integrity显示文摘Practices of IC package reliability testing are reviewed briefly,and the application of transient thermal analysis is examined in great depth.For the design of light sources based on light emitting diode(LED) efficient and accurate reliability testing is required to realize the potential lifetimes of 105 h.Transient thermal analysis is a standard method to determine the transient thermal impedance of semiconductor devices,e.g.power electronics and LEDs.The temperature of the semiconductor junctions is assessed by time-resolved measurement of their forward voltage(Vf).The thermal path in the IC package is resolved by the transient technique in the time domain.This enables analyzing the structural integrity of the semiconductor package.However,to evaluate thermal resistance,one must also measure the dissipated energy of the device(i.e.,the thermal load) and the k-factor.This is time consuming,and measurement errors reduce the accuracy.To overcome these limitations,an innovative approach,the relative thermal resistance method,was developed to reduce the measurement effort,increase accuracy and enable automatic data evaluation.This new way of evaluating data simplifies the thermal transient analysis by eliminating measurement of the k-factor and thermal load,i.e.measurement of the lumen flux for LEDs,by normalizing the transient Vfdata.This is especially advantageous for reliability testing where changes in the thermal path,like cracks and delaminations,can be determined without measuring the k-factor and thermal load.Different failure modes can be separated in the time domain.The sensitivity of the method is demonstrated by its application to highpower white In GaN LEDs.For detailed analysis and identification of the failure mode of the LED packages,the transient signals are simulated by time-resolved finite element(FE) simulations.Using the new approach,the transient thermal analysis is enhanced to a powerful tool for reliability investigation of semiconductor packages in accelerated lifetime tests and for inline inspection.This enables automatic data analysis of the transient thermal data required for processing a large amount of data in production and reliability testing.Based on the method,the integrity of LED packages can be tested by inline,outgoing inspection and the lifetime prediction of the products is improved. | Alexander Han Maximilian Schmid E Liu Gordon Elger | 2015 | Chinese Physics B2015,24,6: | 2 |
