Development of Finite Element Limiting Analysis Method and Its Applications in Geotechnical Engineering显示文摘The Finite Element Limiting Analysis Method(LELAM) has the advantage of combining a numerical analysis method with traditional limiting equilibrium methods. It is particularly applicable to the analysis and design of geotechnical engineering. In the early 20th century,FELAM has been developed vigorously in domestic geotechnical engineering over international common finite element procedures. It has made great achievements in basic theory research and computational precision, thus broadening the application fields in practical projects. In order to gradually make innovations in geotechnical design methods, some of our research results are presented, mainly including geotechnical safety factor definitions, the principles for use of the method concerned, the overall failure criterion, the deduction and selection of the yield criterion, and the measurement to improve the computational precision,etc..The application field has been broadened from two-dimensional to three-dimensional,from soil slope to jointed rock slope and foundation, from stable seepage to non-stable seepage, from slope and foundation to tunnel. This method has also been used in search of many hidden sliding surfaces of complex landslides, conducting the structural support design considering the interaction between the soil and the structure, and computing simulation foundation bearing plates load tests,etc..Zheng Yingren1,Deng Chujian1,Zhao Shangyi1,Tang Xiangsong1,Liu Mingwei1,Zhang Liming2(1 Department of Civil Engineering,Logistical Engineering University,Chongqing 400041,China 2 Department of Science and Information Engineering,Qingdao Technological University,Qingdao 266033,China) 2007工程科学(英文版)2007,5,3:27

Three-dimensional Finite Element Analysis of the Mechanical Properties of Helical Thread Connection显示文摘Conventional analytical and numerical methods for the mechanical properties of helical threads are relied on many assumptions and approximations and thus hardly yield satisfied results. A parameterized 3D finite element model of bolted joints with real helical thread geometry is established and meshed with refined hexahedral elements. The Von Mises plasticity criterion, kinematic hardening rule of materials and interfacial contacts are employed to make it possible for the suggested model be able to approach real assembly conditions. Then, the mechanical properties of bolted joints with different thread pitches, thread numbers and modular ratios are investigated, including the contact pressure distribution at joint interfaces, the axial load distribution and stress concentration in screw threads during the loading and unloading process. Simulation results indicate that the load distribution in screw threads produced by the suggested model agrees well the results from CHEN's photoelastic tests. In addition, an interesting phenomenon is found that tightening the bolt with a large preload first and then adjusting the clamping force by unloading can make the load distribution more uniform and reduce the maximum residual equivalent stress in thread roots by up to 40%. This research provides a simple and practical approach to constructing the 3D finite element model and predicting the mechanical properties of helical thread connection.YANG Guoqing HONG Jun ZHU Linbo LI Baotong XIONG Meihua WANG Fei 2013Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2013,26,3:19
Finite element formulation based on proper orthogonal decomposition for parabolic equations显示文摘A proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method is applied to a usual finite element (FE) formulation for parabolic equations so that it is reduced into a POD FE formulation with lower dimensions and enough high accuracy. The errors between the reduced POD FE solution and the usual FE solution are analyzed. It is shown by numerical examples that the results of numerical computations are consistent with theoretical conclusions. Moreover, it is also shown that this validates the feasibility and efficiency of POD method.LUO ZhenDong CHEN Jing SUN Ping YANG XiaoZhong 2009Science China Mathematics2009,52,3:16
Effects of Biomimetic Surface Designs on Furrow Opener Performance显示文摘The effects of biomimetic designs of tine furrow opener surface on equivalent pressure and pressure in the direction ofmotion on opener surface against soil were studied by finite element method (FEM) simulation and the effects of these designson tool force and power requirements were examined experimentally.Geometrical structures of the cuticle surfaces of dungbeetle (Copris ochus Motschulsky) were examined by stereoscopy. The structures of the cuticle surfaces and Ultra High Mo-lecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) material were modeled on surface of tine furrow opener as biomimetic designs.Sevenfurrow openers were analyzed in ANSYS program (a FEM simulation software). The biomimetic furrow opener surfaces withUHMWPE structures were found to have lower equivalent pressure and pressure in the direction of motion as compared to theconventional surface and to the biomimetic surfaces with textured steel-35 structures. It was found that the tool force and powerwere increased with the cutting depth and operating speed and the biomimetic furrow opener with UHMWPE tubular sectionridges showed the lowest resistance and power requirement against soil..Ballel.Z.Moayad 2009Journal of Bionic Engineering2009,6,3:14
Experimental and Numerical Investigation of the Axial Behavior of Connection in CFST Diagrid Structures显示文摘Concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) diagrid structures usually have connections intersected by four oblique CFST columns. In order to investigate the performance, capacity and failure mechanism of the connections, two 1/5.5-scale specimens were tested under monotonic axial loading. The parameters in the study were the separation angle between columns. While the test was being conducted, the deflection, stress, failure pattern and capacity of the specimens were obtained and analyzed. In addition, the connection was analyzed using the general finite element analysis (FEA) software ABAQUS, with the purpose of investigating the mechanism, the weakness, the distribution of stress, and the bearing capacity of the connections. Experimental and numerical results indicate that the connecting separation angles resulted in the difference of failure modes and the mechanical behavior of the connections was similar to the behavior of CFST short columns.韩小雷 黄超 季静 吴建营 2008Tsinghua Science and Technology2008,13,S1:11
Multi-factor sensitivity analysis on the stability of submarine hydrate-bearing slope显示文摘There are many factors affecting the instability of the submarine hydrate-bearing slope (SHBS),and the interaction with hydrate is very complicated. In this paper, the mechanical mechanism of the static liquefaction and instability of submarine slope caused by the dissociation of natural gas hydrate (NGH) resulting in the rapid increase of pore pressure of gas hydrate-bearing sediments (GHBS) and the decrease of effective stress are analyzed based on the time series and type of SHBS.Then, taking the typical submarine slope in the northern South China Sea as an example, four important factors affecting the stability of SHBS are selected, such as the degree of hydrate dissociation, the depth of hydrate burial, the thickness of hydrate, and the depth of seawater.According to the principle of orthogonal method,25 orthogonal test schemes with 4 factors and 5 levels are designed and the safety factors of submarine slope stability of each scheme are calculated by using the strength reduction finite element method.By means of the orthogonal design range analysis and the variance analysis, sensitivity of influential factors on stability of SHBS are obtained. The results show that the degree of hydrate dissociation is the most sensitive, followed by hydrate burial depth, the thickness of hydrate and the depth of seawater. Finally, the concept of gas hydrate critical burial depth is put forward according to the influence law of gas hydrate burial depth, and the numerical simulation for specific submarine slope is carried out, which indicates the existence of critical burial depth.Liang Kong Zhen-fei Zhang Qing-meng Yuan Qian-yong Liang Yao-hong Shi Jin-qing Lin 2018China Geology2018,1,3:10

Numerical analysis of surface subsidence in asymmetric parallel highway tunnels显示文摘Tunnelling related hazards are very common in the Himalayan terrain and a number of such instances have been reported. Several twin tunnels are being planned for transportation purposes which will require good understanding for prediction of tunnel deformation and surface settlement during the engineering life of the structure. The deformational behaviour, design of sequential excavation and support of any jointed rock mass are challenging during underground construction. We have raised several commonly assumed issues while performing stability analysis of underground opening at shallow depth. For this purpose, Kainchi-mod Nerchowck twin tunnels(Himachal Pradesh, India) are taken for in-depth analysis of the stability of two asymmetric tunnels to address the influence of topography, twin tunnel dimension and geometry. The host rock encountered during excavation is composed mainly of moderately to highly jointed grey sandstone, maroon sandstone and siltstones. In contrast to equidimensional tunnels where the maximum subsidence is observed vertically above the centreline of the tunnel, the result from the present study shows shifting of the maximum subsidence away from the tunnel centreline. The maximum subsidence of 0.99 mm is observed at 4.54 m left to the escape tunnel centreline whereas the maximum subsidence of 3.14 mm is observed at 8.89 m right to the main tunnel centreline. This shifting clearly indicates the influence of undulating topography and inequidimensional noncircular tunnel.Ratan Das P.K.Singh Ashutosh Kainthola Suman Panthee T.N.Singh 2017Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2017,9,1:7
A modified Johnson–Cook model for 7N01 aluminum alloy under dynamic condition显示文摘Tensile tests at different strain rates(0.0002, 0.002, 0.02, 1000 and 3000 s^(-1)) were carried out for 7N01 aluminum alloy. Low strain rate experiments(0.0002, 0.002 and 0.02 s^(-1)) were conducted using an electronic mechanical universal testing machine, while high strain rate experiments(1000, 3000 s^(-1)) were carried out through a split Hopkinson tensile bar. The experimental results showed that 7N01 aluminum alloy is strain rate sensitive. By introducing a correction scheme of the strain rate hardening coefficient, a modified Johnson–Cook model was proposed to describe the flow behaviors of 7N01 aluminum alloy. The proposed model fitted the experimental data better than the original Johnson–Cook model in plastic flow under dynamic condition. Numerical simulations of the dynamic tensile tests were performed using ABAQUS with the modified Johnson–Cook model. Digital image correlation was used together with high-speed photography to study the mechanical characters of specimen at high strain rate. Good correlations between the experiments results, numerical predictions and DIC results are achieved. High accuracy of the modified Johnson-Cook model was validated.张一犇 姚松 洪翔 王中钢 2017Journal of Central South University2017,24,11:7

Thermal deformation of aluminum alloy casting materials for tire mold by numerical analysis显示文摘Thermal deformation of aluminum alloy casting materials for manufacturing the tire mold was numerically investigated. The AC7A and AC4C casting material was selected as casting material and the metal casting device was used in order to manufacture the mold product of automobile tire in the actual industrial field. The temperature distribution and the cooling time of casting materials were numerically calculated by finite element analysis (FEA).Also, the thermal deformation such as displacement and stress distribution was calculated from the temperature results. The thermal deformation was closely related to the temperature difference between the surface and inside of the casting. The numerical analysis results reveal that the thermal deformation of AC7A casting material is higher than that of AC4C casting material. Also, the thermal deformation results at the central part are larger than that on the side of casting because of the shrinkage caused by the cooling speed difference.Hee-Sung YOON Je-Se CHOI Yool-Kwon OH 2012中国有色金属学会会刊:英文版2012,22,S3:6
Computed tomography-based finite element analysis to assess fracture risk and osteoporosis treatment显示文摘Finite element analysis(FEA) is a computer technique of structural stress analysis and developed in engineering mechanics. This CT-based finite element analysis(CT/FEA) has provided clinicians with useful data. In this review, the mechanism of CT/FEA, validation studies of CT/FEA to evaluate accuracy and reliability in human bones, and clinical application studies to assess fracture risk and effects of osteoporosis medication are overviewed.Kazuhiro Imai 2015World Journal of Experimental Medicine2015,5,3:6
Radial Grip Rigidity of the Matching of Lengthened Shrink-fit Holder and Cutter in High-speed Milling显示文摘Though the lengthened shrink-fit holder (LSFH) is widely applied in high speed milling of the parts characterized by deep cavities at present, its design and selection mainly depends on the experience and lacks a correct theoretical guidance. In this paper, attention is focus on the radial grip rigidity of the matching of LSFH and cutter in high speed milling.Based on the experiment modal analysis (EMA) technique,an accurate finite element model of the matching of LSFH and cutter is established firstly.Subsequently, the influence of different interference, grip length and spindle speed on the grip rigidity of LSFH are analyzed. The analysis results show that there is a reasonable interference and grip length between the LSFH and cutter so that to have a steepless grip and have a good radial grip rigidity and at the same time to avoid the strength of LSFH to exceed it’s yield limit which will reduce the precision and service life of LSFH,besides when spindle speed reach a extension the weakening influence of the centrifugal force on the radial grip rigidity of the matching of LSFH and cutter should been taken into account. Finally, the finite element analysis results are verified based on the construction of measurement method of the grip rigidity and the results fit very well. The studies provide a theoretical basis for the design, selection and the serialization and standardization of the matching of LSFH and cutter.ZHOU Houming WANG Chengyong DENG Jianxin PENG Ruitao 2012Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2012,25,1:5

Computer Simulation of Dynamic Interactions Between Vehicle and Long Span Box Girder Bridges显示文摘Moving vehicle loads, associated with roadway traffic can induce significant dynamic effects on the structural behaviours of bridges, especially for long-span bridges. The main objective of current research is to study traffic induced dynamic responses of long-span box-girder bridges. The finite element method has been employed in this study to obtain a three-dimensional mathematical model for the bridge system. For vehicle-bridge dynamic interaction analysis, the vehicle is modeled as a more realistic three-axle, six-wheel system, and the corresponding dynamic interaction equations have been derived. The bridge-vehicle interaction is affected by many factors. The current study has been focused on such factors as: vehicle speed, vehicle damping ratio, multiple traffic lanes, mass ratio of vehicle and bridge, and dynamic characteristics of bridge. Case studies have been conducted to investigate these factors by using several box girder bridge examples including Confederation Bridge, the longest box girder bridge in the world.Moe S. 18Application of Finite Element Analysis for Investigation of Intervertebral Disc Degeneration:from Laboratory to Clinic显示文摘Due to the ethical concern and inability to detect inner stress distributions of intervertebral disc(IVD),traditional methods for investigation of intervertebral disc degeneration(IVDD)have significant limitations. Many researchers have demonstrated that finite element analysis(FEA)is an effective tool for the research of IVDD.However, the specific application of FEA for investigation of IVDD has not been systematically elucidated before. In the present review,we summarize the current finite element models(FEM)used for the investigation of IVDD,including the poroelastic non linear FEM,difTusive-reactive theory model and cell-activity coupled mechano-electrochemical theory model. We further elaborate the use of FEA for the research of IVDD pathogenesis especially for nutrition and biomechanics associated etiology, and the biological, biomechanical and clinical influences of IVDD.In addition, the application of FEA for evaluation and exploration of various treatments for IVDD is also elucidated. We conclude that FEA is an excellent technique for research of IVDD,which could be used to explore the etiology, biology and biomechanics of IVDD.In the future,FEA may help us to achieve the goal of individualized precision therapy.Bin-wu HU Xiao LV Song-feng CHEN Zeng-wu SHAO 2019Current Medical Science2019,39,1:5
Effect of anisotropic characteristics on the mechanical behavior of asphalt concrete overlay显示文摘Asphalt concrete (AC)overlays placed over old asphalt pavement have become an alternative to repairing and reinforcing pavements. The strength contributed by the AC overlay is strongly influenced by the anisotropic properties of the pavement material. This study was conducted to analyze the influence of anisotropy, modulus gradient properties, and the condition of the AC overlay and old pavement contact plane on the mechanical behaviors of AC overlays,as well as to quantify the influence of the degree of anisotropy on the mechanical behaviors of AC overlay by a sensitivity analysis (SA).The mechanical behaviors of the AC overlay were numerically obtained using the three- dimensional finite element method with the aid of ABAQUS,a commercial program.Variations in the AC overlay's modulus as a function of temperature as well as the contact state between the AC overlay and AC layer were considered. The SA is based on standardized regression coefficients method.Comparing the mechanical behavior in terms of surface deflection, stress, and strain of the anisotropy model against those corresponding to the isotropic model under static loads show that the anisotropic properties had greater effects on the mechanical behavior of the AC overlay. In addition, the maximum shear stress in the AC overlay was the most significant output parameter affected by the degree of anisotropy. Therefore, future research concerning the reinforcement and repair of pavements should consider the anisotropic properties of the pavement materials.Lingyun YOU Zhanping YOU Kezhen YAN 2019Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2019,13,1:4
Finite Element Analysis of the Contact Mechanics of Ceramic-on-Ceramic Hip Resurfacing Prostheses显示文摘Ceramics are good alternative to metal as bearing couple materials because of their better wear resistance. A Finite Element(FE) study was performed to investigate the contact mechanics and stress distribution of Ceramic-on-Ceramic (COC) hip resurfacingprostheses. It was focused in particular on a parametric study to examine the effects of radial clearance, loading, alumina coating on the implants, bone quality, and fixation of cup-bone interface. It was found that a reduction in the radialclearance had the most significant effect on the predicted contact pressure distribution among all of the parameters considered inthis study. It was determined that there was a significant influence of non-metallic materials, such as the bone underneath thebearing components, on the predicted contact mechanics. Stress shielding within the bone tissue was found to be a major concernwhen regarding the use of ceramic as an alternative to metallic resurfacing prostheses. Therefore, using alumina implantswith a metal backing was found to be the best design for ceramic resurfacing prostheses in this study. The loading, bone quality, and acetabular cup fixation conditions were found to have only minor effects on the predicted contact pressure distribution alongthe bearing surfaces.Ahmet C.Cilingir 2010Journal of Bionic Engineering2010,7,3:4
