| 1 | Oral health status in Sichuan Province: findings from the oral health survey of Sichuan, 2015–2016显示文摘To investigate oral health status in the residents of Sichuan Province, southwest China, a cross-sectional study was performed using the latest Oral Health Survey Basic Methods recommended by the World Health Organization. A multistage stratified random cluster-sampling method was used to enroll participants from the following three groups: children aged 3–5 years,adolescents aged 12 years, and people aged 65–74 years. In these three groups, the mean numbers of teeth that were affected by caries were 3.28, 0.86 and 5.13, respectively, resulting in a prevalence of 63.47%, 37.20% and 83.20%, respectively.Relative to the high rate of decayed teeth, the prevalence of fillings was very low in all age groups(0.97%, 7.24% and 5.43%,respectively). In the 12-year-old adolescent group, only 3.61% had good pit and fissure sealing. In addition, the rate of dental fluorosis was 24.80%, and the Community Fluorosis Index value was 0.39. In the elder group, the community periodontal index was2.92. The prevalence in the elderly of having lost at least one tooth was 75.54%. Additionally, 4.44% of these participants were edentulous. The incidence of dental prosthesis was 51.75%, the proportion with a removable partial denture, a fixed denture, full dentures, dental implants and an informal fixed bridge was 21.59%, 11.45%, 4.64%, 0 and 16.67%, respectively. In this study,8.2% of the elderly participants were affected by different types of oral mucosal lesions. Among such lesions, recurrent aphthous ulcers were most prevalent(2.69%) and oral lichen planuses were second(1.6%). The conclusion presented in this survey is that oral diseases, especially dental caries and periodontal disease, are frequent and common in Sichuan province, China. | 2 | BMI, WC, WHtR, VFI and BFI: Which Indictor is the Most Efficient Screening Index on Type 2 Diabetes in Chinese Community Population显示文摘Objective Obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, many indexes can be used to describes obesity and predict diabetes. This research attempts to identify the best indicator of obesity to screening diabetes in Chinese population. Methods A cross-sectional data of 8121 subjects aged 35-60 years were included in this research belongs to the Diabetes Appropriate Technology Intervention Study. Anthropometric indicators including body weight, height, waist circumferences (WC), body fat index (BFI) and visceral fat index (VFI) and blood biochemical indicators after an overnight fast [fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and triacylglycerol] were measured. BMI (body mass index) and Weight to Height Ratio was calculated. Results Subjects with obesity had a higher risk of physician diagnosed diabetes (OR=2.50, 95% CI 1.83-3.43), new diagnosed diabetes (OR=4.23, 95% CI 2.91-6.15) and pre-diabetes (OR=1.75, 95% CI 1.31-2.34) compared to those with normal Body mass index (BMI). There was a significant trend of increased risk of all diabetes status with increased waist circumference (WC). The waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) yielded the most significant association with new diagnosed diabetes and physician diagnosed diabetes than other indices. Conclusion Central obesity is significantly correlated with diabetes. | 3 | Portosplenomesenteric vein thrombosis in patients with early-stage severe acute pancreatitis显示文摘AIM To investigate the incidence and risk factors of portosplenomesenteric vein thrombosis(PSMVT) in the early stage of severe acute pancreatitis(SAP).METHODS Patients with SAP in a tertiary care setting from January 2014 to December 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. All contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT) studies were reassessed and reviewed. Clinical outcome measures were compared between SAP patients with and without PSMVT in the early stage of the disease. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were sequentially performed to assess potential risk factors for the development of PSMVT in SAP patients. A receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve was generated for the qualifying independent risk factors.RESULTS Twenty-five of the one hundred and forty(17.86%) SAP patients developed PSMVT 6.19 ± 2.43 d after acute pancreatitis(AP) onset. PSMVT was confirmed by contrast-enhanced CT. Multivariate stepwise logistic regression analyses showed that Balthazar's CT severity index(CTSI) scores [odds ratio(OR): 2.742; 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.664-4.519; P = 0.000], hypoalbuminemia(serum albumin level < 25 g/L)(OR: 32.573; 95%CI: 2.711-391.353; P = 0.006) and gastrointestinal wall thickening(OR: 4.367, 95%CI: 1.218-15.658; P = 0.024) were independent risk factors for PSMVT developed in patients with SAP. | 4 | Effect of thermomechanical treatment on microstructure and properties of Cu-Cr-Zr-Ag alloy显示文摘The effects of thermomechanical treatment on the properties and microstructure of Cu-Cr-Zr alloy and Cu-Cr-Zr-Ag alloy were investigated. Ag addition improves the mechanical properties of the alloy through solid solution strengthening and brings a little effect on the electrical conductivity of the alloy. A new Cu-Cr-Zr-Ag alloy was developed, which has an excellent combination of the tensile strength, elongation, and electrical conductivity reaching 476.09 MPa, 15.43% and 88.68% IACS respectively when subjected to the optimum thermomechanical treatment, i.e., solution-treating at 920°C for 1 h, cold drawing to 96% deformation, followed by aging at 400°C for 3 h. TEM analysis re-vealed two kinds of finely dispersed precipitates of Cr and Cu4Zr. | 5 | Effect of Lycium barbarum Polysaccharides on the expression of endothelin-1 and its receptors in an ocular hypertension model of rat glaucoma显示文摘Lycium barbarum, a traditional Chinese anti-aging herb, has been shown to protect retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) in a rat chronic ocular hypertension (COH) model. Here, we investigated the expression of endothelin-1 (ET-1), a strong vasoconstrictor, and its receptors, ETA and ETB, in the COH model and assessed the effects of Lycium barbarum on the ET-1 axis. Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) was induced in the right eye of SD rats using argon laser photocoagulation. (1) The expression of ET-1, ETA and ETB in normal and COH retinas was studied. (2) Some COH rats were fed daily with Lycium barbarum Polysaccharides (LBP) using 1 mg/kg or phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) for 3 weeks (started 1 week before photocoagulation). The effects of LBP on the expression of ET-1 and its receptors, ETA and ETB, in COH retina were evaluated. A semi-quantitative analysis of staining intensity was used to evaluate the expression levels of ET-1, ETA and ETB in retinal vasculature. We found that (1) Under COH condition, the immunoreactivity of ET-1 was increased in retina associated with an increase of ETB receptor immunoreactivity and a decrease of ETA receptor immunoreactivity. (2) After feeding COH rats with LBP, the expression of ET-1 was decreased with an increase of ETA expression and a decrease of ETB expression in the retina, especially in RGCs. (3) By comparing the staining intensity in the vasculature of COH retina in LBP-fed group with PBS-fed group, there was a decrease in the expression of ET-1 and ETA and an increase in ETB. In summary, ET-1 expression was up-regulated in the retina in COH model. LBP could decrease the expression of ET-1 and modulate the expression of its receptors, ETA and ETB, under the condition of COH. | 6 | Lycium barbarum polysaccharides related RAGE and Aβ levels in the retina of mice with acute ocular hypertension and promote maintenance of blood retinal barrier显示文摘Our previous study verified the protective effects of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides(LBP)on retinal neurons and blood vessels in acute ocular hypertension(AOH)mice.To investigate the effect of LBP on the reactivity of retinal glial cells,an AOH mouse model was established in one eye by maintaining ocular hypertension of 90 mm Hg for 60 minutes.Either LBP solution(1 mg/kg)or phosphate-buffered saline was administrated to the mice by gavage daily,starting 7 days before the AOH insult and continuing until the mice were sacrificed for specimen collection on day 4 post-insult.After AOH insult,increased numbers of astrocytes and microglia were observed,together with decreased expression of the following glial cell biomarkers in the retinal ganglion cells of AOH mice:glial fibrillary acidic protein,glutamine synthetase,aquaporin-4,S-100 proteins,ionized calcium-binding adaptor molecule 1,amyloid precursor protein and receptor of advanced glycosylation end-products.After intervention with LBP,the above changes were significantly reduced.Remarkably,morphological remodeling of blood vessel-associated retinal astrocytes,marked by glial fibrillary acidic protein,was also observed.These results,taken together,suggest that LBP regulated the production of amyloid-βand expression of receptor of advanced glycosylation end-products,as well as mediating the activity of retinal glial cells,which may lead to the promotion of better maintenance of the blood-retinal barrier and improved neuronal survival in AOH insult.This study was approved by the Committee for the Use of Live Animals in Teaching and Research(approval No.CULTRA-#1664-08). | Xue-Song Mi Qian Feng Amy Cheuk Yin Lo Raymond Chuen-Chung Chang Sookja Kim Chung Kwok-Fai So | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,12: | 8 |
| 7 | Acellular ostrich corneal stroma used as scaffold for construction of tissue-engineered cornea显示文摘AIM:To assess acellular ostrich corneal matrix used as a scaffold to reconstruct a damaged cornea.· METHODS:A hypertonic saline solution combined with a digestion method was used to decellularize the ostrich cornea.The microstructure of the acellular corneal matrix was observed by transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and hematoxylin and eosin(H&E) staining.The mechanical properties were detected by a rheometer and a tension machine.The acellular corneal matrix was also transplanted into a rabbit cornea and cytokeratin 3 was used to check the immune phenotype.·RESULTS:The microstructure and mechanical properties of the ostrich cornea were well preserved after the decellularization process.In vitro,the methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium results revealed that extracts of the acellular ostrich corneas(AOCs) had no inhibitory effects on the proliferation of the corneal epithelial or endothelial cells or on the keratocytes.The rabbit lamellar keratoplasty showed that the transplanted AOCs were transparent and completely incorporated into the host cornea while corneal turbidity and graft dissolution occurred in the acellular porcine cornea(APC) transplantation.The phenotype of the reconstructed cornea was similar to a normal rabbit cornea with a high expression of cytokeratin 3 in the superficial epithelial cell layer.· CONCLUSION:We first used AOCs as scaffolds to reconstruct damaged corneas.Compared with porcine corneas,the anatomical structures of ostrich corneas are closer to those of human corneas.In accordance with the principle that structure determines function,a xenograft lamellar keratoplasty also confirmed that the AOC transplantation generated a superior outcome compared to that of the APC graft. | Xian-Ning Liu Xiu-Ping Zhu Jie Wu Zheng-Jie Wu Yong Yin Xiang-HuaXiao Xin Su Bin Kong Shi-Yin Pan Hua Yang Yan Cheng Na An Sheng-Li Mi | 2016 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,3: | 6 |

| 10 | Degradation of 2,2′,4,4′-tetrabromodiphenyl ether by Pycnoporus sanguineus in the presence of copper ions显示文摘The degradation of 2,2′,4,4′-tetrabromodiphenyl ether(BDE-47) by Pycnoporus sanguineus was investigated in order to explore the impact of the heavy metal Cu2+ on BDE-47 decomposition and the subsequent formation of metabolites, as well as to further elucidate the degradation mechanism of BDE-47. An increase in degradation rate from 18.63% to49.76% in the first four days and its stabilization at(51.26 ± 0.08)% in the following days of BDE-47 incubation were observed. The presence of Cu2+ at 1 and 2 mg/L was found to promote the degradation rate to 56.41% and 60.79%, respectively, whereas higher level of Cu2+(≥ 5 mg/L) inhibited the removal of BDE-47. The similar concentration effects of Cu2+ was also found on contents of fungal protein and amounts of metabolites. Both intracellular and extracellular enzymes played certain roles in BDE-47 transportation with the best degradation rate at 27.90% and 27.67% on the fourth and third day, individually. During the degradation of BDE-47, four types of hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers(OH-PBDEs), i.e., 6′-OH-BDE-47, 5′-OH-BDE-47, 4′-OH-BDE-17, 2′-OH-BDE-28, and two bromophenols, i.e., 2,4-DBP and 4-BP were detected and considered as degradation products. | 11 | Effects of electrode configuration on electroslag remelting process of M2 high-speed steel ingot显示文摘The electrode configuration determines the thermophysical field during the electroslag remelting(ESR) process and affects the final microstructure of the ingot. In this work, ingot with a diameter of 400 mm was prepared with two electrode configuration modes of single power ESR process, namely one electrode(OE) and two series-connected electrodes(TSCE). Finite element simulation was employed to calculate the electromagnetic field, flow field and temperature field of the ESR system. The results show that the temperature of the slag pool and the metal pool of the TSCE process is lower and more uniform than that of the OE process.The calculated temperature distribution of the ingot could be indirectly verified from the shape of the metal pool by the experiment. The experimental results show that the depth of the metal pool in the OE ingot is about 160 mm, while the depth of the TSCE ingot is nearly 40 mm shallower than that of the OE ingot. Microstructural comparisons indicate that coarse eutectic carbides are formed in the center of the OE ingot, whereas more even eutectic carbides appear in the center of the TSCE ingot. | 15 | Abdominal Obesity and Its Attribution to All-cause Mortality in the General Population with 14 Years Follow-up:Findings from Shanxi Cohort in China显示文摘Objective This study aimed to assess the association of waist circumference(WC)with all-cause mortality among Chinese adults.Methods The baseline data were from Shanxi Province of 2002 China Nutrition and Health Survey.The death investigation and follow-up visit were conducted from December 2015 to March 2016.The visits covered up to 5,360 of 7,007 participants,representing a response rate of 76.5%.The Cox regression model and floating absolute risk were used to estimate hazard ratio and 95%floating CI of death by gender and age groups(≥60 and<60 years old).Sensitivity analysis was performed by excluding current smokers;participants with stroke,hypertension,and diabetes;participants who accidentally died;and participants who died during the first 2 years of follow-up.Results This study followed 67,129 person-years for 12.5 years on average,including 615 deaths.The mortality density was 916 per 100,000 person-years.Low WC was associated with all-cause mortality among men.Multifactor-adjusted hazard ratios(HR)were 1.60(1.35–1.90)for WC<75.0 cm and 1.40(1.11–1.76)for WC ranging from 75.0 cm to 79.9 cm.Low WC(<70.0 cm and 70.0–74.9 cm)and high WC(≥95.0 cm)groups had a high risk of mortality among women.The adjusted HRs of death were 1.43(1.11–1.83),1.39(1.05–1.84),and 1.91(1.13–3.22).Conclusion WC was an important predictor of death independent of body mass index(BMI).WC should be used as a simple rapid screening and predictive indicator of the risk of death. | ZHAI Yi REN Ze Ping ZHANG Mei ZHANG Jian JIANG Yong MI Sheng Quan WANG Zhuo Qun ZHAO Yan Fang SONG Peng Kun YIN Zhao Xue ZHAO Wen Hua | 2020 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,4: | 2 |
| 16 | Luteolin delays photoreceptor degeneration in a mouse model of retinitis pigmentosa显示文摘Luteolin is neuroprotective for retinal ganglion cells and retinal pigment epithelial cells after oxidative injury,whereby it can inhibit microglial neurotoxicity.Therefore,luteolin holds the potential to be useful for treatment of retinal diseases.The purpose of this study was to investigate whether luteolin exhibits neuroprotective effects on rod cells in rd10 mice,a slow photoreceptor-degenerative model of retinitis pigmentosa.Luteolin(100 mg/kg)intraperitoneally injected daily from postnatal day 14(P14)to P25 significantly enhanced the visual performance and retinal light responses of rd10 mice at P25.Moreover,it increased the survival of photoreceptors and improved retinal structure.Mechanistically,luteolin treatment attenuated increases in reactive oxygen species,photoreceptor apoptosis,and reactive gliosis;increased mRNA levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines while lowering that of pro-inflammatory and chemoattractant cytokines;and lowered the ratio of phospho-JNK/JNK.Application of the JNK inhibitor SP600125 exerted a similar protective effect to luteolin,suggesting that luteolin delays photoreceptor degeneration and functional deterioration in rd10 mice through regulation of retinal oxidation and inflammation by inhibiting the JNK pathway.Therefore,luteolin may be useful as a supplementary treatment for retinitis pigmentosa.This study was approved by the Qualified Ethics Committee of Jinan University,China(approval No.IACUC-20181217-02)on December 17,2018. | Xiao-Bin Liu Feng Liu Yi-Yao Liang Gang Yin Hui-Jun Zhang Xue-Song Mi Zai-Jun Zhang Kwok-Fai So Ang Li Ying Xu | 2021 | Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,10: | 2 |

The combustion process in blunt annular ceramic burner was calculated by using the software. The profiles of gas and air velocity, temperature of the combustion products, concentration of the components, and the shape and length of the flame during combustion have been researched .
