Seismic damage-cracking analysis of arch dams using different earthquake input mechanisms显示文摘In this study, a nonlinear model is presented for analysis of damage-cracking behavior in arch dams during strong earthquakes using different seismic input mechanisms. The nonlinear system includes a plastic-damage model for cyclic loading of concrete considering strain softening and a contact boundary model of contraction joint opening. Two different earthquake input mechanisms are used for comparison, including massless foundation input model and viscous-spring boundary model considering radiation damping due to infinite canyon. The results demonstrate that effects of seismic input mechanism and radiation damping on nonlinear response and damage-cracking of the dam are significant. Compared with the results of using massless foundation input model, the damage-cracking region and contraction joint opening are substantially reduced when using viscous-spring boundary model to take into account radiation damping. However, if the damping ratio of the dam is artificially increased to about 10%―15% for massless foundation input model, the joint opening and damage-cracking of the dam are comparable to the results obtained from the viscous-spring boundary model.JianWen Pan ChuHan Zhang JinTing Wang YanJie Xu 2009Science China(Technological Sciences)2009,52,2:18
THE EXISTENCE AND UNIQUENESS OF SOLUTION FOR A CLASS OF STOCHASTIC FUNCTIONAL EQUAFIONS ON S.P.SPACE显示文摘This paper is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of solution for a class of stochastic functional equation: X =φ(X), where φ: B → B and B is a Banach space consisted of all left-continuous, (■_t)-adapted processes. Also, the main result is applied to some S.D.E (or S.I.E.). And the authors adopted some of the results in current research in the models of stochastic control recently. This paper proves the ekistence and uniquence and uniqueness of solution for stochastic functional equation. A series of corollaries are deduced from the special examples of the theorems in this paper.刘坤会 秦明达 陆传赉 2001Acta Mathematica Scientia2001,21,3:10
Metformin attenuates motility, contraction, and fibrogenic response of hepatic stellate cells in vivo and in vitro by activating AMP-activated protein kinase显示文摘AIM To investigate the effect of metformin on activated hepatic stellate cells(HSCs) and the possible signaling pathways involved. METHODS A fibrotic mouse model was generated by intraperitoneal injection of carbon tetrachloride(CCl_4) and subsequent treatment with or without metformin. The level of fibrosis was detected by hematoxylin-eosin staining, Sirius Red staining, and immunohistochemistry. The HSC cell line LX-2 was used for in vitro studies. The effect of metformin on cell proliferation(CCK8 assay),motility(scratch test and Transwell assay), contraction(collagen gel contraction assay), extracellular matrix(ECM) secretion(Western blot), and angiogenesis(ELISA and tube formation assay) was investigated. We also analyzed the possible signaling pathways involved by Western blot analysis.RESULTS Mice developed marked liver fibrosis after intraperitoneal injection with CCl_4 for 6 wk. Metformin decreased the activation of HSCs, reduced the deposition of ECM, and inhibited angiogenesis in CCl_4-treated mice. Platelet-derived growth factor(PDGF) promoted the fibrogenic response of HSCs in vitro, while metformin inhibited the activation, proliferation, migration, and contraction of HSCs, and reduced the secretion of ECM. Metformin decreased the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in HSCs through inhibition of hypoxia inducible factor(HIF)-1α in both PDGF-BB treatment and hypoxic conditions, and it down-regulated VEGF secretion by HSCs and inhibited HSC-based angiogenesis in hypoxic conditions in vitro. The inhibitory effects of metformin on activated HSCs were mediated by inhibiting the Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin(m TOR) and extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK) pathways via the activation of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK).CONCLUSION Metformin attenuates the fibrogenic response of HSCs in vivo and in vitro, and may therefore be useful for the treatment of chronic liver diseases.Zhen Li Qian Ding Li-Ping Ling Ying Wu Dong-Xiao Meng Xiao Li Chun-Qing Zhang 2018World Journal of Gastroenterology2018,24,7:10
Freezing osteoblast cells attached to hydroxyapatite discs and glass coverslips: Mechanisms of damage显示文摘Damage mechanisms for osteoblast cells (OBs) attached to hydroxyapatite (HA) discs and glass coverslips were comprehensively investigated. Cell-cell, cell-matrix interaction altered the cryobiological properties of cells. Attached cells were sub- ject to more severe mechanical damage than isolated cells because attached cells had larger contacting area with ice and the three dimensional movements of iso- lated cells made them more flexible than attached cells that could only deform in one dimension. Results showed that the viability of attached OB cells decreased significantly compared with the viability of isolated OB cells under the same cryo- preservation procedure. Extracellular ice, differential thermal contraction, and mechanical stresses were the major damaging factors for OB cells attached to HA discs and glass coverslips.McGRATH John 2007Science China(Technological Sciences)2007,50,2:9
Rapid bilateral anterior capsule contraction following high myopic cataract surgeries:a case report显示文摘·We describe a rapid anterior capsule contraction following phacoemulsifiction and intraocular lens(IOL) implantation in an old woman with high myopia. The patient with high myopia complicated with cataract received phacoemulc-ification and IOL implantation bilaterally. The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) improved from 0.1 to 0.4 in the right eye and 0.5 in the left eye 1 week after surgeries.5 weeks after surgery of the right eye and 4 weeks after surgery of the left eye,the patient complained blurred vision in the right eye.BCVA of the right eye was 0.06 and that of the left was 0.1.Slit-lamp examination revealed anterior capsule contraction in both eyes and a fully closed capsulorhexis opening in the right eye.The IOLs were centered but almost completely enclosed, with numerous linear fibrous folds radiating from the hick central fibrosis. We surgically excised the central part of the anterior capsule of the eyes with microscissors, resulting again in BCVA of 0.4 and 0.5 in the right and left eyes respectively.Anterior capsule contraction might appear much earlier than three months after phacoemulsification and IOL implantation surgery in case of high myopia complicated with cataract.Patients with high myopia receive cataract and IOL surgery should be monitored carefully for the rapid development of anterior capsule contraction.·Wei Xiao Dai-Xin Zhao and Long-Quan Xue 2011International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2011,4,2:9

Mechanisms mediating CCK-8S-induced contraction of proximal colon in guinea pigs显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of sulfated cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8S) on the contractile activity of guinea-pig proximal colon.METHODS:Proximal colonic smooth muscle (PCSM) strips were obtained from adult female guinea pigs and contractile response of PCSM strips was recorded using a polyphysiograph.PCSM cells were isolated by enzymatic digestion.Resting potential (RP),action potential (AP),large conductance potassium channel currents (IBKCa) and L-type calcium currents (ICa-L) were recorded by patch-clamp techniques.RESULTS:(1) CCK-8S (10-7 mol/L) enhanced the mean contractile amplitude of colonic circular muscle and longitudinal muscle (LM) strips by 56.53% ± 11.92%(P=0.038) and 65.93% ± 12.98% (P=0.019),respectively,as well as the mean frequency of LM by 31.69% ± 13.58% (P=0.023),which were significantly attenuated by pretreating strips with devazepide, nifedipine, iberiotoxin, thapsigargin (TG) and BAPTA-AM (BA) respectively;(2) CCK-8S (10-7 mol/L) increased the AP amplitude by 38.6% ± 3.2% (P=0.015),decreased AP duration by 36.9% ± 8.7% (P=0.026),and depolarized the RP from-61.3 ± 2.7 mV to-29.8 ± 5.9 mV (P=0.032);and (3) Compared with the normal control group,CCK-8S (10-7 mol/L) enhanced the peak current of IBKCa by 18.7% ± 2.1% (from 916 ± 183 pA to 1088 ± 226 pA;at +60 mV;P=0.029),which was inhibited by respective pretreatment with iberiotoxin and devazepide.Additionally,CCK-8S (10-7 mol/L) intensif ied the peak current of ICa-L by 40% (from 60 ± 8 pA to 84 ± 11 pA;at +10 mV;P=0.012),compared to the normal control group, which was apparently suppressed by respective pretreatment with nifedipine, devazepide,TG and BA.In the respective presence of heparin and staurosporine,CCK-8S did not signif icantly enhance IBKCa and ICa-L.CONCLUSION:The results suggest that CCK-8S promotes guinea-pig proximal colon contraction by CCK1 receptors, following activation of the inositol triphosphate-protein kinase C signal transduction pathway.Zhu, Jie Chen, Ling Xia, Hong Luo, He-Sheng 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,9:8
Evaluation of wound healing and antimicrobial potentials of Ixora coccinea root extract显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the wound healing and antimicrobial activity of root extracts of Ixora coccinea(I.coccinea).Methods:To investigate the wound healing efficacy of root extract of I.coccinea Linn, five groups of animals were divided each containing six animals. Two wound models including incision and excision wound models were used in this study. The parameters studied were tensile strength on incision wound model and in terms of wound contraction for excision wound model were compared with standard Nitrofurazone(NFZ) ointment(0.2%w/w). Six extracts(ethanol.aqueous, petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform and ethyl acetate ) of I. coccinea were screened for in vitro growth inhibiting activity against different bacterial strains riz. Staphylococcia aureus.Bacillus pumilius,Enterococcus facialis.Escherichia coli,Salmonella typhi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fungi Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger were compared with the standard drugs ciprofloxacin and chloramphenicol for antibacterial and griscofulvin for antifungal screening. The serial dilution and cup(or) well plate methods were used for the antimicrobial study and MIC was determined. Results:The ethanolic extract showed significant (P<0.001) wound healing activity when compared to standard drug NFZ with respect to normal control group.Amongst all.ethanolic extract showed highly significant antibacterial activity against all bacterial strains used in this study when compared to standard. The aqueous extract showed moderate significant inhibition against all bacterial strains when compared to standard. All the extracts were shown negligible activity against the fungal strains used in this study. Conclusions:The ethanolic root extract of I.coccinea showed pronounced wound healing and antibacterial activity. The probable reason to heal the wound was that the external application of the extract prevented the microbes to invade through the wound thus the protection of wound occurs against the infection of the various organisms.Nagaraj Selvaraj Baskar Lakshmanan Papiya Mitra Mazumder Muthukumar Karuppasamy Simon Santosh Jena Ashok Kumar Pattnaik 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,12:5
The Study on the Relationship between the Expression ofCalponin and Gallstone Formation显示文摘In order to understand the molecular mechanisms of gallstone formation, the expression of calponin in animal model of gallstone disease was studiedHigh-cholesterol diet was given to the guinea pigs to induce gallstone formation.RT-PCR and Western-blotting were used to evaluate expression level of calponingene. Down-regulation of calponin gene expression was observed in animals withgallstone, while myosin expression was relatively stable. Our results indicatedthat the decrease of calponin could increase the pressure of Oddi’s sphincter, ag-gravate the stasis of bi1e and promote the gallstone formation.鲁文彤 唐大椿 曹圣 于昌松 1997Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology(Medical Sciences)1997,17,2:5
Experimental Study of Assessment on Ventricular Activation Origin and Contraction Sequence by Doppler Tissue Imaging显示文摘To evaluate the possibility and accuracy of Doppler tissue image (DTI) on assessment of normal and abnormal ventricular activation and contraction sequence, 9 open chest canine hearts were analyzed by acceleration mode, M mode, and spectrum mode DTI. Our results showed that: (1) Acceleration mode DTI could show the origin of activation and conduction sequence on line; (2) M mode DTI revealed that the activation in mid interventricular septum was earlier than that in mid left ventricular posterior wall at sinus activation; (3) Spectrum DTI showed the ventricular endocardium was activated earlier than the ventricular epicardium in all segments at sinus rhythm. The earliest site of activation of the normal ventricular wall was at middle interventricular septum; the latest site was at basal posterior wall; the contraction sequence was different at the different walls; (4) During abnormal ventricular activation, mid left ventricular posterior wall was activated earliest in accordance with the pacing sites. Abnormal ventricular activation was slower than sinus activation, and the contraction sequence varied at different sites of ventricular wall. It is concluded that DTI can be used to localize the origin of normal or abnormal myocardial activation and to assess the contraction sequence conveniently, accurately and non invasively.冀瑞平 王新房 郑宗锷 刘望彭 李治安 刘俐 2002Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology(Medical Sciences)2002,22,1:4

A unified critical state model for geomaterials with an application to tunnelling显示文摘This paper is prepared in honour of Professor E.T.Brown for his outstanding contributions to rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering and also for his personal influence on the first author’s research career in geomechanics and geotechnical engineering. As a result,we have picked a topic that reflects two key research areas in which Professor E.T.Brown has made seminal contributions over a long and distinguished career. These two areas are concerned with the application of the critical state concept to modelling geomaterials and the analysis of underground excavation or tunnelling in geomaterials.Partially due to Professor Brown’s influence, the first author has also been conducting research in these two areas over many years. In particular, this paper aims to describe briefly the development of a unified critical state model for geomaterials together with an application to cavity contraction problems and tunnelling in soils.Hai-Sui Yu Pei-Zhi Zhuang Pin-Qiang Mo 2019Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2019,11,3:3
From contraction to gene expression:nanojunctions of the sarco/endoplasmic reticulum deliver site-and function-specific calcium signals显示文摘Calcium signals determine, for example, smooth muscle contraction and changes in gene expression. How calcium signals select for these processes is enigmatic. We build on the 'panjunctional sarcoplasmic reticulum' hypothesis, describing our view that different calcium pumps and release channels, with different kinetics and affinities for calcium, are strategically positioned within nanojunctions of the SR and help demarcate their respective cytoplasmic nanodomains. SERCA2 b and Ry R1 are preferentially targeted to the sarcoplasmic reticulum(SR) proximal to the plasma membrane(PM), i.e., to the superficial buffer barrier formed by PM-SR nanojunctions, and support vasodilation. In marked contrast, SERCA2 a may be entirely restricted to the deep, perinuclear SR and may supply calcium to this sub-compartment in support of vasoconstriction. Ry R3 is also preferentially targeted to the perinuclear SR, where its clusters associate with lysosome-SR nanojunctions. The distribution of Ry R2 is more widespread and extends from this region to the wider cell. Therefore, perinuclear Ry R3 s most likely support the initiation of global calcium waves at L-SR junctions, which subsequently propagate by calcium-induced calcium release via Ry R2 in order to elicit contraction. Data also suggest that unique SERCA and Ry R are preferentially targeted to invaginations of the nuclear membrane. Site- and function-specific calcium signals may thus arise to modulate stimulus-response coupling and transcriptional cascades.A.Mark Evans Nicola Fameli Oluseye A.Ogunbayo Jingxian Duan Jorge Navarro-Dorado 2016Science China(Life Sciences)2016,59,8:3
Preliminary pharmacological evaluation of Martynia annua Linn leaves for wound healing显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the wound healing potential of fractions from ethanol extract of Martynin annua(M.annua) Linn leaves. Methods:Ethanol extract of Af.annua Linn leaves was fractionate into three different fractions(MAF-A,MAF-B and MAF-C) which were screened for wound healing potential using two models:excision and incision on rats. The thin layer chromatography(TLC) profile of all fractions were analysed and TLC of luteolin was also done. The PovidoneIodine Ointment was used as reference for comparision.Excision and incision wounds were created on dorsal portion of rats for study.Wound contraction, biochemical parameters(protein level and hydroxyproline level) and histopathological study were performed in excision wound model whereas incision model was used for determination of tensile strength. Results:The wound contraction and tensile strength of skin tissues were observed significantly greater in MAF-C fraction treated group than other two fractions(P<0.01).In excision wound method(on day 18) protein content and hydroxyproline were found significantly higher in MAF-C group than control group(P<0.01).Histopathological study also showed better angiogenesis, matured collagen fibres and fibroblast cells as compared with the control group. Conclusions:In conclusion, our findings suggest that fiaction MAF-C from ethanol extract of M.annua leaves is found most effective in wound healing.Santram Lodhi Singhai AK 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,6:3
Spinal and supraspinal control of motor function during maximal eccentric muscle contraction:Effects of resistance training显示文摘Neuromuscular activity is suppressed during maximal eccentric(ECC)muscle contraction in untrained subjects owing to attenuated levels of central activation and reduced spinal motor neuron(MN)excitability indicated by reduced electromyography signal amplitude, diminished evoked H-reflex responses, increased autogenic MN inhibition, and decreased excitability in descending corticospinal motor pathways.Maximum ECC muscle force recorded during maximal voluntary contraction can be increased by superimposed electrical muscle stimulation only in untrained individuals and not in trained strength athletes, indicating that the suppression in MN activation is modifiable by resistance training. In support of this notion, maximum ECC muscle strength can be increased by use of heavy-load resistance training owing to a removed or diminished suppression in neuromuscular activity.Prolonged(weeks to months)of heavy-load resistance training results in increased H-reflex and V-wave responses during maximal ECC muscle actions along with marked gains in maximal ECC muscle strength, indicating increased excitability of spinal MNs,decreased presynaptic and/or postsynaptic MN inhibition, and elevated descending motor drive.Notably, the use of supramaximal ECC resistance training can lead to selectively elevated V-wave responses during maximal ECC contraction, demonstrating that adaptive changes in spinal circuitry function and/or gains in descending motor drive can be achieved during maximal ECC contraction in response to heavy-load resistance training.Per Aagaard 2018Journal of Sport and Health Science2018,7,3:3
Rho A signaling and blood pressure: The consequence of failing to “Tone it Down”显示文摘Uncontrolled high blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure and contributes to an estimated 25% of deaths worldwide. Despite numerous treatment options, estimates project that reasonable blood pressure(BP) control is achieved in only about half of hypertensive patients. Improvements in the detection and management of hypertension will undoubtedly be accomplished through a better understanding of the complex etiology of this disease and a more comprehensive inventory of the genes and genetic variants that influence BP regulation. Recent studies(primarily in pre-clinical models) indicate that the small GTPase Rho A and its downstream target, Rho kinase, play an important role in regulating BP homeostasis. Herein, we summarize the underlying mechanisms and highlight signaling pathways and regulators that impart tight spatial-temporal control of Rho A activity. We also discuss known allelic variations in the Rho A pathway and consider how these polymorphisms may affect genetic risk for hypertension and its clinical manifestations. Finally, we summarize the current(albeit limited) clinical data on the efficacy of targeting the Rho A pathway in hypertensive patients.Xue Bai Rachel Dee Kevin D Mangum Christopher P Mack Joan M Taylor 2016World Journal of Hypertension2016,6,1:3

Effects of adenosine triphosphate concentration on motor force regulation during skeletal muscle contraction显示文摘We employ a mechanical model of sarcomere to quantitatively investigate how adenosine triphosphate(ATP)concentration affects motor force regulation during skeletal muscle contraction. Our simulation indicates that there can be negative cross-bridges resisting contraction within the sarcomere and higher ATP concentration would decrease the resistance force from negative cross-bridges by promoting their timely detachment. It is revealed that the motor force is well regulated only when ATP concentration is above a certain level. These predictions may provide insights into the role of ATP in regulating coordination among multiple motors.J. Wei C. Dong B. Chen 2017Acta Mechanica Sinica2017,33,2:2
