| 1 | Cardiotoxicity of 5-fluorouracil and capecitabine in Chinese patients: a prospective study显示文摘Background:5-Fluorouracil(5-FU)and capecitabine-associated cardiotoxicity ranging from asymptomatic electro-cardiography(ECG)abnormalities to severe myocardial infarction has been reported in a number of studies,but such cardiotoxicity in Chinese patients with malignant diseases has not been investigated to date.In the present study,we aimed to prospectively evaluate the incidence rates and clinical manifestations of 5-FU-and capecitabine-associated cardiotoxicity in cancer patients recruited from multiple centers in China.Methods:Among the 527 patients who completed the study,196 received 5-FU-based chemotherapy and 331 received capecitabine-based chemotherapy as either first-line or adjuvant therapy.Adverse events were reported during the treatment and up to 28 days of follow-up.Outcome measures included ECG,myocardial enzymes,cardiac troponin,brain natriuretic peptide and echocardiography.Univariate analysis and logistic regression were performed for subgroup analysis and identification of significant independent variables that are associated with cardiotoxicity of both agents.Results:In total,161 of 527 patients(30.6%)experienced cardiotoxicity.The incidence rate of cardiotoxicity was 33.8%(112/331)in the capecitabine group,which was significantly higher than the rate of 25%(49/196)in the 5-FU group(P=0.0042).110/527 patients(20.9%)suffered arrhythmia,105/527(19.9%)developed ischemic changes,while only 20/527 patients(3.8%)presented heart failure and 6/527 patients(1.1%)had myocardial infarction.Pre-existing cardiac disease,hypertension,capecitabine-based chemotherapy and duration of treatment were identified as sig-nificant risk factors associated with cardiotoxicity.The odds ratio were 15.7(prior history of cardiac disease versus no history),1.86(capecitabine versus 5-FU),1.06(5-8 versus 1-4 chemotherapy cycles)and 1.58(hypertension versus no hypertension),respectively.Conclusions:Cardiotoxicity induced by fluoropyrimidines in the Chinese population may be underestimated in clini-cal practice.Close monitoring of patients is recommended,especially for those patients at high risk for cardiotoxicity.Possible risk factors are duration of treatment,capecitabine-based chemotherapy,pre-existing cardiac diseases and hypertension.Trial registration This study was initiated on January 22,2014 and has been retrospectively registered with the registra-tion number ChiCTR1800015434 . | Jianjun Peng Chao Dong Chang Wang Weihua Li Hao Yu Min Zhang Qun Zhao Bo Zhu Jun Zhang Wenliang Li Fenghua Wang Qiong Wu Wenhao Zhou Ying Yuan Meng Qiu Gong Chen | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 23 |
| 2 | Polychlorinated biphenyls in the atmosphere of Taizhou,a major e-waste dismantling area in China显示文摘PM2.5,total suspended particles(TSP) and gas phase samples were collected at two sites of Taizhou,a major e-waste dismantling area in China.Concentrations,seasonal variations,congener profiles,gas-particle partitioning and size distribution of the atmospheric polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs) were studied to assess the current state of atmospheric PCBs after the phase out of massive historical dismantling of PCBs containing e-wastes.The average 38PCBs concentration in the ambient air(TSP plus gas phase) near the e-waste dismantling area was(12,407 ± 9592) pg/m3 in winter,which was substantially lower than that found one decade ago.However,the atmospheric PCBs level near the e-waste dismantling area was 54 times of the reference urban site,indicating that the impact of the historical dismantling of PCBs containing e-wastes was still significant.Tri-Penta-CBs were dominant homologues,consisting with their dominant global production.Size distribution of particle-bound PCBs showed that higher chlorinated CBs tended to partition more to the fine particles,facilitating its long range air transportation. | Wenliang Han Jialiang Feng Zeping Gu Minghong Wu Guoying Sheng Jiamo Fu | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,4: | 18 |
| 3 | Cotton GhMYB7 is predominantly expressed in developing fibers and regulates secondary cell wall biosynthesis in transgenic Arabidopsis显示文摘The secondary cell wall in mature cotton fibers contains over 90%cellulose with low quantities of xylan and lignin.However,little is known regarding the regulation of secondary cell wall biosynthesis in cotton fibers.In this study,we characterized an R2R3-MYB transcription factor,Gh MYB7,in cotton.Gh MYB7 is expressed at a high level in developing fibers and encodes a MYB protein that is targeted to the cell nucleus and has transcriptional activation activity.Ectopic expression of Gh MYB7 in Arabidopsis resulted in small,curled,dark green leaves and also led to shorter inflorescence stems.A cross-sectional assay of basal stems revealed that cell wall thickness of vessels and interfascicular fibers was higher in transgenic lines overexpressing Gh MYB7 than in the wild type.Constitutive expression of Gh MYB7 in Arabidopsis activated the expression of a suite of secondary cell wall biosynthesis-related genes(including some secondary cell wall-associated transcription factors),leading to the ectopic deposition of cellulose and lignin.The ectopic deposition of secondary cell walls may have been initiated before the cessation of cell expansion.Moreover,Gh MYB7 was capable of binding to the promoter regions of At SND1 and At Ces A4,suggesting that Gh MYB7 may function upstream of NAC transcription factors.Collectively,these findings suggest that Gh MYB7 is a potential transcriptional activator,which may participate in regulating secondary cell wall biosynthesis of cotton fibers. | Junfeng Huang Feng Chen Siyu Wu Juan Li Wenliang Xu | 2016 | Science China(Life Sciences)2016,59,2: | 15 |
| 4 | Diurnal variations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons associated with PM_(2.5) in Shanghai, China显示文摘Forty-eight daily time interval PM2.5 samples were collected from December 2006 to January 2008 in an urban site in Shanghai, China. Concentrations and compositions of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were analyzed with GC-MS to study the diurnal and seasonal variations and to identify the main emitting sources. The diurnal variation of the PAHs concentrations was greater in the late autumn and winter sampling days, and was greatly influenced by meteorological conditions such as wind speed and ambient temperature. The concentration of PAHs in the mornings (6:30-10:00) increased distinctly, and was high in the late autumn and winter sampling days, indicating the contribution from vehicle emissions during rush hours. The diurnal variation of the high molecular weight PAHs did not seem to be controlled by the shift of gas-particle partitioning due to temperature variation, instead, it could be indicative of the variation in the source. Statistical analyses showed that the concentrations of PAHs were negatively correlated with temperature and wind speed, and positively correlated with relative humidity. | 8 | Payments for watershed ecosystem services:mechanism,progress and challenges显示文摘Introduction:Payment for watershed ecosystem services(PWES),a policy instrument for compensating for the externality of watershed ecosystem/environmental services,has gained in policy importance in China over the past two decades.Many scholars and researchers have contributed to the conceptualization of this policy framework by developing operational mechanisms as well as compensation standards for PWES.Outcomes:This article reviews 27 PWES schemes piloted in China and in 10 other countries,with a particular emphasis on successful cases of land-use conversion programs,such as the Paddy Land to Dry Land Program and Sloping Land Conversion Program that have been implemented in China.Discussion:By comparing different cases,the authors attempt to answer the following questions:what were the ecological and institutional contexts in which these schemes were established and how did they work?What were the actual efficiencies and impacts of these piloted schemes?Which scheme worked better in certain ecological,socio-economic,and institutional contexts?Conclusion:Based on case studies,the authors draw the following conclusions about Chinese PWES:(1)to establish an acceptable standard for a PWES program,it is necessary to estimate the economic and social costs regarding the livelihoods of households;(2)multistakeholder negotiation mechanism for PWES,including intermediaries,such as the local government,NGO/NPOs,village committees,and user associations,should be used;(3)ES,non-market services,should acquire positive externalities to accomplish an optimal win–win pattern concerning both environmental goals and the livelihoods of local resource users. | Danyang Feng Wenliang Wu Long Liang Li Li Guishen Zhao | 2018 | Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2018,4,1: | 2 |

| 15 | CO_(2)emission and source partitioning from carbonate and non-carbonate soils during incubation显示文摘The accurate quantification and source partitioning of CO_(2)emitted from carbonate(i.e.,Haplustalf)and non-carbonate(i.e.,Hapludult)soils are critically important for understanding terrestrial carbon(C)cycling.The two main methods to capture CO_(2)released from soils are the alkali trap method and the direct gas sampling method.A 25-d laboratory incubation experiment was conducted to compare the efficacies of these two methods to analyze CO_(2)emissions from the non-carbonate and carbonate-rich soils.An isotopic fraction was introduced into the calculations to determine the impacts on partitioning of the sources of CO_(2)into soil organic carbon(SOC)and soil inorganic carbon(SIC)and into C3 and/or C4 plant-derived SOC.The results indicated that CO_(2)emissions from the non-carbonate soil measured using the alkali trap and gas sampling methods were not significantly different.For the carbonate-rich soil,the CO_(2)emission measured using the alkali trap method was significantly higher than that measured using the gas sampling method from the 14 th day of incubation onwards.Although SOC and SIC each accounted for about 50%of total soil C in the carbonate-rich soil,SOC decomposition contributed 57%–72%of the total CO_(2)emitted.For both non-carbonate and carbonate-rich soils,the SOC derived from C4 plants decomposed faster than that originated from C3 plants.We propose that for carbonate soil,CO_(2)emission may be overestimated using the alkali trap method because of decreasing CO_(2)pressure within the incubation jar,but underestimated using the direct gas sampling method.The gas sampling interval and ambient air may be important sources of error,and steps should be taken to mitigate errors related to these factors in soil incubation and CO_(2)quantification studies. | Yi ZHAO Roland BOL Zhaoan SUN Yuping ZHUGE Xiaoxia SHI Wenliang WU Fanqiao MENG | 2022 | Pedosphere2022,32,3: | 1 |
