6Application of the neuromuscular fatigue threshold treadmill test to muscles of the quadriceps and hamstrings显示文摘Purpose:The purposes of the present study were:(1)to determine whether the physical working capacity at the fatigue threshold(PWCFT)model that has been used for estimating the onset of neuromuscular fatigue in the vastus lateralis(VL)during incremental treadmill running could also be applied to the vastus medialis(VM),biceps femoris(BF),and semitendinosus(ST)muscles;and(2)if applicable,to compare the running velocities associated with the PWCFT among these muscles.Methods:Eleven subjects(age 21.7±1.8 years)performed an incremental treadmill test to exhaustion with electromyographic signals recorded from the VL,VM,BF,and ST.Results:The results indicated there were no significant(p>0.05)mean differences in the running velocities associated with the PWCFT for the VL(14.4±2.0 km/h),VM(14.3±1.9 km/h),BF(13.8±1.8 km/h),and ST(14.7±2.3 km/h).In addition,there were significant inter-correlations(r=0.68-0.88)among running velocities associated with the PWCFT of each muscle.Individual results also indicated that 9 of the 11 subjects exhibited identical PWCFT values for at least 3 of the 4 muscles,but there were no uniform patterns for any intra-individual differences.Conclusion:The findings of the present study suggested that the PWCFT test is a viable method to identify neuromuscular fatigue in the quadriceps and hamstrings during incremental treadmill exercise and results in consistent PWCFT values among these muscles.Clayton L.Camic Attila J.Kovacs Trisha A.VanDusseldorp Ethan C.Hill Evan A.Enquist 2020Journal of Sport and Health Science2020,9,6:1

9Day to Day Consistency and Inter-subject Variability of Neuromuscular Responses and Performance Fatigability as the Result of Maximal,Bilateral,Dynamic Leg Extensions显示文摘Purpose The purpose of the present study was to examine the day-to-day consistency and inter-subject variability of com-posite and individual,neuromuscular and torque patterns of responses as a result of a fatiguing bout of maximal,bilateral,isokinetic leg extension muscle actions.Methods Ten men (Mean ± SD =21.6 ± 2.5 years) completed two testing visits consisting of pretest and posttest maximal voluntary isometric contractions (MVIC) as well as 25 maximal,bilateral,isokinetic (180°/s),leg extension muscle actions.Electromyographic (EMG) and mechanomyographic (MMG) signals were collected from the vastus lateralis and normalized to the MVIC.Performance fatigability was defined as the percent decline in torque between the average of repetitions 1,2,and 3 and repetitions 23,24,and 25.Polynomial regression was used to examine the individual and composite relation-ships between EMG amplitude (AMP),EMG mean power frequency (MPF),MMG AMP,MMG MPF,and torque versus repetitions.Results There was no significant difference (d =0.80;P =0.17) in the performance fatigability between Day 1 (19.3% ± 7.1%)and Day 2 (26.9% ± 11.3%).Polynomial regression indicated substantial inter-subject variability,but high day-to-day consistency.Conclusion The composite EMG AMP,MMG AMP,and MMG MPF patterns of responses demonstrated consistency across days.The composite EMG MPF patterns of responses,however,were not consistent between Day 1 and Day 2.In addition,based on the high inter-subject variability,future studies should present both composite patterns of neuromuscular responses and the patterns of responses on a subject-by-subject basis to make inferences regarding fatigue-induced changes in motor unit activation strategies.Joshua L.Keller Terry J.Housh John Paul V.Anders Cory M.Smith Ethan C.Hill Richard J.Schmidt Glen O.Johnson 2021Journal of Science in Sport and Exercise2021,3,2:0
