| 1 | Effects of Gibberellic Acid on Primary Terpenoids and △^9 -Tetrahydrocannabinol in Cannabis sativa at Flowering Stage显示文摘Plants synthesize an astonishing diversity of isoprenoids,some of which play essential roles in photosynthesis,respiration,and the regulation of growth and development.Two independent pathways for the biosynthesis of isoprenoid precursors coexist within the plant cell: the cytosolic mevalonic acid (MVA) pathway and the plastidial methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathway.However,little is known about the effects of plant hormones on the regulation of these pathways.In the present study we investigated the effect of gibberellic acid (GA3) on changes in the amounts of many produced terpenoids and the activity of the key enzymes,1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate synthase (DXS) and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMGR),in these pathways.Our results showed GA3 caused a decrease in DXS activity in both sexes that it was accompanied by a decrease in chlorophylls,carotenoids and 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) contents and an increase in α-tocopherol content.The treated plants with GA3 showed an increase in HMGR activity.This increase in HMGR activity was followed by accumulation of stigmasterol and β-sitosterol in male and female plants and campestrol in male plants.The pattern of the changes in the amounts of sterols was exactly similar to the changes in the HMGR activity.These data suggest that GA3 can probably influence the MEP and MVA pathways oppositely,with stimulatory and inhibitory effects on the produced primary terpenoids in MVA and DXS pathways,respectively. | Hakimeh Mansouri Zahra Asrar Mitra Mehrabani | 2009 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2009,51,6: | 8 |

We present the case of an elderly woman who was referred to cardiology for investigation of possible ischaemic heart disease prior to orthopaedic surgery. The patient had developed chest pain in the setting of a septic total knee replacement associated with changes on electrocardiography. | 4 | Variational Mode Decomposition for Rotating Machinery Condition Monitoring Using Vibration Signals显示文摘The failure of rotating machinery applications has major time and cost effects on the industry.Condition monitoring helps to ensure safe operation and also avoids losses.The signal processing method is essential for ensuring both the efficiency and accuracy of the monitoring process.Variational mode decomposition(VMD)is a signal processing method which decomposes a non-stationary signal into sets of variational mode functions(VMFs)adaptively and non-recursively.The VMD method offers improved performance for the condition monitoring of rotating machinery applications.However,determining an accurate number of modes for the VMD method is still considered an open research problem.Therefore,a selection method for determining the number of modes for VMD is proposed by taking advantage of the similarities in concept between the original signal and VMF.Simulated signal and online gearbox vibration signals have been used to validate the performance of the proposed method.The statistical parameters of the signals are extracted from the original signals,VMFs and intrinsic mode functions(IMFs)and have been fed into machine learning algorithms to validate the performance of the VMD method.The results show that the features extracted from VMD are both superior and accurate for the monitoring of rotating machinery.Hence the proposed method offers a new approach for the condition monitoring of rotating machinery applications. | Muhd Firdaus Isham Muhd Salman Leong Meng Hee Lim Zair Asrar Ahmad | 2018 | Transactions of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics2018,35,1: | 3 |
| 5 | Bed planting of wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)improves nitrogen use efficiency and grain yield compared to flat planting显示文摘Conventional flat planting is commonly used for growing wheat in Pakistan and the crop is irrigated by flood irrigation, but it leads to ineffective use of applied nitrogen owing to poor aeration and leaching and volatilization losses. The practice also results in greater crop lodging, lower water use efficiency, and crusting of the soil surface. In contrast, bed planting of wheat not only saves water but improves fertilizer use efficiency and grain yield. Three years of pooled data from the present study showed that wheat planting on beds and nitrogen application at 120 kg ha-1produced 15.06% higher grain yield than flat planting at the same nitrogen rate. Similarly, 25.04%, 15.02%, 14.59%, and 29.83% higher nitrogen uptake, nitrogen use, and agronomic and recovery efficiencies, respectively, were recorded for bed compared to flat planting. Wheat planting on beds with a nitrogen application of80 kg ha-1gave a yield similar to that of flat planting with 120 kg ha-1nitrogen. | 6 | Clinical characteristics and outcomes of octogenarians presenting with ST elevation myocardial infarction in the Australian population显示文摘AIM To investigate the characteristics and outcomes of octogenarians who presented with ST-elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI) compared to non-octogenarians and to investigate the outcomes of octogenarians that received primary percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) compared to those managed conservatively.METHODS We performed a single center retrospective case controlled study. All octogenarians who presented with STEMI to a tertiary referring hospital between 2007 and 2012 were included. The subsequent non-octogenarian patient who presented with a STEMI following the octogenarian patient was assigned to the control group in a 1:1 manner. The outcomes measured were peri-procedural cardiac arrest, death on table, cerebrovascular accidents(CVA), in-hospital and 30-d mortality. RESULTS A total of 146 patients were analyzed. The octogenarian group had a higher percentage of females, higher overall comorbidities, higher Charlson Comorbidity Index score, worse renal function and were more likely to require residential care and home help. The octogenarian group were also less likely to have PCI attempted and had a longer symptom onset to PCItime. Mortality rate was high amongst octogenarians who presented with STEMI. However, those managed conservatively had a higher in-hospital and 30-d mortality rate CONCLUSION Octogenarians who presented with STEMI that were managed conservatively had a higher mortality rate compared to those who had primary PCI.
