| 1 | Response of community composition and biomass of submerged macrophytes to variation in underwater light, wind and trophic status in a large eutrophic shallow lake显示文摘Light climate is of key importance for the growth, community composition of submerged macrophytes in lakes and, they, in turn, are affected by lake depth and the degree of eutrophication. To test the relationships between submerged macrophyte presence and the ratio of Secchi disk depth(SDD) to water depth, i.e. SDD/depth, nutrients and wind, we conducted an extensive sampling campaign in a macrophyte-dominated area of the eastern region( n = 36) in 2016 in Lake Taihu, China, and combined the data gathered with results from extensive physico-chemical monitoring data from the entire lake. We confirmed that SDD/Depth is the primary factor controlling the community composition of macrophytes and showed that plant abundance increased with increasing SDD/Depth ratio( p < 0.01), but that only SDD/Depth > 0.4 ensured growth of submerged macrophytes. Total phosphorus and total nitrogen also influenced the growth and community composition of macrophytes( p < 0.01), while Chl a was an indirectly affecting factor by reducing underwater light penetration. Wave height significantly influenced plant abundance( p < 0.01), whereas it had little effect on the biomass( p > 0.05). The key to restore the macrophyte beds in the lake is to reduce the nutrient loading. A decrease of the water level may contribute as well in the shallow bays but will not bring plants back in the main part of the lake. | 4 | Boosting proso millet yield by altering canopy light distribution in proso millet/mung bean intercropping systems显示文摘To elucidate the mechanism by which intercropping proso millet(Panicum miliaceum L.)with mung bean(Vigna radiata L.)increases proso millet yield and to determine how this higher yield results from maximization of resources use efficiency,we designed and conducted four strip intercropping row arrangements,including two rows of proso millet alternating with two rows of mung bean(2P2M),four rows of proso millet alternating with two rows of mung bean(4P2M),four rows of proso millet alternating with four rows of mung bean(4P4M),two rows of proso millet alternating with four rows of mung bean(2P4M),sole proso millet(SP,control)and sole mung bean(SM,control)in Yulin,Shaanxi,China.Photosynthetically active radiation(PAR)in the canopy,radiation use efficiency(RUE),leaf photosynthetic characteristics,dry matter accumulation and allocation,and yield of proso millet were investigated.The results showed that the intercropping systems had higher PAR than the monoculture.Mean PAR intensities were increased by respectively 2.2%–23.4%,19.8%–59.7%,and 61.2%–133.3%in the proso millet upper,middle and lower canopies compared with SP.The increase in PAR directly increased RUE,a result attributed mainly to the increase in photosynthetic capacity,including net photosynthetic rate and chlorophyll content.These responses resulted in increased dry matter allocation to plant organs.Yield of intercropped proso millet was 6.8%–37.3%higher than that under monoculture and the land equivalent ratios for the different intercropping patterns were all greater than unity(>1).In general,yield followed a positive linear function of PAR in the intercropping system.The results indicated that intercropping can boost proso millet yield,evidently by altering light distribution within its canopy and consequently increasing RUE,thereby increasing leaf photosynthetic capacity,dry matter accumulation,and allocation to the grain.The optimum combination for improving the growth and yield of proso millet on the Loess Plateau of China was 2P4M. | Xiangwei Gong Uzizerimana Ferdinand Ke Dang Jing Li Guanghua Chen Yan Luo Pu Yang Baili Feng | 2020 | The Crop Journal2020,8,2: | 6 |
| 5 | Constrained predictive control based on T-S fuzzy model for nonlinear systems显示文摘A constrained generalized predictive control (GPC) algorithm based on the T-S fuzzy model is presented for the nonlinear system. First, a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model based on the fuzzy cluster algorithm and the orthogonal least square method is constructed to approach the nonlinear system. Since its consequence is linear, it can divide the nonlinear system into a number of linear or nearly linear subsystems. For this T-S fuzzy model, a GPC algorithm with input constraints is presented. This strategy takes into account all the constraints of the control signal and its increment, and does not require the calculation of the Diophantine equations. So it needs only a small computer memory and the computational speed is high. | 6 | Differentiation of embryonic versus adult rat neural stem cells into dopaminergic neurons in vitro显示文摘BACKGROUND:It has been reported that the conversion of neural stem cells into dopaminergic neurons in vitro can be increased through specific cytokine combinations. Such neural stem cell-derived dopaminergic neurons could be used for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. However, little is known about the differences in dopaminergic differentiation between neural stem cells derived from adult and embryonic rats. OBJECTIVE: To study the ability of rat adult and embryonic-derived neural stem cells to differentiate into dopaminergic neurons in vitro. DESIGN: Randomized grouping design. SETTING: Department of Neurosurgery in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. MATERIALS: This experiment was performed at the Surgical Laboratory in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou, Guangdong, China) from June to December 2007. Eight, adult, male, Sprague Dawley rats and eight, pregnant, Sprague Dawley rats (embryonic day 14 or 15) were provided by the Experimental Animal Center of Sun Yat-sen University. METHODS: Neural stem cells derived from adult and embryonic rats were respectively cultivated in serum-free culture medium containing epidermal growth factor and basic fibroblast growth factor. After passaging, neural stem cells were differentiated in medium containing interleukin-1α, interleukin-11, human leukemia inhibition factor, and glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor. Six days later, cells were analyzed by immunocytochemistry and flow cytometry. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Alterations in cellular morphology after differentiation of neural stem cells derived from adult and embryonic rats; and percentage of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in the differentiated cells. RESULTS: Neural stem cells derived from adult and embryonic rats were cultivated in differentiation medium. Six days later, differentiated cells were immunoreactive for tyrosine hydroxylase. The percentage of tyrosine hydroxylase positive neurons was (5.6 ± 2.8)% and (17.8 ± 4.2)% for adult and embryonic cells, respectively, with a significant difference between the groups (P < 0.01). | 7 | Panax notoginseng saponins influence on transplantation of neural stem cell-derived dopaminergic neurons in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease显示文摘BACKGROUND: Dopaminergic neurons differentiated from neural stem cells have been successfully used in the treatment of rat models of Parkinson’s disease; however, the survival rate of transplanted cells has been low. Most cells die by apoptosis as a result of overloaded intracellular calcium and the formation of oxygen free radicals. OBJECTIVE: To observe whether survival of transplanted cells, transplantation efficacy, and dopaminergic differentiation from neural stem cells is altered by Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Cellular and molecular biology experiments with randomized group design. The experiment was performed at the Animal Experimental Center, First Hospital of Sun Yat-sen Uni- versity from April to October 2007. MATERIALS: Thirty-two adult, healthy, male Sprague Dawley rats, and four healthy Sprague Dawley rat embryos at gestational days 14-15 were selected. The right ventral mesencephalon was injected with 6-hydroxydopamine to establish a model of Parkinson’s disease. 6-hydroxydopamine and apomorphine were purchased from Sigma, USA. METHODS: Neural stem cells derived from the mesencephalon of embryonic rats were cultivated and passaged in serum-free culture medium. Lesioned animals were randomly divided into four groups (n = 8): dopaminergic neuron, dopaminergic neuron + PNS, PNS, and control. The dopaminergic neuron group was injected with 3 μL cell suspension containing dopaminergic neurons differentiated from neural stem cells. The dopaminergic neurons + PNS group received 3 μL dopaminergic cell suspension combined with PNS (250 mg/L). The PNS group received 3 μL PNS (250 mg/L), and the control group received 3 μL DMEM/F12 culture medium. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The rats were transcardially perfused with 4% paraformaldehyde at 60 days post-grafting for immunohistochemistry. The rats were intraperitoneally injected with apomorphine (0.5 mg/kg) to induce rotational behavior. RESULTS: Cell counts of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in the dopaminergic neuron + PNS group were (732±82.6) cells/400-fold field. This was significantly greater than the dopaminergic neuron group [(326 ± 34.8) cells/400-fold field, P < 0.01]. Compared to the control group, the rotational asymmetry of rats that received dopaminergic neuron transplants was significantly decreased, beginning at 20 days after opera- tion (P < 0.01). Rotational asymmetry was further reduced between 10-60 days post-surgery in the dopaminergic neuron + PNS group, compared to the dopaminergic neuron group (P < 0.01). | 8 | The design of predictive control with characterized set of initial condition for constrained switched nonlinear system显示文摘Stabilization of the constrained switched nonlinear systems is an attractive research subject. Predictive control can handle variable constraints well and make the system stable. Its stability is typically based on an assumption of initial feasibility of the optimization problem; however the set of initial conditions, starting from where a given predictive formulation is guaranteed to be feasible, is not explicitly characterized. In this paper, a hybrid predictive control method is proposed for a class of switched nonlinear systems with input constraints and un-measurable states. The main idea is to design a mixed controller using Lyapunov functions and a state observer, which switches appropriately between a bounded feedback controller and a predictive controller, and to give an explicitly characterized set of initial conditions to stabilize each closed-loop subsystem. For the whole switched nonlinear system, a suitable switched law based on the state estimation is designed to orchestrate the transitions between the consistituent modes and their respective controllers, and to ensure the whole closed-loop system's stability. | 10 | Enhanced Hole-Injection Property in an OLED with a Self-assembled Monolayer of Hole-Transporting TPD on Thin Au as the Anode显示文摘A thioester-functionalized triphenylamine hole-transporting molecule(TPD-SAc) was synthesized and self-assembled to form a monolayer on an ultra-thin Au film supported on indium-tin oxide glass. The modified surface was characterized by aqueous contact angle, ellipsometer, atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and ultraviolet photoelectron spectrometer to substantiate the formation of compact and pinhole-free monolayers. The modified organic light emitting diode device [indium-tin oxide/Au(5 nm)/self-assembled monolayers(SAM)/TPD(50 nm)/Alq_3(40 nm)/TPBI(15 nm)/LiF(1 nm)/Al(100 nm)] showed a luminance of 7303.90 cd/m^2 and a current efficiency of 8.49 cd/A with 1.78 and 2.29-fold increase, respectively, compared to the control device without SAM. | 11 | Desulfurization of Petroleum Coke by Calcination in Ammonia Atmosphere below 1000℃显示文摘The desulfurization efficiency and mechanism of the calcination of petroleum coke in ammonia atmosphere at lower than 1000 ℃ were investigated through a series of conditional experiments and comparison with other gases such as H_2. The topics of efficiency and reaction mechanism are usually discussed through investigation by means of the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) technique, and the thermogravimetry coupled with the mass spectrometry(TG-MS). Results showed that in addition to H_2, ammonia not only could retain a high desulfurization rate but could also reduce coke loss during the desulfurization process of petroleum coke. The best desulfurization conditions covered a petroleum coke particle size of less than 0.1 mm, a calcination temperature of 800 ℃ in ammonia atmosphere with a flow rate of 10 L/h, and a heating duration of more than 120 min. Ammonia decomposition, H_2 generation, decline in the activation energy of the carbon–sulfur bonds, and petroleum coke with a largest specific surface area at 800 ℃ are the key goals of desulfurization studied thereby.
