The land use and land cover change database and its relative studies in China显示文摘In the mid-1990s, we established the national operative dynamic information serving systems on natural resources and environment. During building the land-use/land-cover change (LUCC)database for the mid-1990s, 520 scenes of remotely sensed images of Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) were interpreted into land-use/land-cover categories at scale of 1:100,000 under overall digital software environment after being geo-referenced and ortho-rectified. The vector map of land-use/land-cover in China at the scale of 1:100,000 was recently converted into a 1-km raster database that captures all ofthe high-resolution land-use information by calculating area percentage for each kind of land use category within every cell. Being designed as an operative dynamic information serving system, monitoring the change in land-use/land-cover at national level was executed. We have completed the updating of LUCC database by comparing the TM data in the mid-1990s with new data sources received during 1999-2000 and 1989-1990. The LUCC database has supported greatly the national LUCC research program in China and some relative studies are incompletely reviewed in this paper. | LIU Jiyuan, LIU Mingliang, DENG Xiangzheng, ZhuangDafang,ZHANG Zengxiang, LUO Di(1. | 3 | Geospatial-temporal analysis of land-use changes in the Yellow River Delta during the last 40 years显示文摘Comprehensive study on land-use change of spatial pattern and temporal process is the key component in land use/land cover changes (LUCC) study nowadays. According to the theories and methods of Geo-information Tupu (Carto-methodology in Geo-information, CMGI) for geospatial and temporal analysis and integration models of spatial pattern and temporal processes in GIS, the paper puts forward Tupu methodology of land-use change and names the basic synthetic unit of spatial-temporal information Tupu unit. Tupu unit is the synthetic unit for geospatial-temporal analysis, which is synthesized by “space·attribute·process”features and composed of relatively homogeneous geographic unit and temporal unit. Based on the spatial features of 4 stages of land-use change in 1956, 1984, 1991, and 1996, a series of Tupu on land-use change in the Yellow River Delta (YRD) are created and studied in the paper, which includes 3 temporal units of spatial-temporal Tupu, process Tupu of land-use changes during the last 40 years, and reconstructions of a series of “arisen”Tupu, “arisen”process Tupu and pattern Tupu on land-use changes in the last 40 years by remapping tables of a reclassifying system. There are 3 methods of Tupu analysis on land-use change that are used to disclose change processes of land-use spatial conversion in YRD, such as spatial query and statistics, order of Tupu units by area and land-use conversion matrixes. In order to reveal the spatial pattern of land-use change processes, we analyze spatial-temporal changes of each Tupu above in various temporal units and spatial difference of pattern Tupu in the last 40 years by dynamic Tupu units. Tupu analysis on regional land-use is a promising trial on the comprehensive research of “spatial pattern of dynamic process”and “temporal process of spatial pattern”in LUCC research. The geo-information Tupu methodology would be a powerful and efficient tool on integrated studies of spatial pattern and temporal process in geoscience. | YE Qinghua1,3,4,LIU Gaohuan2,TIAN Guoliang1,CHEN Shenliang3,HUANG Chong2,CHEN Shupeng1,2,LIU Qingshen2,CHANG Jun2 & SHI Yanan2 1.State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science,Institute of Remote Sensing Applications(IRSA),Chinese Academy of Science(CAS),Beijing 100101,China 2.Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research,CAS,Beijing 100101,China 3.State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research,East China Normal University,Shanghai 200062,China 4.Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research(ITPR),CAS,Beijing 100085,China Correspondence should be addressed to Ye Qinghua(email: yeqh@itpcas.ac.cn) | 2004 | Science China Earth Sciences2004,47,11: | 22
Change of surface cover greenness in China between 2000 and 2010显示文摘Surface greenness reflects the situation of vegetation cover.Vegetation index calculated from the Red and Near Infrared bands of remote sensing images, whose values indicate the level of photosynthetic activity,is monotonically related to surface greenness when vegetation canopy does not fully cover the background soil.Especially for desert regions, vegetation index is positively correlated with vegetation coverage. Therefore, vegetation index can be used to study the change in greenness of desert areas. This study collected MODIS Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data from 2000 to 2010 and analyzed their change over China in this period. The results showed that an increasing trend of NDVI occurred over 66.84% (OLS fitting) or 64.27% (LAD fitting) of China, indicating that China's greenness is increasing overall.Meanwhile, desertification of China decreased.Areas showing large increase in greenness are found in Shaanxi,Shanxi,Ningxia,Henan,Shandong,Qinghai, and Gansu while regions with large decrease in greenness are found in Northeast Inner Mongolia,South Tibet,Jiangsu, and Shanghai.Changes of Qinghai,Gansu,Xinjiang and South Tibet could probably be driven by climate factors.Decrease of greenness in Northeast Inner Mongolia was related to agricultural reclamation.Decrease of greenness in Jiangsu and Shanghai was related to rapid urbanization.Climate factors did not exhibit obvious correspondence to the large increase in greenness in Shaanxi,Shanxi,Ningxia and Gansu, indicating that the changes might have been caused by human factors. The reduction of desert areas in China could probably have been caused by human management and protection at the national scale. | LIU Shuang1,4& GONG Peng1,2,31State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science, Jointly Sponsored by Institute of Remote Sensing Applications of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100101, China 2Institute for Global Change Studies & Center for Earth System Science, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China 3Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management, University of California, Berkeley, CA94720, USA 4Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100049, China | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,22: | 23
Estimating forest aboveground biomass using HJ-1 Satellite CCD and ICESat GLAS waveform data显示文摘The ecosystem in northeastern China and the Russian Far East is a hotspot of scientific research into the global carbon balance.Forest aboveground biomass(AGB) is an important component in the land surface carbon cycle. In this study, using forest inventory data and forest distribution data, the AGB was estimated for forest in Daxinganlin in northeastern China by combining charge-coupled device(CCD) data from the Small Satellite for Disaster and Environment Monitoring and Forecast(HJ-1) and Geoscience Laser Altimeter System(GLAS) waveform data from the Ice,Cloud and land Elevation Satellite(ICESat). The forest AGB prediction models were separately developed for different forest types in the research area at GLAS footprint level from GLAS waveform parameters and field survey plot biomass in the Changqing(CQ) Forest Center, which was calculated from forest inventory data. The resulted statistical regression models have a R2=0.68 for conifer and R2=0.71 for broadleaf forests. These models were used to estimate biomass for all GLAS footprints of forest located in the study area. All GLAS footprint biomass coupled with various spectral reflectivity parameters and vegetation indices derived from HJ-1 satellite CCD data were used in multiple regression analyses to establish biomass prediction models(R2=0.55 and R2=0.52 for needle and broadleaf respectively). Then the models were used to produce a forest AGB map for the whole study area using the HJ-1 data.Biomass data obtained from forest inventory data of the Zhuanglin(ZL) Forest Center were used as independent field measurements to validate the AGB estimated from HJ-1 CCD data(R2=0.71).About 80% of biomass samples had an error less than 20 t ha-1,and the mean error of all validation samples is 5.74 t ha-1.The pixel-level biomass map was then stratified into different biomass levels to illustrate the AGB spatial distribution pattern in this area.It was found that HJ-1 wide-swath data and GLAS waveform data can be combined to estimate forest biomass with good precision, and the biomass data can be used as input data for future carbon budget analysis. | GUO ZhiFeng1,CHI Hong1,2 & SUN GuoQing1,3 1State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science,Jointly Sponsored by the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Normal University,Institute of Remote Sensing Applications,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100101,China 2Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100049,China 3Department of Geography University of Maryland,College Park,MD 20742,USA | 2010 | Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,S1: | 21
Radiometric cross-calibration of the CBERS-02 CCD camera with the TERRA MODIS显示文摘For the application of the CCD camera, the most important payload on CBERS-02, the key is to provide long-term stable radiometric calibration coefficients. Although the vicarious calibration had been proved successful, it had its limitations such as test site requirement and unsuitable for historical data. Cross-calibration is one of the alternative methods, but it needs synchro surface spectrum to achieve spectral band matching factors. Our effort is to probe the influences on these factors. Simulations with a lot of surface spectrum showed that the factors changed with the viewing geometry, atmospheric condition and surface targets. However, simulating with the same viewing geometry and atmospheric condition, the spectral band matching factors of the same or similar surface targets’ spectrum acquired from different dates and different places would like to be consistent to each other within 1%―5%. Thus, the synchro measurement data can be substituted by the same or similar target from other source. Based on this method, using the MODIS as the reference, the cross-calibration was performed for CCD camera. The research demonstrated that the traditional method with single calibration site was inappropriate for CCD camera, since the offsets for its four spectral bands were not zeros. With four calibration sites, these offsets were obtained. And the camera was detected to degrade with dates based on four times of cross-calibrations. | LI Xiaoying1,2,3, GU Xingfa1,3,4, MIN Xiangjun5, YU Tao1,3, FU Qiaoyan5, ZHANG Yong1,2,3 & LI Xiaowen1,3 1. | 7 | Co-seismic ground deformation and source parameters of Mani M7.9 earthquake inferred from spaceborne D-InSAR observation data显示文摘We obtain the co-seismic ground deformation field of the Mani M7.9 earthquake on November 8, 1997 through three-pass differential interferometric processing. Then we get the geometric and kinematics parameters of this event by the elastic half-space model and forward modeling with the InSAR data. The following results have been obtained: (i) The deformation fields on both sides of the seismogenic fault are affected by the co-seismic deformation field even in 110 km away from the fault. The loss of phase coherence belt caused by the zone of ground rupture crosses the image from east to west with a length of an area 110 km. (ii) The maximum horizontal displacement caused by the earthquake reaches 7.96 m. (iii) The earthquake fault can be divided into four parts, and the deformation field of the middle two parts is bigger than that of the other two, with lengths of 27 km and 37 km, respectively. And their average sliding values on the rupture surface are 6500 mm and 6000 mm, respectively, and their depths both are 35 km. The segment of 27 km length is the major rupture surface of this earthquake. The west part and the east part of the fault have lengths of 23 km and 26 km, respectively. The sliding value of the west one is 4000 mm and that of the east one is 5800 mm. They extend to depths of 20 km and 18 km, respectively. | SHAN Xinjian1,MA Jin1,WANG Changlin2,LIU Jiahang1,SONG Xiaoyu1 & ZHANG Guifang1 1.Institute of Geology and Laboratory of Tectonophysics,China Seismological Bureau,Beijing 100029,China 2.Institute of Remote Sensing Application,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100101,China | 2004 | Science China Earth Sciences2004,47,6: | 15
Aerosol optical depth retrieval by HJ-1/CCD supported by MODIS surface reflectance data显示文摘The high spatial resolution and temporal observation frequency of HJ-1/CCD make it suitable for aerosol monitoring. However, because of the lack of a shortwave infrared band,it is difficult to use HJ-1/CCD imagery to retrieve aerosol optical depth(AOD).We developed a new algorithm for HJ-1/CCD AOD retrieval by introducing MODIS surface reflectance outputs(MOD09) as support. In this algorithm HJ-1/CCD blue band surface reflectance was retrieved through MOD09 blue band surface reflectance by band matching of the two sensors.AOD at 550 nm was then generated through a pre-calculated look-up table for HJ-1/CCD.Eighteen HJ-1/CCD images covering the Jing-Jin-Tang(Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan) region were used to retrieve AOD using the new algorithm, and the AODs were then validated using AERONET ground measurements in Beijing and Xianghe. The validation shows that compared with AERONET ground measurements,27/29 AODs have error less than 0.1 in absolute value. | SUN Lin1,2,SUN ChangKui1,LIU QinHuo2 & ZHONG Bo2 1Geomatics College,Shandong University of Science and Technology,Qingdao 266510,China 2State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100101,China | 2010 | Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,S1: | 14
The definition of effective emissivity of land surface at the scale of remote sensing pixels显示文摘Remote sensing (RS) of land surface temperature (LST) is a very challenging problem at the present development stage of RS science. Tremendous efforts have been devoted to atmosphere correction and temperature emissivity separation (TES) of new LST product algorithms. However, the mechanism of directionality of thermal emission from land surface remains unknown, and even worse, there are confusions on the definition of the effective emissivity of land surface at the scale of RS pixels. | 11 | Satellite SAR interferometric observations of displacements associated with urban subsidence in Suzhou, Eastern China显示文摘SAR interferometry (InSAR) has a high potential for surface displacement mapping in the range from millimeter to meter. In this paper the potential of ERS-1/2 SAR interferometry for mapping subtle land subsidence has been investigated. A time series of ERS-1/2 SAR data from February 1993 to February 2000 is collected from measurements taken in Suzhou city, Jiangsu Province, China, eight ERS-1/2 SAR images are used to create seven interferograms, and three differential interferograms are produced using the three-pass method, which clearly show the spatial extent of land subsidence. The deformation maps are validated by leveling surveys, the correlation coefficient and standard deviation between them are 0.943 and 0.1706 respectively. Based on seven benchmarks, the subsidence rates are estimated, the overall trends are in close agreement with InSAR results. The results of study show that for the mapping of land subsidence in urban environments InSAR has a strong potential due to its cost-saving, high resolution and accuracy. | WANG Chao, ZHANG Hong, LIU Zhi, CHENG Suozhong and LU Guonian(1. | 12 | Characterizing and estimating rice brown spot disease severity using stepwise regression, principal component regression and partial least-square regression显示文摘Detecting plant health conditions plays a key role in farm pest management and crop protection. In this study, measurement of hyperspectral leaf reflectance in rice crop (Oryzasativa L.) was conducted on groups of healthy and infected leaves by the fungus Bipolaris oryzae (Helminthosporium oryzae Breda. de Hann) through the wavelength range from 350 to 2 500 nm. The percentage of leaf surface lesions was estimated and defined as the disease severity. Statistical methods like multiple stepwise regression, principal component analysis and partial least-square regression were utilized to calculate and estimate the disease severity of rice brown spot at the leaf level. Our results revealed that multiple stepwise linear regressions could efficiently estimate disease severity with three wavebands in seven steps. The root mean square errors (RMSEs) for training (n=210) and testing (n=53) dataset were 6.5% and 5.8%, respectively. Principal component analysis showed that the first principal component could explain approximately 80% of the variance of the original hyperspectral reflectance. The regression model with the first two principal components predicted a disease severity with RMSEs of 16.3% and 13.9% for the training and testing dataset, respec-tively. Partial least-square regression with seven extracted factors could most effectively predict disease severity compared with other statistical methods with RMSEs of 4.1% and 2.0% for the training and testing dataset, respectively. Our research demon-strates that it is feasible to estimate the disease severity of rice brown spot using hyperspectral reflectance data at the leaf level. | LIU Zhan-yu1, HUANG Jing-feng1, SHI Jing-jing1, TAO Rong-xiang2, ZHOU Wan3, ZHANG Li-li3 (1Institute of Agriculture Remote Sensing and Information System Application, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310029, China) (2Institute of Plant Protection and Microbiology, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hangzhou 310021, China) (3Plant Inspection Station of Hangzhou City, Hangzhou 310020, China) | 2007 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2007,8,10: | 13
Information flow and controlling in regularization inversion of quantitative remote sensing显示文摘In order to minimize uncertainty of the inversed parameters to the largest extent by making full use of the limited information in remote sensing data, it is necessary to understand what the information flow in quantitative remote sensing model inversion is, thus control the information flow. Aiming at this, the paper takes the linear kernel-driven model inversion as an example. At first, the information flow in different inversion methods is calculated and analyzed, then the effect of information flow controlled by multi-stage inversion strategy is studied, finally, an information matrix based on USM is defined to control information flow in inversion. It shows that using Shannon entropy decrease of the inversed parameters can express information flow more properly. Changing the weight of a priori knowledge in inversion or fixing parameters and partitioning datasets in multi-stage inversion strategy can control information flow. In regularization inversion of remote sensing, information matrix based on USM may be a better tool for quantitatively controlling information flow. | YANG Hua, XU Wangli, ZHAO Hongrui, CHEN Xue & WANG Jindi Research Center for Remote Sensing and GIS, School of Geography, Beijing Normal University, State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science, Beijing Key Laboratory for Remote Sensing of Environment and Digital Cities, Beijing 100875, China Department of Mathematics, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China | 2005 | Science China Earth Sciences2005,48,1: | 12
Physico-Chemical Properties and Laboratory Hyperspectral Reflectance of Coastal Saline Soil in Shangyu City of Zhejiang Province, China显示文摘45 and 50 composite soil samples were collected, respectively, from two agricultural fields, that were enclosed and reclaimed from coastal tidal-fiat areas in 1996 and 1984 respectively, in Shemgyu of Zhejiang Province, China, to investigate the physico-chemical properties and the hyperspectral characteristics of the saline soils and to make an assessment on their relationships. The reflectance spectra of saline soils were measured using a spectroradiometer in laboratory. The mean spectral curves of the saline soils from the two sites different in reclamation year showed that the saline soil taken from the recently reclaimed land with higher salinity demonstrated a lower reflectance intensity in the spectral region from about 550 nm to 2300 nm. In addition, nine absorption bands, i.e., 488 nm, 530 nm, 670 nm, 880 nm, 940 nm, 1400 nm,1900 nm, 2 200 nm and 2 300 nm, were chosen as the spectral bands to investigate the relationships between soil physico-chemical properties by means of Pearson correlation analysis. Finally, the first two principal components were calculated from nine absorption bands and used to discriminate the saline soil samples taken from two sampled fields. The results indicate that it is feasible to detect physico-chemical properties of saline soils from fields reclaimed for varying time periods on the basis of the hyperspectral data. | SHI ZHOU, HUANG MINGXIANG and LI YANInstitute of Agricultural Remote Sensing and Information System, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310029 (China) | 2003 | Pedosphere2003,13,3: | 12
Automated detection of lunar craters based on object-oriented approach显示文摘The object-oriented approach is a powerful method in making classification. With the segmentation of images to objects, many features can be calculated based on the objects so that the targets can be distinguished. However, this method has not been applied to lunar study. In this paper we attempt to apply this method to detecting lunar craters with promising results. Craters are the most obvious features on the moon and they are important for lunar geologic study. One of the important questions in lunar research is to estimate lunar surface ages by examination of crater density per unit area. Hence, proper detection of lunar craters is necessary. Manual crater identification is inefficient, and a more efficient and effective method is needed. This paper describes an object-oriented method to detect lunar craters using lunar reflectance images. In the method, many objects were first segmented from the image based on size, shape, color, and the weights to every layer. Then the feature of 'contrast to neighbor objects' was selected to identify craters from the lunar image. In the next step, by merging the adjacent objects belonging to the same class, almost every crater can be taken as an independent object except several very big craters in the study area. To remove the crater rays diagnosed as craters, the feature of 'length/width' was further used with suitable parameters to finish recognizing craters. Finally, the result was exported to ArcGIS for manual modification to those big craters and the number of craters was acquired. | YUE ZongYu1,2,3,4, LIU JianZhong3 & WU GanGuo2 1 Institute of Remote Sensing Application, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100101, China 2 China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Beijing 100083, China 3 National Astronomical Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100012, China 4 Department of Geological Sciences, The University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio, TX 78249, U.S.A | 2008 | Chinese Science Bulletin2008,53,23: | 12

Global absorption center map of the mafic minerals on the Moon as viewed by CE-1 IIM data显示文摘Determining the global distribution of minerals on the Moon has been an important goal of lunar science. Hyperspectral remote sensing is an important approach to acquiring minerals on the Moon on the global scale. The wavelength of the absorption band center is the key parameter for identifying minerals with reflectance spectra as well as remote sensing data. The global absorption center map of the mafic minerals of the Moon was produced for the first time with the Chang’E-1 IIM data. This map shows the global distribution of mafic minerals such as orthopyroxenes, clinopyroxenes, and olivine and even plagioclase feldspar of the Moon. The validation for some representative areas indicates that the global map is reliable and even more detailed than the results derived from Clementine-data. Moreover, our method is insensitive to the topography and viewing and illumination geometries. The global absorption band center map not only contributes to the lunar science research, but also has other implications to be further studied. Moreover, the preprocessing methods such as calibration and correction introduced in this study can be useful in other research with IIM data. | WU YunZhao 1,4* , ZHANG Xia 2 , YAN BoKun 3 , GAN FuPing 3 , TANG ZeSheng 4 , XU AoAo 4 , ZHENG YongChun 5 & ZOU YongLiao 5 1 School of Geographic and Oceanographic Sciences, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210093, China 2 Institute of Remote Sensing Applications, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100101, China 3 Institute for Remote Sensing Method, China Aero Geophysical Survey and Remote Sensing Center for Land and Resources, Beijing 100083, China 4 Collaborative Research Laboratory on Lunar and Planetary Exploration, Macao University of Science and Technology, Taipa, Macao, China 5 National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100012, China | 2010 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2010,53,12: | 11

With this method, buildinga knowledge base for automated soil mapping was easier than using the conventional knowledge acquisitionapproach. The knowledge base built by classification tree was used by the knowledge classifier to perform thesoil type classification of Longyou County, Zhejiang Province, China using Landsat TM bi-temporal imagesand GIS data. To evaluate the performance of the resultant knowledge bases, the classification results werecompared to existing soil map based on a field survey.
