Interactive Effects Between Temperature and PM_(2.5) on Mortality:A Study of Varying Coefficient Distributed Lag Model-Guangzhou,Guangdong Province,China,2013-2020显示文摘Introduction:There is a large body of epidemiological evidence showing significantly increased mortality risks from air pollution and temperature. However, findings on the modification of the association between air pollution and mortality by temperature are mixed. Methods:We used a varying coefficient distributed lag model to assess the complex interplay between air temperature and PM_(2.5) on daily mortality in Guangzhou City from 2013 to 2020,with the aim of establishing the PM_(2.5)-mortality association at different temperatures and exploring synergetic mortality risks from PM_(2.5) and temperature on vulnerable populations. Results:We observed near-linear concentrationresponse associations between PM_(2.5) and mortality across different temperature levels. Each 10μg/m^(3)increase of PM_(2.5) in low, medium, and high temperature strata was associated with increments of 0.73%[95%confidence interval(CI):0.38%,1.09%],0.12%(95%CI:−0.27%,0.52%),and 0.46%(95%CI:0.11%,0.81%)in non-accidental mortality, with a statistically significant difference between low and medium temperatures(P=0.02).There were significant modification effects of PM_(2.5) by low temperature for cardiovascular mortality and among individuals 75 years or older. Conclusions:Low temperatures may exacerbate physiological responses to short-term PM_(2.5) exposure in Guangzhou,China.Sujuan Chen Hang Dong Mengmeng Li Lin Huang Guozhen Lin Qiyong Liu Boguang Wang Jun Yang 2022China CDC weekly2022,4,26:1

A vehicle-mounted dual-smog chamber:Characterization and its preliminary application to evolutionary simulation of photochemical processes in a quasi-realistic atmosphere显示文摘Smog chambers are the effective tools for studying formation mechanisms of air pollution.Simulations by traditional smog chambers differ to a large extent from real atmospheric conditions, including light, temperature and atmospheric composition. However, the existing parameters for mechanism interpretation are derived from the traditional smog chambers. To address the gap between the traditional laboratory simulations and the photochemistry in the real atmosphere,a vehicle-mounted indoor-outdoor dual-smog chamber(JNUVMDSC)was developed, which can be quickly transferred to the desired sites to simulate quasi-realistic atmosphere simultaneously in both chambers using“local air”.Multiple key parameters of the smog chamber were characterized in the study, demonstrating that JNUVMDSC meets the requirements of general atmospheric chemistry simulation studies.Additionally, the preliminary results for the photochemical simulations of quasi-realistic atmospheres in Pearl River Delta region and Nanling Mountains are consistent with literature reports on the photochemistry in this region.JNU-VMDSC provides a convenient and reliable experimental device and means to study the mechanism of atmospheric photochemical reactions to obtain near-real results, and will make a great contribution to the control of composite air pollution.Wenlu Wang Yang Xiao Shijie Han Yang Zhang Daocheng Gong Hao Wang Boguang Wang 2023Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,10:0
A novel inactivated whole-cell Pseudomonas aeruginosa vaccine that acts through the cGAS-STING pathway显示文摘Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection continues to be a major threat to global public health, and new safe and efficacious vaccines are needed for prevention of infections caused by P.aeruginosa.X-ray irradiation has been used to prepare whole-cell inactivated vaccines against P.aeruginosa infection. However, the immunological mechanisms of X-ray-inactivated vaccines are still unclear and require further investigation. Our previous study found that an X-ray-inactivated whole-cell vaccine could provide protection against P.aeruginosa by boosting T cells. The aim of the present study was to further explore the immunological mechanisms of the vaccine.Herein,P.aeruginosa PAO1,a widely used laboratory strain, was utilized to prepare the vaccine, and we found nucleic acids and 8-hydroxyguanosine in the supernatant of X-ray-inactivated PAO1(XPa).By detecting CD86,CD80,and MHCII expression,we found that XPa fostered dentritic cell(DC)maturation by detecting.XPa stimulated the cGAS-STING pathway as well as Toll-like receptors in DCs in vitro, and DC finally underwent apoptosis and pyroptosis after XPa stimulation. In addition,DC stimulated by XPa induced CD8+T-cell proliferation in vitro and generated immunologic memory in vivo. Moreover,XPa vaccination induced both Th1 and Th2 cytokine responses in mice and reduced the level of inflammatory factors during infection.XPa protected mice in pneumonia models from infection with PAO1 or multidrug-resistant clinical isolate W9.Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)mice immunized with XPa could resist PAO1 infection. Therefore,a new mechanism of an X-ray-inactivated whole-cell vaccine against P.aeruginosa infection was discovered in this study.Cuicui Ma Xiao Ma Boguang Jiang Hailong Pan Xueyuan Liao Li Zhang Wenfang Li Yingjie Luo Zhixue Shen Xingjun Cheng Mao Lian Zhenling Wang 2021Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,11:0

Investigation of Strain-Temperature Cross-Sensitivity of FBG Strain Sensors Embedded Onto Different Substrates显示文摘The strain-temperature cross-sensitivity problem easily occurs in the engineering strain monitoring of the self-sensing embedded with fiber Bragg grating(FBG)sensors. In this work,a theoretical investigation of the strain-temperature cross-sensitivity has been performed using the temperature reference grating method. To experimentally observe and theoretically verify the problem, the substrate materials, the preloading technique, and the FBG initial central wavelength were taken as main parameters. And a series of sensitivity coefficients calibration tests and temperature compensation tests have been designed and carried out.It was found that when the FBG sensors were embedded on different substrates, their coefficients of the temperature sensitivity were significantly changed.Besides, the larger the coefficients of thermal expansion(CTE)of substrates were, the higher the temperature sensitivity coefficients would be.On the other hand, the effect of the preloading technique and FBG initial wavelength was negligible on both the strain monitoring and temperature compensation. In the case of similar substrates,we did not observe any difference between temperature sensitivity coefficients of the temperature compensation FBG with one free end or two free ends. The curves of the force along with temperature were almost overlapped with minor differences(less than 1%)gained by FBG sensors and pressure sensors, which verified the accuracy of the temperature compensation method. We suggest that this work can provide efficient solutions to the strain-temperature cross-sensitivity for engineering strain monitoring with the self-sensing element embedded with FBG sensors.Heying QIN Pengfei TANG Jing LEI Hongbin CHEN Boguang LUO 2023Photonic Sensors2023,13,1:0
O-alg-THAM/gel hydrogels functionalized with engineered microspheres based on mesenchymal stem cell secretion recruit endogenous stem cells for cartilage repair显示文摘Lacking self-repair abilities, injuries to articular cartilage can lead to cartilage degeneration and ultimately result in osteoarthritis.Tissue engineering based on functional bioactive scaffolds are emerging as promising approaches for articular cartilage regeneration and repair.Although the use of cell-laden scaffolds prior to implantation can regenerate and repair cartilage lesions to some extent, these approaches are still restricted by limited cell sources, excessive costs, risks of disease transmission and complex manufacturing practices.Acellular approaches through the recruitment of endogenous cells offer great promise for in situ articular cartilage regeneration. In this study,we propose an endogenous stem cell recruitment strategy for cartilage repair.Based on an injectable, adhesive and self-healable o-alg-THAM/gel hydrogel system as scaffolds and a biophysio-enhanced bioactive microspheres engineered based on hBMSCs secretion during chondrogenic differentiation as bioactive supplement, the as proposed functional material effectively and specifically recruit endogenous stem cells for cartilage repair, providing new insights into in situ articular cartilage regeneration.Yucong Li Linlong Li Ming Wang Boguang Yang Baozhen Huang Shanshan Bai Xiaoting Zhang Nan Hou Haixing Wang Zhengmeng Yang Chong Tang Ye Li Wayne Yuk-Wai Lee Lu Feng Micky D.Tortorella Gang Li 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,10:0
Bisphosphonate-based hydrogel mediates biomimetic negative feedback regulation of osteoclastic activity to promote bone regeneration显示文摘The intricate dynamic feedback mechanisms involved in bone homeostasis provide valuable inspiration for the design of smart biomaterial scaffolds to enhance in situ bone regeneration. In this work,we assembled a biomimetic hyaluronic acid nanocomposite hydrogel(HA-BP hydrogel)by coordination bonds with bisphosphonates(BPs),which are antiosteoclastic drugs. The HA-BP hydrogel exhibited expedited release of the loaded BP in response to an acidic environment. Our in vitro studies showed that the HA-BP hydrogel inhibits mature osteoclastic differentiation of macrophage-like RAW264.7 cells via the released BP.Furthermore, the HA-BP hydrogel can support the initial differentiation of primary macrophages to preosteoclasts, which are considered essential during bone regeneration, whereas further differentiation to mature osteoclasts is effectively inhibited by the HA-BP hydrogel via the released BP.The in vivo evaluation showed that the HA-BP hydrogel can enhance the in situ regeneration of bone. Our work demonstrates a promising strategy to design biomimetic biomaterial scaffolds capable of regulating bone homeostasis to promote bone regeneration.Zhuo Li Haixing Wang Kunyu Zhang Boguang Yang Xian Xie Zhengmeng Yang Lingchi Kong Peng Shi Yuan Zhang Yi-Ping Ho Zhi-Yong Zhang Gang Li Liming Bian 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,7:0
