Uniaxial experimental study of the acoustic emission and deformation behavior of composite rock based on 3D digital image correlation(DIC)显示文摘In this paper, uniaxial compression tests were carried out on a series of composite rock specimens with different dip angles, which were made from two types of rock-like material with different strength. The acoustic emission technique was used to monitor the acoustic signal characteristics of composite rock specimens during the entire loading process. At the same time, an optical non-contact 3 D digital image correlation technique was used to study the evolution of axial strain field and the maximal strain field before and after the peak strength at different stress levels during the loading process. The effect of bedding plane inclination on the deformation and strength during uniaxial loading was analyzed. The methods of solving the elastic constants of hard and weak rock were described. The damage evolution process, deformation and failure mechanism, and failure mode during uniaxial loading were fully determined. The experimental results show that the θ = 0?–45?specimens had obvious plastic deformation during loading, and the brittleness of the θ = 60?–90?specimens gradually increased during the loading process. When the anisotropic angle θincreased from 0?to 90?, the peak strength, peak strain, and apparent elastic modulus all decreased initially and then increased. The failure mode of the composite rock specimen during uniaxial loading can be divided into three categories:tensile fracture across the discontinuities(θ = 0?–30?), slid-ing failure along the discontinuities(θ = 45?–75?), and tensile-split along the discontinuities(θ = 90?). The axial strain of the weak and hard rock layers in the composite rock specimen during the loading process was significantly different from that of the θ = 0?–45?specimens and was almost the same as that of the θ = 60?–90?specimens. As for the strain localization highlighted in the maximum principal strain field, the θ = 0?–30?specimens appeared in the rock matrix approximately parallel to the loading direction, while in the θ = 45?–90?specimens it appeared at the hard and weak rock layer interface. | Jian-Long Cheng Sheng-Qi Yang Kui Chen Dan Ma Feng-Yuan Li Li-Ming Wang | 2017 | Acta Mechanica Sinica2017,33,6: | 13
Failure mode classification of reinforced concrete column using Fisher method显示文摘In order to apply the performance-based seismic design, an engineer must first find out whether the column is expected to fail in shear before or after flexural yielding. According to column failure characteristics and failure mode of reinforced concrete column, the UW-PEER structure performance database was discussed and analyzed. In order to investigate the relevance of failure mode and factors such as longitudinal reinforcement ratio, transverse reinforcement ratio, hoop spacing to depth ratio, aspect ratio, shearing resistance demand to shear capacity ratio and axial load ratio, Fisher's discriminant analysis(FDA) of the above factors was carried out. A discriminant function was developed to identify column failure mode. Results show that three factors, i.e., Vp /Vn, hoop spacing to depth ratio and aspect ratio have important influence on the failure mode. The failure mode has less to do with longitudinal reinforcement ratio, transverse reinforcement ratio and axial load ratio. Through using these three factors and the model proposed, over 85.6% of the original grouped cases were correctly classified. The value of coefficient of Vp /Vn is the largest, which means that discriminant equation is most sensitive to the shearing resistance demand to shear capacity ratio. | 戚永乐 韩小雷 季静 | 2013 | Journal of Central South University2013,20,10: | 11
Why total knees fail-A modern perspective review显示文摘Historically, the most common mechanism of total kneearthroplasty(TKA) failures included aseptic loosening, instability and malalignment. As polyethylene production improved, modes of failure from polyethylene wear and subsequent osteolysis became less prevalent. Newer longitudinal studies report that infection has become the primary acute cause of failure with loosening and instability remaining as the overall greatest reasons for revision. Clinical database and worldwide national registries confirm these reports. With an increasing amount of TKA operations performed in the United States, and with focus on value-based healthcare, it is imperative to understand why total knees fail. | Zachary C Lum Alvin K Shieh Lawrence D Dorr | 2018 | World Journal of Orthopedics2018,9,4: | 9
Effects of bolt profile and grout mixture on shearing behaviors of bolt-grout interface显示文摘Shearing behavior and failure mechanism of bolt-grout interface are of great significance for load transfer capacity and design of rock bolting system. In this paper, direct shear tests on bolt-grout interfaces under constant normal load(CNL) conditions were conducted to investigate the effects of bolt profile(i.e.rib spacing and rib height) and grout mixture on the bolt-grout interface in terms of mechanical behaviors and failure modes.Test results showed that the peak shear strength and the deformation capacity of the bolt-grout interface are highly dependent on the bolt profile and grout mixture, suggesting that bolt performances can be optimized, which were unfortunately ignored in the previous studies.A new interface failure mode,i.e.'sheared-crush' mode, was proposed, which was characterized by progressive crush failure of the grout asperities between steel ribs during shearing. It was shown that the interface failure mode mainly depends on the normal stress level and rib spacing, compared with the rib height and grout mixture for the range of tested parameters in this study. | Chuanqing Zhang Guojian Cui Xiangrong Chen Hui Zhou Liang Deng | 2020 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2020,12,2: | 4
Dynamic responses of reinforced concrete beams under double-endinitiated close-in explosion显示文摘The reinforced concrete(RC) structural component might suffer a great damage under close-in explosion.Different from distant explosions, blast loads generated by the close-in explosion are non-uniformly distributed on the structural component and may cause both local and structural failure. In this study,an experimental study was conducted to investigate the dynamic responses of RC beams under doubleend-initiated close-in explosions. The experimental results show that the distribution of blast loads generated by the double-end-initiated explosion is much more non-uniform than those generated by single-point detonation, which is caused by the self-Mach-reflection effects. A 3 D finite element model was developed and validated in LS-DYNA by employing the modified K&C model. Intensive numerical calculations were conducted to study the influences of the initiation way, scaled distance and longitudinal reinforcement ratio on the dynamic responses and failure modes of RC beams. Numerical results show that the RC beam suffers greater damage as the cylindrical explosive is detonated at its double ends than the scenario in which the cylindrical explosive is detonated at its central point. RC beams mainly suffer flexural failure and flexure-shear failure under the double-end close-in explosion, and the failure modes of RC beams change from the flexural damage to flexure-shear damage as the scaled distance or the longitudinal reinforcement ratio decreases. The direct shear failure mode is not usually observed in the double-end-initiated explosion, since the intense blast loads is basically concentrated in the midspan of RC beam, which is due to self-Mach-reflection enhancement. | Bin Rao Li Chen Qin Fang Jian Hong Zhong-xian Liu Heng-bo Xiang | 2018 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2018,14,5: | 4
Comparative study on bearing mechanism and design parameters of confined concrete arch joints in deep soft rock roadway显示文摘Square confined concrete arch is increasingly used in deep soft rock roadway support because of its advantages of high strength and construction convenience. However, the design of confined concrete arch in underground engineering still remains in experience-based method and lacks quantitative analysis. As a connecting component between arch sections, the connection joints have an important influence on the internal force distribution and failure mechanism of support arch. Therefore,a reasonable design of arch joints is the premise of rational support design.Taking Liangjia Coal Mine,a typical deep soft rock mine in China,as research background, this paper fully compared the most widely used joint types of confined concrete arch as analytical objects:flange joints and casing joints. The main failure modes of these two kinds of joints under bending moment are defined.Laboratory and numerical tests are carried out to study the mechanical characteristics of joints.Based on the M-θ curve, the influence law of different design parameters is analyzed, and the design principles of joints are proposed. The research results could provide a theoretical basis for the design and application of confined concrete arch in related projects. | Wei Lu Qi Wang Bei Jiang Shuo Xu Bohong Liu Peng Zhang Zhenhua Jiang | 2019 | International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2019,6,4: | 3
Shaking Table Test Study on Dynamic Characteristics of Bridge Foundation Reinforcement on Slopes显示文摘With the fast development of bridge construction in mountainous and seismic areas,it is necessary to conduct related research. Based on the design of a shaking table model test, here are the following test results: the filtering effect exists in soil and is affected by the dynamic constraint conditions, the amplitude is strengthened around the natural frequency and weakened in other frequency bands in the Fourier spectrum. Since the acceleration scaling effect occurred on a sloped surface, the acceleration response decreases from the outside to the inside in soil. The dynamic response is relatively strong near the slip surface in bedrock due to the reflection of seismic waves. The failure mode of landslide is decided by the slope angle and slipping mass distribution, and the test shows the front row stabilizing piles should keep a proper distance from bridge foundation so that seismic resistance can be guaranteed for the bridge foundation. | Lei Da Qi Zhihui Jiang Guanlu Wang Zhimeng Li Anhong | 2017 | Earthquake Research in China2017,31,3: | 3
Failure behavior of protective organic coatings under corrosive conditions显示文摘Recent research activities on the formation of micro-defects and porosity in organic coatings were reviewed. The mechanisms of aggressive ionic conduction through organic coatings were analyzed. The micro-mechanisms for the failure behavior of coatings under corrosive environments were discussed in detail. These mechanisms included blistering (i. e. osmotic blistering, anodic blistering and cathodic blistering) in the coating, wet-adhesion loss at the substrate/coating interface, cathodic delamination of coating from the substrate. Based on these researches, it was found that the failure behavior of organic coatings is closely related to the micro-defects in coatings, regardless of the failure mode. Additionally, the general failure mode of a coating system was proposed to interpret the failure behavior of organic in corrosion environments. The topics discussed can provide some insights into the development of a methodology for designing fail-safe coating systems. | ZHANG Xian-cheng XU Bin-shi WANG Hai-dou WU Yi-xiong | 2004 | 中国有色金属学会会刊:英文版2004,14,z1: | 3
An exploratory study for predicting component reliability with new load conditions显示文摘Reliability is important to design innovation.A new product should be not only innovative, but also reliable. For many existing comp on ents used in the new product, their reliability will change because the applied loads are different from the ones for which the components are originally designed and manufactured. Then the new reliability must be re-evaluated.The system designers of the new product, however, may not have enough information to perform this task. With a beam problem as a case study, this study explores a feasible way to reevaluate the component reliability with new loads given the following information:The original reliability of the component with respect to the component loads and the distributions of the new component loads.Physics-based methods are employed to build the equivalent component limit-state function that can predict the component failure under the new loads.Since the information is limited, the re-evaluated component reliability is given by its maximum and minimum values. The case study shows that good accuracy can be obtained even though the new reliability is provided with the aforementioned interval. | Zhengwei HU Xiaoping DU | 2019 | Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering2019,14,1: | 1

Experimental Study on Shear Behavior of New-Type Steel-Concrete Composite Bridge Deck显示文摘To alleviate deck fatigue failure and regular pavement damage, which are congenital deficiencies of highway steel bridge deck structure, this paper proposes a newtype of composite bridge deck, consisting of steel tubular connectors and steel-reactive powder concrete (RPC). Push-out tests were conducted to study the newdeck's shear performance. During the experimental process, specimens were divided into two groups which are composed of steel tubular connectors with or without penetrative bars set in. Then, researchers analyzed destroyed models and mechanisms of the composite structure under shear forces. Results showed that test models in two groups, once destroyed, displayed similar shear fracture, which appeared on the lower margin of the steel tubular wall along the welds. Meanwhile,RPC under the connector, for varied tests, was crushed at the same stage, although the large shear and bending deformation just occurred on connectors with penetrative bars. Additionally, shear capacity of specimens with penetrative bars, compared with the ones without bars, unexpectedly decreased by 20%,but the structural ductility was 1.75 times as much, and the ductility coefficients of specimens were all larger than 3.5,demonstrating certain deformation capacity. | Qiu Zhao Yang Du Wenping Cai Ming Yang Rui Dong | 2018 | Journal of Harbin Institute of Technology(New Series)2018,25,6: | 0

Changes of Some Capacities and Failure Mode of Ni/MH Batteries During Cycling显示文摘The changes of capacities of positive and negative electrodes, reserve capacities of charging and discharging, and the weight of batteries during cycling have been determined. The increase of the discharging reserve capacity due to the conjugated electrochemical reactions of the oxidation of hydrogen storage alloy is estimated. The results show that the failure mode of Ni/MH batteries developed is as follows: during the increase of cycles, the hydrogen storage alloy is oxidized continuously and the charging reserve capacity is decreased rapidly while the discharging reserve capacity is increased gradually, thus the internal pressure is increasing, first H 2 leaks out from the battery, then the mixture of H 2 and O 2. The leakage of gases and the total reaction of oxidation of the alloy consume H 2O, and the surface oxides on the alloy increase, so that the internal resistance of the battery increases. | 尹鸽平 | 2001 | High Technology Letters2001,7,3: | 0
Experimental and Numerical Studies of Failure Modes and Load-Carrying Capacity of Through-Diaphragm Connections显示文摘Shear failure in panel zones and plastic hinges in steel beams are the two major failure modes of connections between concrete-filled steel tubular(CFST) columns and steel beams. To investigate the behavior of this type of connection in both modes, two through-diaphragm connections were tested under cyclic and monotonic loadings and the load-carrying capacity, ductility, and strength of degradation of connections were discussed. Using ABAQUS software,we developed nonlinear finite-element models(FEMs) to simulate the load-carrying capacity and failure modes of the connections under monotonic loading. The finite-element(FE) analysis and test results showed reasonable agreement for the through-diaphragm connections, which confirms the accuracy of FEMs in predicting the load-carrying capacity and failure modes of connections. Based on the validated FEM,a parametric study was then conducted to investigate the infl uence of the thicknesses of the tube and diaphragm on the load-carrying capacity and failure modes of these connections. The results indicate that the strength, stiff ness, and load-carrying capacity are infl uenced less by the thickness of the diaphragm, and more by the thickness of the steel tube. According to the FE analysis results,it can be found that the critical condition between the two failure modes is determined by the shear resistance and bending resistance. | Bin Rong Shuai Liu Zhenyu Li Rui Liu | 2018 | Transactions of Tianjin University2018,24,4: | 0
Research on the Relationship Between Information Fusion Method and Information Failure Mode in Integrated Navigation System显示文摘On the basis of the basic principles of weighted fusion, Kalman filtering and BP neural networks, the basic principles of information fusion methods used in integrated navigation systems are expounded. Through the analysis of the basic principles, the as-sociation of information fusion methods commonly used in integrated navigation systems and information failure modes is obtained: the information fault mode of weighted fusion method The model is closely related to the specific weight allocation method, which depends on the fault mode of the sensor or sub-system in which the weight is dominant;the information fault mode of the Kalman filtering information fusion method is a continuous mutation fault corresponding to the nonlinear time interval of the system;the in-formation fault mode of the BP neural network method is gradual with time. The information failure mode of the BP neural network method is a slowly varying fault that gradually accumulates over time. Starting from the complexity associated with the information fusion method and the information failure mode, it is pointed out that in order to systematically express the relationship between the information fusion method and the information failure mode, further research can be carried out. | Binzi Han Baiqing Hu | 2018 | Modern Electronic Technology2018,2,2: | 0
GENERAL FAILURE PROBABILITY SIMULATION AND APPLICATION FOR MULTI-MODE显示文摘A general failure probability simulation and deviation evaluation methods were presented for fuzzy safety state and fuzzy failure state. And the corresponding number integral method was simultaneously established. As the distribution of state variable and the membership of the state variable to the fuzzy safety set were normal, the general failure probability of the single failure mode had precise analytic solution, which was used to verify the precision of the presented methods. The results show that the evaluation of the simulation method convergences to the analytic solution with the number increase of the sampling. The above methods for the single failure mode was extended to the multi_mode by the expansion and probability principles. The presented methods were applied to the engineering problem. For the number of significant mode is not too many, the high precision solution can be given by the presented number simulation and number integral methods, which is illustrated by the engineering examples. In addition, the application scope of the methods was discussed. | 吕震宙 岳珠峰 冯蕴雯 | 2000 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2000,21,4: | 0
Influence of DC Supply Systems on Unplanned Reactor Trips in Nuclear Power Plants显示文摘Operational experience has shown that some components in nuclear power plants are so important that their failures, which would be a single failure, may cause the entire plant to shutdown. Such shutdowns have often occurred in the past in commercial nuclear power plants. Nuclear power plant authorities try to avoid such unplanned plant shutdowns because of the large economic loss. Unfortunately, it is difficult to identify all the important components from the numerous components in each complex nuclear power plant system. FMEA and FTA methods, which are often applied to probabilistic risk assessments, are used in this paper to identify the key components that may cause unplanned reactor trips. As an example, the 48V DC power supply system in a typical Chinese nuclear power plant, which is a major cause of many unplanned reactor trips, was analyzed to show how to identify these key components and the causes for nuclear power plant trips. | 李君利 童节娟 茆定远 | 2001 | Tsinghua Science and Technology2001,6,1: | 0

Application of vulnerability analysis in structural capacity assessment and enhancement显示文摘This paper presents a structural vulnerability analysis method based on the theory of plastic limit analysis.By applying the mechanism generation method, the ultimate loading factor and the corresponding failure mode of a structural system can be obtained. The ultimate loading factor was then used to measure the performance of a structural system. The variation of this factor to different damage scenarios due to vehicle collision was investigated. To illustrate the proposed method, two cases study on statically determinate and statically indeterminate truss bridge were performed. The results of the case study showed that the susceptibility of structure performance to local damage scenarios not only depends on the location but also the severity of the damage scenarios.Based on this analysis, structural capacity can be evaluated and structural management and maintenance strategy can be made more efficiently. | 于刚 孙智 孙利民 | 2011 | Journal of Harbin Institute of Technology(New Series)2011,18,3: | 0
