1Tribological properties of conductive lubricating greases显示文摘Three kinds of new conductive lubricating greases were prepared using lithium ionic liquids as the base oil and the polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)as the thickener.These lithium ionic liquids([Li(PEG)X])were obtained by blending lithium salts(LiBF4,LiPF6 and LiNTf2)with poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG)because lithium salts have an extremely high solubility in PEG.The conductivities and contact resistances of the prepared lubricating greases were investigated using the DDSJ‐308A conductivity meter and the reciprocating ball‐on‐disk UMT‐2MT sliding tester.In addition,their tribological properties were investigated in detail.Scanning electron microscopy and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy were employed to explore the friction mechanisms.The results suggest that the prepared lubricating greases have high conductivities and excellent tribological properties.The high conductivities are attributed to ion diffusion or migration of the lithium ionic liquids with an external electric field,and the excellent tribological properties depend on the formation of boundary protective films.Xiaoqiang FAN Yanqiu XIA Liping WANG 2014Friction2014,2,4:10
2Comparative Studies on Low Noise Greases Operating under High Temperature Oxidation Conditions显示文摘Oxidation induction time(OIT) testing by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) was used to evaluate the oxidation resistance of lubricating greases. Under the high temperature condition, bearing noise was detected when grease passed the initial stable stage of oxidation. The chemical and physical structure of grease samples before and after high temperature oxidation were also analyzed by FT-IR spectrometry and scanning electron microscopy(SEM), then the effects of oxidation at high temperature on bearing noise were investigated. It is found out that for lithium greases, oxidation of base oil and thickener is the main reason responsible for the increasing bearing noise. 3Impact of polydimethylsiloxanes on physicochemical and tribological properties of naphthenic mineral oil(KN 4010)-based titanium complex grease显示文摘Titanium complex greases were prepared by using naphthenic mineral oil and polydimethylsiloxane as the mixed base oil. The effect of polydimethylsiloxane molecular weight and polydimethylsiloxane content in mixed base oil on the physicochemical and tribological properties of titanium complex greases was investigated.As compared to the sole mineral oil-based titanium complex grease, the use of polydimethylsiloxane(H201-350)as a co-base oil increased the dropping point from 310 to 329℃, decreased the oil separation from 3.7% to 2.3%,reduced the corrosion extent, and obviously improved the tribological properties. 4Experimental investigation of EHD grease lubrication in finite line contacts显示文摘The objective of this study was to investigate the grease-lubricated film-forming mechanisms in the finite line contact and to improve the grease-lubricated finite line contact’s film-forming capacity.An elastohydrodynamic lubrication(EHL) test rig with two interferometry microscopes,which could simultaneously monitor two different contact locations in the finite line contact,was constructed in order to study the influences of the grease thickener formulation on the film thickness and lubrication condition.By using the relative light intensity method,the thickness maps of the grease-lubricated film were calculated from the interferometer images captured by the two microscopes.The test results revealed that the grease thickener’s formulation had remarkable effects on film formation and the perturbation of film thickness.For the lithium-based grease,the film’s thickness near the two ends of the roller was prone to severe perturbation caused by the conglomeration of clumps that were hard to shear.For the aluminum-complex-based grease,the fibers tended to accumulate in the middle of the roller rather than at the two ends.The urea-based grease could be easily sheared into smaller particles.In addition to the straight-line profile rollers,the logarithmic profile rollers were tested and found to effectively enhance the axial grease flow,increase the axial shear stress,and thus shear more fibers into particles within the contact area.Zhijian WANG Xuejin SHEN Xiaoyang CHEN Dehua TAO Lei SHI Shuangbiao LIU 2019Friction2019,7,3:2
5Tribological behavior of layered double hydroxides with various chemical compositions and morphologies as grease additives显示文摘The layered double hydroxide(LDH)is a kind of natural mineral,which can also be manually prepared.It has been practically applied in various fields due to its unique crystal structure and diversity of composition,size,and morphology.In this work,LDHs with different chemical compositions(Co^(2+),Mg^(2+),Zn^(2+),and Ni^(2+))and topographical features(flower‐like,spherical,and plate‐like)were successfully prepared by controlling the reaction conditions.Then,they were mechanically dispersed into base grease and their tribological properties were evaluated by a ball‐on‐disk tester under a contact pressure of 2.47 GPa.It was found that the variation of morphology,instead of chemical composition,had great influence on the tribological performance.The“flower‐like”LDH sample with high specific surface area(139 m^(2)/g)was demonstrated to show the best performance.With 1 wt%additive,the wear volume was only about 0.2%of that lubricated by base grease.The tribofilm with unique microscopic structure and uniform composition was derived from tribochemical reaction between LDH additives and sliding solid surfaces,effectively improving tribological properties of the lubrication system.This work provided the guidance for optimizing lubricant additives and held great potential in future applications.ongdong WANG Yue WANG Yuhong LIU Jun ZHAO Jinjin LI Qiang WANG Jianbin LUO 2021Friction2021,9,5:2
6Hydrothermal-assisted grinding route for WS_(2) quantum dots(QDs)from nanosheets with preferable tribological performance显示文摘The 2 D nanomaterials have achieved the superlubrication property whatever in solid or liquid lubrication in recent years.However,whether or not the nanosheets can stably disperse in oils and smoothly enter into the asperity of friction pairs is crucial for exerting the function of antifriction.The structure of 2 D QDs is desirable for addressing these issues due to its smaller 3 D size.In this study,we developed a facile preparation process for WS_(2) QDs with uniform 2 nm size from nanosheets via hydrothermal-assisted grinding approach.The structure of the as-obtained WS_(2) QDs was determined by a series of characterizations.The results showed that the as-obtained WS_(2) QDs exhibited the typical spectrum features of nanosized quantum dot.The results of the tribological performance in grease verified that the average friction coefficient(ACOFs) and wear volume(AWVs) were decreased by 7.89% and 63.90%relative to grease,respectively,exhibiting a preferable friction reducing and wear resistance.Zhi-Lin Cheng Lu Ma Zan Liu 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,1:2
7Surface Modified TiO2 Nanoparticles-an Effective Anti-wear and Anti-friction Additive for Lubricating Grease显示文摘The surface modified TiO_2 nanoparticles were prepared by using 12-hydroxystearic acid chemically modified on the TiO_2 surface. The average size of the TiO_2 particles is about 30 nm. The optimum ratio of tetrabutyl titanate to 12-hydroxystearic acid was 1/0.5. The bonding form between 12-hydroxystearic acid and TiO_2 nucleus was investigated by FTIR, DSC, TGA and XRD techniques. The lubricating grease containing the surface modified TiO_2 nanoparticles possesses excellent anti-wear and anti-friction properties. 8Wear mechanism of heavy load friction contact pairs in tracked vehicle by combined ferrography and surface analysis显示文摘Ferrography is deemed as one of the most effective methods for wear particle analysis and failure diagnosis. By analyzing the configuration, content and composition of wear particles in the lubricanting grease and the surface state of the worn surface with combined ferrography and surface analysis techniques, the wear mechanism of the ball groove of the master clutch's release device of a heavy load tracked vehicle was determined. 9A kinetic model for a single step biodiesel production from a high free fatty acid (FFA) biodiesel feedstock over a solid heteropolyacid catalyst显示文摘Production of biodiesel from yellow grease(waste cooking oil and waste animal fats) is fast emerging as a promising alternative to address the twin challenges before the biodiesel industry today-fluctuation in prices of vegetable oil and the food versus fuel debate. Yellow grease has a high percentage of free fatty acids(FFA) and proves to be an unsuitable feedstock for biodiesel production from commercially viable alkalicatalyzed production systems due to saponification problems.'Green' methodologies based on heterogeneous solid acid catalyzed reactions have the potential to simultaneously promote esterification and transesterification reactions of yellow grease to produce biodiesel without soap formation and offer easy catalyst separation without generation of toxic streams. This paper presents kinetic studies for the conversion of model yellow grease feeds to biodiesel using a heteropolyacid supported on alumina(HSiW/Al2O3) using a batch autoclave. Three model yellow grease feeds were prepared using canola oil with added FFA such as palmitic, oleic and linoleic acid. A pseudo homogeneous kinetic model for the parallel esterification and transesterification was developed. The rate constants and activation parameters for esterification and transesterification reactions for the model yellow grease feeds were determined. The rate constants for esterification are higher than the transesterification rate constants. The kinetic model was validated using the experimental biodiesel data obtained from processing a commercial yellow grease feed. 10Study on Rheological Characteristics of a Grease Used in High Speed Bearing显示文摘On a self-made super-high shear strain rate rheometer, the rheological characteristics and apparent viscosity curves of a high-speed bearing grease were obtained under different working conditions. A new grease rheological model suited to a shear strain rate range of 0—3.5×10~6s^(-1) was presented. The results showed that the shear stress increased linearly at first and then increased nonlinearly with the increase in shear strain rate up to 1.5×10~6s^(-1), and finally the shear stress decreased slightly with the successive increase in shear strain rate. The shear stress increased with a decreasing rolling speed and an increasing contact pressure. The apparent viscosity decreased rapidly with the increase of shear strain rate at beginning and could approach the viscosity of the base oil if the shear strain rate surpassed 1.5×10~6s^(-1). 14Preparation of Overbased Calcium Alkylbenzene Sulfonate for Formulating Complex Sulfonate Grease显示文摘Six kinds of alkylbenzene sulfonic acids were selected to prepare the sulfonates S1—S6. Among them, the sulfonates S3, S4, and S6 could be incorporated into lubricating grease with good performance in comparison with the grease produced from commercial sulfonates T106-1 and T106-2. The optimized conditions for synthesis of the sulfonates S3, S4, and S6 were explored by using different mass ratios of methanol, water and the type of copromoters. It was found out that the appropriate conditions for synthesis of the sulfonate S3 included a methanol to M(M is the total mass of alkylbenzene sulfonic acid and base oil) mass ratio of 16%, a water to M mass ratio of 4%, and a copromoter A to M mass ratio of 2%; the appropriate conditions for synthesis of the sulfonate S4 included a methanol to M mass ratio of 24%, a water to M mass ratio of 2%, a copromoter B to M mass ratio of 2%; and the optimized conditions for synthesis of the sulfonate S6 included a methanol/ M mass ratio of 8%, a water/M mass ratio of 4% and a copromoter B/M mass ratio of 2%. The new sulfonates S3, S4, and S6 produced under the optimized conditions exhibited higher TBN and better antiwear property in camparison with the previous products. 15Numerical Visualization of Grease Flow in a Gearbox显示文摘Lubricating greases are widely used in e.g.open gear drives and gearboxes with difficult sealing conditions.The efficiency and heat balance of grease-lubricated gearboxes depend strongly on the lubrication mechanisms channeling and circulating,for which the grease flow is causal.The computational fluid dynamics opens up the possibility to visualize and understand the grease flow in gearboxes in more detail.In this study,a single-stage gearbox lubricated with an NLGI 1-2 grease was modeled by the finite-volume method to numerically investigate the fluid flow.Results show that the rotating gears influence the grease sump only locally around the gears.For a low grease fill volume,the rotation of the gears is widely separated from the grease sump.For a high grease fill volume,a pronounced geargrease interaction results in a circulating grease flow around the gears.The simulated grease distributions show good accordance with high-speed camera recordings.Hua Liu Florian Dangl Thomas Lohner Karsten Stahl 2023Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2023,36,2:0
16Assessing workability of greased bearings after long-term storage显示文摘Here, we developed a technique to assess the workability of sealed-for-life greased rolling bearings after a long-term storage. In this framework, we devised a model of equivalent transition between the conditions of natural ageing under daily and seasonally fluctuating temperature, and the conditions of accelerated thermal ageing at a constant high temperature. The tested bearings were thermally aged, and then their steady state friction and outer ring temperature were examined in a custom high-speed spindle. These results were compared to the performance of a reference new bearing tested under the same loading conditions. Our findings suggest that long-term storage can significantly degrade the performance of sealed-for-life greased rolling bearings. 17Study on Preparation and Properties of Grease Based on Ultrafine Bentonite Powder显示文摘The feasibility for preparation of ultrafine bentonite powder by different milling methods was studied. And the comparison of comprehensive performance between ultrafine bentonite grease and traditional bentonite grease was also investigated. The results indicated that the statistic Z-average size of ultrafine bentonite prepared by sand milling was 250 nm with a narrow size distribution and the lattice structure of ultrafine bentonite maintained good character despite a slight distortion occasioned.
