A review on machinability of carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP)and glass fiber reinforced polymer(GFRP)composite materials显示文摘Fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) composite materials are heterogeneous and anisotropic materials that do not exhibit plastic deformation. They have been used in a wide range of contemporary applications particularly in space and aviation, automotive, maritime and manufacturing of sports equipment. Carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) and glass fiber reinforced polymer(GFRP) composite materials, among other fiber reinforced materials, have been increasingly replacing conventional materials with their excellent strength and low specific weight properties. Their manufacturability in varying combinations with customized strength properties, also their high fatigue, toughness and high temperature wear and oxidation resistance capabilities render these materials an excellent choice in engineering applications. In the present review study,a literature survey was conducted on the machinability properties and related approaches for CFRP and GFRP composite materials. As in the machining of all anisotropic and heterogeneous materials, failure mechanisms were also reported in the machining of CFRP and GFRP materials with both conventional and modern manufacturing methods and the results of these studies were obtained by use of variance analysis(ANOVA),artificial neural networks(ANN) model, fuzzy inference system(FIS),harmony search(HS) algorithm, genetic algorithm(GA),Taguchi's optimization technique,multi-criteria optimization, analytical modeling, stress analysis, finite elements method(FEM),data analysis, and linear regression technique. Failure mechanisms and surface quality is discussed with the help of optical and scanning electron microscopy, and profilometry. ANOVA,GA,FEM,etc. are used to analyze and generate predictive models. | Meltem Altin Karatas Hasan Gokkaya | 2018 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2018,14,4: | 31
Effects of temperature on the tribological behavior of Al0.25CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy显示文摘The tribological behavior of Al0.25 CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy(HEA) sliding against Si3N4 ball was investigated from room temperature to 600°. The microstructure of the alloys was characterized by simple FCC phase with 260 HV. Below 300°, with increasing temperature, the wear rate increased due to high temperature softening. The wear rate remained stabilized above 300°due to the anti-wear effect of the oxidation film on the contact interface. The dominant wear mechanism of HEA changed from abrasive wear at room temperature to delamination wear at 200°, then delamination wear and oxidative wear at 300°and became oxidative above 300°. Moreover, the adhesive wear existed concomitantly below 300°. | L.M.Du L.W.Lan S.Zhu H.J.Yang X.H.Shi P.K.Liaw J.W.Qiao | 2019 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,5: | 17
CATHODIC PROCESS AND WEAR RESISTANCE OF ELECTRO-DEPOSITED RE-Ni-W-P-SiC COMPOSITE COATING显示文摘Cathodic deposition current density of the composite coatings increases when SiC par-ticles and rare earth (RE) were added in the bath, which is profitable for Ni- W-P alloyto deposit in the cathod, forming Ni-W-P-SiC and RE-Ni-W-P-SiC composite coat-ings. On the contrary, the addition of PTFE in the bath decreases cathodic depositioncurrent density of the coatings. The current density increases a little when the amountof RE is 7-9g/l; however, the current density increases greatly when the amount ofRE is increased to 11-13g/l. But if the amount of RE is raised further, the currentdensity decreases. Hardness and wear resistance of RE-Ni-W-P-SiC composite coat-ing have been studied, and the results show that the hardness and wear resistance ofRE-Ni-W-P-SiC composite coating increase with increasing heat treatment tempera-ture, which reach peak values at 400℃; while the hardness and wear resistance of thecoating decrease with the rise of heat treated temperature continuously. | Z.C.Guo,X.Y.Zhu,R.D.Xu and X.W.YangFaculty of Material and Metallurgy Engineering, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming650093, ChinaManuscript received 26 December 2001 in revised form 23 April 2002 | 2002 | Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2002,15,4: | 16

Friction and Wear Behavior of Resin/Graphite Composite under Dry Sliding显示文摘The friction and wear behavior of resin/graphite composite has been investigated using a pin-on-disc configuration under dry sliding condition. The results showed that the resin/graphite composite exhibited much better mechanical and tribological properties compared with the unimpregnated graphite. The friction coefficient was reduced by addition of furan resin, which could also prevent the'dusting' wear at loads more than 15 MPa. The steady and lubricated transfer film was easily formed on the counterpart surface due to the interaction of furan resin and wear debris of graphite, which was useful to reduce the wear rate of the resin/graphite composite. The composite is highly promising for mechanical sealing application and can be used at high load for long time sliding. | Zhenguo Zhu Shuo Bai Junfeng Wu Li Xu Ting Li Yong Ren Chang Liu | 2015 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2015,31,3: | 14

Effects of Plasma Nitriding on Microstructure and Tribological Properties of CoCrMo Alloy Implant Materials显示文摘Medical forged CoCrMo alloy was treated by plasma nitriding process. The microstructures were characterized by 3Dprofiler,SEM and XRD.The tribological properties were investigated under lubrication of 25% bovine serum solution.Resultsshow that plasma nitriding is a promising process to produce thick, hard, and more wear resistant layers on the surface of CoCrMoalloy. All nitrided samples showed an important increase in the surface hardness due to the formation of harder CrN andCr2N phases with compact nano-crystalline structures. The typical hardness values of HV0.05 increased almost two times thanuntreated one.Under bovine serum lubrication,at low nitriding temperature the Coefficient of Friction (COF) of nitrided samplewas lower than that of untreated sample, but at high nitriding temperature the COF was almost the same as the untreated one.Compared with the untreated sample, the nitrided samples showed lower wear rates and higher wear resistance under differentnitriding temperatures. The adhesive wear is the main mechanism for untreated CoCrMo alloy and the wear mechanisms ofnitrided ones are the fatigue wear and slight adhesive wear.It is concluded that the improvement of wear resistance is ascribed tothe hard nitride formation of CrN and Cr2N phases at the nitrided surfaces. | Qingliang Wang,Lei Zhang,Jiandong Dong School of Material Science and Engineering,China University of Mining & Technology,Xuzhou 221116,P.R.China | 2010 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2010,7,4: | 12

Role of polyethylene particles in peri-prosthetic osteolysis:A review显示文摘There is convincing evidence that particles produced by the wear of joint prostheses are causal in the periprosthetic loss of bone,or osteolysis, which,if it progresses, leads to the phenomenon of aseptic loosening. It is important to fully understand the biology of this bone loss because it threatens prosthesis survival, and loosened implants can result in peri-prosthetic fracture, which is disastrous for the patient and presents a difficult surgical scenario. The focus of this review is the bioactivity of polyethylene(PE)particles, since there is evidence that these are major players in the development and progression of osteolysis around prostheses which use PE as the bearing surface. The review describes the biological consequences of interaction of PE particles with macrophages, osteoclasts and cells of the osteoblast lineage, including osteocytes. It explores the possible cellular mechanisms of action of PE and seeks to use the findings to date to propose potential nonsurgical treatments for osteolysis. In particular,a nonsurgical approach is likely to be applicable to implants containing newer, highly cross-linked PEs(HXLPEs),for which osteolysis seems to occur with much reduced PE wear compared with conventional PEs.The caveat here is that we know little as yet about the bioactivity of HXLPE particles and addressing this constitutes our next challenge. | Gerald J Atkins David R Haynes Donald W Howie David M Findlay | 2011 | World Journal of Orthopedics2011,2,10: | 11
Combined effect of the use of carbon fiber and seawater and the molecular structure on the tribological behavior of polymer materials显示文摘The combined effect of the use of carbon fiber and seawater and the molecular structure on the tribological behavior of various polymer materials under natural seawater lubrication was investigated. After the investigation, the wear morphology of the contact surface was observed by a laser scanning confocal microscope, and the texture of the wear scars and tracks were presented in 3 D profiles. Moreover, the mechanism of mixed lubrication and wear resistance was analyzed. The results demonstrated that the friction coefficient of carbon fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone(CFRPEEK) is the lowest and fluctuates at approximately 0.11. Moreover, the seven polymer materials in ascending order of friction coefficients are CFRPEEK, carbon fiber-reinforced polyamide-imide, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyoxymethylene, polyetheretherketone(PEEK), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene resin, and glass fiber–epoxy resin. More critically, the simultaneous incorporation of deposition, polymeric scrap, hydrophilic groups, and seawater resulted in a decrease in the friction and wear of polymer materials under seawater lubrication. This observation implies that a synergistic friction-reducing and wear-resistant effect exists between carbon fiber, seawater, and the molecular structure of PEEK. As a result, a highly effective polymer material was discovered, CFRPEEK, which has the lowest friction coefficient of 0.11 and lowest wear rate of 2 × 10^(–5) mm^3?(N?m)^(-1) among the polymer materials; this validates the selection of dual friction pairs for seawater hydraulic components. | Zhiqiang WANG Jing NI Dianrong GAO | 2018 | Friction2018,6,2: | 11
Mechanical and wear behaviour of AZ91D magnesium matrix hybrid composite reinforced with boron carbide and graphite显示文摘In this experimental study,magnesium(AZ91D)based boron carbide(B4C)and graphite(Gr)particle reinforced hybrid composite materials were manufactured by stir casting. The tribological and mechanical properties of these composite materials were investigated. The results of the tests revealed that the graphite reinforced hybrid composites exhibited a lower wear loss compared to the unreinforced AZ91D alloy and AZ91D–B4C composites. It was found that with an increase in the B4C content, the wear resistance increased monotonically with hardness and ultimate tensile strength decreased. This study revealed that the addition of both a hard reinforcement(e.g.,B4C)and soft reinforcement(e.g.,graphite)significantly improves the wear resistance of magnesium composites. These entire results designate that the hybrid magnesium composites can be considered as an excellent material where high strength, ultimate tensile strength and wear-resistant components are of major importance, primarily in the aerospace and automotive engineering sectors. | I.Aatthisugan A.Razal Rose D.Selwyn Jebadurai | 2017 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2017,5,1: | 11
Tread Wear and Footprint Geometrical Characters of Truck Bus Radial Tires显示文摘Wear and mileage performance are the foremost performances for truck bus radial (TBR) tires. There are a lot of researches about the tire wear performance as well as the contact patch phenomenon by using finite element analysis (FEA) method or testing. But there is little published data on the correlations between the footprint geometry and the tread wear performance of tires. In this paper, an experiment on tire-ground performance of TBR tires is carried out by using Tekscan. The real-time changes of contact-area pressure distribution that occurred during the process of continuous load and unload are recorded. Three types of tires that act differently in behavior under normal usage are analyzed. A new method of researching in tire tread wear, which focuses on the geometrical characters of the footprint, is put forward. The experimental results of the three tires are described by using footprint geometrical characters. On the basis of studying the changing laws of footprint geometrical characters during the loading process and considering consumer survey and factory feedback information, the correlations between the geometrical character of footprints and tread destruction form are built. The analyzed results show that a greater contact area coefficient and a steady coefficient of contact result in a better wear performance for TBR tires. The footprint-shape coefficient changing laws in the process of loading are found to have a very good coincidence with the tread wear of the three types of tires. Tires with a smaller footprint-shape coefficient are likely to have an average tread wear while avoiding the shoulder wear first. The proposed research provides a new solution to predict tire-ground performance at the point of footprint and several useful references for improving tire design. | LIANG Chen WANG Guolin AN Dengfeng MA Yinwei | 2013 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2013,26,3: | 11
Biological coupling anti-wear properties of three typical molluscan shells—Scapharca subcrenata, Rapana venosa and Acanthochiton rubrolineatus显示文摘Molluscan shells are fascinating examples of highly ordered hierarchical structure and complex organic-inorganic biocomposite material. However, their anti-wear properties were rarely studied especially in the perspective of biological coupling. So in the current study three typical shells, Scapharca subcrenata, Rapana venosa and Acanthochiton rubrolineatus, were selected as coupling models to further study their anti-wear properties. Stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscopic observations showed that all these three shells had specific surface morphologies and complicated section microstructures. Importantly, a special structure, pore canal tubules, was discovered in the shells of Scapharca subcrenata and Acanthochiton rubrolineatus, which probably contributed most to their anti-wear properties. X-ray diffraction and micro-Vikers hardness tester were further adopted to analyze the phase compositions and micro-hardness of the shells. The measured results demonstrated that aragonite was the most extensive phase present in the shell, and possesed a relatively high micro-hardness. In this paper, the shells were described in details in morphology, structure and material with emphasis on the relationship with anti-wear property. The study revealed that the selected seashells possess distinct anti-wear properties by complicated mechanisms involving the integrated functions of multiple biological coupling elements, and this would provide inspiration to the design of new bionic wear resistance components. | XiMei Tian ZhiWu Han XiuJuan Li ZhaoGuo Pu LuQuan Ren | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,11: | 10
Effect of erbium on properties and microstructure of Al-Si eutectic alloy显示文摘Eutectic Al-12.6 wt.%Si alloys with various contents of the rare earth element Er were prepared by the conventional casting technique. The effect of Er on the microstructure and properties of the eutectic Al-Si alloys was investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy as well as the friction and wear tests. It was found that the addition of Er obviously improved the anti-wear properties, and reduced the friction coefficient of the alloys. The appropriate addition of Er would change the size and shape of the eutectic silicon, and thereby refine the microstructure of the Al-Si alloys. The refinement mechanism was also discussed. | 邢鹏飞 高波 庄艳歆 刘凯华 涂赣峰 | 2010 | Journal of Rare Earths2010,28,6: | 10
Coupling behavior between adhesive and abrasive wear mechanism of aero-hydraulic spool valves显示文摘Leakage due to wear is one of the main failure modes of aero-hydraulic spool valves. This paper established a practical coupling wear model for aero-hydraulic spool valves based on dynamic system modelling theory. Firstly, the experiment for wear mechanism verification proved that adhesive wear and abrasive wear did coexist during the working process of spool valves. Secondly coupling behavior of each wear mechanism was characterized by analyzing actual timevariation of model parameters during wear evolution process. Meanwhile, Archard model and three-body abrasive wear model were utilized for adhesive wear and abrasive wear, respectively.Furthermore, their coupling wear model was established by calculating the actual wear volume. Finally, from the result of formal test, all the required parameters for our model were obtained. The relative error between model prediction and data of pre-test was also presented to verify the accuracy of model, which demonstrated that our model was useful for providing accurate prediction of spool valve's wear life. | Chen Yunxia Gong Wenjun Kang Rui | 2016 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2016,29,4: | 10

Anti-wear properties evaluation of frictional sliding interfaces in automobile engines lubricated by copper/graphene nanolubricants显示文摘Owing to the significance of improving fuel economy, reducing emissions, and extending the durability of engine components, this study focused on the tribological performance of nano-additives. In this study, copper (Cu) and graphene (Gr) nanomaterials were dispersed in a fully formulated engine oil (5W-30) with different concentrations. The tribological trials were investigated under various speeds and loads, utilizing a reciprocating tribometer to mimic the ring/liner interfaces in the engine. The frictional surface morphologies were com-prehensively analyzed using electron probe X-ray microanalysis (EPMA), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and three dimensional (3D) surface profilometry to explore the mechanisms responsible for improving the tribological performance of the frictional sliding parts in the engine. The tribological test results illustrated that lubrication by nano-additives reduced the wear rate (WR) and friction coefficient (COF) by 25%–30% and 26.5%–32.6%, respectively, as compared with 5W-30. The results showed that this is a promising approach for increasing the durability and lifespan of frictional sliding components and fuel economy in automobile engines. | Mohamed Kamal Ahmed ALI Xianjun HOU Mohamed AAABDELKAREEM | 2020 | Friction2020,8,5: | 9
Microstructure and wear-resistant properties of NiCr–Cr_3C_2 coating with Ni45 transition layer produced by laser cladding显示文摘NiCr–Cr3C2 metal–ceramic composite coating is commonly produced on metal substrate by laser cladding to be used as wear-resistant coating under medium- or high-temperature working conditions. The coating has high hardness, generally over three times that of the substrate. In order to make the hardness increase gradually from substrate to coating surface, the nickel-based alloy Ni45 was chosen as the transition layer and Ni Cr–Cr3C2 coating was indirectly cladded on 20Cr2Ni4 A substrate.Microstructure and composition of the coating were characterized by scanning electron microscope(SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) and X-ray diffraction(XRD).Microhardness of the cross section of the coating was measured.Friction and wear behavior of Ni Cr–Cr3C2coating and substrate were investigated through sliding against the Si C ball at 20, 100 and 300 °C.The morphologies of worn surfaces were analyzed by SEM and EDS.The results show that the hardness of Ni45 transition layer is between that of the substrate and Ni Cr–Cr3C2coating, which avoids hardness jump and stress concentration of the coating.Ni Cr–Cr3C2coating contains hard phases of Cr3C2 and Cr7C3which enhance the wear resistance. With thetemperature increasing, friction coefficient and wear rate of the substrate increase significantly.Compared with the substrate, Ni Cr–Cr3C2coating has lower friction coefficient and wear rate at 100 and 300 °C, which verifies the good wear resistance of NiCr–Cr3C2 coating. | Chun-Cheng Zang Yan-Zhong Wang Yi-Du Zhang Jin-Hua Li Hong Zeng De-Qiang Zhang | 2015 | Rare Metals2015,34,7: | 9
Microstructure and properties of in-situ chromium carbide composite coating by laser cladding显示文摘Using Ni/Cr/graphite powder blends as raw powders,a Ni matrix composite coating reinforced by in-situ carbide, was fabricated on the surface of Q235 by means of laser cladding. These microstructure and properties were discussed. The result of phase analysis( XRD) and microstructure investigation( SEM) showed that the coatings consist mainly of Cr_3 C_2,Cr_7 C_3 and γ-( Ni,Cr),which are consistent with the thermodynamic calculations. The wear morphology of the coatings was also examined. The results of dry sliding wear tests of different Cr/C ratio show that the wear resistances of the Cr_3 C_2-reinforced coating, respectively, are 13. 4,9. 5,9. 1 and 6. 5 times higher than that of the substrate and the main wear mechanisms of the coatings are adhesion and abrasive wear with slight oxidation. | 何亚楠 宋强 孙康 赵玉桥 崔洪芝 | 2018 | China Welding2018,27,4: | 9
