| 1 | Development of a script of phonemically balanced monosyllable lists of Mandarin-Chinese显示文摘Objectives To develop a set of monosyllable audiometry test material that can be used in speech recognition testing in Mandarin Chinese. Materials and Methods In an effort to improve reliability and efficiency in clinical practice, a set of 30 test lists of 25 monosyllable test items each was designed with consideration of the following: length of the list, phonemical balance (PB), word utility frequency, coverage of common words, and equivalency among lists. The 30 lists contained 750 monosyllabic words and were constructed on the basis of Chinese phoneme distribution probability summarized in the Manual of Acoustic. The occurrence incidence of the 22 consonants, 36 vowels, and 4 tones of the Chinese Mandarin characters in the 30 test lists were calculated. To achieve PB, 489 monosyllables were selected from the 2500 most commonly used Chinese characters and the 4000 most commonly used Chinese phrases to compile the 30 monosyllable test lists using a computer algorithm with manual adjustment. Results Thirty phonemical balanced word lists of common Mandarin Chinese monosyllabic words were compiled. Each list consisted of 25 monosyllables. A total of 489 phonemes (consonants, vowels and tones) were included in the set. | 2 | Overexpression of Hepcidin Alleviates Steatohepatitis and Fibrosis in a Diet-induced Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis显示文摘Background and Aims:Iron overload can contribute to the progression of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH).Hepcidin(Hamp),which is primarily synthesized in hepatocytes,is a key reg-ulator of iron metabolism.However,the role of Hamp in NASH remains unclear.Therefore,we aimed to elucidate the role of Hamp in the pathophysiology of NASH.Methods:Male mice were fed a choline-deficient L-amino acid-defined(CDAA)diet for 16 weeks to establish the mouse NASH model.A choline-supplemented amino acid-defined(CSAA)diet was used as the control diet.Recombinant adeno-asso-ciated virus genome 2 serotype 8 vector expressing Hamp(rAAV2/8-Hamp)or its negative control(rAAV2/8-NC)was administered intravenously at week 8 of either the CDAA or CSAA diet.Results:rAAV2/8-Hamp treatment markedly decreased liver weight and improved hepatic steatosis in the CDAA-fed mice,accompanied by changes in lipogenesis-related genes and adiponectin expression.Compared with the control group,rAAV2/8-Hamp therapy attenuated liver damage,with mice exhibiting reduced histological NAFLD inflammation and fibrosis,as well as lower levels of liver enzymes.Moreover,α-smooth muscle actin-positive acti-vated hepatic stellate cells(HSCs)and CD68-postive mac-rophages increased in number in the CDAA-fed mice,which was reversed by rAAV2/8-Hamp treatment.Consistent with the in vivo findings,overexpression of Hamp increased adi-ponectin expression in hepatocytes and Hamp treatment inhibited HSC activation.Conclusions:Overexpression of Hamp using rAAV2/8-Hamp robustly attenuated liver stea-tohepatitis,inflammation,and fibrosis in an animal model of NASH,suggesting a potential therapeutic role for Hamp. | Hui Chen Wenshan Zhao Xuzhen Yan Tao Huang Aiting Yang | 2022 | Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022，10，4： | 0 |

| 4 | Thoracotomy of an asymptomatic, functional, posterior mediastinal paraganglioma: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Paragangliomas in the mediastinum are rare, accounting for only 1%-2% of all paragangliomas and < 0.3% of all mediastinal tumors. Most paragangliomas are nonfunctional, therefore, asymptomatic functional paragangliomas in the left posterior mediastinum are extremely rare. Perioperative management including preoperative preparation, careful intraoperative procedures, and strict postoperative care is important, and one-stage surgical resection should be performed only after appropriate perioperative measures are undertaken. Because those tumors are rare, it is necessary to report known cases to raise awareness regarding them. CASE SUMMARY We report the case of a 47-year-old male who was admitted to our hospital with the chief complaints of intermittent tearing pain on the left side of the chest and back for more than 10 mo. A chest contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan revealed a round, solid mass in the left posterior mediastinum, with low-density cystic lesions in the middle, and no enlarged lymph nodes in the hilum or mediastinum (Figure 1). After the diagnosis of paraganglioma, the patient was preoperatively given an oral adrenoceptor blocking drug (phenoxybenzamine), and intravenous fluid resuscitation for two weeks, subsequently the patient underwent a one-stage resection of lesions via left thoracotomy. The patient’s blood pressure increased to 220/120 mmHg when the tumor was touched, which could be relieved by symptomatic treatment such as accelerating liquid transfusion or other intervention to lower blood pressure.
