1Numerical and experimental direct shear tests for coarse-grained soils显示文摘The presence of particles larger than the permissible dimensions of conventional laboratory specimens causes difficulty in the determination of shear strength of coarse-grained soils. In this research, the influence of particle size on shear strength of coarse-grained soils was investigated by resorting to experimental tests in different scale and numerical simulations based on discrete element method (DEM). Experimental tests on such soil specimens were based on using the techniques designated as 'parallel' and 'scalping' to prepare gradation of samples in view of the limitation of laboratory specimen size. As a second approach, the direct shear test was numerically simulated on assemblies of elliptical particles. The behaviors of samples under experimental and numerical tests are presented and compared, indicating that the modification of sample gradation has a significant influence on the mechanical properties of coarse-grained soils. It is noted that the shear strengths of samples produced by the scalping method are higher than samples by the parallel method. The scalping method for preparing specimens for direct shear test is therefore recommended. 2Micromechanics of breakage in sharp-edge particles using combined DEM and FEM显示文摘By combining DEM(Discrete Element Method)and FEM(Finite Element Method),a model is established to simulate the breakage of two-dimensional sharp-edge particles,in which the simulated particles are assumed to have no cracks.Particles can,however,crush during different stages of the numerical analysis,if stress-based breakage criteria are fulfilled inside the particles.With this model,it is possible to study the influence of particle breakage on macro-and micro-mechanical behavior of simulated angular materials.Two series of tests,with and without breakable particles,are simulated under different confining pressures based on conditions of biaxial tests.The results,presented in terms of micromechanical behavior for different confining pressures,are compared with macroparameters.The influence of particle breakage on microstructure of sharp-edge materials is discussed and the related confining pressure effects are investigated.Breakage of particles in rockfill materials are shown to reduce the anisotropy coefficients of the samples and therefore their strength and dilation behaviors.Ahad Bagherzadeh-Khalkhali Ali Asghar Mirghasemi Soheil Mohammadi 2008Particuology2008,6,5:8
3Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder after liver transplantation: Incidence, long-term survival and impact of serum tacrolimus level显示文摘AIM To investigate incidence and survival of post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder(PTLD) patients after liver transplantation. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted among patients who underwent liver transplantation at Shiraz Transplant Center(Shiraz, Iran) between August 2004 and March 2015. Clinical and laboratory data of patients were collected using a data gathering form. RESULTS There were 40 cases of PTLD in the pediatric age group and 13 cases in the adult group. The incidence of PTLD was 6.25% in pediatric patients and 1.18% in adult liver transplant recipients. The post-PTLD survival of patients at 6 mo was 75.1% ± 6%, at 1 year was 68.9% ± 6.5% and at 5 years was 39.2% ± 14.2%. Higher serum tacrolimus level was associated with lower post-PTLD survival in pediatric patients(OR = 1.07, 95%CI: 1.006-1.15, P = 0.032). A serum tacrolimus level over 11.1 ng/mL was predictive of post PTLD survival(sensitivity = 90%, specificity = 52%, area under the curve = 0.738, P = 0.035). CONCLUSION Incidence of PTLD in our liver transplant patients is comparable to other centers. 12Hemangioma in the lower labial vestibule of an eleven-year-old girl:A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Hemangioma is a vascular benign tumour of endothelial origin.It appears commonly in the first decade of life with increases incidence in females.Hemangioma is not common to happen in the oral cavity and it is extremely rare to appear in the labial vestibule.CASE SUMMARY We present a case of an 11-year-old girl who complained of a painful,slowly growing mass which was consistent with the capillary hemangioma in the left mandibular vestibule.Vascular tumor such as hemangioma in the mandibular vestibule is extremely rare;hence,the clinical definitive diagnosis is very challenging.Therefore,radiographic imaging and histopathologic analysis are crucial to reach to the final diagnosis for proper management.CONCLUSION Comprehensive clinical evaluation,proper diagnostic imaging and microscopic analysis of the mass establish a precise diagnosis of the hemangioma for better management.Ashwag Yagoub Aloyouny Afrah Jaber Alfaifi Shahad Mohammed Aladhyani Ahad Ali Alshalan Hadeel Mohammed Alfayadh Hend Mahmoud Salem 2022World Journal of Clinical Cases2022,10,5:0
13Exploring the criteria and factors affecting firefighters’resilience:A qualitative study显示文摘Purpose:Firefighters are exposed to high levels of occupational risk factors,such as safety risks,chemical,ergonomic,and physical hazards that may jeopardize their lives.To overcome these hazards,firefighters must be physically,mentally,and personally fit to work.This study aimed to explore the criteria and factors affecting firefighters'resilience based on stakeholders’experiences.Methods:This qualitative study was carried out using conventional content analysis.In total,21 face-to-face interviews were conducted by firefighters who were experienced in the field.The interviews were carried out from July 2019 to January 2020.The data were collected using 3 unstructured interviews and then resumed by 18 semi-structured interviews.Data analysis was done using Graneheim method.Results:The participants had more than 5 years of experience in the field of search and rescue.The extracted codes through data analysis were classified into 3 main categories(individual,organizational,and social factors),9 sub-categories(mental,physical,occupational,managerial,colleagues-related,equipment-related,environmental,community-related,and family-related factors),as well as 19 sub-sub-categories and 570 codes.Conclusion:Firefighters'personality,physical condition,behavior and psychological characteristics can affect their resilience along with organizational and management factors that play significant role in people's safety.Developing a tool for assessing resilience can help decision makers to have a real depict of firefighters'job qualifications.Ahad Heydari Abbas Ostadtaghizadeh Ali Ardalan Abbas Ebadi Iraj Mohammadfam Davoud Khorasani-Zavareh 2022Chinese Journal of Traumatology2022,25,2:0

15Standardization of proton-induced x-ray emission technique for analysis of thick samples显示文摘This paper describes the standardization of the proton-induced x-ray emission(PIXE) technique for finding the elemental composition of thick samples. For the standardization, three different samples of standard reference materials(SRMs) were analyzed using this technique and the data were compared with the already known data of these certified SRMs. These samples were selected in order to cover the maximum range of elements in the periodic table. Each sample was irradiated for three different values of collected beam charges at three different times. A proton beam of 2.57 Me V obtained using 5UDH-II Pelletron accelerator was used for excitation of x-rays from the sample. The acquired experimental data were analyzed using the GUPIXWIN software.
