1New insights of Helicobacter pylori host-pathogen interactions: The triangle of virulence factors, epigenetic modifications and non-coding RNAs显示文摘Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is a model organism for understanding host-pathogen interactions and infection-mediated carcinogenesis. Gastric cancer and H. pylori colonization indicates the strong correlation. The progression and exacerbation of H. pylori infection are influenced by some factors of pathogen and host. Several virulence factors involved in the proper adherence and attenuation of immune defense to contribute the risk of emerging gastric cancer, therefore analysis of them is very important. H. pylori also modulates inflammatory and autophagy process to intensify its pathogenicity. From the host regard, different genetic factors particularly affect the development of gastric cancer. Indeed, epigenetic modifications, Micro RNA and long non-coding RNA received more attention. Generally, various factors related to pathogen and host that modulate gastric cancer development in response to H. pylori need more attention due to develop an efficacious therapeutic intervention. 2Elastic properties of chiral,anti-chiral,and hierarchical honeycombs:A simple energy-based approach显示文摘The effects of two geometric refinement strategies widespread in natural structures, chirality and self-similar hierarchy, on the in-plane elastic response of two-dimensional honeycombs were studied systematically. Simple closed-form expressions were derived for the elastic moduli of several chiral, antichiral, and hierarchical honeycombs with hexagon and square based networks. Finite element analysis was employed to validate the analytical estimates of the elastic moduli. The results were also compared with the numerical and experimental data available in the literature. We found that introducing a hierarchical refinement increases the Young's modulus of hexagon based honeycombs while decreases their shear modulus. For square based honeycombs, hierarchy increases the shear modulus while decreasing their Young's modulus. Introducing chirality was shown to always decrease the Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of the structure. However, chirality remains the only route to auxeticity. 3Diversity of Helicobacter pylori genotypes in Iranian patients with different gastroduodenal disorders显示文摘AIM:To investigate the diversity of Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)genotypes and correlations with disease outcomes in an Iranian population with different gastroduodenal disorders.METHODS:Isolates of H.pylori from patients with different gastroduodenal disorders were analyzed after culture and identification by phenotypic and genotypic methods.Genomic DNA was extracted with the QIAamp DNA mini kit(Qiagen,Germany).After DNA extraction,genotyping was done for cagA,vacA(s and m regions),iceA(iceA1,iceA2)and babA with specific primers for each allele using polymerase chain reaction(PCR).All patients’pathologic and clinical data and their relation with known genotypes were analyzed by using SPSS version 19.0 software.2test and Fisher’s exact test were used to assess relationships between categorical variables.The level of statistical significance was set at P<0.05.RESULTS:A total of 71 isolates from 177 patients with different gastroduodenal disorders were obtained.Based on analysis of the cagA gene(positive or negative),vacA s-region(s1or s2),vacA m-region(m1or m2),iceA allelic type(iceA1and iceA2)and babA gene(positive or negative),twenty different genotypic combinations were recognized.The prevalence of cagA,vacA s1,vacA s2,vacA m1,vacA m2,iceA1,iceA2,iceA1+iceA2and babA were 62%,78.9%,19.7%,21.1%,78.9%,15.5%,22.5%,40.8%and 95.8%,respectively.Interestingly,evaluation of PCR results for cagA in 6 patients showed simultaneous existence of cagA variants according to their size diversities that proposed mixed infection in these patients.The most prevalent genotype in cagA-positive isolates was cagA+/vacAs1m2/iceA1+A2/babA+and in cagA-negative isolates was cagA-/vacAs1m2/iceA-/babA+.There were no relationships between the studied genes and histo-pathological findings(H.pylori density,neutrophil activity,lymphoid aggregation in lamina propria and glandular atrophy).The strains which carry cagA,vacAs1/m1,iceA2and babA genes showed significant associations with severe active chronic gastritis(P=0.011,0.025,0.020 and 0.031,respectively).The vacAs1genotype had significant correlation with the presence of the cagA gene(P=0.013).Also,babA genotype showed associations with cagA(P=0.024).In the combined genotypes,only cagA+/vacAs1m1/iceA2/babA+genotype showed correlation with severe active chronic gastritis(P=0.025).CONCLUSION:This genotyping panel can be a useful tool for detection of virulent H.pylori isolates and can provide valuable guidance for prediction of the clinical outcomes.Farzam Vaziri Shahin Najar Peerayeh Masoud Alebouyeh Tabassom Mirzaei Yoshio Yamaoka Mahsa Molaei Nader Maghsoudi Mohammad Reza Zali 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,34:5
4Asymptomatic seminal infection of herpes simplex virus:impact on male infertility显示文摘In more than half of infertile men,the cause of their infertility is unknown.Several studies revealed the role of viral infections in male infertility.The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) and HSV-2 in semen from asymptomatic infertile male patients,and its association with altered semen parameters.A total of 70 semen samples were collected from infertile men who attended the Research and Clinical Center for Infertility in Yazd,Iran.Semen analysis and diagnostic real-time PCR using specific primers and probes for HSV-1 and HSV-2 DNA were performed.Comparison of semen parameters between virally infected and non-infected samples were performed with independent t-test and Mann-Whitney test.Semen analysis showed that infertile men fell into two groups,the male factor group and the unexplained group.HSV-1 and HSV-2 DNA was detected in 16 (22.9%) and 10 (14.3%) of 70 semen samples,respectively.All HSV-positive samples had abnormal semen parameters (the male factor group).Although HSV infection was not associated with sperm motility and morphological defects,it was correlated with lower sperm count in the seminal fluid.The findings suggest that asymptomatic seminal infection of HSV plays an important role in male infertility by adversely affecting sperm count.Seyed Hamidreza Monavari Mostafa Salehi vaziri Mohammadali Khalili Mahmoud Shamsi-Shahrabadi Hossein Keyvani Hamidreza Mollaei Mehdi Fazlalipour 2013The Journal of Biomedical Research2013,27,1:4

6Effect of pyrite content of feed and configuration of locked particles on rougher flotation of copper in low and high pyritic ore types显示文摘Misreported pyrite into copper concentrates dramatically declines copper grade and recovery. Copper flotation can be also more complicated if flotation feed comes from an elevated-pyritic copper ore. In this investigation, the effect of two different ore types(high pyritic and low pyritic feeds) was studied on rougher stage of industrial copper flotation circuit. Samples were taken from different streams and the structure of chalcopyrite within the pyrite and non-sulfide gangue minerals was examined in various size fractions for mentioned ore types. Results indicated that 72% and 56% of the total floated pyrite was transferred to concentrate in first four cells in the low and high pyritic feeds, respectively. Whereas, this proportion for floated SiO_2 in last ten cells was detected as 72% and 71%, respectively. 7Treatment with dimethyl fumarate ameliorates liver ischemia/reperfusion injury显示文摘AIM To investigate the hypothesis that treatment with dimethyl fumarate(D MF) mayame liorate liver ischemia/reperfusion injury(I/RI).METHODS Rats were divided into 3 groups: sham, control(CTL), and DMF. DMF(25 mg/kg, twice/d) was orally administered for 2 d before the procedure. The CTL and DMF rats were subjected to ischemia for 1 h and reperfusion for 2 h. The serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and malondialdehyde(MDA) levels, adenosine triphosphate(ATP), NO × metabolites, anti-oxidant enzyme expression level, antiinflammatory effect, and anti-apoptotic effect were determined.RESULTS Histological tissue damage was significantly reduced in the DMF group(Suzuki scores: sham: 0 ± 0; CTL: 9.3± 0.5; DMF: 2.5 ± 1.2; sham vs CTL, P < 0.0001; CTL vs DMF, P < 0.0001). This effect was associated with significantly lower serum ALT(DMF 5026 ± 2305 U/L vs CTL 10592 ± 1152 U/L, P = 0.04) and MDA(DMF 18.2 ± 1.4 μmol/L vs CTL 26.0 ± 1.0 μmol/L, P = 0.0009). DMF effectively improved the ATP content(DMF 20.3 ± 0.4 nmol/mg vs CTL 18.3 ± 0.6 nmol/mg, P = 0.02), myeloperoxidase activity(DMF 7.8 ± 0.4 m U/m L vs CTL 6.0 ± 0.5 m U/m L, P = 0.01) and level of endothelial nitric oxide synthase expression(DMF 0.38 ± 0.05-fold vs 0.17 ± 0.06-fold, P = 0.02). The higher expression levels of anti-oxidant enzymes(catalase and glutamatecysteine ligase modifier subunit and lower levels of key inflammatory mediators(nuclear factor-kappa B and cyclooxygenase-2 were confirmed in the DMF group.CONCLUSION DMF improved the liver function and the anti-oxidant and inflammation status following I/RI. 9Hepatocellular carcinoma immunotherapy:The impact of epigenetic drugs and the gut microbiome显示文摘The incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)has been increasing for decades.This disease has now risen to become the sixth most common malignancy overall,while ranking as the third most frequent cause of cancer mortality.While several surgical interventions and loco-regional treatment options are available,up to 80%of patients present with advanced disease not amenable to standard therapies.Indeed,traditional cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents are notoriously ineffective and essentially play no role in the management of affected patients.This has led to an enormous need for more effective sys-temic therapeutic options.In recent years,immunotherapy has emerged as a potentially viable and exciting new alternative for the treatment of HCC.Although the current immunotherapeutic options remain imperfect,various strategies can be employed to further improve their efficacy.New findings have revealed epigenetic modulation can be effective as a new approach for improving HCC immuno-therapy.Studying the gut microbiome(gut-liver axis)can also be an interesting subject in this regard.Here,we explore the latest insights into the role of immunotherapy treating HCC,both mono and in combination with other agents.We also focus on the impact of epigenetic drugs and the microbiome in the overall effectiveness of HCC immunotherapy.Farzam Vaziri Steven D.Colquhoun Yu-Jui Yvonne Wan 2020Liver Research2020,4,4:2

11Experimental investigation of flow and distortion mitigation by mechanical vortex generators in a coupled serpentine inlet-turbofan engine system显示文摘The performance of compact,aggressive ducts in advanced propulsion systems is limited by the internal flow separation coupled with the formation of secondary counter-rotating vortices that give rise to intensive flow distortions at the duct exit.An experimental investigation was conducted to study the flow field and passive suppression of flow separation and Aerodynamic Interface Plane (AIP) distortion in a serpentine air inlet duct.Tests were performed by a turbofan engine at several Engine Operating Points (EOPs) from 56%(idle) to 100%(max).A large total pressure deficit region arose at the upper part of the AIP,which was associated with the upper surface flow separation.Using the new mechanical S-type vortex generators in two longitudinal positions (VGl and VG2),separation and loss were diminished at the upper part of the duct and AIP.The VG2 arrangement attained the maximum reductions in distortion coefficients which were 73.72%,60.7% and 37.8% in DC(90°),DC(60°) and△P_C/P metrics,respectively.In the next step of the study,some unsteady aspects of the flow field were analyzed inside the duct.The separation onset and reattachment points were determined by the standard deviation of static pressure on the upper surface.The AIP spectral distribution showed that the boundary of low pressure and high pressure recovery regions was dominated by the maximum fluctuations.Furthermore,the PSD diagram of several probes at AIP revealed the vortex shedding frequency and its higher harmonics at separation region.The energy content of distinct unsteady spectral features in the bare configuration was significantly reduced using VGs,which showed the improvement of flow at the duct exit.Iman MAGHSOUDI Mohammad Ali VAZIRY Mostafa MAHMOODI 2020Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2020,33,5:2
