1Mesenchymal VEGFA induces aberrant differentiation in heterotopic ossification显示文摘Heterotopic ossification(HO)is a debilitating condition characterized by the pathologic formation of ectopic bone.HO occurs commonly following orthopedic surgeries,burns,and neurologic injuries.While surgical excision may provide palliation,the procedure is often burdened with significant intra-operative blood loss due to a more robust contribution of blood supply to the pathologic bone than to native bone.Based on these clinical observations,we set out to examine the role of vascular signaling in HO.Vascular endothelial growth factor A(VEGFA)has previously been shown to be a crucial pro-angiogenic and pro-osteogenic cue during normal bone development and homeostasis.Our findings,using a validated mouse model of HO,demonstrate that HO lesions are highly vascular,and that VEGFA is critical to ectopic bone formation,despite lacking a contribution of endothelial cells within the developing anlagen.Charles Hwang Simone Marini Amanda KHuber David MStepien Michael Sorkin Shawn Loder Chase APagani John Li Noelle DVisser Kaetlin Vasquez Mohamed AGarada Shuli Li Jiajia Xu Ching-Yun Hsu Paul BYu Aaron WJames Yuji Mishina Shailesh Agarwal Jun Li Benjamin Levi 2019Bone Research2019,7,4:4
2Origin of ultrafast growth of monolayer WSe_(2) via chemical vapor deposition显示文摘The ultrafast growth of large-area,high-quality WSe2 domains with a compact triangular morphology has recently been achieved on a gold substrate via chemical vapor deposition.However,the underlying mechanism responsible for ultrafast growth remains elusive.Here,we first analyze growth processes and identify two possible pathways that might achieve ultrafast growth:Path 1,fast edge attachment and ultrafast edge diffusion;Path 2,fast kink nucleation and ultrafast kink propagation.We perform kinetic Monte Carlo simulations and first-principles calculations to assess the viability of these two paths,finding that Path 1 is not viable due to the high edge diffusion barrier calculated from first-principles calculations.Remarkably,Path 2 reproduces all the experimental growth features(domain morphology,domain orientation,and growth rate),and the associated energetic data are consistent with first-principles calculations.The present work unveils the underlying mechanism for the ultrafast growth of WSe2,and may provide a new route for the ultrafast growth of other two-dimensional materials.Shuai Chen Junfeng Gao Bharathi MSrinivasan Gang Zhang Viacheslav Sorkin Ramanarayan Hariharaputran Yong-Wei Zhang 2019npj Computational Materials2019,,1:2
