1Clinical correlates of common corneal neovascular diseases: a literature review显示文摘A large subset of corneal pathologies involves the formation of new vessels(neovascularization), leading to compromised visual acuity. This article aims to review the clinical causes and presentations of corneal neovascularization(CNV) by examining the mechanisms behind common CNV-related corneal pathologies, with a particular focus on herpes simplex stromal keratitis,contact lenses-induced keratitis and CNV secondary to keratoplasty. 2Fast Texture Segmentation Based on Semi-Local Region Descriptor and Active Contour显示文摘In this paper,we present an efficient approach for unsupervised segmentation of natural and textural images based on the extraction of image features and a fast active contour segmentation model.We address the problem of textures where neither the gray-level information nor the boundary information is adequate for object extraction.This is often the case of natural images composed of both homogeneous and textured regions.Because these images cannot be in general directly processed by the gray-level information,we propose a new texture descriptor which intrinsically defines the geometry of textures using semi-local image information and tools from differential geometry.Then,we use the popular Kullback-Leibler distance to design an active contour model which distinguishes the background and textures of interest.The existence of a minimizing solution to the proposed segmentation model is proven.Finally, a texture segmentation algorithm based on the Split-Bregman method is introduced to extract meaningful objects in a fast way.Promising synthetic and real-world results for gray-scale and color images are presented.Nawal Houhou Jean-Philippe Thiran Xavier Bresson 2009Numerical Mathematics(Theory,Methods and Applications)2009,2,4:10

4Molecular underpinnings of corneal angiogenesis:advances over the past decade显示文摘The cornea is maintained in an avascular state by maintaining an environment whereby anti-angiogenic factors take the upper hand over factors promoting angiogenesis. Many of the common pathologies affecting the cornea involve the disruption of such equilibrium and the shift towards new vessel formation, leading to corneal opacity and eventually-vision loss. Therefore it is of paramount importance that the molecular underpinnings of corneal neovascularization(CNV) be clearly understood, in order to develop better targeted treatments. This article is a review of the literature on the recent discoveries regarding pro-angiogenic factors of the cornea(such as vascular endothelial growth factors,fibroblast growth factor and matrix metalloproteinases)and anti-angiogenic factors of the cornea(such as endostatins and neostatins). 5Cyclin A2:At the crossroads of cell cycle and cell invasion显示文摘Cyclin A2 is an essential regulator of the cell division cycle through the activation of kinases that participate to the regulation of S phase as well as the mitotic entry. However,whereas its degradation by the proteasome in mid mitosis was thought to be essential for mitosis to proceed,recent observations show that a small fraction of cyclin A2 persists beyond metaphase and is degraded by autophagy. Its implication in the control of cytoskeletal dynamics and cell movement has unveiled its role in the modulation of Rho A activity. Since this GTPase is involved in both cell rounding early in mitosis and later,in the formation of the cleavage furrow,this suggests that cyclin A2 is a novel actor in cytokinesis. 7A chromosome-scale genome assembly of a diploid alfalfa,the progenitor of autotetraploid alfalfa显示文摘Alfalfa(Medicago sativa L.)is one of the most important and widely cultivated forage crops.It is commonly used as a vegetable and medicinal herb because of its excellent nutritional quality and significant economic value.Based on Illumina,Nanopore and Hi-C data,we assembled a chromosome-scale assembly of Medicago sativa spp.caerulea(voucher PI464715),the direct diploid progenitor of autotetraploid alfalfa.The assembled genome comprises 793.2 Mb of genomic sequence and 47,202 annotated protein-coding genes.The contig N50 length is 3.86 Mb.This genome is almost twofold larger and contains more annotated protein-coding genes than that of its close relative,Medicago truncatula(420 Mb and 44,623 genes).The more expanded gene families compared with those in M.truncatula and the expansion of repetitive elements rather than whole-genome duplication(i.e.,the two species share the ancestral Papilionoideae whole-genome duplication event)may have contributed to the large genome size of M.sativa spp.caerulea.Comparative and evolutionary analyses revealed that M.sativa spp.caerulea diverged from M.truncatula~5.2 million years ago,and the chromosomal fissions and fusions detected between the two genomes occurred during the divergence of the two species.In addition,we identified 489 resistance(R)genes and 82 and 85 candidate genes involved in the lignin and cellulose biosynthesis pathways,respectively.The near-complete and accurate diploid alfalfa reference genome obtained herein serves as an important complement to the recently assembled autotetraploid alfalfa genome and will provide valuable genomic resources for investigating the genomic architecture of autotetraploid alfalfa as well as for improving breeding strategies in alfalfa.Ao Li Ai Liu Xin Du Jin-Yuan Chen Mou Yin Hong-Yin Hu Nawal Shrestha Sheng-Dan Wu Hai-Qing Wang Quan-Wen Dou Zhi-Peng Liu Jian-Quan Liu Yong-Zhi Yang Guang-Peng Ren 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:3
8Chemical analysis and antioxidant content of various propolis samples collected from different regions and their impact on antimicrobial activities显示文摘Objective: To assess the antioxidant content, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of various propolis samples. Methods: Seven propolis samples were collected from different locations in Morocco, which are characterized by different plant predominant vegetations. The resin, wax and balsam of hydroalcoholic extract of propolis content were identified, and the antioxidant content was analyzed with the use of HPLC and colorimetric methods. The antioxidant activity was assessed by DPPH, ABTS.^+ and ferric reducing power assays. The antimicrobial activity was assessed against bacterial species, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans, and expressed as the minimal inhibitory concentration. Results: The propolis samples showed significant variations in the chemical composition and in the antioxidant or antimicrobial activities even when the samples were collected from the same location. Propolis with high resin and low wax content had high level of antioxidant compounds, and strong antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. Gram-positive bacteria, especially, methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus were more sensitive to all propolis samples than Gram-negative bacteria and Candida albicans. Conclusions: The chemical composition and the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of various propolis samples are different and rely on the geographic and plant origin of propolis collection.
