Reflective chiral meta-holography: multiplexing holograms for circularly polarized waves显示文摘By allowing almost arbitrary distributions of amplitude and phase of electromagnetic waves to be generated by a layer of sub-wavelength-size unit cells, metasurfaces have given rise to the field of meta-holography.However,holography with circularly polarized waves remains complicated as the achiral building blocks of existing meta-holograms inevitably contribute to holographic images generated by both left-handed and right-handed waves. Here we demonstrate how planar chirality enables the fully independent realization of high-efficiency meta-holograms for one circular polarization or the other.Such circular-polarization-selective meta-holograms are based on chiral building blocks that reflect either left-handed or right-handed circularly polarized waves with an orientation-dependent phase.Using terahertz waves,we experimentally demonstrate that this allows the straightforward design of reflective phase meta-holograms,where the use of alternating structures of opposite handedness yields independent holographic images for circularly polarized waves of opposite handedness with negligible polarization cross-talk. | Qiu Wang Eric Plum Quanlong Yang Xueqian Zhang Quan Xu Yuehong Xu Jiaguang Han Weili Zhang | 2018 | Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1: | 15
Three pairs of alkaloid enantiomers from the root of Isatis indigotica显示文摘Three pairs of enantiomerically pure alkaloids with diverse structure features, named isatindigoticoic acid A and epiisatindigoticoic acid A [(—)-1 and(+)-1], phaitanthrin A and epiphaitanthrin A [(—)-2 and(+)-2], and isatindopyrromizol A and epiisatindopyrromizol A [(—)-3and(+)-3], respectively, were isolated from an aqueous extract of the roots of Isatis indigotica. Racemic and scalemic mixtures of these enantiomers were separated by HPLC on a chiral semi-preparative column.Their structures including absolute configurations were determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis in conjunction with the calculation of electronic circular dichroism(ECD) spectra. The enantiomer pairs possess parent structures of 2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline-4-carboxylic acid, indolo[2,1-b]quinazolinone, and 3-thioxohexahydro-1H-pyrrolo[1,2-c]imidazol-1-one, respectively. Except for phaitanthrin A[(—)-2] which the configuration was previously undetermined, these compounds are new enantiomeric natural products. | Yufeng Liu Xiaoliang Wang Minghua Chen Sheng Lin Li Li Jiangong Shi | 2016 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2016,6,2: | 12
Spin-controlled wavefront shaping with plasmonic chiral geometric metasurfaces显示文摘Metasurfaces,as a two-dimensional(2D)version of metamaterials, have drawn considerable attention for their revolutionary capability in manipulating the amplitude, phase, and polarization of light. As one of the most important types of metasurfaces, geometric metasurfaces provide a versatile platform for controlling optical phase distributions due to the geometric nature of the generated phase profile. However,it remains a great challenge to design geometric metasurfaces for realizing spin-switchable functionalities because the generated phase profile with the converted spin is reversed once the handedness of the incident beam is switched. Here,we propose and experimentally demonstrate chiral geometric metasurfaces based on intrinsically chiral plasmonic stepped nanoapertures with a simultaneously high circular dichroism in transmission(CDT)and large cross-polarization ratio(CPR)in transmitted light to exhibit spin-controlled wavefront shaping capabilities. The chiral geometric metasurfaces are constructed by merging two independently designed subarrays of the two enantiomers for the stepped nanoaperture.Under a certain incident handedness, the transmission from one subarray is allowed, while the transmission from the other subarray is strongly prohibited. The merged metasurface then only exhibits the transmitted signal with the phase profile of one subarray, which can be switched by changing the incident handedness.Based on the chiral geometric metasurface, both chiral metasurface holograms and the spin-dependent generation of hybrid-order Poincarésphere beams are experimentally realized. Our approach promises further applications in spin-controlled metasurface devices for complex beam conversion, image processing, optical trapping, and optical communications. | Yang Chen Xiaodong Yang Jie Gao | 2018 | Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1: | 10

Electrically Programmable Terahertz Diatomic Metamolecules for Chiral Optical Control显示文摘Optical chirality is central to many industrial photonic technologies including enantiomer identifcation,ellipsometry-based tomography, and spin multiplexing in optical communications. However,a substantial chiral response requires a threedimensional constituent, thereby making the morphology highly complex to realize structural reconfguration. Moreover,an active reconfguration demands intense dosage of external stimuli that pose a major limitation for on-chip integration. Here,we report a low bias, electrically programmable synthetic chiral paradigm with a remarkable reconfguration among levorotatory, dextrorotatory, achiral, and racemic conformations.Te switchable optical activity induced by the chiral conformations enables a transmission-type duplex spatial light modulator for terahertz single pixel imaging.Te prototype delivers a new strategy towards reconfgurable stereoselective photonic applications and opens up avenues for on-chip programmable chiral devices with tremendous applications in biology, medicine, chemistry, and photonics. | Longqing Cong Prakash Pitchappa Nan Wang Ranjan Singh | 2019 | Research2019,,1: | 8
Dual-Mode Induction of Tunable Circularly Polarized Luminescence from Chiral Metal-Organic Frameworks显示文摘The general approach for fabricating solid-state materials showing circularly polarized luminescence(CPL)is still in its challenge. In this work, chiral metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)with full-color and white-color circularly polarized light emission are firstly achieved through a host-guest emitter-loading strategy.Chiral zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIFs,a class of MOFs)are fabricated by a facile and simple mixed-ligand coassembly pathway.Meantime, achiral dyes, quantum dots(QDs),and upconversion nanoparticles(UCNPs)are easily loaded into the chiral ZIFs during the synthetic process.Size-matched dyes can be solely encapsulated into the chiral cages of ZIF,resulting in induced CPL and enhanced luminescence efficiency in solid-state ZIF⊃dye composites.Large-sized QDs,after embedding into the gap of the ZIF particles, also exhibited intense CPL activity.Furthermore, through modulating the blending ratio of colored dyes or QDs in chiral ZIFs,white light-emitting ZIFs with circular polarization could be constructed in a solid state. In addition, through loading rare earth element-based upconversion nanoparticles(UCNPs)into chiral ZIFs,upconverted CPL(UC-CPL)could be achieved with a high dissymmetry factor(glum). Thus, various achiral luminophores were endowed with CPL upon coupling with chiral ZIFs,which significantly deepened and enlarged the research scope of the chiroptical materials in a solid state. | Tonghan Zhao Jianlei Han Xue Jin Minghao Zhou Yan Liu Pengfei Duan Minghua Liu | 2020 | Research2020,,1: | 8
Synthesis of Chiral β-Lactams by Pd-Catalyzed Enantioselective Amidation of Methylene C(sp3)-H Bonds显示文摘A Pd(Ⅱ)-catalyzed enantioselective intramolecular amidation of both benzylic and unbiased methylene C(sp^3)-H bonds for the straightforward synthesis of chiral B-lactams from aliphatic carboxamides is reported. The combination of 2 prinylisopropyl(PIP)auxiiary with 3,3′-subtituted BINOL ligands is crucial for the enhancement of both reactivity and enantiocontrol of differentiating unbiased meth-ylene C(sp^3)-H bonds. The desired chemoselective C-N reductive elimination was achieved by employing 2-fluoro-1-iodo-4-nitrobenzene as oxidant. | Tao Zhou Meng-Xue Jiang Xu Yang Qiang Yue Ye-Qiang Han Yi Ding Bing-Feng Shi | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Chemistry2020,38,3: | 7
Chiral plasmonics and enhanced chiral light-matter interactions显示文摘Chirality, which describes the broken mirror symmetry in geometric structures, exists macroscopically in our daily life as well as microscopically down to molecular levels. Correspondingly, chiral molecules interact differently with circularly polarized light exhibiting opposite handedness(left-handed and right-handed). However, the interaction between chiral molecules and chiral light is very weak. In contrast, artificial chiral plasmonic structures can generate 'super-chiral' plasmonic near-field, leading to enhanced chiral light-matter(or chiroptical) interactions. The 'super-chiral' near-field presents different amplitude and phase under opposite handedness incidence, which can be utilized to engineer linear and nonlinear chiroptical interactions. Specifically,in the interaction between quantum emitters and chiral plasmonic structures, the chiral hot spots can favour the emission with a specific handedness. This article reviews the state-of-the-art research on the design, fabrication and chiroptical response of different chiral plasmonic nanostructures or metasurfaces. This review also discusses enhanced chiral light-matter interactions that are essential for applications like chirality sensing, chiral selective light emitting and harvesting. In the final part, the review ends with a perspective on future directions of chiral plasmonics. | Wei Du Xinglin Wen Davy Gerard Cheng-Wei Qiu Qihua Xiong | 2020 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2020,63,4: | 6
Atroposelective Synthesis of 3,3'-Bisindoles Bearing Axial and Central Chirality:Using Isatin-Derived Imines as Electrophiles显示文摘An atroposelective synthesis of a new class of 3,3'-bisindoles bearing axial and central chirality has been established via catalytic asymmetric addition reactions using isatin-derived imines as electrophiles(23 examples,up to 80% yield,>95:5 do 98:2 er). This approach takes advantage of chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed dynamic kinetic resolution of 2-substituted 3,3'-bisindoles via nucleophilic addition of such substrates with isatin-derived imines. In this approach,isatin-derived imines acted as a class of competent electrophiles due to their high reactivity and bulky size, which provided an easy access to axially chiral 3,3'-bisindoles incorporated with a biologically important chiral 3-aminooxindole unit. This approach has greatly expanded the generality and applicability of the strategy of dynamic kinetic resolution for the synthesis of enantioenriched 3,3'-bisindole derivatives bearing both axial and central chirality. | Feng-Tao Sheng Zhi-Min Li Yi-Zhu Zhang Li-Xing Sun Yu-Chen Zhang Wei Tan Feng Shi | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Chemistry2020,38,6: | 6

Resolution of α-cyclohexyl-mandelic acid enantiomers by two-phase (O/W) recognition chiral extraction显示文摘This paper presents a new chiral separation technology: two-phase (O/W) recognition chiral extraction. Distribution behavior of α-cyclohexyl-mandelic acid enantiomers was studied in the extraction system with D(L)-isobutyl tartrate in 1,2-dichloroethane organic phase and β-CD derivatives in aqueous phase, and the influence of the kind and concentration of extractant and pH on extraction performance was investigated. The experimental results indicate that two-phase (O/W) recognition chiral extraction is of strong chiral separation ability. HP-β-CD, HE-β-CD and Me-β-CD have higher recognition ability for S-CHMA than that for R-CHMA, among which HP-β-CD has the strongest ability; whereas, D-isobutyl tartrate has reversed recognition ability for them. In the extraction system containing HP-β-CD and D-isobutyl tartrate, e.e.% of S-CHMA in aqueous phase reached 27.6% by one stage extraction, and the distribution ratio for R-CHMA(kR) and for S-CHMA(kS) and separation factor (α) are 2.44, 0.89 and 2.49, respectively. Meanwhile, pH and concentration of extractant have great effects on chiral separation ability. Two-phase (O/W) recognition chiral extraction has great significance for preparative separation of racemic compounds. | TANG KeWen1,2, ZHANG GuoLi2, HUANG KeLong2, LI Yuanjian3 & YI JianMin1,2 1 Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hunan Institute of Science and Technology, Yueyang 414000, China 2 College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Central South University, Changsha 410083, China 3 College of Pharmaceutical Science, Central South University, Changsha 410078, China | 2007 | Science China Chemistry2007,50,6: | 5
Oxidation controlled lift-off of 3D chiral plasmonic Au nano-hooks显示文摘Colloidal suspensions of plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) are a well-established tool for biomedical applications and enhanced spectroscopy because of their strong optical response. The specific response is greatly dependent on the NP shape. The strong optical activity of chiral NPs has created special interest but fabrication of chiral NPs in solution remains challenging. Here,we present an approach whereby three-dimensional (3D) chiral Au nano-hooks,fabricated with the parallel hole-mask colloidal lithography (HMCL) method, can be lifted off from a glass substrate in a controllable manner by using a combined treatment with oxygen plasma oxidation and a reduction step in solution. This method has the advantage of being based on established techniques and not requiring strong acids or complex substrates as in etching based approaches. We furthermore demonstrate the integration of the hook NPs into reversibly cross-linked hydrogels inspired by mussel catechol chemistry but containing an oxidation resistant catechol analogue grafted onto poly(allylamine) crosslinked by coordination of Al^3+ and how this facilitates the remote analysis of hydrogel microenvironment,e.g.the water content. The suspended particles are promising candidates for optically active surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS),asymmetric photo catalysis or aggregation sensing. The integration into hydrogels to produce functional hydrogels holds benefits for applications of metamaterials in optics, sensing or activation in environmental remediation or drug delivery. | Gunnar Klos Amanda Andersen Matteo Miola Henrik Birkedal Duncan S. | 16 | Estimation of the chiral magnetic effect considering the magnetic field response of the QGP medium显示文摘The magnetic field plays a major role in searching for the chiral magnetic effect in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. If the lifetime of the magnetic field is too short, as predicted by simulations of the field in vacuum, the chiral magnetic effect will be largely suppressed. However, the lifetime of the magnetic field will become longer when the QGP medium response is considered. We give an estimate of the effect, especially considering the magnetic field response of the QGP medium, and compare it with the experimental results for the background-subtracted correlator H at RHIC and LHC energies. The results show that our method explains the experimental results better at the top RHIC energy than at the LHC energy. | 冯笙琴 艾鑫 裴蕾 孙飞 钟洋 殷中宝 | 2018 | Chinese Physics C2018,42,5: | 4
Spiral Field Generation in Smith-Purcell Radiation by Helical Metagratings显示文摘Moving electrons interacting with media can give rise to electromagnetic radiations and has been emerged as a promising platform for particle detection, spectroscopies, and free-electron lasers. In this letter,we investigate the Smith-Purcell radiation from helical metagratings, chiral structures similar to deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA),in order to understand the interplay between electrons, photons, and object chirality.Spiral feld patterns can be generated while introducing a gradient azimuthal phase distribution to the induced electric dipole array at the cylindrical interface.Experimental measurements show efcient control over angular momentum of the radiated feld at microwave regime, utilizing a phased electromagnetic dipole array to mimic moving charged particles.Te angular momentum of the radiated wave is determined solely by the handedness of the helical structure, and it thus serves as a potential candidate for the detection of chiral objects. Our fndings not only pave a way for design of orbital angular momentum free-electron lasers but also provide a platform to study the interplay between swif electrons with chiral objects. | Liqiao Jing Zuojia Wang Xiao Lin Bin Zheng Su Xu Lian Shen Yihao Yang Fei Gao Min Chen Hongsheng Chen | 2019 | Research2019,,1: | 4

Chiral carbon dots:synthesis, optical properties, and emerging applications显示文摘Carbon dots are luminescent carbonaceous nanoparticles that can be endowed with chiral properties, making them particularly interesting for biomedical applications due to their low cytotoxicity and facile synthesis. In recent years, synthetic efforts leading to chiral carbon dots with other attractive optical properties such as two-photon absorption and circularly polarized light emission have flourished. We start this review by introducing examples of molecular chirality and its origins and providing a summary of chiroptical spectroscopy used for its characterization. Then approaches used to induce chirality in nanomaterials are reviewed. In the main part of this review we focus on chiral carbon dots, introducing their fabrication techniques such as bottom-up and top-down chemical syntheses, their morphology, and optical/chiroptical properties. We then consider emerging applications of chiral carbon dots in sensing, bioimaging, and catalysis, and conclude this review with a summary and future challenges. | Aaron Doring Elena Ushakova Andrey L.Rogach | 2022 | Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,4: | 4
Novel polymer system for molecular imprinting polymer against amino acid derivatives显示文摘Molecular imprinting polymers (MIPs) against N-Cbz-L-Tyr were prepared utilizing different polymer systems and evaluated in HPLC mode. It was found that MEP utilizing cocktail functional monomers, acrylamide + 2-vinylpyridine showed better molecular recognition and better separation ability for the template molecule than those utilizing other functional monomers. MIP utilizing trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate as cross-linker showed higher load capacity and separation factor than those utilizing ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linker. Increasing the concentration of competing solvent, acetic acid weakened the ionic interaction and hydrogen bonding between the analyte and the functional monomers, 2-vinylpyridine and acrylamide, when the template enantiomer was separated by HPLC. Therefore increasing of the concentration of acetic acid leads to decreasing of capacity factor, separation factor and resolution. | 王进防 周良模 刘学良 王清海 朱道乾 | 2000 | Chinese Journal of Chemistry2000,18,4: | 4
