Metasurface doublet-integrated bidirectional grating antenna enabling enhanced wavelength-tuned beam steering显示文摘We propose and demonstrate an optical phased-array-based bidirectional grating antenna(BDGA) in silicon nitride waveguides. The BDGA is integrated with a miniaturized all-dielectric metasurface doublet(MD) formed on a glass substrate. The BDGA device, which takes advantage of alternately feeding light to its ports in opposite directions,is presumed to effectively provide a doubled wavelength-tuned steering efficiency compared to its unidirectional counterpart. The MD,which is based on vertically cascaded convex and concave metalenses comprising circular hydrogenated amorphous silicon nanopillars,is meticulously placed atop the BDGA chip to accept and deflect a beam emanating from the emission area, thereby boosting the beam-steering performance. The manufactured BDGA could achieve an enhanced beam-steering efficiency of 0.148 deg/nm as well as a stable spectral emission response in the wavelength range of 1530–1600 nm.By deploying a fabricated MD atop the silicon photonic BDGA chip, the steering efficiency was confirmed to be boosted by a factor of ~3.1,reaching 0.461 deg/nm,as intended. | WOO-BIN LEE CHUL-SOON IM CHANGYI ZHOU BISHAL BHANDARI DUK-YONG CHOI SANG-SHIN LEE | 2022 | Photonics Research2022,10,1: | 0

Cognitive and biological challenges of menopausal women in India显示文摘During menopause, women undergo various physical and psychological changes that often create a significant challenge for most women to function in their daily activities. The present study explores the different literature findings on challenges women face during their menopausal stage, primarily cognitive and biological. The present study selected around seventy research papers under the timeline of 2000 to 2021 and collected from various medical journals such as Lancet and Menopause.Women during menopause often face cognitive challenges such as primary memory functioning, attention, and perception, which significantly lead to forgetfulness or dementia.Biologically, women in their menopause could develop hypertension, hair fall, skin loosening, coronary disease, and many more, which could cause significant damage to their daily functioning. The study further explored the condition of Indian women with their menopausal symptoms.Indian women tend to develop more challenges than many other countries due to a lack of medical facilities and poor personal relationships.Due to a lack of awareness and poor public policies, fewer provisions are in force for menopausal women. Moreover, working women tend to experience low self-esteem and poor confidence due to a lack of support and no specific policy for menopause.Necessary interventions such as yoga, psychological interventions, physical support, and awareness programs in general and at the workplace and other public spaces will help ensure a supportive environment for women during menopause. | Bishal Patangia Anuradha Sathiyaseelan Soumonetra Chaudhury | 2022 | Life Research2022,5,3: | 0
Occupational, environmental and psychosocial factors impacting reproductive health of women working in manufacturing sector in India:a systematic review显示文摘Background:Women working in manufacturing are exposed to harmful chemicals and gases;environmental and psychosocial factors such as stress, anxiety, and burnout severely affect their reproductive health.Like physiological factors, psychosocial factors equality disrupts women’s reproductive health who are working in such aversive circumstances.Method:The current study is a systematic review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis checklist. The primary sources of articles were central databases such as SCOPUS,Web of Science,PubMed,and others.Cambridge Quality Checklist was used to measure the quality of the review articles.Result:A total of 14 articles were found eligible for the review;5 studies were on occupational health in general,3 studies addressed menstrual distress,3 studies on pregnancy, and 3 on menopausal issues.Pandemic experiences increase the health risk with the rise in food and financial insecurity among manufacturing workers. Conclusion:Psychosocial factors such as stress, anxiety, loneliness, discrimination, and depression are associated with a risk to reproductive health. The uncertainty caused by the pandemic was a major stressor for the manufacturing workers in India. The findings would represent significant challenges and factors affecting women’s reproductive health.Proper interventions and measures could be taken to regulate health risks. | Bishal Patangia Anuradha Sathiyaseelan Noel Singh Dias Ashwini M | 2023 | Life Research2023,6,2: | 0
Biopsychosocial impact of discrimination on cancer risk and outcome: A conceptual review显示文摘Discrimination,a major social factor influencing health, can influence both the risk and course of cancer. The medical and psychological mechanisms through which discrimination can impact the onset and spread of cancer are explored in depth in this conceptual evaluation. In addition to investigating the ethical aspects of discrimination in cancer research,it also studies the effects of bias on cancer detection and therapy. In addition, this review provides suggestions for reducing the effect of discrimination on cancer risk and outcomes.Discrimination,in particular, can trigger the growth and spread of cancer via various pathways, including stress, inflammation, and changes in epigenetic patterns. It can also affect the immune system, making the body more vulnerable to the proliferation of cancerous cells.Discrimination can result in hindrances or delays in the process of cancer screening and treatment, and it can influence the quality of care for individuals suffering from cancer. This can contribute to the presence of disparities in terms of cancer vulnerability, occurrence, mortality, and survival rates among different demographic groups.Various measures can be implemented to mitigate the impact of discrimination on cancer vulnerability and outcomes. These measures address the underlying causes of discrimination, ensure that all individuals have access to exceptional cancer care, promote the acquisition of cultural proficiency and anti-bias training by healthcare providers, and develop and implement interventions to reduce discrimination’s impact on cancer vulnerability, screening, and treatment. | Bishal Patangia | 2023 | Psychosomatic Medicine Research2023,5,4: | 0
Use of stimulatory responsive soft nanoparticles for intracellular drug delivery显示文摘Drug delivery has made tremendous advances in the last decade.Targeted therapies are increasingly common, with intracellular delivery highly impactful and sought after.Intracellular drug delivery systems have limitations due to imprecise and non-targeted release profiles. One way this can be addressed is through using stimuli-responsive soft nanoparticles, which contain materials with an organic backbone such as lipids and polymers. The choice of biomaterial is essential for soft nanoparticles to be responsive to internal or external stimuli. The nanoparticle must retain its integrity and payload in non-targeted physiological conditions while responding to particular intracellular environments where payload release is desired.Multiple internal and external factors could stimulate the intracellular release of drugs from nanoparticles.Internal stimuli include pH,oxidation, enzymes, while external stimuli include ultrasound, light, electricity, magnetic fields.Stimulatory responsive soft nanoparticulate systems specifically utilized to modulate intracellular delivery of drugs are explored in this review. | Krystal A Hughes Bishal Misra Maryam Maghareh Sharan Bobbala | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,5: | 0
Experimental tomographic methods for analysing flow dynamics of gas-oil- water flows in horizontal pipeline显示文摘Gas-oil-water three phase flow is of practical significance in oil and gas industries. An insight into the dynamics of such multiphase flows is significantly valuable to obtain optimal design parameters and operational conditions. Since flow patterns are sensitive to pipe geometry, flow conditions and thermophysical properties of fluid, it is extremely challenging to provide a universal solution for visualisation of three phase horizontal flows. This study deals with a fully developed, turbulent three phase flow and presents the outcomes of electrical tomographic imaging techniques to visualise gas-oil-water flows in a horizontal pipeline. | Qiang WANG Jiri POLANSKY Bishal KARKI Mi WANG Kent WEI Changhua QIU Asaad KENBAR David MILLINGTON | 2016 | Journal of Hydrodynamics2016,28,6: | 0
