1Heterogeneous molecular catalysts for electrocatalytic CO2 reduction显示文摘This review provides an overview of the literature regarding heterogeneous molecular catalysts for electrochemical CO2 reduction (ECR).Fundamental aspects of the science,including aggregation,electrochemical rate laws,and electrode-catalyst electronic coupling,are discussed to provide a solid foundation on which to design experiments and interpret results.Mechanistic aspects of ECR are presented based on electrokinetic and spectroscopic measurements as well as density functional theory (DFT) calculations.Consensus is improving for electrokinetic measurements,but the redox state of the metal center under reaction conditions and DFT reaction pathways lack agreement in the literature.Concerning the tunable aspects of the molecular catalyst,the impacts of the metal center,ligand substituents,and electrode support on the activity and selectivity toward ECR are presented with an emphasis on those studies that controlled for aggregation and minimized mass-transport limitations.Extended three-dimensional (3D) structures such as polymers,metal-organic frameworks (MOFs),and covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) are discussed as highly tunable architectures that begin to mimic the catalytic pockets of enzyme active sites.To achieve the full potential of these catalysts,design principles must emerge based on a combination of deconvoluting measurements to extract intrinsic catalyst properties and more reliable theoretical calculations to predict reaction pathways.Nathan Corbin Joy Zeng Kindle Williams Karthish Manthiram 2019Nano Research2019,12,9:10
2高压直流换流站穿墙套管的局部放电在线测量(英文)显示文摘An online partial discharge(PD) measurement performed on a high voltage direct current(HVDC) wall bushing successfully identified the presence of internal discharges.The wall bushing is a sulfur hexafluoride gas-insulated bushing,rated for 500 kV dc and terminated on a thyristor-controlled HVDC converter bridge.The measurement of PD within the HVDC station environment is particularly challenging due to the high levels of electromagnetic noise caused by thyristor switching events and external air-corona from the neighboring high-voltage equipment.An additional challenge is the''mixed'voltage stress on the bushing insulation,which has both ac and dc high-voltage components.There are also fast transients during the firing of thyristors in the HVDC conversion process that cause added stress to the insulation.As a result,the analysis and interpretation of PD data for HVDC equipment is more complex;PD pulses may occur in response to the ac,dc,or switching transient voltage stresses.In this paper,an online PD measurement strategy for noise filtering and isolation of PD sources within the bushing are discussed.The PD measurement data is plotted on a phase-resolved diagram where the line supply power cord voltage was used as a reference. The phase-resolved diagram appears to suggest that the fast transients,caused during switching,trigger some PD events.Measurements were also performed with the aid of a modern PD measurement instrument having noise separation capabilities.The findings from the online PD measurements are verified with physical evidence,found after the bushing was removed from service,suggested internal PD had occurred inside the bushing.Nathan D.Jacob William M.McDermid Behzad Kordi 2011高电压技术2011,37,11:8
3Exposure to blast shock waves via the ear canal induces deficits in vestibular afferent function in rats显示文摘The ears are air-filled structures that are directly impacted during blast exposure.In addition to hearing loss and tinnitus,blast victims often complain of vertigo,dizziness and unsteady posture,suggesting that blast exposure induces damage to the vestibular end organs in the inner ear.However,the underlying mechanisms remain to be elucidated.In this report,single vestibular afferent activity and the vestibuloocular reflex(VOR)were investigated before and after exposure to blast shock waves(~20 PSI)delivered into the left external ear canals of anesthetized rats.Single vestibular afferent activity was recorded from the superior branch of the left vestibular nerves of the blast-treated and control rats one day after blast exposure.Blast exposure reduced the spontaneous discharge rates of the otolith and canal afferents.Blast exposure also reduced the sensitivity of irregular canal afferents to sinusoidal head rotation at 0.5e2Hz.Blast exposure,however,resulted in few changes in the VOR responses to sinusoidal head rotation and translation.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first study that reports blast exposure-induced damage to vestibular afferents in an animal model.These results provide insights that may be helpful in developing biomarkers for early diagnosis of blast-induced vestibular deficits in military and civilian populations.Yue Yu Jun Huang Xuehui Tang Jerome Allison David Sandlin Dalian Ding Yi Pang Chunming Zhang Tianwen Chen Nathan Yin Lan Chen William Mustain Wu Zhou Hong Zhu 2020Journal of Otology2020,15,3:3
4Do medical students studying in the United Kingdom have an adequate factual knowledge of basic life support?显示文摘BACKGROUND: Healthcare professionals have a duty to maintain basic life support(BLS) skills. This study aims to evaluate medical students' factual knowledge of BLS and the training they receive.METHODS: A cross-sectional, closed-response questionnaire was distributed to the fi rst-and fourth-year students studying at institutions in the United Kingdom. The paper questionnaire sought to quantify respondent's previous BLS training, factual knowledge of the BLS algorithm using five multiple choice questions(MCQs), and valuate their desire for further BLS training. Students received 1 point for each correctly identifi ed answer to the 5 MCQ's.RESULTS: A total of 3,732 complete responses were received from 21 medical schools. Eighty percent(n=2,999) of students completed a BLS course as part of their undergraduate medical studies. There was a signifi cant difference(P<0.001) in the percentage of the fourth-year students selecting the correct answer in all the MCQ's compared to the fi rst-year students except in identifyingthe correct depth of compressions required during CPR(P=0.095). Overall 10.3%(95% CI 9.9% to 10.7%) of respondents correctly identified the answer to 5 MCQ's on BLS: 9% of the first-year students(n=194) and 12% of the fourth-year students(n=190). On an institutional level the proportion of students answering all MCQ's correctly ranged from 2% to 54% at different universities. Eighty-one percent of students(n=3,031) wished for more BLS training in their curriculum.CONCLUSION: Factual knowledge of BLS is poor among medical students in the UK. 5Appendectomy and Clostridium difficile colitis:Relationships revealed by clinical observations and immunology显示文摘Advances in understanding the interaction between the human immune system and the microbiome have led to an improved understanding of the function of the vermiform appendix as a safe-house for beneficial bacteria in the colon.These advances have been made despite long standing clinical observations that the appendectomy is a safe and effective procedure.However,more recent clinical data show that an appendectomy puts patients at increased risk for recurrent Clostridium difficile(C.difficile)-associated colitis,and probably other diseases associated with an altered microbiome.At the same time,appendectomy does not apparently put patients at risk for an initial onset of C.difficile-associated colitis.These clinical observations point toward the idea that the vermiform appendix might not effectively protect the microbiome in the face of broad spectrum antibiotics,the use of which precedes the initial onset of C.difficile-associated colitis.Further,these observations point to the idea that historically important threats to the microbiome such as infectious gastrointestinal pathogens have been supplanted by other threats,particularly the use of broad spectrum antibiotics.Nathan L Sanders R Randal Bollinger Ryan Lee Steven Thomas William Parker 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,34:2

15Molten Salts and Applications Ⅰ: Molten Salt History, Types, Thermodynamic and Physical Properties, and Cost显示文摘Excess energy from solar, nuclear or coal power stations can be stored in molten salts (MS) in the 565 °C range. At elevated temperature, large containers can be used to store energy for up to a week and generate eight hours or more, depending on the container size, of electricity to be used at night or during peak demand hours. A stable diurnal energy supply is made available by energy storage and the fluctuation experienced at thermal solar power stations caused by weather conditions is reduced. Supported by Office of Naval Research (ONR), this paper presents a survey of molten salt properties used in solar power storage, as well as the history of molten salt usage for energy storage and production. The history of molten salt usage includes past, current, and future developments involving molten salt usage for nuclear and solar energy storage and production. Density, melting temperature, viscosity, electric conductivity, surface tension, and heat capacity of various molten salts are discussed. Since costs are important factor in selecting a molten salt compound, salts costs are presented.
