| 2 | Nasopharyngeal carcinoma in Indonesia:epidemiology,incidence,signs,and symptoms at presentation显示文摘Among all head and neck (H&N) cancers,nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) represents a distinct entity regarding epidemiology,clinical presentation,biological markers,carcinogenic risk factors,and prognostic factors.NPC is endemic in certain regions of the world,especially in Southeast Asia,and has a poor prognosis.In Indonesia,the recorded mean prevalence is 6.2/100 000,with 13 000 yearly new NPC cases,but otherwise little is documented on NPC in Indonesia.Here,we report on a group of 1121 NPC patients diagnosed and treated at Dr.Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital,Jakarta,Indonesia between 1996 and 2005.We studied NPC incidence among all H&N cancer cases (n=6000) observed in that period,focusing on age and gender distribution,the ethnic background of patients,and the disease etiology.We also analyzed most prevalent signs and symptoms and staging of NPC patients at first presentation.In this study population,NPC was the most frequent H&N cancer (28.4%),with a male-to-female ratio of 2.4,and was endemic in the Javanese population.Interestingly,NPC appeared to affect patients at a relatively young age (20% juvenile cases) without a bimodal age distribution.Mostly,NPC initiated in the fossa of Rosenmuller and spreaded intracranially or locally as a mass in the head.Occasionally,NPC developed at the submucosal level spreading outside the anatomic limits of the nasopharynx.At presentation,NPC associated with hearing problems,serous otitis media,tinnitus,nasal obstruction,anosmia,bleeding,difficulty in swallowing and dysphonia,and even eye symptoms with diplopia and pain.The initial diagnosis is difficult to make because early signs and symptoms of NPC are not specific to the disease.Early-age Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection combined with frequent exposure to environmental carcinogenic co-factors is suggested to cause NPC development.Undifferentiated NPC is the most frequent histological type and is closely associated with EBV.Expression of the EBV-encoded latent membrane protein 1(LMP1) oncogene in biopsy material was compared between NPC patients of <30 years old and those of ≥30 years old,matched for sex and tumor stage.Higher LMP1 expression in patients of <30 years old was observed,which was related to more locoregional progressivity.Increased medical awareness of prevailing early stage signs and symptoms coupled to use of EBV-related diagnostic tumor markers may lead to down-staging and timely treatment to improve survival of patients with this aggressive disease. | Marlinda Adham Antonius N.Kurniawan Arina Ika Muhtadi Averdi Roezin Bambang Hermani Soehartati Gondhowiardjo I Bing Tan Jaap M.Middeldorp | 2012 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2012,31,4: | 22 |

| 6 | Destruction of methylphosphonic acid in a supercritical water oxidation bench-scale double wall reactor显示文摘The destruction of methylphosphonic acid (MPA), a final product by hydrolysis/neutralization of organophosphorus agents such as sarin and VX (O-ethyl S-[2-(diisopropylamino)ethyl] methylphosphonothionate), was investigated in a a bench-scale, continuous concentric vertical double wall reactor under supercritical water oxidation condition. The experiments were conducted at a temperature range of 450-600°C and a fixed pressure of 25 MPa. Hydrogen peroxide was used as an oxidant. The destruction efficiency (DE) was monitored by analyzing total organic carbon (TOC) and MPA concentrations using ion chromatography on the liquid effluent samples. The results showed that the DE of MPA up to 99.999% was achieved at a reaction temperature of 600°C, oxygen concentration of 113% storichiometric requirement, and reactor residence time of 8 sec. On the basis of the data derived from experiments, a global kinetic rate equation for the DE of MPA and DE of TOC were developed by nonlinear regression analysis. | 7 | Chalcone analogue as potent anti-malarial compounds against Plasmodium falciparum:Synthesis,biological evaluation,and docking simulation study显示文摘Objective: To investigate in vitro antimalarial activity of chalcone derivative compounds against Plasmodum falciparum 3D7(Pf3D7) strain and in silico antimalarial activity.Methods: Synthesis of the chalcone derivatives was conducted via Claisen-Schmidt method using NaOH 60% base as catalyst. An in vitro antimalarial activity assay was carried out according to the Rieckmann method against the chloroquine-sensitive Pf3D7 strain. Molecular docking studies of the prepared compounds were performed using Discovery Studio 3.1(Accelrys, Inc., San Diego, USA) software to dihydrofolate reductases-thymidylate synthase(PfDHFR-TS) protein with Protein Data Bank ID of 1J3I.pdb(sensitive-protein) and ID: 4DP3.pdb(resistance-protein).Results: This work has successfully synthesized seven chalcone derivatives with a great antimalarial activity. It has been revealed that allyloxy, hydroxy and alkoxy functional groups could increase the antimalarial activity of the chalcone derivatives. The best antimalarial activity of the prepared compounds was possessed by 3b with an IC_(50) value of 0.59 μM and categorized as an excellent antiplasmodial. Molecular docking studies of 3b showed binding interaction with the amino acid residues such as Ala16. Ile 164. Phe58.Tyr170 of the 1J3I.pdb protein and also Ala16, Phe58, Ile 112, Met55 of the 4DP3.pdb protein.Conclusions: An in vitro antimalarial assay of the prepared chalcone derivative(3a-g)showed an excellent and good antiplasmodial activity against the chloroquine-sensitive Pf3D7 strain. | 8 | Anti-diabetic potential of Urena lobata leaf extract through inhibition of dipeptidyl peptidase IV activity显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the anti-diabetic potential of leaf extract from Urena lobata(U. lobata) through dipeptidyl peptidase IV(DPP-IV) inhibitory activity.Methods: U. lobata leaf was extracted in hot water and ethanol. The activity of DPPIV inhibitor was tested by in vitro study using gly-pro-p-nitroanilide as substrat of DPPIV and vildagliptin, as standard reference. A product of the reactions between gly-pro-pnitroanilide and DPP-IV, was observed by microplate readers with λ = 405 nm. All data were expressed as mean ± SD and the IC50 value was determined by non linear regression curve fit. Active substances in leaf extract of U. lobata was analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. DPP-IV inhibitory activity of active compounds was evaluated in silico using docking server. Results: The ethanolic extract of U. lobata showed stronger DPP-IV inhibitor activity than water extract with the IC50 values of 1 654.64 and 6 489.88 μg/mL, respectively. Vildagliptin, based on standard reference for DPP-IV inhibitor activity, has IC50 value of 57.44 μg/mL. Based on in silico analysis, mangiferin, stigmasterol and β-sitosterol in U. lobata extract have a strong inhibitory activity on DPP-IV. | 9 | Scanometry as microplate reader for high throughput method based on DPPH dry reagent for antioxidant assay显示文摘The stable chromogenic radical 1,1'-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) solution was immobilized on the microwell plate as dry reagent to construct a simple antioxidant sensor. Then, a regular flatbed scanner was used as microplate reader to obtain analytical parameters for antioxidant assay using one-shot optical sensors as scanometry technique. Variables affecting the acquisition of the images were optimized and the analytical parameters are obtained from an area of the sensing zone inside microwell using the average luminosity of the sensing zone captured as the mean of red, green, and blue(RGB)value using Image J~program. By using this RGB value as sensor response, it is possible to determine antioxidant capacity in the range 1–25 ppm as gallic acid equivalent(GAE) with the response time of 9 min. The reproducibility of sensor was good(RSD<1%) with recovery at 93%–96%. The antioxidant sensor was applied to the plant extracts, such as sappan wood and Turmeric Rhizome. | 10 | Decomposition kinetics of dimethyl methylphospate(chemical agent simulant) by supercritical water oxidation显示文摘Supercritical water oxidation(SCWO) has been drawing much attention due to effectively destroy a large variety of high-risk wastes resulting from munitions demilitarization and complex industrial chemical. An important design consideration in the development of supercritical water oxidation is the information of decomposition rate. In this paper, the decomposition rate of dimethyl methylphosphonate(DMMP), which is similar to the nerve agent VX and GB(Sarin) in its structure, was investigated under SCWO conditions. The experiments were performed in an isothermal tubular reactor with a H2O2 as an oxidant. The reaction temperatures were ranged from 398 to 633℃ at a fixed pressure of 24 MPa. The conversion of DMMP was monitored by analyzing total organic carbon(TOC) on the liquid effluent samples. It is found that the oxidative decomposition of DMMP proceeded rapidly and a high TOC decomposition up to 99.99% was obtained within 11 s at 555℃. On the basis of data derived from experiments, a global kinetic equation for the decomposition of DMMP was developed. Internet telerobotics system refers to a robot system controlled and monitored remotely through the Internet. A robot manipulator with five degrees of freedom, called Mentor, is employed. Client-server architecture is chosen as a platform for our Internet telerobotics system. Three generations of telerobotics systems have evolved in this research. The first generation was based on CGI and two tiered architectures, where a client presents a Graphical User Interface to the user, and utilizes the user's data entry and actions to perform requests to robot server running on a different machine. The second generation was developed using Java. We also employ Java 3D for creating and manipulating 3D geometry of manipulator links, and for constructing the structures used in rendering that geometry, resulting in 3D robot movement simulation presented to the users (clients) through their web browser. Recent development in our Internet telerobotics includes object recognition through image captured by a camera, which poses challenging problem, giving the undeterministic latency of the Internet. | 15 | Schwannoma of the upper cervical spine-a case report显示文摘Upper cervical schwannoma is rare,and belongs to benign tumors that is usually asymptomatic.It accounted for only ten percent of schwannomas cases and mostly occurs in 40-50 years old patients.Aggressive and total resection is the treatment of choice for this tumor.Preoperative diagnosis is difficult,relying on clinical suspicion,and confirmed by surgical pathology.We report a 54-year-old male patient with chief complain of progressive weakness and numbness of his right arm for four months.He had a history of lymph node tumor in 2007 and excised in 2011.Neurological decrease was found on the right arm.The radiographic examination showed lytic lesion on the second,third,and fourth cervical spine.Computed tomography scan showed destruction extending to the first cervical vertebra.Capsulated extradural and extramedullary mass and compression to the spinal cord was found from the magnetic resonance imaging.Two-stage operation was performed.The first stage was posterior decompression with occipitocervical fusion and instrumentation,while the second was anterior decompression and iliac strut graft.Both operations performed using the surgical ultrasonic dissector.During three months'follow-up,it showed neurological improving.Neurological deficit appears when there is compression on the spinal cord.Total resection is the treatment of choice for these tumors.Preoperative imaging should be performed to exclude malignant tumor and found tumor extension. | Primadenny Ariesa Airlangga Bambang Prijambodo Aries Rakhmat Hidayat Steesy Benedicta | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Traumatology2019,22,6: | 1 |
