The crustal structure under Sanjiang and its dynamic implications:Revealed by seismic reflection/refraction profile between Zhefang and Binchuan,Yunnan显示文摘The fault belts in Sanjiang mainly include Jinshajiang-Honghe fault, Lancangjiang fault and Nujiang fault (called Sanjiang faults) in western Yunnan Province, China. By interpreting the wide-angle seismic reflection/refraction profile between Zhefang and Binchuan, which crosses Tengchong and Baoshan blocks in Dianxi (western Yunnan) tectonic zone, we recon- struct the crustal structure with seismic traveltime tomography for crustal P-wave velocity and the seismic scattering image for crustal seismic reflection structure. In this paper, we firstly present the crustal structure images of P-wave velocity and seismic reflection under the wide-angle seismic profile. These results demonstrate that, the crustal velocity structure and seismic reflec- tion structure along the profile can be divided into 3 segments, and there is an obvious difference of crustal structure among the eastern, the western and the middle segment. Generally, crustal P-wave velocities in the Baoshan segment are 0.1―0.2 km/s slower and seismic reflection am- plitudes from Moho discontinuity are stronger than the other 2 segments. In the studied area, crustal thickness is about 40 km, and shows the thickening tendency from west to east along the profile. Additionally, it can be seen that there is one strong-amplitude seismic reflection event as bright points at the depths of 8―10 km, along the segment of 80―115 km of the profile (south- ward of Tengchong); and seismic reflection wave-field from Moho discontinuity varies obviously along the lateral direction. Finally, we make some discussions on the crustal thickening pattern in the Sanjiang fault belt, structural environment of earthquake development and the contact rela- tionship between the Tengchong block, Banshan block and Luxi trough.ZHANG Zhongjie1, BAI Zhiming1, WANG Chunyong2, TENG Jiwen1, Lü Qingtian3, LI Jiliang1, LIU Yifeng1 & LIU Zhenkuan4 1. 2Crustal structure of Gondwana-and Yangtze-typed blocks:An example by wide-angle seismic profile from Menglian to Malong in western Yunnan显示文摘The wide-angle seismic profile between Menglian and Malong crosses the Baoshan block (Gondwana-typed), and Simao and southwestern Yangtze blocks (Yangtze-typed). By in-terpreting the wide-angle seismic data, we obtained the seismic crust/upper mantle structure of P-wave velocities together with the seismic reflections of these three blocks, Changning- Menglian and Mojiang suture zones among the mentioned three blocks. Our interpreting results demonstrate that the P-wave crustal velocity of Simao block is slower than that of Baoshan and southwestern Yangtze block and the crustal thickness gradually thickens from the Baoshan block, Simao to southwestern Yangtze block. Crustal reflection patterns of these three blocks have dis-tinct differences too. For the Gondwana-typed blocks, seismic reflections in the upper crust are well developed while in middle-lower crust they are very weak. The crustal reflections in the Yangtze block are very well developed. The crustal reflection patterns in Simao and southwest-ern Yangtze blocks are distinguishable. The average thickness of the crust in the studied area is about 40 km. And we make some discussions on the crustal thickening model of the three blocks in western Yunnan and tectonic setting of seismic developing and interaction of Gondwana and Yangtze blocks.ZHANG Zhongjie1, BAI Zhiming1, WANG Chunyong2, TENG Jiwen1, Lü Qingtian3, LI Jiliang1, SUN Shanxue1 & WANG Xinzheng1 1. 3Modelling of multi-bodies in close proximity under water waves——Fluid resonance in narrow gaps显示文摘Viscous fluid model and potential flow model with and without artificial damping force(f=-μV,μ the damping coefficient and V the local averaging flow velocity) are employed in this work to investigate the phenomenon of fluid resonance in narrow gaps between multi-bodies in close proximity under water waves. The numerical results are compared with experimental data available in the literature. The comparison demonstrates that both the viscous fluid model and the potential flow model are able to predict the resonant frequency reasonably well. However the conventional potential flow model(without artificial damping term) significantly over-predicts the wave height in narrow gaps around the resonant frequency. In order to calibrate the appropriate damping coefficient used for the potential model and make it work as well as the viscous fluid model in predicting the resonant wave height in narrow gaps but with little computational efforts, the dependence of damping coefficient μ on the body geometric dimensions is examined considering the parameters of gap width Bg,body draft D,body breadth ratio Br and body number n(n = 2,3),where Br = BB/BA for the case of two bodies(Body A and Body B) with different breadths of BA and BB,respectively. It was confirmed that the damping coefficient used for the potential flow model is not sensitive to the geometric dimensions and spatial arrangement. It was found that μ∈ [0.4,0.5] may guarantee the variation of Hg/H0 with kh to be generally in good agreement with the experimental data and the results of viscous fluid model, where Hg is the excited wave height in narrow gaps under various dimensionless incident wave frequencies kh,H0 is the incident wave height,k = 2π/L is the wave number and h is the water depth.LU Lin1,2,TENG Bin3,CHENG Liang 4,SUN Liang5 & CHEN XiaoBo6 1 Center for Deepwater Engineering,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 2 State Key Laboratory of Structural Analysis for Industrial Equipment,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 3 State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 4 School of Civil and Resource Engineering,The University of Western Australia,Crawly 6003,Australia 5 Centre for Offshore Research and Engineering,Department of Civil Engineering,National University of Singapore,117576,Singapore 6 Research Department,Bureau Veritas,Neuilly-Sur-Seine,92570,France 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,1:29
Clinical and experimental study on regional administration of phosphorus32 glassmicrospheres in treating hepatic carcinoma显示文摘AIM To study the therapeutical effectiveness, dosage range and toxic adverse effects of domestic phosphorus 32 glass microsphere and evaluate its clinical significance. METHODS Ⅰ. Fifty two BALB/*!c tumor bearing male nude mice were allocated into treatment group( n =38) and control group( n =14). In the former group different doses of 32 P GMS were injected into the tumor mass, while in the latter 31 P GMS or no treatment was given. The experimental animals were sacrificed in batches, and then the tumors and their nearby tissues were examined by light and electron microscopy. Ⅱ. Through selective catheterization of hepatic artery, 32 P GMS was infused to 5 healthy domestic pigs in a dosage equivalent to the therapeutic dose for human being, and 31 P GMS was infused to another 5 healthy domestic pigs. Two pigs infused with contrast medium served as whole course blank controls. One pig from each group was surrendered to euthanasia at week 1, 4, 8 and 16 respectively. The ultrastructural histopath ological changes in liver tissues taken from different sites were evaluated semiquan titatively. Ⅲ. One hundred and twenty seven times of 32 P GMS intrahepatic artery interventional therapies were performed on 93 patients with hepatic carcinoma, including 79 cases of primary hepatic carcinoma and 14 cases of secondary hepatic carcinoma. 32 P GMS ( n =30), and group B, 32 P GMS and half dose of trans hepatic artery embolization (TAE) ( n =49) , and 18 patients with HCC by TAE only as control group C. Fourteen patients with secondary hepatic carcinoma were treated in the same way as group B or C. RESULTS Ⅰ. Comparing with the control group, the treatment group of tumor bearing nude mice attained the tumor inhibition rates of 59 7%-93 7% ( F =579 62, P <0 01) at 14*!d . At an absorbed dose of 7320Gy, the tumor cells were completely destroyed. When the absorbed doses ranged from 1830Gy to 3660Gy, most of the tumor cells showed the evidences of injury or necrosis, but there appeared some well differentiated tumor cells and enhanced effect of the autoimmunocytes. At an absorbed dose of 366Gy or less, some tumor cells still remained active proliferative ability. The definite anticancer effect appeared as early as 3d after intratumoral injection of 32 P GMS. Ⅱ. The cumulative amount of 32 P GMS in the target tissue after trans hepatic artery instillation attained more than 90% of the total dose administrated. Semiquantitative analysis of ultrastructral morphology in the experimental group showed no statistical difference between the nuclear abnormality (N abn ) and mitochondrial variability (M var ) at week 1 or 2, but revealed prominent difference (χ 2=6 70-9 68, P <0 01 , χ 2=65 09-115 09, P <0 001 ) as compared with those in the other groups. In the experimental group the N abn in tissues showed no significant difference between week 8 and week 16. No apparent changes were found in the stomach, spleen, kidney and lung tissues of the experimental pigs. Ⅲ. The therapeutical results of HCC patients in group A were closely approximated to those of group C, no hematological toxic side effects were noted, and the systemic reaction was mild. In some patients 2*!mos - 3*!mos after treatment some secondary foci appeared around the periphery of the primary lesion. In general better effectiveness was obtained in patients with small lesion. After analyzing by RIDIT method, the therapeutic result in group B was significantly better than that in group C, and secondary foci around the original lesion were rarely seen at 3*!mos after treatment. In group C the collateral circulation was reestablished along the periphery of primary foci and the secondary foci appeared more frequently, and required to undergo several courses of treatment. In group B, 4 cases of HCC were treated surgically as their mass decreased in size after 32 P GMS treatment.LIU Lu, JIANG Zao, TENG Gao Jun, SONG Ji Zhi, ZHANG Dong Sheng, GUO Qing Ming, FANG Wen, HE Shi Cheng and GUO Jin He 1999World Journal of Gastroenterology1999,5,6:21
The New Form of Time-Dependent Mild Slope Equation for Random Waves显示文摘The mild-slope equation derived by Berkhoff (1972), has widely been used in the numerical calculation of refraction and diffraction of regular waves. However, it is well known that the random sea waves has a significant effect in the refraction and diffraction problems. In this paper, a new form of time-dependent mild slope equation for irregular waves was derived with Fade approximation and Kubo’s time series concept. The equation was simplified using WKB method, and simple and practical irregular mild slope equation was obtained. Results of numerical calculations are compared with those of laboratory experiments.Zhang Yonggang , Li Yucheng Teng Bin Doctor Degree Candidate, The National Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116023Professor, The National,Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116023Associate Professor, The National Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116023 1995China Ocean Engineering1995,10,4:21
Regulation of embryonic stem cell self-renewal and differentiation by TGF-β family signaling显示文摘Embryonic stem (ES) cells are characterized by their ability to indefinitely self-renew and potential to differentiate into all the cell lineages of the body. ES cells are considered to have potential applications in regenerative medicine. In particular, the emergence of an ES cell analogue-induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells via somatic cell reprogramming by co-expressing a limited number of critical stemness-related transcriptional factors has solved the problem of obtaining patient-specific pluripotent cells, encouraging researchers to develop more specific and functional cell lineages from ES or iPS cells for broad therapeutic applications. ES cell fate choice is delicately controlled by a core transcriptional network, epigenetic modification profiles and complex signaling cascades both intrinsically and extrinsically. Of these signals, transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) family members, including TGF-β, bone morphogenetic protein (BMP), Activin and Nodal, have been reported to influence cell self-renewal and a broad spectrum of lineage differentiation in ES cells, in accordance with the key roles of TGF-β family signaling in early embryo development. In this review, the roles of TGF-β family signals in coordinating ES cell fate determination are summarized.FEI Teng & CHEN Ye-Guang The State Key Laboratory of Biomembrane and Membrane Biotechnology, School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China 2010Science China(Life Sciences)2010,53,4:16
Perspectives of DNA microarray and next-generation DNA sequencing technologies显示文摘DNA microarray and next-generation DNA sequencing technologies are important tools for high-throughput genome research,in revealing both the structural and functional characteristics of genomes. In the past decade the DNA microarray technologies have been widely applied in the studies of functional genomics, systems biology and pharmacogenomics. The next-generation DNA sequencing method was first introduced by the 454 Company in 2003,immediately followed by the establishment of the Solexa and Solid techniques by other biotech companies.Though it has not been long since the first emergence of this technology, with the fast and impressive improvement, the application of this technology has extended to almost all fields of genomics research,as a rival challenging the existing DNA microarray technology. This paper briefly reviews the working principles of these two technologies as well as their application and perspectives in genome research.TENG XiaoKun1 & XIAO HuaSheng1,2 1 National Engineering Center for Biochip at Shanghai,Shanghai 201203,China 2 Shanghai-MOST Key Laboratory of Health and Disease Genomics,Chinese National Human Genome Center,Shanghai 201203,China 2009Science China(Life Sciences)2009,52,1:15
Studies on Absorption and Tansport of Limoninoids from Fructus Evodiae in Caco-2 Cell Monolayer Model显示文摘Objective To study the intestinal absorption and transepithelial transport of three limoninoids: evodol (EVO), limonin (LIM), and shihulimonin A (SHIA), isolated from Fructus Evodiae [the unripe fruit of Evodia rutaecarpa and Evodia rutaecarpa var. bodinieri] in the human intestine. Methods The in vitro cultured human colon carcinoma cell line, Caco-2 cell monolayer model, was applied to studying the absorption and transepithelial transport of the three limoninoids from apical (AP) to basolateral (BL) side and from BL to AP side. The three limoninoids were measured by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography coupled with ultraviolet absorption detector. Transport parameters and apparent permeability coefficients (Papp) were then calculated and compared with those of Propranolol as a control substance of high permeability and Atenolol as a control substance of poor permeability. Results The Papp value of EVO and LIM from AP to BL side for absorption and transport were 1.78 × 10-5 cm/s and 1.16 × 10-5 cm/s, respectively, which was comparable to that of Propranolol with Papp 2.18 × 10-5 cm/s. Conclusion The absorption and transport of both EVO and LIM are main passive diffusion as the dominating process in Caco-2 cell monolayer model, and they were estimated to be high absorbed compounds. SHIA in Caco-2 cell monolayer model may be involved in metabolism in the transport processes.YANG Xiu-wei1*, TENG Jie1, ZHAO Bo2, ZHANG Lian-xue2 1. 9The Chinese classification system compared with TNM staging in prognosis of patients with primary hepatic carcinoma after resection显示文摘BACKGROUND: The life expectancy of a patient with primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC) is hard to predict, and it is related to many prognostic factors. The Chinese classification system including five parameters: tumor, vascular thrombosis, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and Child-Pugh stage developed in 1999 was adopted by the 8th National Conference on liver Cancer of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association in 2001. In this study, the discriminatory ability of the Chinese classification system -was compared with that of the TNM staging in patients for resection of PHC, in addition to the evaluation of prognostic value. METHODS: The data of 246 patients who had undergone resection of PHC from January 1986 to December 2000 (average age, 51 years; male/female ratio, 213/33) were retrospectively studied. Among the 246 patients, 227 were followed up for at least 3 years. RESULTS: The 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-, and 10-year tumor-free survival rates were 55% , 30% , 25% , 20% and 18% , respectively. The Chinese classification system was better than the TNM staging system in predicting survival rate of patients with PHC, as confirmed by survival curves shown by the Kaplain-Meier method. The mean survival time was 155, 70, 39, 16, and 4 months in patients with die Chinese classification stages Ⅰa, Ⅰb, Ⅱa,Ⅱb, and Ⅲ, respectively. The 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-, and 10-year tumor-free survival rates of the Chinese classification system and TNM staging were statistically significant and had a slightly positive relationship. The predictive capacity of the Chinese classification system was confirmed in any two subgroups of patients undergoing operation. COX proportional hazards regression analysis showed that the Chinese classification system was the only independent prognostic factor for survival. CONCLUSIONS: Taking both tumor extension and liver function into account, we consider that the Chinese classification system making up for the deficiency of UICC TNM staging is more precise in predicting the prognosis of patients with resection of PHC.Jian-Ming Sheng, Wen-He Zhao, Fu-Sheng Wu, Zhi-Min Ma, Yi-Zheng Feng, Xing-Ren Zhou and Li-Song Teng Department of Oncological Surgery, First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou 310003 , China 2005Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2005,4,4:9
NUMERICAL SIMULATON OF IMPROVED BOUSSINESQ EQUATIONS BY A FINITE ELEMENT METHOD显示文摘The improved Boussinesq equations for varying depth derived by Beji and Nadaoka significantly improved the linear dispersive properties of wave models in intermediate water depths. In this study, a finite element method was developed to solve the improved Boussinesq equations. A spongy layer was applied at the open boundary of the computational domain to absorb the wave energy. The fourth-order predictor-corrector method was employed in the time integration. Several test cases were illustrated. The numerical results of this model were compared with laboratory data and those from other numerical models. It turns out that the present numerical model is capable of giving satisactory prediction for wave propagation.Zhao Ming, Teng Bin, Liu Shu-xue State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China 2003Journal of Hydrodynamics2003,15,4:8
Recent advances in heat shock protein-based cancer vaccines显示文摘BACKGROUND: Active immunotherapy has been successful in preventing many infectious diseases, and is being explored for its anti-tumor use. Purified antigens, peptides, gene-based systems and antigens contained in whole cells or cell lysates are used in specific active immunotherapy for cancer, known as cancer vaccines. Cancer vaccines do not directly kill tumor cells, but prime a specific humoral and/or cellular immune response against the tumor. Up to date, many kinds of cancer vaccines have been tested in the world and have shown their own advantages. Heat shock protein (HSP)-based cancer vaccine is one of the outstanding representatives. In this paper, we review recent advances in HSP-based cancer vaccines. DATA SOURCES: An English-language literature search was conducted using MEDLINE (1990-2005) on HSP, cancer vaccines and other related subjects. RESULTS: Several kinds of HSP-based cancer vaccines which have been explored worldwide, include tumor derived HSP-pepdde complex cancer vaccines, artificially reconstituted HSP-peptide complex cancer vaccines, HSPpeptide fusion protein cancer vaccines and HSP-based DNA cancer vaccines, etc. Many HSP-based cancer vaccines are being tested in clinical trials, and some are being tested in phase Ⅲ clinical trials at present. CONCLUSION: The available results in preclinical tests and clinical trials indicate that HSP-based cancer vaccines are promising in cancer therapy.Hao-Hao Wang, Chen-Yu Mao, Li-Song Teng and Jiang Cao Department of Oncology Surgery, First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou 310003, China Clinical Research Institute, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310016, China 2006Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2006,5,1:7
A Unique Solvable Higher Order BEM for Wave Diffraction and Radiation显示文摘- For the discretization of higher order elements, this paper presents a modified integral domain method to remove the irregular frequencies inherited in the integral equation of wave diffraction and radiation from a surface-piercing body. The set of over-determined linear equations obtained from the method is modified into a normal set of linear equations by superposing a set of linear equations with zero solutions. Numerical experiments have also been carried out to find the optimum choice of the size of the auxiliary domain and the discretization on it.Teng Bin and Li Yucheng Associate Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, 116024 Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, 116024 1996China Ocean Engineering1996,11,3:6
Multicentric hyaline-vascular Castleman's disease in the retroperitoneum显示文摘BACKGROUND:Castleman’s disease is a rare lymphoproliferative disease of unknown cause. Most multicentric cases described have been of the plasma-cell variety. This article presents a case of multicentric hyaline-vascular Castleman's disease in the retroperitoneum with the ultrasonographic and computed tomography(CT)imaging manifestations. METHODS:During routine physical examination,a mass was detected in the left abdomen of a 53-year-old man with no signs or symptoms. The patient underwent ultrasoundguided aspiration biopsy and operative excision after laboratory examination, ultrasonography, and CT. RESULTS:Ultrasonography demonstrated a dominant hypoechogenic mass with hypervascularity in the retroperitoneum.CT detected a relatively homogenous enhanced lesion and several satellite nodules. After the mass and several lymph nodes were resected, histopathologic examination demonstrated a lymphocytepredominant infiltrate surrounding the germinal centres and extensive capillary proliferation, consistent with the hyaline-vascular type of Castleman’s disease. The patient received postoperative chemotherapy and remained free of recurrence 3 months later. CONCLUSION:Ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced CT can provide a positive differential diagnosis of hyalinevascular Castleman’s disease which is a kind of giant lymph node hyperplasia with hypervascularity.Li-Ying Wang,Tian-An Jiang,Xiao-Dong Teng,Qi-Yu Zhao and Fen Chen Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery,Department of Ultrasonography, and Department of Pathology,First Affiliated Hospital,Zhejiang University School of Medicine,Hangzhou 310003,China 2009Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2009,8,5:5
Environmental Geochemistry of Mining Activities in Panzhihua Region, Southwestern China显示文摘Mining activities have created huge uncovered slopes, large areas of gangue ground and extensive tailings dams. This paper presents the environmental geochemistry of mining activities in Panzhihua region. The selected elements (Ti, V, Mo. Ni. Pb. Cu) show similar distribution patterns of concentration anomaly in topsoil. These concentration anomalies are located in V-Ti-magnetite slope, gangues dam and coal mine. The distinction between anthropogenic contamination and natural background is made available by the use of the enrichment factor in this study area. The anomalies of EF were smaller than that of concentration. The results from EF show that the selected elements anthropogenic pollution (EF>1) in topsoil were located in both the coal mining area and the V-Ti-magnetite mining area. In addition, the pollution sources of selected elements came from V-Ti-magnetite, slag, gangues, coal and other pollutants from mining activities.Teng Yanguo Institute of Environmental Sciences, State Key Laboratory of Water Environmental Simulation, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875 Tuo Xianguo Department of Nuclear Resources and Technology, Chengdu University of Technology, Chengdu 610059 2001Journal of China University of Geosciences2001,12,4:5
Survival factors after resection of small hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Early resection of hepatocellular carcinoma is a key measure to prolong the survival of patients. This study was designed to summarize our experience in surgical resection of small hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and to analyze the factors influencing the postoperative survival of patients. METHODS:The clinicopathologic data of 105 patients with small HCC after resection from 1986 through 2003 were analyzed ; the patients had been followed up for more than half a year (median 33 months). Nine clinicopathologic factors, preoperative α-fetoprotein (AFP) level, liver cirrhosis, Child-Pugh score, tumor size (>2cm vs.≤2 cm) and number (single vs. multiple), capsule formation, portal vein tumor thrombi (PVTT), Edmondson tumor grade and surgical method, were analyzed by the log-rank test and the Cox proportional harzards model analysis. RESULTS:The cumulative 1-,3- and 5-year survival rates after the operation were 86.5%, 70.3% and 55.2%, respectively, and the 1-, 3- and 5-year disease-free survival rates were 78%, 58. 9% and 45. 6%, respectively. One patient died from esophagogastric varices hemorrhage in 2 weeks after reoperation. Thirty-six patients had intrahepatic recurrence or metastasis postoperatively and 34 patients died. The Kaplan-Meier method and the Cox proportional harzards model analysis indicated that poor Child-Pugh score, tumor more than 2 cm in diameter, PVTT and multiple lesions (including satellitic lesions) were adverse factors affecting postoperative survival. The Cox proportional harzards model analysis indicated that tumor size, PVTT and multiple lesions were the factors influencing postoperative disease-free survival. CONCLUSIONS:Limited hepatectomy with a margin more than 1 cm is an appropriate surgical approach. Adverse preoperative Child-Pugh score and postoperative intrahepatic recurrences are the main factors leading to the death of patients with small HCC.Departments of Surgical Oncology (Wu FS, Zhao WH, Ma ZM, Teng LS and Wang M) and General Surgery ( Liang TB and Zheng SS) , First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou 310003, China 2005Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2005,4,3:5

Purification and Properties of Superoxide Dismutase(SOD) in Allium Sativum显示文摘Superoxide dismutases(SODs) were purified to homogeneity from Allium Sativum by means of ammonium sulfate precipitation and column chromatography with DEAE-cellulose(DE52) and Sephadex G-75. Based on sodium dodecyl sulfate\|polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-AGE), Allium Sativum is predicted to contain four SODs. The molecular weights of the native SODs are 41 3 kD, 37 0 kD, 35 2 kD and 31 0 kD, which consist of subunits of 20 7 kD, 18 4 kD, 17 7 kD and 15 4 kD respectively. Because of their specific sensitivity to hydrogen peroxide, cyanogens potassium and chloroform\|alcohol, the SODs in Allium Sativum appear to be Cu, Zn-SOD isoenzymes. The isoelectric analysis indicates that three of the four isoenzymes are acidic proteins with isoelectric points at pH 3 5, 3 7 and 4 0, respectively, and the fourth one is a basic protein with isoeletric point at pH 8 5.TENG Li-rong, WANG Ya-jun, WU Min, HONG Shui-sheng, CHEN Jia Meng Qing-fan and LIU Lan-ying ** College of Life Science, Jilin University, Changchun 130023, P.
