1NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF BUBBLE FLOW INTERACTIONS显示文摘Bubble flow interaction can be important in many practical engineering applications. For instance,cavitation is a problem of interaction between nuclei and local pressure field variations including turbulent oscillations and large scale pressure variations. Various types of behaviours fundamentally depend on the relative sizes of the nuclei and the length scales of the pressure variations as well as the relative importance of bubble natural periods of oscillation and the characteristic time of the field pressure variations. Similarly,bubbles can significantly affect the performance of lifting devices or propulsors. We present here some fundamental numerical studies of bubble dynamics and deformation,then a practical method using a multi-bubble Surface Averaged Pressure(DF-Multi-SAP) to simulate cavitation inception and scaling,and connect this with more precise 3-D simulations. 2EFFECT OF A PROPELLER AND GAS DIFFUSION ON BUBBLE NUCLEI DISTRIBUTION IN A LIQUID显示文摘A multi-bubble dynamics code accounting for gas diffusion in the liquid and through the bubble wall was developed and used to study the modification of a bubble nuclei population dynamics by a propeller.The propeller flow field was obtained using a Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) solver and bubble nuclei populations were propagated in this field.The numerical pro-cedure enabled establishment of the possibility of production behind the propeller of relatively large visible bubbles starting from typical ocean nuclei size distributions.The resulting larger bubbles are seen to cluster in the blade wakes and tip vortices.Parametric investigations of the initial nuclei size distribution,the dissolved gas concentration,and the cavitation number were conducted to ide-ntify their effects on bubble entrainment and the resultant void fractions and bubble distribution modifications downstream from the propeller.Imposed synthetic turbulence-like fluctuations unto the average RANS flow field were also used to study the effect avera-ging in the RANS procedure has on the results.HSIAO Chao-Tsung CHAHINE Georges L. 2012Journal of Hydrodynamics2012,24,6:7

5Cervical cellulitis and mediastinitis following esophageal perforation:A case report显示文摘Chicken bone is one of the most frequent foreign bodies (FB) associated with upper esophageal perforation. Upper digestive tract penetrating FB may lead to life threatening complications and requires prompt management. We present the case of a 52-year-old man who sustained an upper esophageal perforation associated with cervical cellulitis and mediastinitis. Following CT-scan evidence of FB penetrating the esophagus, the impacted FB was successfully extracted under rigid esophagoscopy. Direct suture was required to close the esophageal perforation. Cervical and mediastinal drainage were made immediately. Naso- gastric tube decompression, broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics, and parenteral hyperalimentation were administered for 10 d postoperatively. An esophagogram at d 10 revealed no leak at the repair site, and oral alimentation was successfully reinstituted. Conclusion: Rigid endoscope management of FB esophageal penetration is a simple, safe and effective procedure. 6EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF BUBBLE AUGMENTED WATERJET PROPULSION显示文摘This contribution presents experimental and numerical investigations of the concept jet propulsion augmentation using bubble injection. A half-3D (D-shaped cylindrical configuration to enable optimal visualizations) divergent-convergent nozzle was designed, built, and used for extensive experiments under different air injection conditions and thrust measurement schemes. The design, optimization, and analysis were conducted using numerical simulations. The more advanced model was based on a two-way coupling between an Eulerian description of the flow field and a Lagrangian tracking of the injected bubbles using our Surface Averaged Pressure (SAP) model. The numerical results compare very favorably with nozzle experiments and both experiments and simulations validation the thrust augmentation concept. For a properly designed nozzle and air injection system, air injection produces net thrust augmentation, which increases with the rate of bubble injection. Doubling of thrust was measured for a 50% air injection rate. 8ACOUSTIC MEASUREMENTS BUBBLES IN BIOLOGICAL TIESSURE显示文摘An acoustic based instrument, the ABS Acoustic Bubble Spectrometer?? (ABS), was investigated for the detection and quantification of bubbles in biological media. These include viscoelastic media (blood), materials of varying density (bone in tissue), non-homogenous distribution of bubbles (intravenous bubbly flow), and bubbles migrating in tissue (decompression sickness, DCS). The performance of the ABS was demonstrated in a series of laboratory experiments. Validation of the code was performed using a viscoelastic polymer solution, Polyox, in which the bubble size distribution and void fraction were determined by ABS measurements and with image analysis of high speed videos. These tests showed that the accuracy of the ABS was not significantly affected by viscoelasticity for bubbles smaller than 200 microns. The ABS detection and measurement of non-homogenous bubble distributions was demonstrated using a bubbly flow through a simulated vein surrounded by tissue. The scatter of acoustic signals due to bones in the acoustic pathway was also investigated. These in-vitro experiments were done using meat (beef) as a tissue simulant. Decompression experiments were done using beef meat which was held underwater at high pressure (9.9 atm) then rapidly decompressed. Bubble size distributions and void fraction calculations in these experiments were then validated using image analysis of high speed video. In addition, preliminary experiments were performed with the US Navy Medical Research Center, demonstrating the utility of the modified ABS system in detecting the evolution of bubbles in swine undergoing decompression sickness (DCS). These results indicate that the ABS may be used to detect and quantify the evolution of bubbles in-vivo and aid in the monitoring of DCS.CHAHINE Georges L. 10Effect of deep transverse friction massage vs stretching on football players’ performance显示文摘BACKGROUND Flexibility,agility and muscle strength are key factors to either win or lose a game.Recently the effect of a new technique,deep transverse friction massage(DTFM)on muscle extensibility as compared to traditional stretching techniques has been examined.AIM To compare the effect of DTFM vs static and dynamic stretching techniques on the hamstring’s extensibility,agility,and strength amongst Lebanese and Syrian football players.Recording the incidence of non-contact hamstring muscle injury was a secondary objective.METHODS This study is a single-blinded prospective longitudinal randomized controlled trial.The experiment took place over a period of four weeks.Football players were randomized into three intervention groups(static stretching;dynamic stretching;DTFM).Participants of each group were followed-up carefully by assessors during their intervention sessions three times per week,for a total of 12 sessions and during the data collection.Extensibility,agility,and strength were compared between intervention groups at(baseline;acute;and chronic)phases.Straight leg raise and 1 repetition maximum tests were used to measure the dominant leg hamstring muscle extensibility and maximal strength respectively.T-drill test was used to assess the lower extremities agility.RESULTS Of 103 Lebanese and Syrian male football players aged between 18 and 35 were sampled from Damascus-Syria and South of Lebanon to participate in this study.Between-groups measures of acute strength(P=0.011)and chronic extensibility(P=0.000)solely showed a significant difference,and the static group showed to be superior as compared to the other groups.No loss to follow-up or protocol violation was recorded.CONCLUSION Static stretching is showing to be superior to the other techniques used,regarding gaining long-term extensibility and short-term maximal muscle strength.In addition,DTFM showed improvements but did not outweigh the effects on footballers’performance when comparing it to static and dynamic techniques.Finally,no difference between the interventions is recorded regarding the rate of muscle injuries incidence.Mohammed Ali Fakhro Hussein Chahine Hassan Srour Kasim Hijazi 2020World Journal of Orthopedics2020,11,1:2
