| 3 | A Comparative Study on the Role of Cytokinins in Caryopsis Development in the Maize miniature1 Seed Mutant and Its Wild Type显示文摘We report here on a comparative developmental profile of plant hormone cytokinins in relation to cell size,cell number and endoreduplication in developing maize caryopsis of a cell wall invertase-deficient miniature1(mn1) seed mutant and its wild type,Mn1,genotype.Both genotypes showed extremely high levels of total cytokinins during the very early stages of development,followed by a marked and genotype specific reduction.While the decrease of cytokinins in Mn1 was associated with their deactivation by 9-glucosylation,the absolute and the relative part of active cytokinin forms was higher in the mutant.During the exponential growth phase of endosperm between 6 d after pollination and 9 d after pollination,the mean cell doubling time,the absolute growth rate and the level of endoreduplication were similar in the two genotypes.However,the entire duration of growth was longer in Mn1 compared with mn1,resulting in a significantly higher cell number in the Mn1 endosperm.These data correlate with the previously reported peak levels of the Mn1-encoded cell wall invertase-2(INCW2) at 12 d after pollination in the Mn1 endosperm.A model showing possible crosstalk among cytokinins,cell cycle and cell wall invertase as causal to increased cell number and sink strength of the Mn1 developing endosperm is discussed. | Tomaz Rijavec Maja Kova Ale Kladnik Prem S.Chourey Marina Dermastia | 2009 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2009，51，9： | 7 |

| 6 | Effects of Organic Matter-Rich Amendments on Selenium Mobility in Soils显示文摘Soil organic matter (SOM) plays an important role in the Se dynamics in soil. The potential effects of vermicompost and digestate as important sources of SOM on selenium (Se) mobility were assessed in this study. Three soils differing in their physicochemical parameters, fluvisol, chernozem, and luvisol, were chosen, and three types of vermicomposts based on various bio-waste materials as digestate (vermicompost 1), kitchen waste with woodchips (vermicompost 2), and garden bio-waste (vermicompost 3) were used due to their high organic matter content. Additionally, digestate samples alone were applied. To evaluate the potential effect of vermicompost application on sorption characteristics of soils, batch sorption experiments were performed. The results showed a predominant effect on Se species in the soils, where selenite sorbed more intensively compared to selenate, regardless of the soil and ameliorative material applied. In the control, the soil sorption ability of selenite tended to decrease in the order: fluvisol > luvisol > chernozem. However, these differences were not significant. Moreover, the effects of the ameliorative materials depended on both soil and amendment used. In fluvisol, all the amendment applications resulted in a decrease in distribution coefficient ( K d values) of Se, whereas in chernozem, this effect was observed only for the digestate-based vermicompost 1. Increasing K d levels were reported in luvisol treated with digestate;the application of garden bio-waste-based vermicompost 3 tended to decrease the K d values. Further studies are required on long-term effects of these amendments on Se mobility in soils and the role of individual organic matter fractions in this context. | Petra SMAZíKOVá Luká? | 9 | Can infrared thermography be used to monitor fatigue during exercise? A case study显示文摘Background: Infrared thermographic imaging(IRTG) is a safe and reliable technology used to monitor skin temperature. The main aim of our study was to evaluate the relationship between skin temperature changes and muscle fatigue in order to answer the main research question if IRTG can be used to monitor muscle fatigue.Methods: This was a case study performed on a 23-year-old trained middle distance runner. After warm-up the subject was exercising on the dynamometer for 7.5 min at 120?/s performing only concentric contractions of quadriceps. At the same time IRTG recording of both(exercising and non-exercising) quadriceps was performed.Results: A correlational analysis that was performed in order to quantify the relationship between power and temperature change over time has shown that there is a significant negative correlation between skin temperature increase and power decrease(r = -0.543, p = 0.036) of exercising quadriceps. In linear regression model the exercising quadriceps power could be predicted from skin temperature. No such relationships were noted for the non-exercising limb that served as a control.Conclusion: We believe that correlation between skin temperature change and muscle power output as described in this case study deserves further analysis on the larger sample including subjects of the different ages, health status, and physical abilities in order to create a new tool for monitoring the muscle fatigue. | Vedran Had?i Brane irok Ale?
