| 1 | Pre-existing diabetes mellitus increases the risk of gastric cancer:A meta-analysis显示文摘AIM:To systematically assess the association between diabetes and incidence of gastric cancer.METHODS:We searched MedLine (PubMed),EMBASE,and the Cochrane Library without any limitations with respect to publication date or language,we also searched the references of qualifying articles.Casecontrol studies and cohort studies comparing the risk of gastric cancer between diabetic patients and control subjects were included.We excluded studies reporting only standardized incidence ratios without control groups and those that investigated only mortality but not incidence.Seventeen studies met our criteria,and the qualities of these studies were assessed using theNewcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale.We performed a meta-analysis of pre-existing diabetes and gastric cancer incidence using the DerSimonian-Laird method for random-effects.For subgroup analyses,we separated the studies by study type,region,sex and method to determine confounding factors and reliability.We also conducted subgroup analyses to examine the effects of smoking,Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection,and cancer site.Publication bias was evaluated using Begg's test.RESULTS:A random-effects model meta-analysis showed an increased gastric cancer risk in diabetic patients [relative risk (RR)=1.19;95%CI:1.08-1.31].Subgroup analyses indicated that this result persisted in cohort studies (RR=1.20;95%CI:1.08-1.34),in studies on populations of both Western (RR=1.18;95%CI:1.03-1.36) and Eastern countries (RR=1.19;95%CI:1.02-1.38),in a female subgroup (RR=1.24;95%CI:1.01-1.52),and in highly qualified studies (RR=1.17;95%CI:1.05-1.31).Moreover,these results persisted when the analysis was confined to studies adjusted for well-known gastric cancer risk factors such as smoking (RR=1.17;95%CI:1.01-1.34) and H.pylori infection (RR=2.35;95%CI:1.24-4.46).CONCLUSION:Pre-existing diabetes mellitus may increase the risk of gastric cancer by approximately 19%.This effect seems to be unrelated to geographical region. | Jae Moon Yoon Ki Young Son Chun Sick Eom Daniel Durrance Sang Min Park | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013，19，6： | 14 |
| 2 | Absolute monocyte and lymphocyte count prognostic score for patients with gastric cancer显示文摘AIM:To measure the prognostic significance of absolute monocyte count/absolute lymphocyte count prognostic score(AMLPS) in patients with gastric cancer.METHODS:We retrospectively examined the combination of absolute monocyte count(AMC) and absolute lymphocyte count(ALC) as prognostic variables in a cohort of 299 gastric cancer patients who underwent surgical resection between 2006 and 2013 and were followed at a single institution.Both AMC and ALC were dichotomized into two groups using cut-off points determined by receiving operator characteristic curve analysis.An AMLPS was generated,which stratified patients into three risk groups:low risk(both low AMC and high ALC),intermediate risk(either high AMC or low ALC),and high risk(both high AMC and low ALC).The primary objective of the study was to validate the impact of AMLPS on both disease-free survival(DFS) and overall survival(OS),and the second objective was to assess the AMLPS as an independent prognostic factor for survival in comparison with known prognostic factors.RESULTS:Using data from the entire cohort,the most discriminative cut-off values of AMC and ALC selected on the receiver operating characteristic curve were 672.4/μL and 1734/μL for DFS and OS.AMLPS risk groups included 158(52.8%) patients in the lowrisk,128(42.8%) in the intermediate-risk,and 13(4.3%) in the high-risk group.With a median followup of 37.2 mo(range:1.7-91.4 mo),five-year DFS rates in the low-,intermediate-,and high-risk groups were 83.4%,78.7%,and 19.8%,respectively.And fiveyear OS rates in the low-,intermediate-,and high-risk groups were 89.3%,81.1%,and 14.4%,respectively.On multivariate analysis performed with patient- and tumor-related factors,we identified AMLPS,age,and pathologic tumor-node-metastasis stage as the most valuable prognostic factors impacting DFS and OS.CONCLUSION:AMLPS identified patients with a poor DFS and OS,and it was independent of age,pathologic stage,and various inflammatory markers. | Wan Kyu Eo Da Wun Jeong Hye Jung Chang Kyu Yeoun Won Sung Il Choi Se Hyun Kim Sung Wook Chun Young Lim Oh Tae Hwa Lee Young Ok Kim Ki Hyung Kim Yong Il Ji Ari Kim Heung Yeol Kim | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015，21，9： | 6 |
| 3 | Effects of drought stress on root morphology and spatial distribution of soybean and adzuki bean显示文摘Due to global climate change,Korea is facing severe droughts that affect the planting and early vegetative periods of upland crops.Soybean and adzuki bean are important legume crops in Korea,so it is critical to understand their adaptations to water stress.This study investigated the changes in root morphological properties in soybean and adzuki bean and quantified the findings using fractal analysis.The experiment was performed at the National Institute of Crop Science in Miryang,Korea.Soybeans and adzuki beans were planted in test boxes and grown for 30 days.The boxes were filled with bed soil with various soil moisture treatments.Root images were obtained and scanned every two days,and the root properties were characterized by root length,depth and surface area,number of roots,and fractal parameters(fractal dimension and lacunarity).Root depth,length and surface area and the number of roots increased in both crops as the soil moisture content increased.The fractal dimension and lacunarity values increased as the soil moisture content increased.These results indicated that the greater the soil moisture,the more heterogeneous the root structure.Correlation analysis of the morphological properties and fractal parameters indicated that soybean and adzuki bean had different root structure developments.Both soybean and adzuki bean were sensitive to the amount of soil moisture in the early vegetative stage.Soybean required a soil moisture content greater than 70%of the field capacity to develop a full root structure,while adzuki bean required 100%of the field capacity.These results would be useful in understanding the responses of soybean and adzuki bean to water stress and managing irrigation during cultivation. | Hyen Chung CHUN Sanghun LEE Young Dae CHOI Dong Hyeok GONG Ki Youl JUNG | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2021，20，10： | 5 |

| 6 | Immune enhancement effect of an herb complex extract through the activation of natural killer cells and the regulation of cytokine levels in a cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppression rat model显示文摘Objective: To investigate the effects of a herb complex extract(HCE) prepared from Cornus officinalis Sieb. Et Zucc., Eriobotrya japonica Lindley, and olive leaves on immune response of mouse spleen NK cells in vitro and in vivo analysis. Methods: The activity of natural killer(NK) cells was measured in splenocytes and YAC-1 cells. Mice were immunosuppressed using cyclophosphamide(5 mg/kg body weight). Three different doses of HCE(200, 400, and 800 mg/kg body weight) and red ginseng extract(800 mg/kg body weight) which was used as standard immunomodulatory herb were administered orally for 4 weeks. The body weight, dietary, water intake, organs(liver, thymus, and spleen) weight, completed blood count, and cytokines(tumor necrosis factor alpha, interferon gamma, and interleukin-2) production was measured. Results: At the maximum concentration of HCE, the activity of NK cells was increased by 48.5%. HCE increased liver, spleen, and thymus weights without altering numbers of white blood cells, lymphocytes, and neutrophils in a cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppression rat model. However, HCE recovered the inhibited cytokine expression; HCE(800 mg/kg) increased cytokines levels. The results indicate the immune enhancement potential of this HCE. Conclusion: The HCE enhances immunity by increasing NK cell activity, regulating cytokine levels, and maintaining spleen weight.
