| 1 | Treatment technologies for aqueous perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoate (PFOA)显示文摘Fluorochemicals(FCs)are oxidatively recalcitrant,environmentally persistent,and resistant to most conventional treatment technologies.FCs have unique physiochemical properties derived from fluorine which is the most electronegative element.Perfluorooctanesulfonate(PFOS),and perfluorooctanoate(PFOA)have been detected globally in the hydrosphere,atmosphere and biosphere.Reducing treatment technologies such as reverses osmosis,nano-filtration and activated carbon can remove FCs from water.However,incineration of the concentrated waste is required for complete FC destruction.Recently,a number of alternative technologies for FC decomposition have been reported.The FC degradation technologies span a wide range of chemical processes including direct photolysis,photocatalytic oxidation,photochemical oxidation,photochemical reduction,thermally-induced reduction,and sonochemical pyrolysis.This paper reviews these FC degradation technologies in terms of kinetics,mechanism,energetic cost,and applicability.The optimal PFOS/PFOA treatment method is strongly dependent upon the FC concentration,background organic and metal concentration,and available degradation time. | Chad D.VECITIS Hyunwoong PARK Jie CHENG Brian T.MADER Michael R.HOFFMANN | 2009 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2009,3,2: | 26 |
| 2 | Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging evaluation of lymph node metastasis in early colorectal cancer显示文摘AIM: To assess the role of computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and establish imaging criteria of lymph node metastasis in early colorectal cancer.METHODS: One hundred and sixty patients with early colorectal cancer were evaluated for tumor location, clinical history of polypectomy, depth of tumor invasion, and lymph node metastasis. Two radiologists assessed preoperative CT and/or MRI for the primary tumor site detectability, the presence or absence of regional lymph node, and the size of the largest lymph node. Demographic, imaging, and pathologic findings were compared between the two groups of patients based on pathologic lymph node metastasis and optimal size criterion was obtained.RESULTS: The locations of tumor were ascending, transverse, descending, sigmoid colon, and rectum. One hundred and sixty early colorectal cancers were classified into 3 groups based on the pathological depth of tumor invasion; mucosa, submucosa, and depth unavailable. A total of 20(12.5%) cancers with submucosal invasion showed lymph node metastasis. Lymph nodes were detected on CT or MRI in 53 patients. The detection rate and size of lymph nodes were significantly higher(P = 0.000, P = 0.044, respectively) in patients with pathologic nodal metastasis than in patients without nodal metastasis. | 3 | Arabidopsis CAMTA Transcription Factors Regulate Pipecolic Acid Biosynthesis and Priming of Immunity Genes显示文摘The Arabidopsis thaliana Calmodulin-binding Transcription Activator(CAMTA)transcription factors CAMTA1,CAMTA2,and CAMTA3(CAMTA123)serve as master regulators of salicylic acid(SA)-mediated immunity,repressing the biosynthesis of SA in healthy plants.Here,we show that CAMTA123 also repress the biosynthesis of pipecolic acid(Pip)in healthy plants.Loss of CAMTA123 function resulted in the induction of AGD2-like defense response protein 1(ALD1),which encodes an enzyme involved in Pip biosynthesis.Induction of ALD1 resulted in the accumulation of high levels of Pip,which brought about increased levels of the SA receptor protein NPR1 without induction of NPR1 expression or requirement for an increase in SA levels.Pip-mediated induction of ALD1 and genes regulating the biosynthesis of SA—CBP60g,SARD1,PAD4,and EDS1—was largely dependent on NPR1.Furthermore,Pip-mediated increase in NPR1 protein levels was associated with priming of Pip and SA biosynthesis genes to induction by low levels of SA.Taken together,our findings expand the role for CAMTA123 in regulating key immunity genes and suggest a working model whereby loss of CAMTA123 repression leads to the induction of plant defense genes and initiation of SAR. | Yongsig Kim Sarah J.Gilmour Lumen Chao Sunchung Park Michael F.Thomashow | 2020 | Molecular Plant2020,13,1: | 8 |

| 6 | Pancreatic hardness: Correlation of surgeon's palpation, durometer measurement and preoperative magnetic resonance imaging features显示文摘AIM To evaluate the correlation between subjective assessments of pancreatic hardness based on the palpation, objective measurements using a durometer, and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) findings for assessing pancreatic hardness.METHODS Eighty-three patients undergoing pancreatectomies were enrolled. An experienced surgeon subjectively evaluated the pancreatic hardness in the surgical field by palpation. The pancreatic hardness was also objectivelyevaluated using a durometer. Preoperative MRI findings were evaluated by a radiologist in terms of the apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC) values, the relative signal intensity decrease(RSID) of the pancreatic parenchyma, and the diameter of the pancreatic parenchyma and duct. Durometer measurement results, ADC values, RSID, pancreatic duct and parenchyma diameters, and the ratio of the diameters of the duct and parenchyma were compared between pancreases judged to be soft or hard pancreas on the palpation. A correlation analysis was also performed between the durometer and MRI measurements.RESULTS The palpation assessment classified 44 patients as having a soft pancreas and 39 patients as having a hard pancreas. ADC values were significantly lower in the hard pancreas group. The ductal diameter and duct-to-pancreas ratio were significantly higher in the hard pancreas group. For durometer measurements, a correlation analysis showed a positive correlation with the ductal diameter and the duct-to-pancreas ratio and a negative correlation with ADC values. CONCLUSION Hard pancreases showed lower ADC values, a wider pancreatic duct diameter and a higher duct-to-pancreas ratio than soft pancreases.
