| 1 | Land Use Change and Causes in the Xiangxi Catchment, Three Gorges Area Derived from Multispectral Data显示文摘The construction of the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River has extensive impact on the ecosystems and the population of the Three Gorges Area (TGA). Inundation and resettlement have induced far-reaching land use and land cover change (LUCC). The areas that are affected by measures of resettlement are in a tense situation between the implementation of various governmental tasks addressing sustainable land use and water retention and the fulfilment of the population’s economic needs, which primarily depend on agricultural production. Destabilization of slopes and soil erosion are immediate hazards induced by the impoundment. Farming is a very important source of income and has to persist on the one hand to assure the income of the rural population. On the other hand, the environment has to be protected from runoff, soil erosion and instabilities connected to relief, geology and hydraulic influences. In this study, supervised classifications are performed using Landsat-TM (1987 and 2007) and ASTER (2007) images. LUCC is assessed by post-classification change analysis. On the catchment scale, arable land has decreased significantly, while garden land (citrus orchards) and woodland have increased. LUCC mainly affects the area surrounding the reservoir ('backwater') of the Xiangxi ( 香溪 ) River, driven by local resettlement, newly built infrastructure, relocation of land cultivation, and conversion of arable land to garden land. | 4 | SLC26A4 mutation testing for hearing loss associated with enlargement of the vestibular aqueduct显示文摘Pendred syndrome(PS) is characterized by autosomal recessive inheritance of goiter associated with a defect of iodide organification, hearing loss, enlargement of the vestibular aqueduct(EVA), and mutations of the SLC26A4 gene. However, not all EVA patients have PSor SLC26A4 mutations. Two mutant alleles of SLC26A4 are detected in 1/4 of North American or European EVA populations, one mutant allele is detected in another 1/4 of patient populations, and no mutations are detected in the other 1/2. The presence of two mutant alleles of SLC26A4 is associated with abnormal iodide organification, increased thyroid gland volume, increased severity of hearing loss, and bilateral EVA. The presence of a single mutant allele of SLC26A4 is associated with normal iodide organification, normal thyroid gland volume, less severe hearing loss and either bilateral or unilateral EVA. When other underlying correlations are accounted for, the presence of a cochlear malformation or the size of EVA does not have an effect on hearing thresholds. This is consistent with observations of an Slc26a4 mutant mouse model of EVA in which hearing loss is independent of endolymphatic hydrops or inner ear malformations. Segregation analyses of EVA in families suggest that the patients carrying one mutant allele of SLC26A4 have a second, undetected mutant allele of SLC26A4, and the probability of a sibling having EVA is consistent with its segregation as an autosomal recessive trait. Patients without any mutations are an etiologically heterogeneous group in which siblings have a lower probability of having EVA. | 11 | Using agent-based simulation to assess diseaseprevention measures during pandemics显示文摘Despite the growing interest in macroscopic epidemiological models to deal with threats posed by pandemics such as COVID-19,little has been done regarding the assessment of disease spread in day-to-day life,especially within buildings such as supermarkets where people must obtain necessities at the risk of exposure to disease.Here,we propose an integrated customer shopping simulator including both shopper movement and choice behavior,using a force-based and discrete choice model,respectively.By a simple extension to the force-based model,we implement the following preventive measures currently taken by supermarkets;social distancing and one-way systems,and different customer habits,assessing them based on the average individual disease exposure and the time taken to complete shopping(shopping efficiency).Results show that maintaining social distance is an effective way to reduce exposure,but at the cost of shopping efficiency.We find that the one-way system is the optimal strategy for reducing exposure while minimizing the impact on shopping efficiency.Customers should also visit supermarkets less frequently,but buy more when they do,if they wish to minimize their exposure.We hope that this work demonstrates the potential of pedestrian dynamics simulations in assessing preventative measures during pandemics,particularly if it is validated using empirical data. | 童蕴贺 Christopher King 胡杨慧 | 2021 | Chinese Physics B2021,30,9: | 1 |
