| 1 | Epidemiology, genetics and treatments for myopia显示文摘· Myopia is a significant public health problem and its prevalence is increasing over time and genetic factors in disease development are important. The prevalence and incidence of myopia within sampled population often varies with age, country, sex, race, ethnicity, occupation, environment, and other factors. Myopia growth is under a combination of genes and their products in time and space to complete the coordination role of the guidance. Myopia-related genes include about 70 genetic loci to which primary myopias have been mapped, although the number is constantly increasing and depends to some extent on definition. Of these, several are associated with additional abnormalities, mostly as part of developmental syndromes. These tend to result from mutations in genes encoding transcriptional activators, and most of these have been identified by sequencing candidate genes in patients with developmental anomalies. Currently, collagen alpha-1 chain of type I(COL1A1), collagen alpha-1 chain of type II(COL2A1), actin, alpha, cardiac muscle 1(ACTC1), paired box gene 6(PAX6) and NIPBL (nipped-B homolog), and so on have been mapped. Myopia is most commonly treated with spectacles or glasses. The most common surgical procedure performed to correct myopia is laser keratomileusis (LASIK). | 2 | Outcomes and possible risk factors associated with axis alignment and rotational stability after implantation of the Toric implantable collamer lens for high myopic astigmatism显示文摘·AIM:To assess the visual outcomes and possible risk factors associated with axis alignment and rotational stability after implantation of Toric implantable collamer lens (TICL) for the correction of high myopic astigmatism. ·METHODS:In this prospective, nonrandomized clinical study, 54 consecutive eyes of 29 patients with high myopic astigmatism received TICL implantation. To evaluate postoperative axis deviation from the intended axis, a digital anterior segment photograph was taken. The ultrasound biomicroscopy(UBM) was used to observe footplate-position. ·RESULTS:After mean follow-up of 8.6 months, mean manifest refractive cylinder (MRC) decreased 79.3% from (-1.88±1.49)D preoperatively to (0.39±0.61)D postoperatively. MRC within 1.00D occurred in 68.5% (37/54) of eyes, whereas 48.1% (26/54) had MRC within 0.50D. Mean manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) changed from (-12.08±4.22)D preoperatively to (-0.41±0.61)D postoperatively. Uncorrected binocular vision of 20/20 or better occurred in 72.2%(39/54) of patients compared with binocular best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of 20/20 or better in 44.4% (24/54) preoperatively. The mean difference between intended and achieved TICL axes was (6.96±8.37)°. Footplates of TICLs were in the ciliary sulcus in 22 eyes (46.3%), below the ciliary sulcus in 32 eyes (53.7%). The angle of TICL rotation had significant correlation with the footplates-position (t =2.127; P =0.045) and the postoperative TICL vaulting (r =-0.516; P =0.000). ·CONCLUSION:The results of our study further support the safety, efficacy and predictability of TICL for the correct high myopic astigmatism. | 3 | Expressions of type I collagen, α2 integrin and β1 integrin in sclera of guinea pig with defocus myopia and inhibitory effects of bFGF on the formation of myopia显示文摘AIM:To investigate the expressions of type I collagen, α2 integrin and β1 integrin in the posterior sclera of guinea pigs with defocus myopia and whether basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) injection inhibits the formation and development of myopia by upregulating the expression of type I collagen, α2 integrin and β1 integrin. METHODS:After 14 days of treatment, the refractive state and axial length were measured and the levels of type I collagen, α2 integrin and β1 integrin were assayed in the posterior sclerae of groups of guinea pigs that wore a monocular-7D polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) lens or had -7D lens wear followed by the peribulbar injection of Phosphate Buffer Solution (PBS) or bFGF. The untreated fellow eye served as a control. Guinea pigs with no treatment served as normal group. ·RESULTS:The results showed that 14 days of monocular defocus increased axial eye length and refraction, while bFGF delivery inhibited them markedly. Further, it was also found that the monocular-7D lens could decrease the levels of type I collagen, α2 integrin and β1 integrin expressions, while, unlike PBS, bFGF increased them significantly in comparison to contralateral control eyes and normal eyes. CONCLUSION:bFGF can prevent the formation anddevelopment of defocus myopia by upregulating the expressions of type I collagen, α2 integrin and β1 integrin. | 4 | Long-term vision-threatening complications of phakic intraocular lens implantation for high myopia显示文摘AIM:To report the long-term vision-threatening complications in patients who underwent phakic intraocular lens(pIOLs)implantation for high myopia.METHODS:Thisstudywasdesignedfromaconsecutive series of phakic intraocular lens complication and corrective surgeries.Sixteen eyes of 13 patients had implantation of phakic intraocular lens for correction high myopia and developed serious complications have been included in this study.The mean age of patients was 38.6±6.35y(range 32-50y)and the mean time of history of pIOL implantation for high myopia was 6±2y(range 2-10y).Before corrective surgery,best spectaclecorrective visual acuity(BSCVA)ranged from perception to 20/200 in the eyes in which severe complications occurred.RESULTS:Corneal decompensation occurred in 12eyes of 9 high myopic patients after anterior chamber pIOL implantation.Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD)occurred in 4 eyes of 4 high myopic patients following anterior chamber and posterior chamber pIOL implantation.Patients with corneal decompensation,had combined procedures consisting of pIOL removal and penetrating keratoplasty(PKP).Removals of pIOL,phacoemulsification and pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)with silicone oil tamponade were performed in patients with RRD.After corrective surgeries,all patients but one(P+,patient 2,right eye)achieved moderate BSCVA ranged from 20/200 to 20/50 at the last visit.CONCLUSION:Phakic IOLs may be effective for thecorrection of high myopia.Although these IOLs may have severe complications and it affects safety and efficacy of this surgery.As seen here,corneal decompensation and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment are possible postoperative vision-threatening complications of phakic IOLs.Patients must be carefully examined before and after surgery for possible endothelial cell loss and vitreoretinal problems. | Isil Bahar Sayman Muslubas Baran Kandemir Ayse Yesim Aydin Oral Suleyman Kugu Metin Dastan | 2014 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2014,7,2: | 14 |
| 5 | The diluted atropine for inhibition of myopia progression in Korean children显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of three different concentrations of diluted atropine for the control of myopia in Korean children,and to assess the risk factors associated with rapid myopia progression.METHODS:A total of 285 children,with refractive errors within the range of-6 diopters(D)between 5 and 14 years of age were included.After using 0.01%,or 0.025%,or 0.05% atropine,for about 1y,changes in refraction,axial lengths and frequency of adverse events were analyzed.Logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the risk factors associated with rapid myopia progression.RESULTS:The changes in the mean spherical equivalent values were -0.134 D/mo in the before atropine group,-0.070 D/mo in the 0.01% atropine group,-0.047 D/mo in the 0.025% atropine group,and -0.019 D/mo in the 0.05% atropine group,with significant differences between the groups(P<0.001).The axial elongation was 0.046 mm/mo,0.037 mm/mo,0.025 mm/mo,and 0.019 mm/mo respectively,with significant differences between the groups(P=0.003).The incidence of photophobia and near vision difficulty was not different among the three atropine groups(P=0.425and P=0.356,respectively).Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that only highly myopic parents were a significant predictive factor of rapid myopia progression in Korean children(odds ratio,8.155;95% confidence interval,3.626-18.342;P<0.001).CONCLUSION:Treatment with 0.01%,0.025% and 0.05% atropine solution inhibits myopia progression in Korean children in a dose-dependent manner.Children with highly myopic parents preferentially shows a rapid myopia progression rate. | Ji-Sun Moon Sun Young Shin | 2018 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2018,11,10: | 14 |
| 6 | Clinical outcomes of small incision lenticule extraction versus femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK for myopia: a Meta-analysis显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the possible differences in visual quality between small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE) and femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis(FS-LASIK) for myopia.METHODS: A Meta-analysis was performed. Patients were from previously reported comparative studies treated with SMILE versus FS-LASIK. The Pub Med, EMBASE, Cochrane, Web of Science and Chinese databases(i.e. WANFANG and CNKI) were searched in Nov. of 2016 using Rev Man 5.1 version software. The differences in visual acuity, aberration and biomechanical effects within six months postoperatively were showed. Twenty-seven studies including 4223 eyes were included. RESULTS: No significant differences were observed between SMILE and FS-LASIK in terms of the proportion of eyes that lost one or more lines of corrected distance visual acuity after surgery(P=0.14), the proportion of eyes achieving an uncorrected distance visual acuity of 20/20 or better(P=0.43), the final refractive spherical equivalent(P=0.89), the refractive spherical equivalent within ±1.00 diopter of the target values(P=0.80), vertical coma(P=0.45) and horizontal coma(P=0.06). Compared with the FSLASIK group, total higher-order aberration(P<0.001) and spherical aberration(P<0.001) were higher and the decrease in corneal hysteresis(P=0.0005) and corneal resistance factor(P=0.02) were lower in the SMILE group. | 7 | Transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy mode using SCHWIND-ESIRIS excimer laser:initial clinical results显示文摘AIM:To evaluate postoperative pain,uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA),and cornea haze value after transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy(T-PRK) performed with aspherical ablation profile using SCHWIND ESIRIS excimer laser.· METHODS:Retrospective case series.Fifty-nine eyes(32 patients) with myopia associated with or without astigmatism underwent phototherapeutic keratectomy(PTK) followed by photorefractive keratectomy(PRK) which performed by Optimized Refractive Keratecomy(ORK)-CAM software based on aspherical ablation profile using SCHWIND ESIRIS excimer laser.Postoperative pain scale was measured on a questionnaire through five levels.Haze was graded by five grades,and UCVA,manifest refraction spherical equivalent(MRSE) were analyzed.· RESULTS:Mean pain level was(1.37±0.613)(range:1 to 3),the mean time picking out the soft contact lens was(6.22±1.73) days,at 3 months,UCVA was 1.0 for 40 eyes(67.8%),0.5 for all eyes(100.0%).The UCVA was significantly less than the preoperative best spectacle corrected visual acuity(BSCVA)(t =-2.84,P =0.006),haze value was(0.27±0.25),no patients had a haze grade up to 2.Mean MRSE was(0.76±0.96) diopter(D) by 3 months.· CONCLUSION:The outcomes from this study show that using the SCHWIND ESIRIS aspherical ablation profile for transepithelial PRK has a good visual result.The primary advantage is related to a spherical ablation profile,automatically considers the ablation volume of the stroma and the accurate and smooth removal of the epithelium with PTK.Additional studies are needed to determine long-term outcomes. | Dong-Mei Wang, Jian-Feng He | 2012 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2012,5,3: | 12 |

Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is the most commonly reported type of glaucoma in population based prevalence studies worldwide. Elevated intraocular pressure is a well-known major risk factor for POAG. In addition, there is growing evidence that other risk factors like age, gender, race, refractive error, heredity and systemic factors may play a role in glaucoma pathogenesis. | 9 | Modulation of TGFβ_2 and dopamine by PKC in retinal Müller cells of guinea pig myopic eye显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effect of protein kinase C (PKC) on transforming growth factor-β2 (TGFβ2) and dopamine in retinal Müller cells of guinea pig myopic eye. METHODS: Myopia was induced by translucent goggles in guinea pig, whose retinal Müller cells were cultured using the enzyme-digesting method. Retinal Müller cells were divided into 5 groups: normal control, myopia, myopia plus GF109203X, myopia plus PMA, myopia plus DMSO. PKC activities were detected by the non-radioactive methods. TGFβ2 and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) proteins were analyzed by Western Blotting in retinal Müller cells. Dopamine was determined by the high-performance liquid chromatography- electrochemical detection in suspensions. RESULTS: After 14 days deprived, the occluded eyes became myopic with ocular axle elongating. Müller cells of guinea pigs were obtained using enzyme digestion. Compared with normal control group, the increase in PKC activity and the up-regulation in TGFβ2 expression were found in retinal Müller cells of myopic eyes, with the decrease of TH and dopamine content (P <0.05). After PKC activated by PMA, TGFβ2 and TH content were up-regulated with the increase of dopamine content (P <0.05). While the PKC activities was inhibited by GF109203X, proteins of TGFβ2 and TH were down-regulated in the myopic eyes, with the decrease of dopamine content (P <0.05). | 11 | Comparison of correcting myopia and astigmatism with SMILE or FS-LASIK and postoperative higher-order aberrations显示文摘AIM:To compare the effect of myopia and astigmatism correction and postoperative change in higher-order aberration as results of receiving small-incision lenticule extraction(SMILE)and femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis(FS-LASIK).METHODS:A prospective and non-randomized controlled study was conducted.The subjects are divided into two groups according to different operations received:229 eyes of 116 patients in the SMILE group and 168 eyes of 86 patients in the FS-LASIK group.All subjects were followed up for 3 mo by monitoring their uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA),best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),spherical equivalent,higher-order aberrations,and the preoperative and postoperative complications.RESULTS:At 1 wk,1,and 3 mo post-surgery,224 eyes(97.8%),227 eyes(99.1%)and 229 eyes(100%)had UCVA≥20/20 in the SMILE group,while 165 eyes(98.2%),167 eyes(99.4%)and 167 eyes(99.4%)had UCVA≥20/20 in the FS-LASIK group,respectively(χ^(2)=0.146,2.135,and 1.124;all P>0.05).BCVA reduction was not observed in both groups at 1 and 3 mo of post-surgery(χ^(2)=0.734 and 1.898,P>0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the spherical equivalent between the two groups at 1 and 3 mo post-surgery,though the percentage of the spherical equivalent within±0.50 D at 3 mo postsurgery was 98%in the SMILE group,which was higherthan that of the FS-LASIK group(92%,χ^(2)=1.872,P>0.05).The root mean square(RMS)values of total high-order aberration,coma,and spherical aberration of the two groups increased significantly in the early postoperative period and decreased after 3 mo,but the values were still higher than the preoperative levels(P<0.05);there was no significant difference between the two groups in the RMS values of total higher-order aberrations and specific higherorder aberrations(P>0.05).The incidence of complications in the SMILE group was lower than that in the FS-LASIK group(χ^(2)=14.52,P<0.05).CONCLUSION:SMILE and FS-LASIK can effectively treat myopia,significantly improve visual acuity,and increase the total high-order aberration,spherical aberration,and coma.The incidence of complications after SMILE is relatively low. | Peng-Fei Zhao Ya-Bin Flu Yue Wang Cai-Yun Fu Jing Zhang Chang-Bin Zhai | 2021 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2021,14,4: | 10 |
| 12 | Expressions of cellular retinoic acid binding proteins I and retinoic acid receptor-β in the guinea pig eyes with experimental myopia显示文摘·AIM:All-trans retinoic acid (RA) is the only extrinsic biochemical candidate known to date that could act as a growth controller,the aim of this study was to investigate the expression cellular retinoic acid binding proteins I (CRABP-I) and retinoic acid receptor-β (RAR-β) in retina of the guinea pig eyes with experimental myopia.·METHODS:Ninety guinea pigs aged 14 days were equally and randomly divided into three groups:form deprivation (FD),-5D lens,and control.The diffusers for FD were white translucent hemispheres,and-5D lenses were used to introduce hyperopic defocus.Refraction was measured with streak retinoscopy after cycloplegia,and axial length was calculated with Cinescan A/B ultrasonography.Retina harvested at different time points were used to measure RA level with HPLC and expressions of cellular retinoic acid binding proteins I (CRABP-I) and RA receptor-β (RAR-β) were assayed with Western blot and Real-time PCR.SPSS13.0 software was used for statistical analysis.·RESULTS:Up-regulations of CRABP-I and RAR-β in ocular tissues correlated with changes in the refractive status and growth rate of the guinea pig eye (P <0.05).14 days of monocular form-deprivation led to-5.14D myopia and a 0.281mm axial elongation;14 days of monocular defocus produced-3.64D myopia and a 0.163 mm axial elongation.The level of retinal RA started to elevate in 7 days (P <0.05) after visual manipulation in both FD and-5D lens groups and became more prominent by 14 days (P <0.01).The expressions of CRABP-I and RAR-β increased by 14 days after visual manipulation (P <0.05),the mRNA level of RAR-β,however,increased by 7 days after visual manipulation (P <0.05),which suggested that changes of expressions of CRABP-I and RAR-β might lag behind the change of RA.·CONCLUSION:The levels of CRABP-I and RAR-β were elevated in retina of the guinea pig eye with experimental myopia.During the progression of experimental myopia,the retinal RA level increased rapidly,and there might be a positive feedback between the increase of RA and up-regulation of RAR-β.· | Jia Huang Xiao-Mei Qu and Ren-Yuan Chu | 2011 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2011,4,2: | 10 |
| 13 | Effects of higher-order aberrations on contrast sensitivity in normal eyes of a large myopic population显示文摘AIM: To study the relation between higher-order aberrations(HOAs) and contrast sensitivity(CS) in normal eyes among a population of laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK) candidates. METHODS: In 6629 eyes of 3315 LASIK candidates, CS were measured under dark environment at the spatial frequencies of 1.5, 3, 6, 12 and 18 cycles per degree(c/d), respectively, using an Optec 6500 visual function tester. Meanwhile, ocular HOAs were measured for a 6.0 mm pupil with a Hartmann-Shack wavefront analyzer. RESULTS: In the study, the subjects with an average spherical equivalent of -4.86±2.07 D were included. HOAs decreased from the third to the sixth order aberrations with predominant aberrations of third-order coma, trefoil and fourth-order spherical aberration. At low and moderate spatial frequencies, CS was negatively correlated with the third-order coma and trefoil aberrations, and decreased with increasing Z_3~1, but increased with increasing Z_3^(-3) and Z_5^(-1). At high spatial frequencies, CS decreased with increasing Z_3^(-3) and increased with increasing Z_5^(-1). CONCLUSION: At a large pupil size of 6.0 mm, the thirdorder aberrations, but not the total aberrations, are the main factors affecting CS. | 14 | Comparison of OA-2000 and IOL Master 500 using in cataract patients with high myopia显示文摘This study was designed to compare optical biometry measurements and predicted refraction in cataract patients with high myopia [axial length(AL) ≥26 mm] using OA-2000 and IOL Master 500. Ocular biometry measurements were performed using both biometers before surgery. Uneventful cataract surgery was performed in all patients. Postoperative manifest refraction was obtained 3 wk after surgery or later. A total of 67 eyes were examined. The AL, keratometry(K), and anterior chamber depth(ACD) of the two biometers showed excellent agreement. Predicted errors were similar and a strong positive correlation was observed(r=0.909). Out of 21 eyes(31.34%) with unsuccessful AL readings using the IOL Master 500, 20 eyes of them could be measured using OA-2000. Therefore, the biometric parameters measured by the two biometers showed good agreement. | 15 | Myopia induced by flickering light in guinea pigs: a detailed assessment on susceptibility of different frequencies显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effectiveness and feasibility of inducing myopia in guinea pigs by flickering light (FL) stimulation with different frequencies. METHODS: Seventy 2 -week-old guinea pigs were randomly assigned to six groups: five FL groups and a control group (n =12 for each). Animals in the five FL groups were raised under 500lx illumination with a duty diurnal cycle of 50% at a flash rate of 5, 1, 0.5, 0.25 and 0.1Hz respectively. Those in the control group were reared under steady 250lx illumination. Refraction, axial length, and radius of curvature were measured before and at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 weeks after treatment. At week 12, the eyeballs were taken out and three ocular dimensions and dry weight of sclera were measured. RESULTS: A myopic shift and axial eye length increase developed in the five FL groups. Stimulation at 0.5Hz caused greater changes in myopic shift, axial elongation, eyeball dimension, and dry weight of sclera than stimulation at other frequencies. Compared with controls, eyes in 0.5Hz group were approximately -5.5 ±1.5D more myopic with increase in horizontal, vertical, axial dimensions by 0.89 ±0.3mm, 0.69 ±0.2mm, 1.12 ±0.2mm respectively and with increase in dry weight of sclera by 0.44mg. CONCLUSION: Chronic exposure to periodic illumination at temporal frequency is attended by development of excessive ocular enlargement and myopic refractive error. | 16 | Rapid bilateral anterior capsule contraction following high myopic cataract surgeries:a case report显示文摘·We describe a rapid anterior capsule contraction following phacoemulsifiction and intraocular lens(IOL) implantation in an old woman with high myopia.The patient with high myopia complicated with cataract received phacoemulc-ification and IOL implantation bilaterally.The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) improved from 0.1 to 0.4 in the right eye and 0.5 in the left eye 1 week after surgeries.5 weeks after surgery of the right eye and 4 weeks after surgery of the left eye,the patient complained blurred vision in the right eye.BCVA of the right eye was 0.06 and that of the left was 0.1.Slit-lamp examination revealed anterior capsule contraction in both eyes and a fully closed capsulorhexis opening in the right eye.The IOLs were centered but almost completely enclosed,with numerous linear fibrous folds radiating from the hick central fibrosis.We surgically excised the central part of the anterior capsule of the eyes with microscissors,resulting again in BCVA of 0.4 and 0.5 in the right and left eyes respectively.Anterior capsule contraction might appear much earlier than three months after phacoemulsification and IOL implantation surgery in case of high myopia complicated with cataract.Patients with high myopia receive cataract and IOL surgery should be monitored carefully for the rapid development of anterior capsule contraction.· | Wei Xiao Dai-Xin Zhao and Long-Quan Xue | 2011 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2011,4,2: | 9 |
| 17 | Retinoic acid metabolic change in retina and choroid of the guinea pig with lens-induced myopia显示文摘AIM: To investigate the role of retinoic acid (RA) and retinaldehyde dehydrogenase-2 (RALDH2) of retina and choroid in the guinea pig lens-induced myopic eyes. METHODS: Totally 45 guinea pigs, at age of three weeks, were randomly assigned into three groups: the normal control, the lens-induced group and the recovering group. Out of focus was induced by the -6.00D concave lens on the left eye, and lasted for 15 days. All animals underwent biometric measurement (corneal radius of curvature, refraction and axial length). Subsequently, RA content in the retina and RPE/choriod complex was detected by reversed- phase high-performance liquid chromatography. RALDH2 protein in the retina and RPE/choriod complex was evaluated by the immunohistochemical staining and Western blotting. RESULTS: After wearing -6.00D lens for 15 days, axial length of the lens-induced eye extends and myopia was formed, with RA contents increasing in both the neural retina and RPE/choroid complex. Comparing with the lens-induced group, myopic degree significantly relieved, and its RA contents in both the neural retina and RPE/choroid complex decreased in the recovering group. In the normal control, RALDH2 protein was expressed positively in the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), inner plexiform layer (IPL) and lateral border of outer nuclear layer (ONL). Retinal RALDH2 protein increased in the lens-induced group, and was also positive in the outer plexiform layer (OPL). In the recovering group, retinal RALDH2 protein attenuated the expression in the OPL turns to negative. RALDH2 protein was not expressed in the choroid of any group. | 18 | Analysis of the clinical characteristics and refraction state in premature infants: a 10-year retrospective analysis显示文摘AIM: To report the visual outcomes and refractive status in premature infants with and without retinopathy of prematurity(ROP) who were or not treated. METHODS: The clinical records of all premature infants with or without ROP and with or without treatment between 2007 and 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Basic demographic data, serial changes in ROP incidence, treatment and outcomes, and the refractive states were analyzed. Correlations among myopia and astigmatism progression, birth weight, gestational age, and treatment methods were also analyzed.RESULTS: A total of 562 screened premature infants(all Chinese, 1124 eyes), were recruited with a 378:184 maleto-female ratio. Birth weight did not directly influence ROP incidence. The overall ROP incidence was 16.55%(93/562 cases). The incidences in boys and girls were 16.14%(33/378 cases) and 17.39%(32/184 cases), respectively, and this difference was not significant. However, all infants with serious ROP(stage IV and V) were male. Myopia combined with astigmatism was common in premature infants with and without ROP(30.99%, 172/555 cases), and myopic refraction(including myopia and myopia combined with astigmatism) was more common in premature infants with ROP(48.84%, 42/86 cases). In the >8.00 diopter group, there were significantly more ROP infants than without ROP. Myopic refraction(including myopia and myopia combined with astigmatism) was most common in infants with ROP after treatment(63.63%, 7/11 cases). CONCLUSION: The refractive state is different between premature infants and mature infants. | 19 | Posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation for high myopia显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the efficacy,safety and stability of posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation for the correction of high myopia.METHODS:Retrospective case review of 82 eyes(43patients)undergoing implantable Coliamer lens(ICL)placement by a single surgeon(Xiao-Wei Gao)to correct preoperative mean spherical equivalents between-9.00diopter(D)and-23.00D.Main outcome measures included uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA),refraction,best spectacle-corrected visual acuity(BSCVA),endothelial cell density(ECD),intraocular pressure(IOP),lens transparency,postoperative uveitis.Visante anterior segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT)was used to measure anterior chamber depth(ACD)and the position of ICL.RESULTS:Mean follow-up was 6.54±3.26 months(range 3-12 months).Predictability of the manifest spherical equivalent(SE)refraction to within±1.OOD was achieved in 88%of eyes and±0.50D in 72.5%of eyes.The mean postoperative manifest SE refraction was-1.85±0.72D,with 96.34%of eyes maintaining or gaining≥1 line(s)of BSCVA.The mean 3-month postoperative ECD decreased but had no statistically difference compared with the preoperative ECD.Of the 7 eyes(8.54%)with a mild transient increase in intraocular pressure(up to 30mmHg),none required a second surgical procedure or prolonged topical medication.There was no loss of lens transparency.Pigmented precipitates were observed in 5 eyes(6.09%).The mean preoperative ACD measured with AS-OCT was 3.28±0.14mm,three months after surgery,the mean ACD was2.45±0.22mm.Anterior chamber depth showed astatistically significant reduction.One eye(1.22%)had ICL spontaneous rotation,81 eyes(98.78%)of the lens remained correctly centered.CONCLUSION:The implantation of ICL is an effective surgical option for the management of high myopia.But its long time effect and safety still need more time to prove. | Yan Ju Xiao-Wei Gao Bing Ren | 2013 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2013,6,6: | 7 |
| 20 | The measurement of time spent outdoors in child myopia research: a systematic review显示文摘The purpose of this article is to summarize the methods most commonly used to measure time spent outdoors and provide a comprehensive review of time and activity recording methods with the aim of encouraging the development of new methods. Pub Med, Embase and the Cochrane Library were searched from Jan. 1 st, 1990 to Aug. 31 th, 2017. Studies including the following specific terms: 'outdoor', 'outside', 'outdoor activity', 'outside activity', 'outdoor time', 'outside time', and 'outdoor AND measurement of time spent outdoors' were considered for this review. In total, three kinds of outdoor time measurements were discussed. Questionnaires have the longest history and are the most thoroughly revised instruments for assessing time spent outdoors, but recall bias is their most substantial drawback. Global positioning system(GPS) tracking can distinguish between indoor and outdoor locations, but its utility is limited due to several factors such as subject compatibility. Light exposure measurement devices are newly emerging, but all of these devices require good subject cooperation. Further efforts and exploration are needed to develop better methods and new tools to record exposure to the outdoors in real time.
