1Tunable liquid crystal grating based holographic 3D display system with wide viewing angle and large size显示文摘As one of the most ideal display approaches,holographic 3-dimensional(3D)display has always been a research hotspot since the holographic images reproduced in such system are very similar to what humans see the actual environment.However,current holographic 3D displays suffer from critical bottlenecks of narrow viewing angle and small size.Here,we propose a tunable liquid crystal grating-based holographic 3D display system with wide viewing angle and large size.Our tunable liquid crystal grating,providing an adjustable period and the secondary diffraction of the reconstructed image,enables to simultaneously implement two different hologram generation methods in achieving wide viewing angle and enlarged size,respectively.By using the secondary diffraction mechanism of the tunable liquid crystal grating,the proposed system breaks through the limitations of narrow viewing angle and small size of holographic 3D display.The proposed system shows a viewing angle of 57.4°,which is nearly 7 times of the conventional case with a single spatial light modulator,and the size of the reconstructed image is enlarged by about 4.2.The proposed system will have wide applications in medical diagnosis,advertising,education and entertainment and other fields.Yi-Long Li Nan-Nan Li Di Wang Fan Chu Sin-Doo Lee Yi-Wei Zheng Qiong-Hua Wang 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,7:15
2Sol-gel synthesis and characterization of hydroxyapatite nanorods显示文摘In the present study hydroxyapatite (HA) nano-hexagonal rods with 70-90 nm diameter and 400-500 nm length are synthesized using a simple sol-gel route with calcium nitrate and potassium dihydrogenphos-phate as calcium and phosphorus precursors respectively. Deionized water was used as a diluting media for HA sol preparation and ammonia was used to adjust the pH=9. After aging, the HA gel was dried at 60 ℃ and calcined at different temperatures ranging from 300 to 700 ℃. The dried and calcined powders were characterized for phase composition using X-ray diffractrometry, elemental dispersive X-ray and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Rietveld analysis showed the calcined HA powders of high purity with a hexagonal unit cell structure. Calcination yielded HA nanopowders of increased particle size and crystallinity with increase in temperature. The particle size and morphology was studied using transmission electron microscopy. 4Ursolic acid: An overview on its cytotoxic activities against breast and colorectal cancer cells显示文摘Ursolic acid(UA) is a pentacyclic triterpene of the ursane type. As a common chemical constituent among species of the family Lamiaceae, UA possesses a broad spectrum of pharmacological properties. This overview focuses on the anticancer properties of UA against breast cancer(BC) and colorectal cancer(CRC)that are most common among women and men, respectively. In vitro studies have shown that UA inhibited the growth of BC and CRC cell lines through various molecular targets and signaling pathways.There are several in vivo studies on the cytotoxic activity of UA against BC and CRC. UA also inhibits the growth of other types of cancer. Studies on structural modifications of UA have shown that the –OH groups at C3 and at C28 are critical factors influencing the cytotoxic activity of UA and its derivatives.Some needs for future research are suggested. 5Prebiotic UG1601 mitigates constipation-related events in association with gut microbiota: A randomized placebo-controlled intervention study显示文摘BACKGROUND Constipation is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder and its etiology is multifactorial.Growing evidence suggests that intestinal dysbiosis is associated with the development of constipation.Prebiotics are subjected to bacterial fermentation in the gut to produce short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs),which can help relieve constipation symptoms.The prebiotic UG1601 consists of inulin,lactitol,and aloe vera gel,which are known laxatives,but randomized,controlled clinical trials that examine the effects of this supplement on gut microbiota composition are lacking.AIM To assess the efficacy of the prebiotic UG1601 in suppressing constipation-related adverse events in subjects with mild constipation.METHODS Adults with a stool frequency of less than thrice a week were randomized to receive either prebiotics or a placebo supplement for 4 wk.All participants provided their fecal and blood samples at baseline and at the end of intervention.Gastrointestinal symptoms and stool frequency were evaluated.The concentrations of serum endotoxemia markers and fecal SCFAs were determined.The relative abundance of SCFA-producing bacteria and the gut microbial community in the responders and non-responders in the prebiotics supplementation group were evaluated.RESULTS There were no significant differences in gastrointestinal symptoms between groups,although the prebiotic group showed greater symptom improvement.However,after prebiotic usage,serum cluster of differentiation(CD)14 and lipopolysaccharide(LPS)concentrations were significantly decreased(CD14,P=0.012;LPS,P<0.001).The change in LPS concentration was significantly larger in the prebiotic group than in the placebo group(P<0.001).Fecal SCFAs concentrations did not differ between groups,while the relative abundance of Roseburia hominis,a major butyrate producer,was significantly increased in the prebiotic group(P=0.045).The abundances of the phylum Firmicutes and the family Lachnospiraceae(phylum Firmicutes,class Clostridia)(P=0.009)were decreased in the responders within the prebiotic group.In addition,the proportions of the phylum Firmicutes,the class Clostridia,and the order Clostridiales were inversely correlated with several fecal SCFAs(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Alterations in gut microbiota composition,including a decrease in the phylum Firmicutes and an increase in butyrate-producing bacteria,following prebiotic UG1601 supplementation might help alleviate symptom scores and endotoxemia.Jae Ryang Chu Saem-Yi Kang Sung-Eun Kim Sol-Ji Lee Young-Chul Lee Mi-Kyung Sung 2019World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,40:10

7Arsenic trioxide alleviates airway hyperresponsiveness and eosinophilia in a murine model of asthma显示文摘Asthma is one of the most common chronic airway inflammatory diseases.The clinical hallmarks of asthma include elevated serum levels of immunoglobulin E(IgE),eosinophilic inflammation and airway hyper-responsiveness(AHR).Arsenic trioxide(As2O3)is considered a carcinogen;however,it has also been used to treat diseases,such as syphilis,in traditional Chinese and Western medicine.Today,As2O3 is used as one of the standard therapies for acute promyelocytic leukemia(APL).Previous studies have indicated that As2O3 can induce apoptosis in eosinophils.However,the effect of As2O3 on asthma has not been investigated.We used ovalbumin(OVA)-immunized mice as a model for asthma and treated mice with As2O3 at doses of 2.5 and 5 mg/kg.The mice were then monitored for OVA-specific IgE production,airway inflammatory cell infiltration and AHR.We found that administration of As2O3 in OVA-immunized mice abrogated airway eosinophil recruitment by downregulating eotaxin expression but did not alter serum IgE or IL-5 levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF).Furthermore,the development of AHR and cellular infiltration into the airway were reduced by treating mice with As2O3.In vitro data suggested that low concentrations of As2O3 could induce only a small degree of apoptosis in primary pulmonary cells but could significantly inhibit the secretion of eotaxin by these cells.These results indicate that the administration of As2O3 to OVA-immunized mice can suppress lung allergic inflammatory responses.As2O3 might therefore have therapeutic potential in treating allergic airway inflammatory diseases.Kuan-Hua Chu Chen-Chen Lee Shao-Chi Hsin Bao-Chang Cai Jin-Hong Wang Bor-Luen Chiang 2010Cellular & Molecular Immunology2010,7,5:7

10Simultaneous Paragonimus infection involving the breast and lung:A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Paragonimiasis is a food-borne parasitic infection caused by lung flukes of the genus Paragonimus. Although the most common site of infection is the pleuropulmonary area, the parasite can also reach other parts of the body on its journey from the intestines to the lungs, ending up in locations such as the brain,abdomen, skin, and subcutaneous tissues. Ectopic paragonimiasis is difficult to diagnose due to the rarity of this disease.CASE SUMMARY Here, we report a rare case of simultaneous breast and pulmonary paragonimiasis in a woman presenting painless breast mass and lung nodule with a history of eating raw trout. To confirm the diagnosis, serologic testing and tissue confirmation of the breast mass were performed. 15Refeeding syndrome in Southeastern Taiwan:Our experience with 11 cases显示文摘AIM:To present our experience with refeeding syndrome in southeastern Taiwan.METHODS:We conducted a retrospective study during a 2-year period at the Mackay Memorial Hospital,Taitung Branch.We enrolled patients with very little or no nutrition intake for more than 10 d,a high risk group of refeeding syndrome,including those suffering from alcohol abuse,cancerous cachexia,chronic malnutrition,and prolonged starvation.RESULTS:A total of 11 patients(7 males,4 females)with nasogastric feeding were included as having refeeding syndrome.Most of them had the symptoms of diarrhea,lethargy,and leg edema.The initial nutritional supplement was found to be relatively high in calories(1355.1±296.2 kcal/d),high in protein(47.3±10.4 gm/d),low in vitamin B1(2.0±0.5 mg/d),low in potassium(1260.4±297.7 mg/d),and low in phosphorus(660.1±151.8 mg/d).Furthermore,hypophosphatemia(2.4±0.9 mg/dL)was noted during follow-up.Based on the suggestions of a dietician and a gastroenterologist,the clinical disorders of diarrhea,malaise and leg edema were significantly improved.The level of phosphate was also increased(3.3±0.6mg/dL).CONCLUSION:Refeeding syndrome is an overlooked and risky disorder that has some potentially fatal complications.Nasogastric feeding in nursing homes is an important risk factor for patients and deserves greater attention based on the initial results of this study.Li-Ju Chen Huan-Lin Chen Ming-Jong Bair Chia-Hsien Wu I-Tsung Lin Yuan-Kai Lee Cheng-Hsin Chu 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,30:3
