| 3 | Oriented attachment(OA) mediated characteristic growth of Gd_2O_3 nanorods from nanoparticle seeds显示文摘Herein, we demonstrated the oriented attachment(OA) driven formation and characterization of Gd_2O_3 nanorods. The nanorods were synthesized via a surfactant free, inexpensive hydrothermal route and considering ~30 nm nanoparticles as the seed. While maintaining a cubic phase throughout the process, complete transformation of Gd_2O_3 nanoparticles to nanorods was found to occur at an elevated temperature(~180 oC) of the hydrothermal reaction. The elongated Gd_2O_3 nanostructures, as revealed from transmission electron microscopic imaging, possessed an average diameter of ~33 nm and an approximate length of 172 nm. From the kinetics of OA process, the activation energy of formation was estimated to be ~25 k J/mole. The existence of defect mediated radiative emission was ascertained from the asymmetric broadening of luminescence spectra. The defect emission arising from the Gd_2O_3 nanorods was nearly 1.4 times stronger than that of nanoparticles. | 4 | Carbon nanotubes:Evaluation of toxicity at biointerfaces显示文摘Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are a class of carbon allotropes with interesting properties that make them productive materials for usage in various disciplines of nanotechnology such as in electronics equipments, optics and therapeutics. They exhibit distinguished properties viz., strength, and high electrical and heat conductivity. Their uniqueness can be attributed due to the bonding pattern present between the atoms which are very strong and also exhibit high extreme aspect ratios. CNTs are classified as singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on the basis of number of sidewalls present and the way they are arranged spatially. Application of CNTs to improve the performance of many products, especially in healthcare, has led to an occupational and public exposure to these nanomaterials. Hence, it becomes a major concern to analyze the issues pertaining to the toxicity of CNTs and find the best suitable ways to counter those challenges. | 12 | Formulation and evaluation of herbal gel of Pothos scandens Linn显示文摘Objective:To formulate Pothos scandens Linn(P.scandens) leaf extract in to a gel and investigate their burn wound healing activity.Methods:Ethanolic extract of dried leaves of P. scandens were subjected to priliminery phytochemical evaluation and wound healing activities studies.Different gel formulations of ethanolic extract of P.scandens(4%w/v) were prepared using polymers carbopol 934 and carbopol 940 bv varying their concentration.These formulations were evaluated for physical parameters,drug content.pH,viscosity,extrudability.spreadability. primary skin irritation,pharmacological activity and stability.Results:Wound healing studies of ethanolic extract revealed that P.scandens treated animals were found to epithelise in 22 days while the solvent control and the untreated rats epithelise within 35 and 40 days respectively.
