| 1 | What is going on in magnesium alloys?显示文摘China has been developed into one of the most active regions in terms of both fundamental and applied research on magnesium(Mg) and its alloys in the world from a solid base laid by its prominent metallurgist and materials scientists over the past decades. Nowadays, a large number of young-generation researchers have been inspired by their predecessors and become the key participants in the fields of Mg alloys, which consequently led to the establishment of China Youth Scholar Society for Magnesium Alloys Research in 2015. Since then, the first two China Youth Scholars Symposiums on Mg Alloys Research had been held at Harbin(2015) and Chongqing(2016) China, respectively. A number of crucial research interests related to fundamental and applied Mg research were discussed at the conferences and summarized in this short perspective, aiming to boost far-reaching initiatives for development of new Mg-based materials to satisfy the requirements for a broad range of industrial employments. Herein, four main aspects are included as follows: i) Plastic deformation mechanism and strengthening strategy, ii) Design and development of new Mg-based materials, iii) Key service properties, and iv) New processing technologies. | X.J. | 2 | Effects of Boron Addition on Grain Refinement in TiAl-based Alloys显示文摘Solid state phase transformation characteristics of the body centred β(Ti) into the hexagonal closed packed α(Ti) in Ti45Al8Nb-(0, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.8 at. pct) B alloys were investigated by heat treatment to clarify γ/α2 lamellar microstructure refinement induced by B addition. Experimental results confirmed two kinds of boron-reduced grain refinement mechanisms through refining either β phase then α phase (β-refinement) or α phase directly (α-refinement) to refine lamellar microstructure at room temperature; however, the role of α-refinement dominated the as-cast lamellar microstructure refinement over β-refinement in Ti45Al8NbxB alloy. It was also found that during the α-refinement the convoluted flake- and plate-like borides along β grain boundaries assisted nucleation of α phase, and the particle-like borides near β grain boundaries impeded α phase growth. | W.D. | 4 | STUDY ON VERTICAL WATER TEMPERATURE MODEL FOR MIYUN RESERVOIR显示文摘According to the characters of the Miyun reservoir located in northeast Beijing, one dimensional method is used to establish the mathematical model of temperature for the reservoir. In this model the heat exchange between water surface and atmosphere, effective diffusion, inflows, outflows, and thermal advection are considered comprehensively. The effective diffusion coefficient, decay coefficient of short wave in water, etc. are calibrated based on the observed stratification data of 1991 in the reservoir. The mathematical model is verified well with the data of 1992.
