| 1 | Electronic structure of the SrAl_2O_4:Eu^(2+) persistent luminescence material显示文摘The electronic structure of the strontium aluminate (SrAl2O4:Eu2+) materials was studied with a combined experimental and theoretical approach. The UV-VUV synchrotron radiation was applied in the experimental study while the electronic structure of the non-optimized and optimized crystal structure were investigated theoretically by using the density functional theory. The structure of the va- lence and conduction bands as well as the band gap energy of the material together with the position of the Eu2+ 4f7 8S7/2 ground state were calculated. The calculated band gap energy (6.4 eV) agreed well with the experimental value of 6.6 eV. The valence band consisted mainly of oxygen states whereas the bottom of the conduction band of strontium states. In agreement with the experimental results, the calculated 4f7 8S7/2 ground state of Eu2+ lies in the energy gap of the host. The position of the 4f7 ground state depended on the Coulomb repulsion strength. | 2 | Comparing the removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soil after different bioremediation approaches in relation to the extracellular enzyme activities显示文摘A 120-day experiment was conducted to compare the removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) from agricultural soil after natural attenuation(NA), phytoremediation(P), mycoremediation(M), and plant-assisted mycoremediation(PAM) approaches in relation to the extracellular enzyme activities in soil. The NA treatment removed the total soil PAH content negligibly. The P treatment using maize(Zea mays) enhanced only the removal of low and medium molecular PAHs. The Pleurotus ostreatus cultivated on 30–50 mm wood chip substrate used in M treatment was the most successful in the removal of majority PAHs. Therefore,significantly(p < 0.05) highest total PAH removal by 541.4 μg/kg dw(dry weight)(36%) from all tested M treatments was observed. When using the same fungal substrate together with maize in PAM treatment, the total PAH removal was not statistically different from the previous M treatment. However, the maize-assisted mycoremediation treatment significantly boosted fungal biomass, microbial and manganese peroxidase activity in soil which strongly correlated with the removal of total PAHs. The higher PAH removal in that PAM treatment could be reflected in the following post-harvest time. | 3 | Synchrotron radiation investigations of the Sr_2MgSi_2O_7:Eu^(2+),R^(3+) persistent luminescence materials显示文摘The electronic and defect energy level structure of polycrystalline Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+,R3+ persistent luminescence materials were studied with thermoluminescence and different synchrotron radiation spectroscopies (UV-VUV emission and excitation, X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS)). Special attention was paid on the effect of the R3+ co-dopants on the persistent luminescence properties of the materials. Theoretical calculations using the density functional theory (DFT) were carried out simultaneously with the experimental work. The experimental band gap energy (Eg) value of ca. 7.1 eV agreed very well with the DFT value of 6.7 eV. The variation of the Eg value was attempted to relate with the trap structure as well as with the different properties of the R3+ co-dopants. The trap level energy distribution depended strongly on the R3+ co-dopant except for the shallowest trap energy above the room temperature remaining practically the same, however. | 5 | Intra-abdominal drainage following pancreatic resection:A systematic review显示文摘AIM: To study all the aspects of drain management in pancreatic surgery.METHODS: We conducted a systematic review according to the PRISMA guidelines. We searched the Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials,EMBASE,Web of Science,and Pub Med(MEDLINE) for relevant articles on drain management in pancreatic surgery. The reference lists of relevant studies were screened to retrieve any further studies. We included all articles that reported clinical studies on human subjects with elective pancreatic resection and that compared various strategies of intra-abdominal drain management,such as drain vs no drain,selective drain use,early vs late drain extraction,and the use of different types of drains. RESULTS: A total of 19 studies concerned with drain management in pancreatic surgery involving 4194 patients were selected for this systematic review. We included studies analyzing the outcomes of pancreatic resection with and without intra-abdominal drains,studies comparing early vs late drain removal and studies analyzing different types of drains. The majority of the studies reporting equal or superior results for pancreatic resection without drains were retrospective and observational with significant selection bias. One recent randomized trial reported higher postoperative morbidity and mortality with routine omission of intraabdominal drains. With respect to the timing of drain removal,all of the included studies reported superior results with early drain removal. Regarding the varioustypes of drains,there is insufficient evidence to determine which type of drain is more suitable following pancreatic resection. CONCLUSION: The prophylactic use of drains remains controversial. When drains are used,early removal is recommended.
