Aging Precipitation Behavior of 18Cr-16Mn-2Mo-1.1N High Nitrogen Austenitic Stainless Steel and Its Influences on Mechanical Properties显示文摘The solution-treated (ST) condition and aging precipitation behavior of 18Cr-16Mn-2Mo-1.1N high nitrogen austenitic stainless steel (HNS) were investigated by optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results show that the ST condition of 18Cr-16Mn-2Mo-1.1N HNS with wN above 1% is identified as 1 100 ℃ for 90 min, followed by water quenching to make sure the secondary phases completely dissolve into austenitic matrix and prevent the grains coarsening too much. Initial time-temperature-precipitation (TTP) curve of aged 18Cr-16Mn-2Mo-1.1N HNS which starts with precipitation of 0.05% in volume fraction is defined and the 'nose' temperature of precipitation is found to be 850 ℃ with an incubation period of 1 min. Hexagonal intergranular and cellular Cr2N with a=0.478 nm and c=0.444 nm precipitates gradually increase in the isothermal aging treatment. The matrix nitrogen depletion due to the intergranular and a few cellular Cr2N precipitates induces the decay of Vickers hardness, and the increment of cellular Cr2N causes the increase in the values. Impact toughness presents a monotonic decrease and SEM morphologies show the leading brittle intergranular fracture. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS), yield strength (YS) and elongation (El) deteriorate obviously. Stress concentration occurs when the matrix dislocations pile up at the interfaces of precipitation and matrix, and the interfacial dislocations may become precursors to the misfit dislocations, which can form small cleavage facets and accelerate the formation of cracks. | LI Hua-bing, JIANG Zhou-hua, FENG Hao, MA Qi-feng, ZHAN Dong-ping (School of Materials and Metallurgy, Northeastern University, Shenyang 110819, Liaoning, China) | 2012 | Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2012,19,8: | 10
Optimizing mechanical property and cytocompatibility of the biodegradable Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy by hot extrusion and heat treatment显示文摘The Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy is a new type of degradable material for biomedical application. In the present study, Mg-6Zn-1.2Y-0.8Nd alloy was fabricated, and then extrusion and heat treatment were conducted to optimize its mechanical properties and cytocompatibility. The microstructure observation, mechanical property, degradation behavior and cytocompatibility tests were conducted on the Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy with three different states: as-cast(alloy C), as-extruded(alloy E) and extruded + heat treated(alloy EH).The results show that alloy C consists of coarse grains and continuous secondary phases. The extrusion process has caused incomplete recrystallization, and results in a mixed grain structure of elongated grains and small equiaxed grains(alloy E). The heat treatment process has promoted the recrystallization and homogenized the grain structure(alloy EH). Both the strength and ductility of the alloy has been improved by extrusion, but the following heat treatment has decreased the strength and increased the ductility. The degradation behavior of the alloy C and E alloys does not show much difference, but improves slightly in alloy EH, because the heat treatment has homogenized the microstructure and released the residual stress in the alloy. The directly and indirectly cell viability tests indicate that alloy EH exhibits the best cytocompatibility, which should be ascribed to its relative uniform degradation and low ion releasing rate. In summary, the combination of hot extrusion and heat treatment could optimize the mechanical property and cytocompatibility of the Mg-Zn-Y-Nd alloy together, which is beneficial for the future application of the alloy. | Yiyuan Kang Beining Du Yueming Li Baojie Wang Liyuan Sheng Longquan Shao Yufeng Zheng Tingfei Xi | 2019 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,1: | 8

Mechanical Behavior and Failure Mechanism of Recycled Semi-flexible Pavement Material显示文摘The mechanical behavior and failure mechanism of recycled semi-flexible pavement material were investigated by different scales method. The macroscopic mechanical behavior of samples was studied by static and dynamic splitting tensile tests on mechanics testing system(MTS). The mechanical analysis in micro scale was carried out by material image analysis method and finite element analysis system. The strains of recycled semi-flexible pavement material on samples surface and in each phase materials were obtained. The test results reveal that the performance of recovered asphalt binder was the major determinant on the structural stability of recycled semi-flexible pavement material. The asphalt binder with high viscoelasticity could delay the initial cracking time and reduce the residual strain under cyclic loading conditions. The failure possibility order of each phase in recycled semi-flexible pavement material was asphalt binder, reclaimed aggregate, cement paste and virgin aggregate. | 丁庆军 ZHAO Mingyu SHEN Fan ZHANG Xiaoqiang | 2015 | Journal of Wuhan University of Technology(Materials Science)2015,30,5: | 6
Mechanical properties and tribological behavior of a cast heat-resisting copper based alloy显示文摘Mechanical properties and tribological behavior of a novel cast heat resisting copper based alloy are investigated. The corresponding properties of a commercial aluminum bronze C95500 (ASTM B30) are compared with the alloy. The results show that the alloy possesses better mechanical properties and tribological behaviors than that of C95500 at elevated temperature. The tensile strength, elongation and hardness at 500℃ are 470MPa, 2.5% and HB220, respectively. The wear rate of the developed alloy at ambient and elevated temperature is about one sixth and one fortieth of that of C95500, respectively. The alloy is very suitable for ma nufacturing heat resisting and wear resisting parts. Major strengthening mechanisms for the alloy are solution strengthening and the second phase strengthening. | 张卫文 夏伟 温利平 吴苑标 潘国如 | 2002 | Journal of Central South University of Technology2002,9,4: | 5
Grain-scale deformation in a Mg-0.8wt% Y alloy using crystal plasticity finite element method显示文摘Magnesium(Mg) alloys with hexagonal close-packed(HCP) structure usually have a poor ductility at room temperature. The addition of yttrium(Y) can improve the ductility of Mg alloys. To understand the underlying mechanism, crystal plasticity finite element method(CPFEM) was employed to simulate the tensile deformation of a Mg-0.8 wt% Y alloy. The simulated stress–strain curve and the grain-scale slip activities were compared with an in-situ tensile test conducted in a scanning electron microscope.According to the CPFEM result, basal slip is the dominant deformation mode in the plastic deformation stage, accounting for about 50% of total strain. Prismatic slip and pyramidal a slip are responsible for about 25% and 20% of the total strain, respectively. Pyramidal c + a slip and twinning, on the other hand, accommodate much less strain. | Wenxue Li Leyun Wang Bijin Zhou Chuanlai Liu Xiaoqin Zeng | 2019 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,10: | 5
Sea Urchin Spines as a Model-System for Permeable,Light-Weight Ceramics with Graceful Failure Behavior. Part I. Mechanical Behavior of Sea Urchin Spines under Compression显示文摘The spines of pencil and lance urchins Heterocentrotus mammillatus and Phyllacanthus imperialis were studied as a modelof light-weight material with high impact resistance. The complex and variable skeleton construction ('stereom') of body andspines of sea urchins consists of highly porous Mg-bearing calcium carbonate. This basically brittle material with pronouncedsingle-crystal cleavage does not fracture by spontaneous catastrophic device failure but by graceful failure over the range of tensof millimeter of bulk compression instead. This was observed in bulk compression tests and blunt indentation experiments onregular, infiltrated and latex coated sea urchin spine segments.Microstructural characterization was carried out using X-raycomputer tomography, optical and scanning electron microscopy. The behavior is interpreted to result from the hierarchicstructure of sea urchin spines from the rnacroscale down to the nanoscale.Guidelines derived from this study see ceramics withlayered porosity as a possible biomimetic construction for appropriate applications. | V.Presser S.SchultheiB C.Berthold K.GNickel | 2009 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2009,6,3: | 5
Microstructural characteristics and mechanical behavior of B4Cp/6061Al composites synthesized at different hot-pressing temperatures显示文摘B4Cp/6061Al composites have become important structural and functional materials and can be fabricated by powder metallurgy and subsequent hot rolling. In this work, the effects of the hot-pressing temperature on microstructures and mechanical behaviors of the B4Cp/6061Al composites were investigated. The results showed that compared with the T4 heat treated B4Cp/6061Al composite hot pressed at 560℃, the yield strength and failure strain of the composites hot pressed at 580℃ were increased to 235 MPa and 18.4%, respectively. This was associated with the interface bonding strength between the B4C particles and the matrix. However, the reaction products, identified to be MgAl2O4 phases, were detected in the composites hot pressed at 600℃. The formation of the MgAl2O4 phases resulted in the Mg depletion, thus reducing the yield strength to 203.5 MPa after the T4 heat treatment due to the effect of the solid solution strengthening being weakened. In addition, the variation of hardness and electrical conductivity was mainly related to the Mg content in the matrix. Based on the as-rolled microstructures observed by SEM, SR-μCT and fracture surfaces, the deformation schematic diagram was depicted to reflect the tensile deformation process of the composites. | Minqiang Gao Zongning Chen Huijun Kang Enyu Guo Rengeng Li Ying Fu Honglan Xie Tongmin Wang | 2019 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,8: | 4
Optimization of gas tungsten arc welding parameters for the dissimilar welding between AISI 304 and AISI 201 stainless steels显示文摘This present study applied gas tungsten arc welding in order to join AISI 304 and AISI 201 stainless steels. The objective was to find the optimum welding condition that gave a weld bead in accordance with DIN EN ISO 25817 quality level B, pitting corrosion potential of the weld metal of not less than that of the AISI304 base metal and a ratio of delta-ferrite in austenite matrix of the weld metal of not lower than 3%.Such a ratio is a criterion widely accepted to protect the weld metal from solidification cracking. At the welding current of 75 A and by using pure argon as a shielding gas 0 to 8 vol.% and applying a welding speed in the range of 2-3.5 mm·s^(-1) was found to give a complete weld bead with an increased depthper-width ratio(promote weldability). For welding speed in the range of 3 and 3.5 mm·s^(-1)(promote corrosion resistance). Increasing the welding speed in such a range decreased the amount of delta-ferrite in the austenite matrix, and increased the pitting corrosion potential of the weld metal to be 302 mV_(SCE).This value was still lower than the pitting corrosion potential of the AISI 304 base metal. Mixing nitrogen in argon shielding gas increased the nitrogen content in the weld. The optimum condition was found when using a welding speed of 3 mm· s^(-1) and mixing 1 vol.% of nitrogen in the argon shielding gas(promote weldability and corrosion resistance). Pitted areas after potentiodynamic test were observed in the austenite in which its Cr content was relatively low. | Wichan Chuaiphan Loeshpahn Srijaroenpramong | 2019 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2019,15,2: | 4
Anisotropic plastic deformation behavior of as-extruded ZK60 magnesium alloy at room temperature显示文摘The anisotropic plastic deformation behavior of as-extruded ZK60 magnesium alloy at room tempera-ture (RT) was investigated by compressive and tensile testing in different directions, i.e. the loading axis oriented at 0°, 45° and 90° to the extrusion direction. The relationship between texture and plastic deformation behavior were examined. The results show that the extruded ZK60 alloy exhibits a strong ring fiber texture. The mechanical properties are strongly orientation dependent. In tension testing, the 0° specimen exhibited higher yield strength and lower elongation. In compression testing, however, ZK60 alloy exhibited almost the same yield strength in three directions. The anisotropic plastic defor-mation behavior is due to strong fiber texture and the lower symmetry of the hexagonal close packed (hcp) structure of ZK60 alloy. The correlation between texture and mechanical behaviour offers the possibility to improve the mechanical properties of magnesium alloy by optimization of the material production process. | HANS J R | 2009 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2009,52,1: | 4
Interface-dominated mechanical behavior in advanced metal matrix composites显示文摘Metal matrix composites(MMCs)incorporate a reinforcing or functional secondary phase into a metal matrix to achieve specific properties.Of the parameters which may affect the mechanical behavior of MMCs,the structure and properties of the reinforcement/matrix interface play a crucial role. This article reviews recent developments in measuring the interfacial properties in advanced MMCs,with an emphasis on the use of micro-/nano-mechanical testing approaches. It is shown that, with the novel in situ and ex situ experimental capability, researchers can now obtain some of the critical interfacial properties as well as the effects of reinforcement/matrix interfaces on the composites’deformation and failure mechanisms that were unattainable previously by conventional methodologies. Moreover, the micro-/nano-mechanical testing platform allows for both fundamental and applied research on the composites’mechanical performance under service conditions, which is considered a promising and emerging research direction. | Qiang Guo Yifan Han Di Zhang | 2020 | Nano Materials Science2020,2,1: | 3
Influence of layer orientation and interlayer bonding force on the mechanical behavior of shale under Brazilian test conditions显示文摘The mechanical behavior of inherently anisotropic shale rocks under Brazilian test conditions are investigated in this study based on experimental studies and numerical simulations. The effects of the weak lamination planes and interlayer bonding force of these layers on the failure strength and fracture patterns are studied systematically. Numerical simulations using particle flow code in two dimensions based on the discrete element method showed a good agreement with the experimental results in the failure strength and fracture patterns. The shale revealed strong anisotropic behavior with the failure strength perpendicular to the lamination plane greater than failure strength parallel to lamination plane. The failure strength of the different interlayer bonding force against the layer orientations changed significantly. Four types of fracture patterns were observed: curved fracture, broken-linear fracture, layeractivated fracture, and central-linear fracture. The observed fracture patterns are either or a combination of tensile and/or shear fractures. Increase in interlayer bonding strength decreased the quantity of micro cracks and this directly led to reduction in the anisotropic behavior. Overall the layer orientation and interlayer bonding force of the shale thus play a very important role in the anisotropic behavior of the shale. | Jianming He Lekan Olatayo Afolagboye | 2018 | Acta Mechanica Sinica2018,34,2: | 3
High temperature mechanical retention characteristics and oxidation behaviors of the MoSi2(Cr5Si3)–RSiC composites prepared via a PIP-AAMI combined process显示文摘In the present paper,MoSi2(Cr5Si3)–RSiC composites were prepared via a combination of precursor impregnation pyrolysis(PIP) and MoSi2-Si-Cr alloy active melt infiltration(AAMI) process. Composition, microstructure, mechanical retention characteristics, and oxidation behaviors of the composites at elevated temperature were studied. X-ray diffraction(XRD) pattern confirms that the composites mainly compose of 6 H–SiC, hexagonal MoSi2, and tetragonal Cr5Si3. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) image reveals that nearly denseMoSi2(Cr5Si3)–RSiC composites exhibiting three-dimensionally(3D) interpenetrated network structure are obtained when infiltrated at 2173 K, and the interface combination of the composites mainly depends on the composition ratio of infiltrated phases. Oxidation weight gain rate of the composites is much lower than that of RSiC matrix, where MoSiCr2 possesses the lowest value of 0.1630 mg×cm-2, about 78% lower than that of RSiC after oxidation at 1773 K for 100 h. Also, it possesses the highest mechanical values of 139.54 MPa(flexural strength σf and RT) and 276.77 GPa(elastic modulus Ef and RT), improvement of 73.73% and 29.77% as compared with that of RSiC, respectively. Mechanical properties of the composites increase first and then decrease with the extension of oxidation time at 1773 K, due to the cooperation effect of surface defect reduction via oxidation reaction and thermal stress relaxation in the composites, crystal growth, and thickness increase of the oxide film. Fracture toughness of MoSiCr2 reaches 2.24 MPa·m1/2(1673 K), showing the highest improvement of 31.70% as compared to the RT value. | Peng-zhao GAO Lei CHENG Zheng YUAN Xiao-pan LIU Han-ning XIAO | 2019 | Journal of Advanced Ceramics2019,8,2: | 2
Uniaxial tension and tensile creep behaviors of EPS显示文摘The mechanical behavior of EPS(Expanded polystyrene) with three densities at room temperature and under tension loading was studied. The results show that EPS material is characterized by brittle behavior in the tension tests, and tensile properties of EPS increase with the increase of density.Volume fraction has no a significant effect on the modulus of these foams. The tensile creep strain increases with stress for EPS with same density, indicating that the creep behavior is of the stress dependency. And the creep behavior of EPS exhibits density dependency, which the creep strain decreases with densities for a fixed stress value. Moreover the creep behavior under the constant tension load is well in coincidence with the three-parameter solid model. | 康颖安 李显方 谭加才 | 2008 | Journal of Central South University2008,15,S1: | 2
THE ANALYSIS OF THE STEADY FLOW IN THE FLOW CHAMBER显示文摘A flow chamber whose length and width are far larger than its own height was widely used to study cell’s mechanical behavior in vitro , especially the cell’s adhesion property. The paper analyzed the flow field of the flow chamber in detail, and gave the analytical expressions of the velocity, pressure and shear stress when the fluid flowed in and out the chamber through a small crevice. Then, full and clear discussion of flow field was made. Also the velocity field was measured by an Ultrasonic Doppler Velocity-metre. It was found that the experimental values coincided with the theoretical values. | 16 | Deformation and fracture of a Zr-Al-Cu metallic glass ribbon under tension near glass transition temperature显示文摘The high temperature tensile and fracture behavior of Zr_(50)Al_(40)Cu_(10) metallic glass at the temperature range in the vicinity of glass transition were investigated. Tensile tests were carried out at room temperature, 350-420 ℃, and in the supercooled liquid region temperature range, respectively. Obvious plastic deformation was initiated at temperature about 80 ℃ lower than the glass transition temperature. The ultimate tensile strength decreases with the increase of testing temperature and the ductility increases with temperature. At temperature higher than Tg, viscous fl ow of Non-Newtonian fl uid led to super plastic deformation behavior. The deformation process under tension was inhomogeneous, and remarkable serrations were observed on the stress-strain curve near glass transition temperature. | Xue-feng Gao Na Ge Fu-yu Dong Rui-chun Wang Hong-wang Yang | 2018 | China Foundry2018,15,3: | 2
Revisiting anisotropy in the tensile and fracture behavior of cold-rolled316L stainless steel with heterogeneous nano-lamellar structures显示文摘We produced a 316 L stainless steel with heterogeneous nanometer-thick lamellar structures by severe cold-rolling at room temperature, and conducted micro-scale tensile tests in different orientations to evaluate both the inplane(parallel to the nano-lamellae)and out-of-plane(normal and 45inclined to the nano-lamellae)mechanical anisotropy. The parallel orientation demonstrates the greatest tensile strength while the inclined orientation exhibits the least strength. The tensile tests in normal and inclined directions also indicate significant transient elastic-plastic response due to the strain path change.Fractographic examination demonstrates that the specimen fails in the normal direction by premature micro-void nucleation and growth, which restricts its tensile strength;however,we identified zig-zag cracking associated with lamellar shear cracking in the inclined direction. | Zesheng You Huangliu Fu Shoudao Qu Weikang Bao Lei Lu | 2020 | Nano Materials Science2020,2,1: | 2
Modeling of Mechanical Behavior of Fractal Rock Joint显示文摘The present study shows that naturally developed fracture surfaces in rocks display the properties of self-affine fractals. Surface roughness can be quantitatively characterized by fractal dimension D and the intercept A on the log-log plot of variance: the former describes the irregularity and the later is statistically analogues to the slopes of asperities. In order to confirm the effects of these fractalparameters on the properties and mechanical behavior of rock joints, which have been observed in experiments under both normal andshear loadings, a theoretic model of rock joint is proposed on the basis of contact mechanics. The shape of asperity at contact is assumed to have a sinusoidal form in its representative scale r, with fractal dimension D and the intercept A. The model considers different local contact mechanisms, such as elastic deformation, frictional sliding and tensile fracture of the asperity. The empirical evolution law of surface damage developed in experiment is implemented into the model to up-date geometry of asperity in loading history. The effects of surface roughness characterized by D, A and re on normal and shear deformation of rock joint have been elaborated. | Jinan bang Marek A. Kwasniewski( Resources Engineering School. | 19 | Microstructural evolution of a steam-turbine rotor subjected to a water-quenching process: numerical simulation and experimental verification显示文摘Cr-Ni-Mo-V steam-turbine rotors have been widely used as key components in power plants. In this study, a coupled thermomechano-metallurgical model was proposed to simulate the phase transformation and transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) of a 30Cr2Ni4MoV steam-turbine rotor during a water-quenching process, which was solved using a user defined material mechanical behavior (UMAT) subroutine in ABAQUS. The thermal dilation, heat generation from plastic work, transformation latent heat, phase transformation kinetics, and TRIP were considered in the model. The thermomechanical portion of the model was used to predict the evolution of temperature, strain, and residual stress in the rotor. The phase transformation that occurred during the quenching process was considered. Constitutive models of phase transformations (austenite to pearlite, austenite to bainite, and austenite to martensite) and TRIP were developed. Experimental data were adopted and compared with the predicted results to verify the accuracy of the model. This demonstrates that the model is reliable and accurate. Then, the model was utilized to predict the temperature variation, dimensional change, minimum austenitization time, residual stress, TRIP, and volume fractions of each phase. It is concluded that this model can be a useful computational tool in the design of heat-treatment routines of steam-turbine rotors. | Chuan Wu Qing-Ling Meng | 2019 | Advances in Manufacturing2019,7,1: | 2
Mechanical properties and microstructure of composites produced by recycling metal chips显示文摘In this study, the processing and mechanical properties of porous metal matrix composites(MMCs) composed of spheroidal cast iron chips(GGG40) and bronze chips(CuSn10) and formed by hot isostatic pressing were investigated. Bronze chips(CuSn10) were used as a matrix component, and spheroidal cast iron(GGG40) chips were used as a reinforcement component. The MMCs were produced with different CuSn10 contents(90 wt%, 80 wt%, 70 wt%, and 60 wt%). The hot isostatic pressing process was performed under three different pressures and temperatures. The produced MMCs were characterized using density tests, Brinell hardness tests, and compression tests. In addition, the consolidation mechanism was investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The test results were compared with those for bulk CuSn10 and bulk GGG40. Mechanical tests results revealed that the metallic chips can be recycled by using hot pressing and that the mechanical properties of the produced MMCs were similar to those of bulk CuSn10. XRD and microscopy studies showed that no intermetallic compounds formed between the metallic chips. The results showed that the CuSn10 and GGG40 chips were consolidated by mechanical interlocking. | Abdullah Aslan Aydin Günes Emin Salur Omer Sinan Shin Hakan Burak Karadag Ahmet Akdemir | 2018 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2018,25,9: | 1
