Towards an Artificial Intelligence Framework for Data-Driven Prediction of Coronavirus Clinical Severity显示文摘The virus SARS-CoV2,which causes the Coronavirus disease COVID-19 has become a pandemic and has spread to every inhabited continent.Given the increasing caseload, there is an urgent need to augment clinical skills in order to identify from among the many mild cases the few that will progress to critical illness. We present a first step towards building an artificial intelligence(AI)framework, with predictive analytics(PA)capabilities applied to real patient data,to provide rapid clinical decision-making support.COVID-19 has presented a pressing need as a)clinicians are still developing clinical acumen given the disease’s novelty, and b)resource limitations in a rapidly expanding pandemic require difficult decisions relating to resource allocation. The objectives of this research are:(1)to algorithmically identify the combinations of clinical characteristics of COVID-19 that predict outcomes,and(2)to develop a tool with AI capabilities that will predict patients at risk for more severe illness on initial presentation. The predictive models learn from historical data to help predict specifically who will develop acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS),a severe outcome in COVID-19.Our experimental results based on two hospitals in Wenzhou,Zhejang,China identify features most predictive of ARDS in COVID-19 initial presentation which would not have stood out to clinicians.A mild increase in elevated alanine aminotransferase(ALT)(a liver enzyme)),a presence of myalgias(body aches),and an increase in hemoglobin,in this order, are the clinical features,on presentation, that are the most predictive. Those two centers’COVID-19 case series symptoms on initial presentation can help predict severe outcomes.Predictive models that learned from historical data of patients from two Chinese hospitals achieved 70%to 80%accuracy in predicting severe cases.Xiangao Jiang Megan Coffee Anasse Bari Junzhang Wang Xinyue Jiang Jianping Huang Jichan Shi Jianyi Dai Jing Cai Tianxiao Zhang Zhengxing Wu Guiqing He Yitong Huang 2020Computers, Materials & Continua2020,,4:15
Towards an Esox lucius inspired multimodal robotic fish显示文摘In this paper, we further explore multimodal locomotion via an updated robotic fish model based on Esox lucius. Besides the improved actuation properties like higher torque servomotors and powerful electronics, the robotic fish has some innovative mechanical design to pursue diverse swimming modes and superior performance. Specifically, we introduced a ±50° yawing head joint that functions as the neck for enhancing turning ability. A pair of pectoral mechanisms with two DOFs per fin is constructed to achieve 3-D swimming and to enrich multiple pectoral motions. At the control level, an improved central pattern generator(CPG) model allowing for free adjustment of the phase relationship among outputs is employed to produce rhythmic signals of multimodal swimming. Extensive experiments were carried out to examine how characteristic parameters in CPGs including amplitude, frequency, and phase lag affect the swimming performance. As a result, the robotic fish successfully performed various locomotion actions such as forward swimming, backward swimming, turning, diving, surfacing, as well as three pectoral motions in the form of pitching, heaving, and heaving-pitching.We found that small phase lag between oscillating joints which means large propulsive body wave length and undulation width could lead to a faster swimming in body and/or caudal fin(BCF) locomotion.WU ZhengXing YU JunZhi SU ZongShuai TAN Min LI ZhenLong 2015Science China(Information Sciences)2015,58,5:11
Investigation of stability of a tunnel in a deep coal mine in China显示文摘Stability level of tunnels that exist in an underground mine has a great influence on the safety, production and economic performance of mines.Ensuring of stability for soft-rock tunnels is an important task for deep coal mines located in high in situ stress conditions.Using the available information on stratigraphy, geological structures,in situ stress measurements and geo-mechanical properties of intact rock and discontinuity interfaces,a three-dimensional numerical model was built by using 3DEC software to simulate the stress conditions around a tunnel located under high in situ stress conditions in a coal rock mass in China.Analyses were conducted for several tunnel shapes and rock support patterns. Results obtained for the distribution of failure zones, and stress and displacement felds around the tunnel were compared to select the best tunnel shape and support pattern to achieve the optimum stability conditions.Kulatilake P.H.S.W. 6Development and path planning of a novel unmanned surface vehicle system and its application to exploitation of Qarhan Salt Lake显示文摘Qarhan Salt Lake is rich in mineral resources, such as sodium chloride, potassium, and magnesium [1]. At present, liquid mine exploiting is the main exploitation form for the Qarhan Salt Lake. Salt mining ships with mining equipments are widely used to exploit carnallite which is located at the bottom of pools. Conventionally, workmen utilize rude ferric sampler to collect carnallite samples and estimate their thickness, providing guidance to the salt mining ship [2]. However, the turbid brine and uneven carnallite reduce the efficiency of exploitation, which could no longer meet the rapid mining requirements.Zhibin XUE Jincun LIU Zhengxing WU Sheng DU Shihan KONG Junzhi YU 2019Science China(Information Sciences)2019,62,8:8

Junction and Evolution of the Qinling,Qilian and Kunlun Orogenic Belts显示文摘As the main part of the 'central mountain system' in the continent of China, the Qinling, Qilian and Kunlun orogenic belts have been comprehensively and deeply studied since the 1970s and rich fruits have been reaped. However, these achievements were mostly confined to an individual orogenic belt and the study of the mutual relationship among the three orogenic belts was obliged to depend on comparative studies. Different views were produced therefrom. The material composition and structural features of the junction region show that there are several epicontinental and intracontinental transform faults developed in different periods. Restricted by these transform faults, the large-scale lateral movements and, as a consequence, complicated magrnatism and tectonic deformation took place in the orogenic belts. According to these features, the authors put forward a three-stage junction and evolution model and point out that there is not a single junction zone traversing from west to east but that theSUN Yangui CHEN Zhengxing LIU Yong’an WANG Tongqing ZHANG Zhiyong 2000Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2000,74,2:6
Rock burst risk evaluation based on equivalent surrounding rock strength显示文摘On-site investigations consistently show that the rock burst inherent to coal seams varies greatly with coal seam thickness. In this study, impact factors related to coal seam thickness and surrounding rock strength were analyzed and a corresponding rock burst risk assessment method was constructed. The model reflects the influence of coal seam thickness on the stress distribution of surrounding rock at the roadway.Based on the roadway excavation range,a stress distribution model of surrounding roadway rock is established and the influence of coal seam thickness on rock burst risk is analyzed accordingly. The proposed rock burst risk assessment method is based on the equivalent surrounding rock strength and coal seam bursting liability. The proposed method was tested in a 3500 mining area to find that it yields rock burst risk assessment results as per coal seam thickness that are in accordance with real-world conditions. The results presented here suggest that coal seam thickness is a crucial factor in effective rock burst risk assessment.Jinglin Wen Husheng Li Fuxing Jiang Zhengxing Yu Haitao Ma Xiaolin Yang 2019International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2019,29,4:6
Seismic behavior of precast concrete coupled shear walls with engineered cementitious composite (ECC) in the critical cast-in-place regions显示文摘The seismic performance of precast reinforced concrete(RC) coupled shear walls is significantly influenced by coupling beams and the beam-to-wall joints during large deformations into plastic ranges. This study investigated the use of engineered cementitious composite(ECC) in the cast-in-place beam-to-wall joints and the upper regions of the composite coupling beams as an innovative method to improve the seismic performance of precast RC coupled shear walls. Two 1/2-scale precast coupled shear walls were tested under reversed cyclic loading and seismic behavior in terms of failure characteristic, mechanical characteristic value,load-displacement hysteresis curves,load-displacement envelope relationship, stiffness degradation, ductility and energy dissipation capacity were evaluated.Research results show that the substitution of concrete with ECC in the critical cast-in-place regions proved to be an effective method to improve the seismic performance of the two-story spatial of precast RC coupled shear walls.YANG Jian LIANG ShuTing ZHU XiaoJun SUN ChongFang GUO ZhengXing 2017Science China(Technological Sciences)2017,60,8:6

Fault-Tolerant Control of a CPG-Governed Robotic Fish显示文摘Fault tolerance is essential for the maneuverability of self-propelled biomimetic robotic fish in real-world aquatic applications. This paper explores the fault-tolerance control problem of a free-swimming robotic fish with multiple moving joints and a stuck tail joint. The created control system is composed of two main components:a feedback controller and a feedforward compensator.Specifically, the bio-inspired central pattern generator-based feedback controller is designed to make the robotic fish robust to external disturbances, while the feedforward compensator speeds up the convergence of the overall control system.Simulations are performed for control system analysis and performance validation of the faulty robotic fish. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed fault-tolerant control method is able to effectively regulate the faulty robotic fish, allowing it to complete the desired motion in the presence of damage and thereby improving both the stability and the lifetime of the real robotic system.Yueqi Yang Jian Wang Zhengxing Wu Junzhi Yu 2018Engineering2018,4,6:5

Flood and Waterlogging Monitoring over Huaihe River Basin by AMSR-E Data Analysis显示文摘In this paper, we investigated the potential of Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for Earth Observation System (AMSR-E) for flood monitoring. The proposed approach was based on the polarized ratio index (PRI), which was computed by using AMSR-E data at 37GHz, vertically and horizontally polarized brightness temperature values and the water surface fraction (WSF) got by using the PRI at 37GHz. Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrora-diometer (MODIS) data were used to validate the WSF values. The analysis of flood and waterlogging using the WSF map on July 6, 2003 indicates that the use of WSF for flood and waterlogging disaster assessment is feasible. Utilizing the correlation of WSF derived from AMSR-E and water area derived from MODIS, the water area of the Huaihe River Basin were computed by only using AMSR-E data in the summer of 2003, which overcame the influence of cloud on water estimation using MODIS data during flood.ZHENG Wei LIU Chuang XIN Zhongbao WANG Zhengxing 2008Chinese Geographical Science2008,18,3:4
Effects of casting process on microstructures and flow stress behavior of Mg-9Gd-3Y-1.5Zn-0.8Zr semi-continuous casting billets显示文摘Mg-9Gd-3Y-1.5Zn-0.8Zr alloys own high strength, good heat and corrosion resistance. However,it is difficult for the fabrication of large-scale billets, due to the poor deformation ability and strong hot-crack tendency. This work investigated the casting process on the microstructures and flow stress behaviors of the semi-continuous casting billets for the fabrication of large-scale Mg-9Gd-3Y-1.5Zn-0.8Zr billets. The casting process(electromagnetic intensity and casting speed)shows outstanding effects on the microstructures and flow stress behavior of the billets. The billets with the specific casting process(I=68 A,V=65 mm/min)exhibit uniform microstructures and good deformation uniformity.Xuan liu Qichi Le Zhiqiang Zhang Lei Bao Zhengxing Fan Jianzhong Cui 2014Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2014,2,4:3
Microbiome and ileum transcriptome revealed the boosting effects of selenium yeast on egg production in aged laying hens显示文摘The declines in laying performance during the late productionperiod have adverse effects on the length of theproduction cycle. Improving the nutrition of laying hens is a crucialmeasure to reverse this declination. Thisstudy investigatedthe effect of seleniumyeast (SY)on egg production, ileal gene expressionandmicrobiota, aswell as elucidating their associations in aged laying hens. A total of 375 Jinghong laying hens at 76weeks oldwere randomly assigned into 5 dietary treatments, which included a selenium-deficient basal diet based oncorn-soybean meal, and dietary supplementation of SY at 0.15, 0.30 and 0.45 mg/kg, and sodium selenite at0.45mg/kg.The results showed that SYamelioratedthe depressionin aged layingperformance inthe 0.30mg/kg group (P < 0.01). Selenium yeast significantly increased ileum selenium concentration (P < 0.05), and SYgroups had higher seleniumdeposition efficiency than the sodiumselenite group. Functional enrichment andShort Time-series Expression Miner (STEM) analysis indicated that SY activated metabolic progress (e.g.,glycerolipidmetabolism, glycerophospholipidmetabolism, andfattyacidmetabolism),immune responseandoxidative stress response. Four hub genes including thioredoxin reductase 1 (TXNRD1), dihydrolipoamidedehydrogenase (DLD), integrin linked kinase (ILK) and leucine zipper tumor suppressor 2 (LZTS2) wereinvolved in intestinal metabolismwhich was closely associated with selenium deposition/status. Moreover, the relative abundance of Veillonella, Turicibacter and Lactobacillus was significantly increased, but the relativeabundance of Stenotrophomonas was significantly decreased by SY supplementation. Multi-omics dataintegration and Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) showed that both the ileumselenium content andthe laying rate were highly correlated with pathways and bacteria enriched in metabolism and immuneresponse. Meanwhile, the “switched on” gene prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA) had a positive relationshipwith Veillonella and a negative relationship with the opportunistic pathogens Stenotrophomonas. Overall, ourstudy offered insight for the further exploration of the role of SY on boosting egg production and balancingileum intestinal flora in aged laying hens.Zhexi Liu Yutao Cao Yue Ai Xiaonan Yin Linli Wang Mengyao Wang Bingkun Zhang Zhengxing Lian Keliang Wu Yuming Guo Hongbing Han 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,3:3
Hydrodynamic Analysis and Verification of an Innovative Whale Shark-like Underwater Glider显示文摘This paper presents an innovative design for a biomimetic whale shark-like underwater glider aiming at the combination of high maneuverability and long duration. As a hybrid of the underwater glider and the robotic fish, its pectoral fins and tail can serve as not only the external control surfaces for attitude regulation during gliding but also the propellers for agile fish-like swimming mode.To verify the gliding capability of the whale shark-like glider and prepare for future dynamic analysis, the hydrodynamic coefficients, including drag, lift, sliding force, and corresponding moments are estimated through computational fluid dynamics method. In addition, the hydrodynamic analyses of the proposed glider and an equivalent conventional glider during steady gliding motion are executed for comparison.Extended experiments are performed to verify the downward gliding performance. The results reveal that the whale shark-like glider has less drag as well as higher lift-to-drag ratio and a markable gliding capability in practice. It may offer important inspiration for improving the gliding efficiency and performance of an underwater glider in biomimetic shape design.Huijie Dong Zhengxing Wu Min Tan Junzhi Yu 2020Journal of Bionic Engineering2020,17,1:3
The impact of fluorination on both donor polymer and non-fullerene acceptor:The more fluorine, the merrier显示文摘Fluorination of the donor polymer or non-fullerene acceptor (NFA) in an organic photovoltaic device is an effective method to improve device efficiency.Although there have been many studies on donor polymer fluorination, blends containing both a fluorinated donor and fluorinated NFA have rarely been reported. In this study,we use two donor polymers (4'-FT-HTAZ and 4'-FT-FTAZ) and two NFAs (ITIC-Th and ITIC-Th1) with different amounts of fluorine (from 2F to 6F) to investigate how the degree of fluorination in a blend impacts device performance. We find that fluorinating the NFA leads to a higher short-circuit current density (Jsc) and fill factor (FF),however, the open-circuit voltage (Voc) is decreased due to a depressed lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level.Adding additional fluorine to the donor polymer does not have a large effect on the Jsc or FF,but it does lead to an improved Voc.By fluorinating the NFA and having more fluorine on the donor polymer,we obtain both a high Jsc and Voc simultaneously, leading to a power conversion efficiency over 10% in the case of 4'-FT-FTAZ:ITIC-Th1,which has the most amount of fluorine (6F).Nicole Bauer Qianqian Zhang Jeromy James Rech Shuixing Dai Zhengxing Peng Harald Ade Jiayu Wang Xiaowei Zhan Wei You 2019Nano Research2019,12,9:3
