1Health benefits of black rice——A review显示文摘Rice has been a staple food across the globe since time immemorial.Generally,different types of rice,such as white,purple,red,brown,and black rice,are named following the physical appearance of the rice bran.The color of the rice bran differs due to the presence of pigments in the rice varieties.Apart from general uses like cooking and fodder for cattle,rice has also been extensively involved in the field of medicine,some of which have been scientifically addressed.Although pigmented rice varieties have a history of heritage and are admired all over the world,awareness concerning the benefits of consuming these types of rice is limited.The main theme of this research article is to define the scientifically proven medicinal properties of black rice.The health properties of black rice are experimentally renowned,and gathered empirical data regarding the physiological and pharmacological activity of black rice remarkably supports the use of black rice in nutritional therapy.Balasubramaniam Jaya Prasad Pazhaniyandi Subramania Sharavanan Rengaraj Sivaraj 2019Grain & Oil Science and Technology2019,2,4:7
2Research progress in rare earths and their composites based electrode materials for supercapacitors显示文摘Supercapacitor is an imminent potential energy storage system,and acts as a booster to the batteries and fuel cells to provide necessary power density.In the last decade,carbon and carbonaceous materials,conducting polymers and transition metal oxide/hydroxide based electrode materials have been made to show a remarkable electrochemical performance.Rare-earth materials have attracted significant research attention as an electrode material for supercapacitor applications based on their physicochemical properties.In this review,rare earth metals,rare earth metal oxides/hydroxides,rare-earth metal chalcogenides,rare-earth metal/carbon composites and rare-earth metal/metal oxide composites based electrode materials are discussed for supercapacitors.We also discuss the energy chemistry of rare-earth metal-based materials.Besides the factors that affect the performance of the electrode materials,their evaluation methods and supercapacitor performances are discussed in details.Finally,the future outlook in rare-earth-based electrode materials is revealed towards its current developments for supercapacitor applications.Subasri Arunachalam Balakrishnan Kirubasankar Duo Pan Hu Liu Chao Yan Zhanhu Guo Subramania Angaiah 2020Green Energy & Environment2020,5,3:2
3Efficiency of Oryza punctata extract on glucose regulation: Inhibition of α-amylase and α-glucosidase activities显示文摘Red rice(Oryza punctata) is a type of unpolished rice which has higher nutritional value compared to white rice or even polished rice. Owing to higher nutritive content and metabolites, dieticians strongly advise red rice for peoples with metabolic disorders including diabetics. However, the mechanism of action and contents of secondary metabolites in Indian red rice variety not reported scientifically. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate its mechanism of action through inhibitory effect of α-amylase and α-glucosidase. Initially, the whole grain of red rice was macerated with methanol at room temperature for 2 weeks. Then, the dried and powdered, samples at different concentrationfi(2.5, 10, 40, and 80 μg/m L) were employed to nd out in vitro inhibitory effects on α-amylase and α-glucosidase. In addition, an enzyme kinetics of effective extract was calculated by Line-weaver Burk(LWB) plot analysis. Moreover,the valuable metabolites in the efficient methanolic extract were quantified using high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). The results demonstrated that red rice methanolic extract(RRMEt) possess strong inhibitory activity onα-amylase and α-glucosidase compared with acarbose(P < 0.01). The IC50 values of RRMEt was found to be 29.7 ±7.43 μg/m L for α-amylase and 20.4 ± 0.25 μg/m L for α-glucosidase. LWB indicated that RRMEt is an uncompetitive inhibitor. Further, HPLC analysis revealed protocatechuic acid, catechin, and chlorogenic acids were more abundant in RRMEt among the fourteen metabolites.
