| 1 | Entropy analysis in electrical magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) flow of nanofluid with effects of thermal radiation,viscous dissipation,and chemical reaction显示文摘The unsteady mixed convection flow of electrical conducting nanofluid and heat transfer due to a permeable linear stretching sheet with the combined effects of an electric field, magnetic field, thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, and chemical reaction have been investigated. A similarity transformation is used to transform the constitutive equations into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations.The resultant system of equations is then solved numerically using implicit finite difference method.The velocity, temperature, concentration, entropy generation, and Bejan number are obtained with the dependence of different emerging parameters examined. It is noticed that the velocity is more sensible with high values of electric field and diminished with a magnetic field. The radiative heat transfer and viscous dissipation enhance the heat conduction in the system. Moreover, the impact of mixed convection parameter and Buoyancy ratio parameter on Bejan number profile has reverse effects. | 3 | Design and development of novel bioadhesive niosomal formulation for the transcorneal delivery of anti-infective agent:In-vitro and ex-vivo investigations显示文摘Gatifloxacin eye drops are frequently used in eye infections.However such formulations have a major drawback i.e.short duration of action and usually require 4e6 times installations daily.A chitosan coated niosomal formulation of gatifloxain was purposed to show a longer retention time on eyes and subsequent reduction in dosing frequency.Vesicles were prepared by solvent injection method using cholesterol and Span-60.An extensive optimization of formulation was done using different ratios of cholesterol,Span-60 and drug,revealed NS60-5(cholesterol:span-6050:50 and drug content of 20 mg)to be the optimized niosome formulation.NS60-5 had shown a highest entrapment efficiency of 64.9±0.66%with particle size 213.2±1.5 nm and zeta potential34.7±2.2 mV.Optimized niosomes were also coated with different concentrations of chitosan and evaluated.Permeation studies had revealed that optimized niosomes(86.77±1.31%)had increased the transcorneal permeation of Gatifloxacin more than two fold than simple drug solution(37.19±1.1%).Longer retention potential of the coated niosomes was further verified by fluorescence microscopy.Study revealed that simple dye solution got easily washed out with in 6 h.The uncoated niosomes(NS60-5)showed a longer retention(more than 6 h),which was further enhanced in case of coated niosomes i.e.CNS60-1(more than 12 h).Antimicrobial studies had shown the better efficacy of CNS60-1(zone of inhibition)when compared to marketed formulation.The final chitosan formulation was found to have shown better ocular tolerability as demonstrated by corneal hydration test histopathology investigations. | Yahaya Zubairu Lalit Mohan Negi Zeenat Iqbal Sushama Talegaonkar | 2015 | Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences2015,10,4: | 4 |
| 4 | Zeylanicobdella arugamensis,the marine leech from cultured crimson snapper (Lutjanus erythropterus),Jerejak Island,Penang,Malaysia显示文摘Objective:To investigate the prevalence,phylogenetics and DNA barcoding of Zeylanicobdella arugamensis(Z.arugamensis) from crimson snapper(Lutjanus erythropterus),Jerejak Island,Penang,Malaysia.Methods:Experiment was conducted with 200 fish specimens of cultured Lutjanus erythropterus from Jerejak Island,Penang,Peninsular Malaysia.The water temperature and length for each fish were measured prior to parasites examination.Next,the morphological identification of parasites was performed.Genomic DNA from parasites was extracted for further molecular analysis.After PCR amplification,phylogenetic tree was constructed.The lowest Bayesian information criterion scores showed that the most compatible model is Tajima and Nei.Finally,data sets of cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene sequence and trace file have been submitted to Barcode of Life Data System.Results:The prevalence rate of Z.arugamensis was recorded to be 11.5%,and the intensity was 1.48.The low intensity was due to the water temperature recorded in this study(32.9–33.2 C).All the individuals of Z.arugamensis recorded in this study showed a close relationship with species that were recorded in NCBI database(Z.arugamensis DQ414344,Aestabdella leiostomi DQ414305,Pterobdella amara DQ414334 and Cystobranchus meyeri DQ414315) but less relationship with Aestabdella abditovesiculata DQ414300.Finally,the DNA sequences submitted to Barcode of Life Data System in accordance to species have already obtained Barcode Index Number as BOLD:ACM3477.Conclusions:This study has provided an overview of sequence divergence at cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene,DNA barcodes and parasite prevalence of Z.arugamensis. | Rajiv Ravi Zary Shariman Yahaya | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2017,7,5: | 3 |
| 5 | Therapeutic effects of menstrual blood-derived endometrial stem cells on mouse models of streptozotocin-induced type 1 diabetes显示文摘BACKGROUND Type 1 diabetes(T1D),a chronic metabolic and autoimmune disease,seriously endangers human health.In recent years,mesenchymal stem cell(MSC)transplantation has become an effective treatment for diabetes.Menstrual bloodderived endometrial stem cells(MenSC),a novel MSC type derived from the decidual endometrium during menstruation,are expected to become promising seeding cells for diabetes treatment because of their noninvasive collection procedure,high proliferation rate and high immunomodulation capacity.AIM To comprehensively compare the effects of MenSC and umbilical cord-derived MSC(UcMSC)transplantation on T1D treatment,to further explore the potential mechanism of MSC-based therapies in T1D,and to provide support for the clinical application of MSC in diabetes treatment.METHODS A conventional streptozotocin-induced T1D mouse model was established,and the effects of MenSC and UcMSC transplantation on their blood glucose and serum insulin levels were detected.The morphological and functional changes in the pancreas,liver,kidney,and spleen were analyzed by routine histological and immunohistochemical examinations.Changes in the serum cytokine levels in the model mice were assessed by protein arrays.The expression of target proteins related to pancreatic regeneration and apoptosis was examined by western blot.RESULTS MenSC and UcMSC transplantation significantly improved the blood glucose and serum insulin levels in T1D model mice.Immunofluorescence analysis revealed that the numbers of insulin+and CD31+cells in the pancreas were significantly increased in MSC-treated mice compared with control mice.Subsequent western blot analysis also showed that vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),Bcl2,Bcl-xL and Proliferating cell nuclear antigen in pancreatic tissue was significantly upregulated in MSC-treated mice compared with control mice.Additionally,protein arrays indicated that MenSC and UcMSC transplantation significantly downregulated the serum levels of interferonγand tumor necrosis factorαand upregulated the serum levels of interleukin-6 and VEGF in the model mice.Additionally,histological and immunohistochemical analyses revealed that MSC transplantation systematically improved the morphologies and functions of the liver,kidney,and spleen in T1D model mice.CONCLUSION MenSC transplantation significantly improves the symptoms in T1D model mice and exerts protective effects on their main organs.Moreover,MSC-mediated angiogenesis,antiapoptotic effects and immunomodulation likely contribute to the above improvements.Thus,MenSC are expected to become promising seeding cells for clinical diabetes treatment due to their advantages mentioned above. | Yu-Liang Sun Ling-Rui Shang Rui-Hong Liu Xin-Yi Li Sheng-Hui Zhang Ya-Kun Ren Kang Fu Hong-Bin Cheng Badrul Hisham Yahaya Yan-Li Liu Jun-Tang Lin | 2022 | World Journal of Stem Cells2022,14,1: | 2 |
| 6 | Characterization of cobalt ferrite-supported activated carbon for removal of chromium and lead ions from tannery wastewater via adsorption equilibrium显示文摘In this experiment,cobalt ferrite-supported activated carbon(CF-AC)was developed and characterized via the wet impregnation method for the removal of Cr and Pb(II)ions from tannery wastewater.Batch adsorption was carried out to evaluate the effect of experimental operating conditions(pH of solution,contact time,adsorbent dose,and temperature),and the removal efficiencies of Cr and Pb(II)ions by the developed adsorbents were calculated and recorded for all experimental conditions.These variables were estimated and reported as removal efficiencies of 98.2%for Cr and 96.4%for Pb(II)ions at the optimal conditions of 5,0.8 g,80 min,and 333 K for pH,adsorbent dose,contact time,and temperature,respectively.The equilibrium for the sorption of Cr and Pb(II)ions was studied using four widely used isotherm models(the Langmuir,Freundlich,Dubinin-Radushkevich,and Temkin isotherm models).It was found that the Freundlich isotherm model fit better with the coefficient of determination(R2)of 0.9484 and a small sum of square error of 0.0006.The maximum adsorption capacities(Qm)of Pb(II)and Cr adsorbed onto CF-AC were determined to be 6.27 and 23.6 mg/g,respectively.The adsorption process conformed well to pseudo-second order kinetics as revealed by the high R2 values obtained for both metals.The thermodynamic parameters showed that adsorption of Cr and Pb(II)ions onto CF-AC was spontaneous,feasible,and endothermic under the studied conditions.The mean adsorption energy(E)values revealed that the adsorption mechanism of Cr and Pb(II)by CF-AC is physical in nature.The results of the study showed that adsorbent developed from CF-AC can be efficiently used as an environmentally friendly alternative adsorbent,for removal of Cr and Pb(II)ions in tannery wastewater. | Muibat Diekola Yahya Kehinde Shola Obayomi Mohammed Bello Abdulkadir Yahaya Ahmed Iyaka Adeola Grace Olugbenga | 2020 | Water Science and Engineering2020,13,3: | 2 |
