| 2 | Memristor-based RRAM with applications显示文摘Recently acclaimed the fourth fundamental circuit element,the memristor was theoretically pre-dicted by Leon Chua in 1971,although its single device electronic implementation eluded the attention of inte-grated circuit designers for the past three decades and was first reported in 2008 by the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Laboratory researchers while developing crossbar-based ultra high-density nonvolatile memories.Memristor-based hybrid nanoscale CMOS technology is expected not only to impact the flash memory industries pro-foundly,but also to revolutionize digital and neuromorphic computing.The memristor exhibits a dynamical resistance state that depends on its excitation history and which can be exploited to build transistor-less non-volatile semiconductor memory (NVSM),commonly known as resistive RAM (RRAM).This paper addresses an implementation scheme for memristor-based resistive random access memory (MRRAM),a nano-scale binary memory that is compatible with modern computer systems.Its structure is similar to that of static random ac-cess memory (SRAM),but with the memristor replacing the underlying RS flip-flop.By improving the MRRAM,we propose a multilevel memory with greater data density,which stores multiple bit information in gray-scale form in a memory unit.Reported computer simulations and numerical analyses verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in storing ASCII characters and gray-scale images in binary format. | DUAN ShuKai HU XiaoFang WANG LiDan LI ChuanDong MAZUMDER Pinaki | 2012 | Science China(Information Sciences)2012,55,6: | 9 |
| 3 | Structure-based Comparative Analysis and Prediction of N-linked Glycosylation Sites in Evolutionarily Distant Eukaryotes显示文摘The asparagine-X-serine/threonine (NXS/T) motif, where X is any amino acid except proline, is the consensus motif for N-linked glycosylation. Significant numbers of high-resolution crystal structures of glycosylated proteins allow us to carry out structural analysis of the N-linked glycosylation sites (NGS). Our analysis shows that there is enough structural information from diverse glycoproteins to allow the development of rules which can be used to predict NGS. A Python-based tool was developed to investigate asparagines implicated in N-glycosylation in five species: Homo sapiens, Mus musculus, Drosophila melanogaster, Arabidopsis thaliana and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Our analysis shows that 78% of all asparagines of NXS/T motif involved in N-glycosylation are localized in the loop/turn conformation in the human proteome. Similar distribution was revealed for all the other species examined. Comparative analysis of the occurrence of NXS/T motifs not known to be glycosylated and their reverse sequence (S/TXN) shows a similar distribution across the secondary structural elements, indicating that the NXS/T motif in itself is not biologically relevant. Based on our analysis, we have defined rules to determine NGS. Using machine learning methods based on these rules we can predict with 93% accuracy if a particular site will be glycosylated. If structural information is not available the tool uses structural prediction results resulting in 74% accuracy. The tool was used to identify glycosylation sites in 108 human proteins with structures and 2247 proteins without structures that have acquired NXS/T site/s due to non-synonymous variation. | 7 | Antitumor activity and antioxident role of Bauhinia racemosa against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma in Swiss albino mice显示文摘AIM: To study the antitumor effect and antioxidant role of Bauhinia racemosa. METHODS: Antitumor activity and antioxidant status of methanol extract (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) of Bauhinia racemosa stem bark was evaluated against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) tumor in mice. Acute and short-term toxicity studies were performed initially in order to ascertain the safety of methanol extract of Bauhinia racemosa (MEBR). After 24 h of tumor inoculation, the extract was administered daily for 14 d. After administration of the last dose followed by 18 h fasting, mice were then sacrificed for observation of antitumor activity. The effect of MEBR on the growth of transplantable murine tumor, life span of EAC bearing hosts and simultaneous alterations in the hematological profile and liver biochemical parameters (lipid peroxidation, antioxidant enzymes) were estimated. RESULTS: The MEBR showed decrease in tumor volume, packed cell volume and viable cell count, and increased the nonviable cell count and mean survival time thereby increasing life span of EAC tumor bearing mice. Hematological profile reverted to more or less normal levels in extract treated mice. Treatment with MEBR decreased the levels of lipid peroxidation and increased the levels of glutathione, superoxide dismutase and catalase. | 8 | Evaluation of wound healing and antimicrobial potentials of Ixora coccinea root extract显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the wound healing and antimicrobial activity of root extracts of Ixora coccinea(I.coccinea).Methods:To investigate the wound healing efficacy of root extract of I.coccinea Linn,five groups of animals were divided each containing six animals.Two wound models including incision and excision wound models were used in this study.The parameters studied were tensile strength on incision wound model and in terms of wound contraction for excision wound model were compared with standard Nitrofurazone(NFZ) ointment(0.2%w/w). Six extracts(ethanol.aqueous,petroleum ether,benzene,chloroform and ethyl acetate ) of I. coccinea were screened for in vitro growth inhibiting activity against different bacterial strains riz. Staphylococcia aureus.Bacillus pumilius,Enterococcus facialis.Escherichia coli,Salmonella typhi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fungi Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger were compared with the standard drugs ciprofloxacin and chloramphenicol for antibacterial and griscofulvin for antifungal screening.The serial dilution and cup(or) well plate methods were used for the antimicrobial study and MIC was determined.Results:The ethanolic extract showed significant (P<0.001) wound healing activity when compared to standard drug NFZ with respect to normal control group.Amongst all.ethanolic extract showed highly significant antibacterial activity against all bacterial strains used in this study when compared to standard.The aqueous extract showed moderate significant inhibition against all bacterial strains when compared to standard. All the extracts were shown negligible activity against the fungal strains used in this study. | 9 | The response of stromatolites to seismic shocks: Tomboliths from the Palaeoproterozoic Chaibasa Formation, E India显示文摘It is demonstrated here for the first time how Palaeoproterozoic stromatolites survived seismic disturbance of their substrate.The stromatolites under study could have been cyanobacteria or any other photoautotrophic microbes,which formed mats that covered a substrate of very fine-grained sandstones and mudstones of the Chaibasa Fm.in eastern India.The sediments represent a shelf environment.The local abundance of the stromatolites suggests that the low-energy environment formed a suitable habitat.The common phases of tectonic quiescence were,however,occasionally interrupted by seismic shocks.These were sufficiently strong to deform the mat layers,the lower parts of which might already have been(semi-) consolidated.The mats became partly folded,partly faulted,and already consolidated parts of the stromatolite layers broke off.This can be deduced from the angular shapes of part of the broken-off fragments.It appears,however,that part of these fragments were still sufficiently soft to become rounded and deformed by rolling over the seafloor,probably under the influence of tidal currents.When come to rest,these fragments served as a new substrate for new generations of the microorganisms.These micro-organisms thus survived by continued growth on the reworked fragments and built up new stromatolites that may show an 'angular disconformity' with the stromatolites of their substrate.It thus is shown that stromatolites have an adequate response to a sudden disturbance of their habitat,and that they survive earthquakes by colonization of broken-off fragments.We call the'healed'fragments' tomboliths'(tumbled stones). | A.J. | 10 | Characterization of recycled crumb rubber modified binders containing wax warm additives显示文摘This paper addresses the laboratory experiment of performance properties of recycled CRM binders containing artificially aged CRM binders with wax additives. The warm CRM binders were produced using two wax additives(LEADCAP and Sasobit) and then shortterm and long-term aged using the rolling thin film oven(RTFO) and pressure aging vessel(PAV) procedures. The recycled CRM binders were aged through the RTFO and PAV procedures. A set of Superpave binder tests were carried out on the binders through the rotational viscometer, the dynamic shear rheometer(DSR), and the bending beam rheometer(BBR). Skeels seeds:A diabetic rat model study显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the effect of methanolic extract of Syzygium cumini(L.) Skeels(S. cumini) seeds on the major organs in an animal model of diabetes through biochemical and histopathological studies.Methods: The methanolic extracts of S. cumini seeds(100 and 200 mg/kg body weight) were administered to alloxan-induced diabetic rats daily, with fasting blood glucose levels being measured by glucometry at one-day interval for a duration of two weeks. Biochemical assays to evaluate changes in the functions of the heart, liver,pancreas and kidney were carried out. Histopathological changes in the diabetic rat organs(pancreas, liver, heart, kidney and spleen) were also observed after the 14 days of treatment with the extracts.Results: Oral administration of methanolic extracts of S. cumini seeds(100 and 200 mg/kg body weight), with gliclazide as a positive control(25 mg/kg), showed beneficial effects including lowering blood glucose levels(P < 0.001), improved heart and liver functions, and hyperlipidemia due to diabetes. | 15 | Phytochemical screening and evaluation of cytotoxic and hypoglycemic properties of Mangifera indica peels显示文摘Objective: To investigate the presence of different phytoconstituents in Mangifera indica(M. indica) peel and evaluate its cytotoxicity to Artemia salina and hypoglycemic potential in Swiss albino mice.Methods: The methanolic extract of M. indica peel was used to determine the presence of phytoconstituents. Brine shrimp lethality bioassay method was followed to determine the cytotoxic potential of plant extract. In the case of hypoglycemic activity, oral administration of extract at 200 and 400 mg/kg and standard glibenclamide at 10 mg/kg was done, followed by determining the percentage of reduction of plasma glucose from the initial level.Results: The methanolic extract of M. indica peel showed the presence of flavonoid,saponin, steroid, tannins, terpenoids, glycosides and alkaloids. In brine shrimp lethality bioassay, the LC_(50) of the extract and standard vincristine sulfate was found to be 2.04 and0.41 mg/mL, respectively. After 90 and 150 min, the methanolic extract at 200 and 400 mg/kg showed prominent plasma glucose reduction of 13.95%, 22.48% and 14.16%,26.18% respectively compared to standard glibenclamide showing 14.90% and 20.67% plasma glucose reduction.Conclusions: This current research affirms prominent cytotoxic and moderate hypoglycemic potential of M. indica peel.
