| 2 | A new discovery of macroscopic fossils from the Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation in the Yangtze Gorges area显示文摘Two new horizons with macroscopic fossils are reported in the Doushantuo Formation, Ediacaran System, from the Yangtze Gorges area. The fossils were discovered in the lower and middle black shales of the Doushantuo Formation in the new section at Sandouping Town, Zigui County, Hubei Province. The new macroscopic assemblages in- clude Chuaria and Tawuia, and occur below the well- known ”Miaohe Biota”. These fossils indicate that after the Nantuo ice age, macroscopic multicellular organisms gradually increased in abundance and diversity. Simple, discoidal carbonaceous compres- sions such as chuarids are present in the initial macrofossil assemblage of the Doushantuo Stage. This assemblage was eventually replaceded by the more diverse Miaohe macrofossils, including unam- biguously branching forms, in the uppermost Dou- shantuo Formation. | 3 | Spatial Interpolation of Daily Precipitation in China:1951-2005显示文摘Climate research relies heavily on good quality instrumental data; for modeling efforts gridded data are needed. So far, relatively little effort has been made to create gridded climate data for China. This is especially true for high-resolution daily data. This work, focuses on identifying an accurate method to produce gridded daily precipitation in China based on the observed data at 753 stations for the period 1951-2005. Five interpolation methods, including ordinary nearest neighbor, local polynomial, radial basis function, inverse distance weighting, and ordinary kriging, have been used and compared. Cross-validation shows that the ordinary kriging based on seasonal semi-variograms gives the best performance, closely followed by the inverse distance weighting with a power of 2. Finally the ordinary kriging is chosen to interpolate the station data to a 18 km× 18 km grid system covering the whole country. Precipitation for each 0.5°×0.5° latitude-longitude block is then obtained by averaging the values at the grid nodes within the block. Owing to the higher station density in the eastern part of the country, the interpolation errors are much smaller than those in the west (west of 100°E). Excluding 145 stations in the western region, the daily, monthly, and annual relative mean absolute errors of the interpolation for the remaining 608 stations are 74%, 29%, and 16%, respectively. | 4 | New material of microfossils from the Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation in the Zhangcunping area, Yichang, Hubei Province and its zircon SHRIMP U-Pb age显示文摘The Zhangcunping area is located at the north limb of the Huangling anticline in Yichang, Hubei Prov-ince. Here, the sedimentary succession of the Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation is similar with that in the Weng'an area, Guizhou Province. A large number of new microfossils (mainly acanthoacritarchs) from the Doushantuo Formation in this area are reported in this paper. The fossil assemblage shows similarity as the phosphatized biota of the Doushantuo Formation at Weng'an, Guizhou Province and the silicified biota of the Doushantuo Formation at the Yangtze Gorges, which suggests that the Zhangcunping area is a key for correlation of the Doushantuo Formation between the Weng'an area, Guizhou Province and the Yangtze Gorges. Besides, a new zircon SHRIMP U-Pb age (614.0±7.6 Ma) is first obtained from a horizon underneath the exposed surface in the middle of the Doushantuo Forma-tion in the Zhangcunping area. This age not only provides a new datum for subdivision of the Ediacaran Doushantuo Formation, but also indicates that the age of the exposed surface in the middle of the Doushantuo Formation in the Yangtze Platform should be posterior to 614.0±7.6 Ma. | 5 | Spatial and temporal variability of daily precipitation in Haihe River basin, 1958-2007显示文摘The seasonal variability and spatial distribution of precipitation are the main cause of flood and drought events.The study of spatial distribution and temporal trend of precipitation in river basins has been paid more and more attention.However,in China,the precipita- tion data are measured by weather stations(WS)of China Meteorological Administration and hydrological rain gauges(RG)of national and local hydrology bureau.The WS data usually have long record with fewer stations,while the RG data usually have short record with more stations.The consistency and correlation of these two data sets have not been well understood.In this paper,the precipitation data from 30 weather stations for 1958-2007 and 248 rain gauges for 1995-2004 in the Haihe River basin are examined and compared using linear regression,5-year moving average,Mann-Kendall trend analysis,Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Z test and F test methods.The results show that the annual precipitation from both WS and RG records are normally distributed with minor difference in the mean value and variance.It is statistically feasible to extend the precipitation of RG by WS data sets.Using the extended precipitation data,the detailed spatial distribution of the annual and seasonal precipitation amounts as well as their temporal trends are calculated and mapped.The various distribution maps produced in the study show that for the whole basin the precipitation of 1958-2007 has been decreasing except for spring season.The decline trend is significant in summer,and this trend is stronger after the 1980s.The annual and seasonal precipitation amounts and changing trends are different in different regions and seasons.The precipitation is decreasing from south to north,from coastal zone to inland area. | CHU Jianting XIA Jun XU Chongyu LI Lu WANG Zhonggen | 2010 | Journal of Geographical Sciences2010,20,2: | 17 |

They are got from the fossiliferous remains after acetic acid maceration. The fossils are found together with formerly reported animal resting eggs and embryos of the earlier cleavage stage. The oblate-shaped fossils with the same size as those reported embryos and invaginate at the middle part into the embryos, show the characteristics of the late blastula to the early gas-trula stage of the embryo development. | 9 | Qingbaikouan and Crygenian in South China:Constraints by SHRIMP Zircon U-Pb dating显示文摘The Qingbaikouan System is the lowest unit of the Neoproterozoic Erathem in Chinese stratigraphic succession,and it now provides a precise geochronological framework and geological time scale for mapping and stratal correlation in China.However,a sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe(SHRIMP)U-Pb zircon age date(1368±12 Ma)obtained from a bentonite in the Qingbaikouan Xiamaling Formation indicates that it belongs to the Mesoproterozoic Erathem instead.This change is a milestone in understanding the Precambrian Stratigraphic Time Scale in China,and it has had great influence on Precambrian correlations in Asia.Otherwise,a large amount of geochronological work has been done in the'Jiangnan Orogen Belt'of South China,and new isotopic data have redefined the traditional recognition of metamorphosed Mesoproterozoic strata from the Sibao orogeny to the Neoproterozoic Erathem.Based on SHRIMP zircon U-Pb age data,the authors regard the Sibao orogeny(equal to the Wuling orogeny)as a movement at ca 820 Ma,meaning that the Sibao orogeny was not equivalent to the Grenvillian orogeny.Finally,we report here the first SHRIMP U-Pb age of the boundary between the top of the Qingbaikouan Gongdong Formation(786.8±5.6 Ma)and the bottom of the Chang’an(diamictite)Formation(778.4±5.2 Ma),which is the age of the lowest diamictite of the Nanhuan System in China. | GAO Linzhi DING Xiaozhong YIN Chongyu ZHANG Chuanheng Frank R. | 12 | A1_2O_3 Effect on the Catalytic Activity of Cu-ZnO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2 Catalysts for Dimethyl Ether Synthesis from CO_2 Hydrogenation显示文摘The effect of Al2O3 on the Cu-ZnO-Al2O3-SiO2 catalysts prepared by a pseudo sol-gel method has been investigated and these catalysts were characterized by XRD, H2-TPR, XPS, NH3-TPD and CO2- TPD techniques. As revealed by XRD and H2-TPR, the added alumina produces high dispersion of CuO and makes the reduction of CuO difficult. XPS analysis detects a remarkably high Al3+ enrichment at the surface of calcined samples, along with a decrease of Eb of Cu 2p3/2, which confirms the Cu-Al interaction. Another important role of Al2O3 would be to incorporate into the SiO2 structure to form the acid-base sites for ether formation. The reaction results shows that the addition of Al2O3 exhibits a promoting effect on the CO2 conversion only when its content is below 1.4%, and an optimal DME selectivity is obtained when 4.0%Al2O3 is added, indicating a better ’synergistic effect’ is present between the methanol forming component and the acidic component in bifunctional catalysts. Most of them are large with various spinous ornaments and multilayered outer walls. The general characters of these fossils are quite similar to those found from the homochronous deposits of the Yangtze Gorges, southern China. Therefore the Doushantuo Formation in the Weng’an area can be correlated directly with the Doushantuo Formation of the Yangtze Gorges. Four species in four genera, including two new genera, two new species and one uncertain species are systematically described for the first time from the studied locality. The taxa are Bacatisphaera baokangensis Zhou, Brasier et Xue, 2001, Taeniosphaera doushantuoensis gen. et sp. nov., Rugospinasphaera speciosa gen. et sp. nov. and Meghystichosphaeridium sp.
