1Real-time high-resolution mid-infrared optical coherence tomography显示文摘The potential for improving the penetration depth of optical coherence tomography systems by using light sources with longer wavelengths has been known since the inception of the technique in the early 1990s.Nevertheless,the development of mid-infrared optical coherence tomography has long been challenged by the maturity and fidelity of optical components in this spectral region,resulting in slow acquisition,low sensitivity,and poor axial resolution.In this work,a mid-infrared spectral-domain optical coherence tomography system operating at a central wavelength of 4μm and an axial resolution of 8.6μm is demonstrated.The system produces two-dimensional cross-sectional images in real time enabled by a high-brightness 0.9-to 4.7-μm mid-infrared supercontinuum source with a pulse repetition rate of 1 MHz for illumination and broadband upconversion of more than 1-μm bandwidth from 3.58–4.63μm to 820–865 nm,where a standard 800-nm spectrometer can be used for fast detection.The images produced by the mid-infrared system are compared with those delivered by a state-of-the-art ultra-high-resolution near-infrared optical coherence tomography system operating at 1.3μm,and the potential applications and samples suited for this technology are discussed.In doing so,the first practical mid-infrared optical coherence tomography system is demonstrated,with immediate applications in real-time non-destructive testing for the inspection of defects and thickness measurements in samples that exhibit strong scattering at shorter wavelengths.Niels M.Israelsen Christian R.Petersen Ajanta Barh Deepak Jain Mikkel Jensen Gunther Hannesschlager Peter Tidemand-Lichtenberg Christian Pedersen Adrian Podoleanu Ole Bang 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:7

12SAIL—striding towards the future with the touch of green显示文摘Steel plays a vital role in every facet of our life.Like DNA in our body,steel plays a crucial role in the development of any society.From infrastructure,defence,transportation,research & development and even in day to day life,everywhere steel is used.Per capita consumption of steel is treated as an important index for the socioeconomic development of any country.The rapid and continuing growth of steel industry during last few decades bears testimony to the indispensability of steel as a vital resource for economic development.Though steel as a product is eco friendly,the process of making steel is associated with lot of energy and environmental ramifications.According to International Energy Outlook 2009,iron and steel industry account for about 20%of the total industrial energy consumption.Hence this industrial sector can play a pivotal role to influence the energy and environmental scenario of any country. As a responsible corporate citizen,Steel Authority of India Limited,the largest steel producer in India,has taken various initiatives over the years towards the protection of environment and reduction in energy consumption.This has resulted in the reduction of energy consumption by almost 15.45%over a period of last 10 years.The initiative is also evident in the company’s growth plan which aims at almost doubling the production capacity in the near future from the existing level of 13.5 Mt/a.Implementation of tate of it lean echnologies like CDQ,TRT,and waste heat recovery from sinter plants,maximizing CDI & CTI in blast furnaces,augmentation of pollution control devices with more efficient equipment are on the anvil.These reaffirm our commitments for clean and sustainable environment. 14Propagating disturbances along a coronal loop from simultaneous EUV imaging and spectroscopic observations显示文摘Propagating disturbances(PDs) were studied along an active region loop using simultaneous imaging and spectroscopy. An image sequence recorded in the Fe Ⅸ/Fe X 171  channel, from TRACE and spectral data in the Si Ⅻ 520.6  line obtained from CDS/SOHO, are analyzed. A space-time map constructed from the TRACE image sequence shows the presence of PDs close to the loop foot point propagating with an apparent speed of 39 km s-1. The periodicity was found to be 5.4 min.The corresponding spectroscopic data from CDS, at a location away from the foot point, show oscillations in all three line parameters roughly at the same period. At locations farther from the foot point, the line width oscillation seems to disappear while the Doppler velocity oscillation becomes prominent. We attribute this to the signature of propagating slow waves that get affected by flows/other events close to the foot point. 15Diversity of Middle Eocene Coralline Red Algae from the Prang Limestone(Shella Formation) of Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, NE Himalaya, India with special emphasis on palaeoenvironment显示文摘Palaeocene-Eocene carbonates of shallow marine sequence belonging to Shella Formation of Jaintia Group are well developed in the south of the Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya and represent an excellent outcrop of shelf sediments in North Eastern Himalaya, India. These outcrops are exposed along the southern fringe of Shillong Plateau. The Prang Limestone is the uppermost lithostratigraphic unit of the Shella Formation within the Jaintia Group. It is overlain by sand-shale alternation of the Kopili Formation and underlain by the Narpuh Sandstone. A rich assemblage of larger foraminifera including Nummulites, Discocyclina etc. has been recorded earlier from the Prang Limestone and based on the foraminiferal assemblage, a Middle Eocene to Early Late Eocene age has been assigned to the Prang Limestone. Thin section analysis of the Prang Limestone revealed the abundance of well preserved coralline red algae along with other well preserved and significant biogenic elements. Morpho-taxonomical study reveals that the algal flora is represented by seven species belonging to the families Hapalidiaceae(Subfamily: Melobesioideae), Corallinaceae(Subfamily: Mastophoroideae) and Sporolithaceae. The dominance of melobesioid and mastophoroid forms is the characteristic feature of this algal assemblage. Coralline algae occur mostly in encrusting growth form with orbitoid foraminifera and occasionally the coralline algae form rhodoliths. 17Inflection Point as a Manifestation of Tricritical Point on the Dynamic Phase Boundary in Ising Meanfield Dynamics显示文摘We studied the dynamical phase transition in kinetic Ising ferromagnetsdriven by oscillating magnetic field in meanfield approximation. The meanfield differentialequation was solved by sixth order Runge-Kutta-Felberg method. We calculatedthe transition temperature as a function of amplitude and frequency of oscillatingfield. This was plotted against field amplitude taking frequency as a parameter.As frequency increases the phase boundary is observed to become inflated. The phaseboundary shows an inflection point which separates the nature of the transition. Onthe dynamic phase boundary a tricritical point (TCP) was found, which separates thenature (continuous/discontinuous) of the dynamic transition across the phase boundary.The inflection point is identified as the TCP and hence a simpler method of determiningthe position of TCP was found. TCP was observed to shift towards high fieldfor higher frequency. As frequency decreases the dynamic phase boundary is observeto shrink.
