2De novo characterization of the root transcriptome of a traditional Chinese medicinal plant Polygonum cuspidatum显示文摘Various active components have been extracted from the root of Polygonum cuspidatum.However,the genetic basis for their activity is virtually unknown.In this study,25600002 short reads (2.3 Gb) of P.cuspidatum root transcriptome were obtained via Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencing.A total of 86418 unigenes were assembled de novo and annotated.Twelve,18,60 and 54 unigenes were respectively mapped to the mevalonic acid (MVA),methyl-D-erythritol 4-phosphate (MEP),shikimate and resveratrol biosynthesis pathways,suggesting that they are involved in the biosynthesis of pharmaceutically important anthraquinone and resveratrol.Eighteen potential UDP-glycosyltransferase unigenes were identified as the candidates most likely to be involved in the biosynthesis of glycosides of secondary metabolites.Identification of relevant genes could be important in eventually increasing the yields of the medicinally useful constituents of the P.cuspidatum root.From the previously published transcriptome data of 19 non-model plant taxa,1127 shared orthologs were identified and characterized.This information will be very useful for future functional,phylogenetic and evolutionary studies of these plants.HAO DaCheng MA Pei MU Jun CHEN ShiLin XIAO PeiGen PENG Yong HUO Li XU LiJia SUN Chao 2012Science China(Life Sciences)2012,55,5:36

4Study on the morphology, crystalline structure and thermal properties of yam starch acetates with different degrees of substitution显示文摘This study was carried out to understand and establish the changes in physicochemical properties of starch extracted from Chinese yam (Dioscorea opposita Thunb.) after acetylation. Yam starch acetates with different degrees of substitution (DS) were prepared by the reaction of yam starch with glacial acetic acid/acetic anhydride using sulfuric acid as the catalyst. Their formation was confirmed by the presence of the carbonyl signal around 1750 cm-1 in the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra. The thermal behavior of the native starch and starch acetate were investigated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results reveal that the starch acetates are more thermally stable than the native starch. The starch esters showed 50% weight loss at tem- peratures from 328℃ to 372 ℃ , while the native starch underwent 50% weight loss at 325℃ . The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the starch decreased from 273℃ to 226℃. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns could be classified as typical of the C-type for yam starch. X-ray diffraction also showed the loss of the ordered C-type starch crystalline structure and the degree of crystallinity of starch de- creased from 36.10% to 10.96% with the increasing DS. 6From structural ceramics to 2D materials with multi-applications:A review on the development from MAX phases to MXenes显示文摘MAX phases(Ti_(3)SiC_(2),Ti_(3)AIC_(2),V_(2)AlC,TiqAlN_(3),etc.)are layered ternary carbides/nitrides,which are generally processed and researched as structure ceramics.Selectively removing A layer from MAX phases,MXenes(Ti_(3)C_(2),V_(2)C,Mo_(2)C,etc.)with two-dimensional(2D)structure can be prepared.The MXenes are electrically conductive and hydrophilic,which are promising as functional materials in many areas.This article reviews the milestones and the latest progress in the research of MAX phases and MXenes,from the perspective of ceramic science.Especially,this article focuses on the conversion from MAX phases to MXenes.First,we summarize the microstructure,preparation,properties,and applications of MAX phases.Among the various properties,the crack healing properties of MAX phase are highlighted.Thereafter,the critical issues on MXene research,including the preparation process,microstructure,MXene composites,and application of MXenes,are reviewed.Among the various applications,this review focuses on two selected applications:energy storage and electromagnetic interference shielding.Moreover,new research directions and future trends on MAX phases and MXenes are also discussed.Aiguo ZHOU Yi LIU Shibo LI Xiaohui WANG Guobing YING Qixun XIA Peigen ZHANG 2021Journal of Advanced Ceramics2021,10,6:4
7Commercialized non-Camellia tea:traditional function and molecular identification显示文摘Non-Camellia tea is a part of the colorful Chinese tea culture,and is also widely used as beverage and medicine in folk for disease prevention and treatment.In this study,37 samples were collected,including 33 kinds of non-Camellia teas and 4 kinds of teas(Camellia).Traditional functions of non-Camellia teas were investigated.Furthermore,non-Camellia teas of original plants were characterized and identified by molecular methods.Four candidate regions(rbcL,matK,ITS2,psbA-trnH)were amplified by polymerase chain reaction.In addition,DNA barcodes were used for the first time to discriminate the commercial non-Camellia tea and their adulterants,and to evaluate their safety.This study showed that BLASTN and the relevant phylogenetic tree are efficient tools for identification of the commercial non-Camellia tea and their adulterants.However,some sequences from original plants have not been found and there is a limitation of sequence number of original plants in GenBank.Submitting more original plant sequences to the GenBank will be helpful for evaluating the safety of non-Camellia teas.Ping Long Zhanhu Cui Yingli Wang Chunhong Zhang Na Zhang Minhui Li Peigen Xiao 2014Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2014,4,3:3

9An ethnopharmacological investigation of medicinal Salvia plants (Lamiaceae) in China显示文摘In China,over 40 species of the genus Salvia have been used as medicinal plants for various diseases,some for thousands of years.Recently,research has focused on the biological activities of Salvia medicinal plants used in traditional chinese medicine(TCM).However,to date a scientific survey of the genus Salvia in China has not been carried out.In this paper,we report the results of 10 field surveys of Salvia medicinal plants collected in 17 provinces including detailed information on their local names,growing environment,distribution and therapeutic effects.We also summarize the results of research on the materia medica,phytochemistry and pharmacology of some of the important Salvia medicinal plants.Our study reveals that 35 Salvia plants have been used in TCM in different regions of China,including 20 species used as Danshen to treat heart diseases,and 15 species used to treat a range of other conditions including gynecological diseases,muscular or skeletal problems,hepatitis,urological diseases,and mouth and eye conditions.It is clear that some species of Salvia L.possess significant pharmacological activity in the context of ethnopharmacological knowledge,especially in the treatment of heart disease.Further studies of the phytochemistry and pharmacology of Salvia species will no doubt improve their medical utilization and contribute to the development of new natural drugs.Minhui Li Qianquan Li Chunhong Zhang Na Zhang Zhanhu Cui Luqi Huang Peigen Xiao 2013Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2013,3,4:2
10Experimental investigations of granular shape effects on the generation of electrostatic charge显示文摘In solid processing systems,electrostatic problems are commonly observed for granules of various shapes.However,a complete understanding of the basic dependence of electrostatic charge generation on particle shape has yet to be established.This observation motivated the present study on examining the effect of granular shape on electrostatics.In this study,polyvinyl chloride(PVC) granules(diameter 1.1-4.1 mm,in the shape of a triangle or trapezium) were first discharged to remove any residual charges and subsequently their electrostatic charging characteristics were studied by allowing a granule to slide along a pipe wall.Several factors such as granular front-facing angle,length-ratio,sliding area,sliding orientation,sliding times,and relative humidity were considered when studying their effects on the electrostatic charging of granules.It was found that triangular granules with smaller front-facing angles tended to generate more electrostatic charge.The amount of electrostatic charge increased with granular lengthratio and sliding area but decreased with humidity.In addition,granular sliding in the orientation of the front-facing angle(for triangular granules) or the short side(for trapezoidal granules) generated more electrostatic charge than that in the orientation of the long side.For both granule shapes,the electrostatic charge increased with granular sliding times and reached a saturated state after around 8-9 sliding movements.The saturated electrostatic charge increased with either granular length ratio or sliding area.Jun Yao Jiejie Wu Yanlin Zhao Eldin Wee Chuan Lim Peigen Cao Fang Zhou Chi-Hwa Wang Ning Li 2014Particuology2014,12,4:2

12Role of MXene surface terminations in electrochemical energy storage:A review显示文摘MXenes are a group of recently discovered 2D materials and have attracted extensive attention since their first report in 2011;they have shown excellent prospects for energy storage applications owing to their unique layered microstructure and tunable electrical properties.One major feature of MXenes is their tailorable surface terminations(e.g.,-F,-O,-OH).Numerous studies have indicated that the composition of the surface terminations can significantly impact the electrochemical properties of MXenes.Nonetheless,the underlying mechanisms are still poorly understood,mainly because of the difficulties in quantitative analysis and characterization.This review summarizes the latest research progress on MXene terminations.First,a systematic introduction to the approaches for preparing MXenes is presented,which generally dominates the surface terminations.Then,theoretical and experimental efforts regarding the surface terminations are discussed,and the influence of surface terminations on the electronic and electrochemical properties of MXenes are generalized.Finally,we present the significance and research prospects of MXene terminations.We expect this review to encourage research on MXenes and provide guidance for usingthese materials for batteries and supercapacitors.Zhuoheng Bao Chengjie Lu Xin Cao Peigen Zhang Li Yang Heng Zhang Dawei Sha Wei He Wei Zhang Long Pan Zhengming Sun 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,9:2
13Improved gray wolf optimizer for distributed flexible job shop scheduling problem显示文摘The distributed flexible job shop scheduling problem(DFJSP),which is an extension of the flexible job shop scheduling problem,is a famous NP-complete combinatorial optimization problem.This problem is widespread in the manufacturing industries and comprises the following three subproblems:the assignment of jobs to factories,the scheduling of operations to machines,and the sequence of operations on machines.However,studies on DFJSP are seldom because of its difficulty.This paper proposes an effective improved gray wolf optimizer(IGWO)to solve the aforementioned problem.In this algorithm,new encoding and decoding schemes are designed to represent the three subproblems and transform the encoding into a feasible schedule,respectively.Four crossover operators are developed to expand the search space.A local search strategy with the concept of a critical factory is also proposed to improve the exploitability of IGWO.Effective schedules can be obtained by changing factory assignments and operation sequences in the critical factory.The proposed IGWO algorithm is evaluated on 69 famous benchmark instances and compared with six state-of-the-art algorithms to demonstrate its efficacy considering solution quality and computational efficiency.Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has achieved good improvement.Particularly,the proposed IGWO updates the new upper bounds of 13 difficult benchmark instances.LI XinYu XIE Jin MA QingJi GAO Liang LI PeiGen 2022Science China(Technological Sciences)2022,65,9:2

18Spontaneous Ga whisker formation on FeGa_3显示文摘FeGa_3 has attracted considerable attention as potential material for many fields, whereas the whiskering phenomenon may cast doubts on its applications. Spontaneous Ga whisker formation was observed on the ballmilled FeGa_3-Ga. The sample made from ball-milled FeGa_3 powders free of elemental Ga are immune to the Ga whisker formation, even if all the processing parameters were the same as the FeGa_3-Ga composite sample. In addition, several nano-sized Ga whiskers were found on the pressed FeGa_3-Ga composite without ball milling,and the as-synthesized FeGa_3-Ga grew only tiny Ga balls on the surface. These whiskering phenomena do not follow the traditional metal whisker formation mechanisms.
